Tell me your thoughts on the bill making your national anthem gender neutral?
Isn't the Canadian national anthem just "O Canada" chanted continuously?
<Snipped quote by Vilageidiotx>
Oh yes, but it's a very manly chant. They're trying to make us all sing it in a higher voice.
If I were president of the US and someone put a put a bill on my table proposing we make "Hollaback girl" the national anthem, I'd sign it just to get it out of the way so we can get back to growed up stuff.

I remember there was a petition to change the national anthem to "Party in the USA", it'd either go terrifically horrible or horribly terrific.

might as well. what we have now is a reminder of that time we got ourselves in a really poorly thought out war and had to be saved by Baltimore of all fucking places.
>Calling liberals socialist
Semi-seriously, I think,I'd be disappointed in everyone involved. Like if you are socialist you shouldn't be wasting your political capital on a song you annoy elementary school music students with, and it shows a lack of a real platform if conservatives could run on an anthem ticket.

At least it was some where relevant like Baltimore instead of Nebraska or Wyoming or something.

I gotta say, Canada's education system pays no attention to America's... War of Independence? Could someone explain this to me?
And what does your national anthem, "America, Fuck Yah", have to do with Baltimore?
perhaps trying to abolish the monarchy.

and then Francis Scott Key watches the battle, writes a poem about it, the poem gets paired up with a drinking song, and that is how the National Anthem was born.

What does the Monarchy even do for Canada, aside from creating that "Loser country that won't move out of Mom's basement" effect? I mean, surely you could be part of the Commonwealth without having to say that some British celebrity as your de jure Head of State.
As for the holiday thing, I don't know what you guys would want to change in Canada, but for the US I am totally on board with renaming Columbus Day. That guy was a fuck. My general rule with whether this works historically is "Did the people back then also think this person was a fuck", just to make sure we aren't judging historical people with modern views. Since Columbus was thrown in prison for being a cruel fuck by the 16th century Spanish of all goddamn people, I think we can safely damn him and give the holiday to somebody else.
