Player Name: RedLeather
Character Name: Erik Karlson
Character Age: 54
Character Gender: Male
Appearance: imgur.com/gallery/qZWwm (yes, i'm aware its the Danish Prime Minister, and sorry, Imgur changed their link setup)
Profession: Linguist (Slavic, Germanic, and Xenobiotic languages)
Nationality: European Confederacy
Strengths: Language Fluency: Speaks 6 languages fluently, and 3 more with some errors (Scandinavian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, German, English, Polish. 3 iffy ones: Bulgarian, Greek, Finnish)
Hardened: His presence on Earth as an international translator during localized wars and the Three Day war has worn him down hard. He rarely spooks, is difficult to intimidate, and little phases or frustrates him.
People-Friendly: Good with communicating to other people, especially at public speaking and getting his own point across.
Weaknesses:Defensive: Erik is not comfortable sharing much about himself with others, and will often simply abandon a conversation he doesn't like.
Aging:Despite the progress of society and anti-aging technology, Erik is still nearing his time as an older man. He isn't as nimble or as strong as he used to be, though he still capable of many generally average feats of strength.
Arrogant: Contrary to his outward facade, Erik feels himself smarter than most people on Earth and in the system. Of course, being on the
Vitae means that everyone else is just as smart as he is now.
Language Shifting: Erik often forgets what language he is using, and will speak in one that the person he is speaking to does not understand.
Personal Effects: Several sets of clothes, several dictionaries in foreign languages, and a dirty piece of cloth that he holds onto constantly. He felt bringing more than was necessary would simply be a waste of space.
Bio: Growing up in one of the happiest and wealthiest reaming parts of the European Confederacy, Erik led a charmed childhood, living in a nuclear-survival city buried underneath central Denmark, Erik led what was essentially a pre-war normal life, hidden from the scourges of the nuclear pavement above. The lack of sunlight was occasionally depressing, but he got by alright.
Erik went for higher education at the University of St. Johns in old Canada, one of the most renowned schools in the region. His parents gave him funds to reach the surface and the coast, where he then volunteered on a shoddy fishing boat that was heading for cleaner waters. The University accepted him on the cheap due to both his startling intelligence, and the fact that he was European. He originally studied Slavic languages, but upon realizing that he had a certain knack for learning them, took up a double major in Germanic languages as well. He studied for seven years before graduating with a PHD in both fields. He performed some freelance translator and interpreter work across central and eastern Europe, until the government suddenly called him up.
Brought in just prior to the attacks on Citadel, he was tasked with trying to decipher the unintelligible communications from the approaching fleet. Though Erik achieved no actual breakthroughs, he felt he was incredibly close to understanding some part of the language, but the attacks forced him to stop. Erik attempted to continue his work from the safety of Earth, but the war was over before it had begun.
Frustrated, he left and tried to decipher what leftover recordings of the communications were had, but made little headway. Eventually, the UEC recruited him to help them transmit their recruitment messages to citizens they needed onboard one of the Arks in Eastern and Central Europe. He worked with them until now, at which point he himself is being taken aboard the
Vitae in hopes that he will be able to help them understand any foreign aliens they might come across.
