Water
(Though currently she can only use her element through the contraptions she builds)Thora Stands at a measly 4'9", though her height does not bother her at all, she likes being small as it allows her more flexibility in her repairs.
One thing that is immediately noticeable when encountering Thora is, that she is silent. According to her life's motto, every word you speak, is a breath you could have saved for actually doing something productive. Now that she has lived so long under that motto already, it is hard for her to talk at all. Instead, she will use gestures to communicate or, in the extremest circumstances, she might use a single word or two.
This, of course, makes her seem cold, distant and aloof, which is only partly true.
It might be right, that she is usually quite distant, but she is, to the extend that is possible for somebody who doesn't speak, fairly caring towards people that managed to creep into her heart.
Those people will, then, also get physical attention from her, aka pats on the back or even a hug or two.
Another reason why she can seem distant, is her desire to constantly tinker with something. From fixing tech-stuff to building her own contraptions, which can seem very steampunk-y. In these, she uses her water abilities to pump the water through pipes and valves to generate force or power for whatever the purpose of her machines.
Outside of these contraptions, her elemental abilities are very limited, which, despite her seemingly being content with just her contraptions, annoys her a lot.
Even though she doesn't talk, she can be very vocal about her annoyances, letting out disgruntled noises and having a quite expressive face, though, she more often than not looks miffed, even if she isn't really.
Born in northern Germany to a family of engineers, Thora grew up travelling around the world with her parents and being along a lot of the times. As such, she, from a young age on, had to learn to be self-sufficient. At some point, when she was around eight, she started to tinker on old electronic devices her parents did not need anymore as a distraction and to waste some time. Never did she know before, that it would be so much fun for her and became almost her entire day from that point on.
Although both her parents were rarely around, her father and mother were both proud of her and, in their spare time, taught her a lot of the things she might need to know.
It was during that time, that she started to construct things on her own. At some point, she realized, she could manipulate water to some degree, but a lot more when she used it in the things she built.
Of course, she was rather unaware of the consequences her abilities could bring her, but nobody, not even her parents noticed for a while, as her powers were too weak to notice outside her contraptions.
One day, though, not long after she turned fourteen, her mother, understandably quite shocked, found her fiddling with a metal press she built herself which was physically being powered by her water ability.
Scared of anybody else finding out her powers, they decided, with a heavy heart, to send her to the Academy for training and, especially, safekeeping.
