FFXIII is kind of a bad game tho. Not the worst FF, that honor belongs to Tactics A2, for shame.

I was mentioning a series, if we are talking about games with black protagonists and I say I'd rather play GTA you'd be a special kind of moron to think I'm talking about GTA 1. So on the subject of tactical RPGs if I mention Valkirie Profile then I'm probably taking about the game in the series that's a tactical RPG. High level detective work I know, but you'll get your head around it.

In the hypothetical scenario you concocted I wouldn't think you were talking about GTA 1 but I would ask if you meant San Andreas or 5. And you would absolutely clarify in that instance. Considering how like ten people have played, much less heard of, Covenant of the Plume compared to its relatively more well known predecessor titled 'Valkyrie Profile' it's not exactly a stretch to think you'd be talking about that one.

Famitsu also gave Nintendogs a 40/40. Clearly other games have a lot to learn from this masterpiece.

I didn't say highest bidder, I said they put too much stock in presentation and legacy. You make the exact same argument when a Rockstar Game gets a 10/10 on the same big websites you are citing.

If a Rockstar game gets a 10/10 on the big websites my first thought isn't "BULLSHIT, ROCKSTAR BIAS" or some shit about legacy. I'd assume, and probably correctly, that the game is well made, crafted, and deserving of the score in the reviewer's eyes. Hey, fancy that, Famitsu gave GTA 5 a 40/40. Weird. Must be that Japanese legacy with regards to Rockstar games.

I feel like 13 suffered from the linear story and gaming mechanics. It had a lot of good things that sounded great in theory, but it definitely suffered from a very poor execution. The lack of open-worldness, classic FF gaming mechanics that drew in people originally, and, of course, enjoyable, iconic characters. If it had just done away with a few things that people cite for it being its downfall (such as characters and linear plot), it would've been a decent game - not the best, of course - but a decent one that would definitely put it over some of the other lower-tier Final Fantasy games.

But yeah, like @Hero said Tactics A2 was by far the worst FF game to ever be made. And that's including those pointless crystal chronicles games. Like why, SE? Why!?

I mean, depending on who you ask (Motomu Toriyama) then Lighting is an iconic character. At least in Square Enix's eyes. But then this is the same company that thinks people think Terra is the good character from FF6 so hah.

Well, to be fair, I don't particularly like FF6 nor any of the characters in it. The exception, of course, being Kefka. I do love myself some Kefka.

Whether 10 people have played it or not is irrelevant. Its a tactical RPG with the prefix Valkyrie Profile, a very quick google search in good faith would confirm that, but I can see how trying to imply I think the first game is the wrong genre on a title specification is just that bit more juicy.

Yeah, because the game was reviewed after it sold so well and not at all the more sensible point that Famitsu has only given two non-Japanese games 40/40 before so obviously the legacy matters super well. Red Dead Redemption, your favorite game, got 39 so maybe it just really is that good.

If you mean subjectively then yes, that is correct. People are allowed to dislike things. If you mean objectively, I'm kind of curious on what factual, critical, and non-subjective criteria are you using to make that suggestion? Because I don't think it exists.

Also, I admit I might've jumped the gun on saying you were using objectively wrong but the implication is there when you are stating that someone just can't accept a game they like is objectively bad. Reading back you should be able to see that. Also, I am not "white knighting", I am making a point. And I will continue to criticise games I dont like and defend games I do like in this thread that I created for that very reason, if you cant handle that without complaining about things being 'blown out of proportion' then you are the one who has to deal with it.

Especially when its something everyone in the thread (including you) is partaking in. If you really want to be a mod one day then you are going to have to learn to be more objective when deciding who to lecture. That advice nugget is free.
