I vote aye. The last 'fight' scene did't work well for you guys. It took way too long, but autos should be used with caution and mindfulness.

Yeah, I vote yes. I commented on this before when you guys had your last fight scene.

Pach said Yeah, generally with fight scenes imo the best way of treating them is common sense. I've not dabbled in Arena, but the way I think it mostly goes is people set up posts where they have their character move to attack, and then give the other person a chance to respond by dodging/getting hit etc. Which is all fine and good except I tend to see most people just have their characters dodge it cus ohnoes booboos. But, and I've not posted in Midnight yet so idk how you guys feel about it, I treat combat scenes more dynamically and akin to a show where injuries can be traded etc and it all boils down to common sense and how much you guys trust each other not to go overboard and like... break another character's head. I don't think having your characters injured should be something to be scared of since I don't think anyone's looking to inflict lasting damage. Also, what Fox said where trading small actions back and forth would just take forever... lol.

It all boils down to common sense, really. Trading small blows should be perfectly acceptable, keeps posts moving. Larger ones, either leave it open for the other player or pm/communicate/ask in ooc first. Collabs are a possibility so long as it doesn't take participants forever to write out and they remember the 3 day rule (one reason why I dislike and stay away from collabs is because they take frigging forever, along with other things, and can be an rp death sentence D|). I also tend to think villain/bosses should be granted more leeway to auto-hits too since they should generally be more powerful and be bringing the pain, if they need to force a player character to be weakened and overwhelmed to help make that eventual victory payoff all the more sweeter then hurrah.

People shouldn't be afraid of having their characters get hurt. On the flip side, if someone does go overboard and deals more damage/injury then what should be considered possible I'm sure it could and would just be discussed on the ooc with people giving opinions and GMs making a decision on it, with the neccessary edits being made after.

Good morning everyone =3

Well, it's morning for me, at least. How are you all doing?

Lol, Haku just made the stairs, not the entire staircase XD
This topic is treading on thin ice, so to speak. (see what I did there? XD)

In my opinion, rather than having open-ended posts or concrete auto posts when it comes to the fighting scenes, we should have what I like to call "semi-collab".

As mentioned before, open-ended posts ofttimes lead to dodging abuse, whilst automatic ones - to power abuse. In both cases there is a chance of offending one or several players, be they attackers or receivers.
Collabs, on the other hand, take quite a long time to finish as I have learned after creating one with Nadi. We were lucky enough to have close time-zones, with only one hour between us. However, if one writer simply does not have the muse to create at a given moment, they would be slowing down the process and ruining the other co-creator's mood. Not to mention that different people have a different writing speed. I myself am a slow writer, whereas Pach is a fast one. When it comes to collabs, they should be done when the players know there will be enough time to write them down, without interfering with the role-play's pace.

With those two statements made, I suggest we have "semi-collabs". The way I would define this term is : discussing prior to actions of great importance.
In other words, let us plan ahead before posting.
A simple example is how I asked Pach if I could make Vincent slip on ice. If he had said something along the lines of "he can keep his footing even on ice", I would have clarified that it was slippery, but if in turn he had specified that by some miracle Vince knew how to ice-skate without skates, I would have agreed to him not falling on the ice. Or, if he had told me he had already planned something with someone else, I wouldn't have made the scene in the first place.
Concrete auto posts are good for accuracy and activity, but if you post your character attacking another and that other character's player had planned something with someone else, you would be ruining their moment. Coming clear with our intentions would be a good way to prevent displease and unhappiness ^ ^
However, this "semi-collab" discussing should only occur when our character are about to make an important move. Here are some cases where I don't suggest using this method:

1. Humans VS Creature that is obviously stronger than them

I think that creatures from Nowhere should have the upper hand and deal auto damage to humans. Whether we like it or not, our pasty-skinned lovelies are newbies. They have neither experience, nor perfect skills, thus should be in a very difficult position when up against strong Nowhereians. I quote Pach:
Pach said I also tend to think villain/bosses should be granted more leeway to auto-hits too since they should generally be more powerful and be bringing the pain, if they need to force a player character to be weakened and overwhelmed to help make that eventual victory payoff all the more sweeter then hurrah.

I agree to this ^

2. Logically impossible to dodge attacks

Namely I'm talking about multi-target attacks, ones which contain several simultaneous firings.
As an example I give Vincent once more and the way he smashed the table, creating a bombardment of sweets. Nowhere might defy all logic, but it would really be impossible for not a single person to be hit by anything. That is why Haku and Inadi got cake-slapped XD
Despite loving our characters, we have to agree that there are some attacks we simply can not dodge or run away from. That is why we should allow anyone who is making this attack to have an auto post.

3. Minor damage

Depending on your character's class, minor damage could mean many things, however, things such as punches, kicks, scratches and the like could easily be exchanged, thus auto posts should be allowed when it comes to this.

In conclusion, I would not like to have direct auto posts for every single kind of fighting scene, nor would I agree to everything being open-ended. Instead, I call for cooperation and discussion, in order to avoid any unnecessary quarrels =3 In the end, I think I said the same thing as Pach ^ ^" He beat me to it.

Peace, bro

MUG said He turned to face the doorway that he and the other new members had walked into. He turned his head towards the group and shook his hand as if to turn away some kind of advance. “I don't want you all to think I don't like the hospitality this land provides. But at the same time I have no intention of dying in some strange land that probably is just a figment of my imagination as it is.” He said as he gripped the trinket in his hand tighter still, the aura now becoming a collection of lightning in his hand. Again, he was unaware of the development. “So to be completely honest....I.....really......DON'T WANT TO GO!”

phew. Finally posted! Although I probably wrecked the writing quality. Bear with me on this one please because writing with a laptop keyboard on a wobbly train and a headache cause by the wobbling of said wobbly train....was kind of a challenge.

In clarification of the content of the post: one thing about Leila always was the ability to figure out some things and what to do in response, yet frequently failing to carry out the plan because of the restriction that is herself. She is familiar enough with trajectories and fluid dynamics, so the only thing between the usual Leila and the Archer character in the RPG chappy would be the physical strength and capability of actually posing herself - along with the bow and arrow or whatever else - with enough accuracy in the direction where she knew to aim for.

Haven't consulted the GM before this one, so it's kinda really a decision only on my side - so please, do tell me if anything doesn't go with how things are supposed to work, or if there are better ways for me to play this out. Thanks.

Meanwhile about the vote about game mechanics: I have experience dealing with open-ended posts, collabs, and both parties figuring it out together before writing up things, collabs or not. I've gotta say they all have their pros and cons and how well it works really depends on who you're working it with, under what circumstances. I suppose with a skype chat and a sufficiently rapidly updating OOC, working things out in advance might be favourable, yet timezones might prove a problem.

Laughs, I really don't know. I guess I'll just go with what the rest of you decide on...would that be alright?

Also, unrelated: upon more careful inspecting of the previous IC posts:
Headphones said The low temperature did not bother Hakuren at all.

I am so never going to unsee snow queen Hakuren. Good job, brain.

Good mornight guys! I hope you're having a grand Easter :D andddd I'm back.

Just caught up with the IC and OOC, I've missed you guys *glomps* also, I see you guys have been discussing. Thanks for opening up that discussion Kei-chan! Battle scenes can sometimes lead to arguments, but if we talk it out on the OOC beforehand everything should go smoothly so good idea! Pach and Phones explained it all pretty well and I agree with the both of them.

Planning everything out beforehand takes away a certain thrill. Uncertainty is nice since in RPing nothing is set in stone and it's exciting, seeing unexpected surprises here and there, plus, planning everything out would defo take way too long with the three day rule and different timezones. Like Pach, I don't encourage collabs since they killed one of my rps in the past and slow things down, but I do believe there are times when they are really useful. Kei-chan, Kathi-chan and I use them to move things along from time to time when we're sure we can finish them speedily, so if you guys think a collab is necessary and are sure you won't take forever to do it then go for it, I guess xD

Soooo, I think autohitting is fine as long as it isn't abused and as long as common sense is used.

I don't think we need to discuss trading of minor blows but if you're about to deal a large amount of damage on someone then you should ask them for permission first. However, with some of Nowhere's creatures, we might be injuring the lost souls for plot advancing purposes ;)

Awesome posts guys <3 I loved them all and Four...I will hear Frozen's soundtrack in my head whenever Haku gets into a fight now. This...this can't be unseen.

Darn it, Anon! xD I have a special place for GIFs in my heart now cause of you!

And I'm just going to repeat what Kei-chan said ^^ our humans will be newbies. Their powers will be pretty cool to them, but to the people of Aven and Sol who live a medieval fantasy life, the humans won't be anything special. They'll have their moments of awesome but the amulets are pretty unstable too 8D so expect spells not working, sword attacks going wrong, and stuff backfiring on the poor hummons.

Four :D welcome back from your trip and Anon have fun on yours. Urgh, I don't know how you guys managed to type on moving vehicles xD thank you for getting your posts up despite the busy schedules. Also, I see everyone is done with their gem posts anddddd Oblivion told me she's currently working on hers, so I might move everyone along depending on whether I'm awake by the time she finishes. If not, I'll post tomorrow. Anyways, I told you guys I'd be back on Monday, but we got home earlier than expected~!

Oh, and before I forget, Green sent me a PM. I don't know why, but he's decided to withdraw from the RP :C it'll be sad seeing Mado and Green go, but let's march forward. Green, thanks for the fun times ^^ and best of luck with your roleplaying endeavors. Feel free to stop by the OOC and chat anytime.

Lastly, it's just a reminder. Our posting cycles were kind of unstable due to the guild going down and the reunion I had to attend, but once again, I'll be expecting a post once every three days (^w^)/ and will be expecting warnings on the OOC if someone has to miss a cycle.

How are you all on this fine Duskdawn? :3 I've missed you guys andddd, Kimchi, Jasper will be the only healer 8D

only healer...
