Balith Benker
Balith Benker • 9th of Diamonds • Ticketeers"For all heights there is a staircase"
♦ ♦ ♦
AGE (17) • Gender: Male
Appearance: The most notable thing about Balith for anyone before they even get close enough to smell the hint of his Spicy pepper cologne would be that he is short. His shaded, swamp mist eyes are faced with the constant danger of being impaled by noses when talking to the average man despite having a very still and straight posture that would put most coat hangers to shame. His shoulders, betray his discipline by occasionally curving down and letting any tension slide off with it.
His olive skin is stricken with a smooth and cold lack of shine to it. Pale from the constant shelter that he finds himself in, bereft of any light outside of candles and late night socializing. His eyes, telling the same tale with a small, graying packages housing his sockets. Despite this his irises themselves are constantly glittering with vague dancing green jewels, wet with life even outside of any light. Resembling fire flies celebrating in the forests.
Balith's hair style is typically something smooth and quick to do. Either being very messy and slightly spiked with hair products or simply curved down all over, both dressing his smaller forehead in a charcoal black crown. Physically unimpressive and average in weight. His clothes tend to change readily over the weeks, rarely appearing in the same costume over and over. Almost all of his clothes are neat and uniform, normally citizen remakes or casually repurposed sets that relate to solders, organizations or business like attire.
Personality:Balith is at ease with people, his eyes are solid marbles and roll about the room in relaxation. His breathing steady and movements minimal as if the populace were pillows even when entertaining talk of politics or emotions. Untouched by the seriousness that ether can take. He examples his class in drama, being certain in the face of despair or social anxiety of others, rarely if ever displaying violence or crass reaction to what going on around him.
Unlike many of his younger students, he is at home within the system. Appealing to his own need for organisation he rarely whispers a word against it and is just as quick to shun and try to guide those that belittle or mock it. Stubborn as he is certain in his beliefs, even in the face of evidence that he is wrong he will rarely react with acknowledgement, depriving those that best him with the satisfaction of a emotional or thoughtful reply. With a voice that sings at talking volume, a set of brows that never seem to furrow and a small shine off at the side of his eyes. He welcomes all to approach him although for what reason can be hard to ascertain. Whom he considers friends and whom he considers to be another step in his goals can be hard to tell due to his aversion of acting cold and disconnected to either.
This triangle of Certainty, stoicism and stubbornness form a structure that can coach others into feeling that the world is simple and straight forward. He displays knowledge when it is not there, courage for concepts when there is no evidence of worth, shunning in the face of victims for the sake of safety and restrictions to freedom for simple answers. Yet, he is stable when all is lost, kind when all is violent, values what others can see as worthless and shelters those who rely on him both from themselves and from others.
With a capacity to be both alarmingly helpful and hurtful he stands attention. His true morals stiff to the winds of change. Time will only tell if he never changes at all or is doomed to do so utterly from what he is.
Biography: Baltih family had a long line of ticket takers. Write inspectors, currency spotters and generally anything that needed someone to look at paper and make sure it wasn't of dubious quality. As the times changed so did the things they had to inspect. At first it was the simple act of gold coins, being one of the many small families that would spend all day printing new golden coins, making sure they were of proper accord. Normally working with other smiths rather than being taking on the art craft themselves. As prints came out, their house was one that would validate the many, many letters that would come in and out of the streets.
For diamonds, they were rather respected. Not out of some greater knowledge or even notable skills but due their long heritage of the same job. Slowly moving to more and more trusted positions. They were an after thought but for the more diplomatic spades and hearts, it was typical to say
"Take it to the Benkers" after receiving a dubious letter or an off stamp. Of course, the Benkers themselves didn't know they were more valued than some nor did many others. But for such sensitive information and governmental duties it was a must.
This secrecy while wise broken when Mister Benker, having grown frustrated to the monotony of his family line turned to selling the various seals and new prints to certain contacts that tried to entice him. Taking precious signatures of rich spades and Hearts alike in order to withdrew large amounts of gold from the treasury. These exploits and the increase in printing urged the economy into a crisis. Inflating the gold price to an extent that most lower classes could barely feed themselves at all.
Mister Benker was captured a month into his escapades when the guard found copies of the new government seal. Slapped onto fake bonds. Earning himself a 10 year sentence. His wife, on the other hand died in a fire started by out raged locals, who many had themselves deprived of medicine and food due to his actions. Balith, having return to a family home that now belonged to charcoal and soot. Left as a changed child, his rumored risk taking personality and world hungry eyes had vanished. Soon becoming a student, sure in the system. He never once used his family name again, nor ever replying to his fathers letters even when he got out a year ago.
