I'd rather see a bad movie in the cinema than miss a good movie in the cinema.

What I think really kills me is how blatantly the DCEU has shifted gears in order to appease people who are never going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, I know, I'm in the minority in actually liking MoS and BvS, and they're never going to make Marvel money by making movies that only appeal to a small handful, but at least that small handful was genuinely appreciative. With the hatchet-job they did with Justice League and these new "hey, let's be the other Marvel" styled movies, they've thrown what support they had under the bus to court a fanbase who has already decided that whatever efforts they make will never be good enough.

As soon as they tried to rush an interconnected movie-verse without laying the groundwork just to compete with Marvel, they failed. I was fine with MoS. Was it a great movie? No. Was it a perfect Superman film? Not at all. But I enjoyed it enough to watch it a second time. And then, after one movie, what do they do? Immediately throw everything together without any apparent real plan. In my opinion, that was foolish and a fatal flaw. And ever since then, they've been pulling an NR and trying far too hard. If they just relaxed and focused they could get their shit together. But I don't see that happening anytime soon, if ever. Not until they pull a Crisis out of their ass and reboot the whole damn thing.

I don't really have any continuing interest in or loyalty to the DCEU, especially after WB basically told me that my appreciation for their first couple of efforts didn't matter. So I'm not going to pretend that I'm particularly stoked for Shazam or Aquaman, and I'm not gonna spend a whole bunch of time or energy sticking up for a franchise that's begun to get on my nerves with its lack of direction. But this whole mentality of "yeah, that looks good, but fuck them anyways" drives me up the wall.

Aside from comedy, my whole point of "that looks good, but fuck them" comment, as you put it, was because they have a history of putting out decent to great looking trailers (i.e., Suicide Squad), only for the film itself to be awful. It has nothing to do with a mindless rage simply because it's the DCEU. It has everything to do with expectations and reality. The reality is, the look of their trailers never translate to how good the movie actually is. In fact, it's usually an inverse; the better the trailer, the worse the film. And thus, my expectation is that they're putting out another shitty DCEU film. Which results in me not having any interest nor excitement for what they reveal.

I loved Wonder Woman and am genuinely excited for the sequel, Shazam, and Aquaman, with the latter two looking to be genuinely good adaptations of those characters. I also really hope everything goes well with Matt Reeves' Batman movie and the planned Nightwing film.

That is all I have to say, really. Not gonna make a thing about it.

There's a film you need to see, or probably see again, that might help reignite your heart. It recently celebrated its ten year anniversary and I remember seeing it back in 2008 and being blown away by how masterfully it had been made. It was snubbed when it wasn't nominated for Best Picture that year, but it deserved it every single way. A testament to the craft of film making. I, of course, am talking about Mamma Mia!

To be fair, we already knew Suicide Squad was dealing with a load of production issues. The trailer that was good came off the back of a revolving door of creators while the film was already part way finished. I don't think Shazam or Aquaman are dealing with anything like that, as far as I'm aware.

Still- I understand. I'm cautiously optimistic. I realllyy want these movies to be great.

I genuinely didn't realize we were having an argument. I thought this was a civil discussion, and I never dismissed your viewpoints.
I'm sorry it put you in a poor mood, though.

What am I trying too hard at? I feel like I kinda missed the foundational bits of becoming a cornerstone.
