Since some players have gone either missing or left the RP outright, we find ourselves able to accept two new players instead of just one, as the final members (for now) or this RP.
That being said:
@Krytavius Same as my two Co-GMs said ! I personally like the idea of the Quirk, but in a MHA setting I didn't see quite a lot of Mental Quirks. And as Windel said, this particular one would require almost constant OOC discussion to use against others. If you want to rely on Hand to Hand mostly, as you said, wouldn't it make more sense to pick a Quirk that goes towards that? otherwise you'll be left at a disadvantage.
@Heartfillia Love it. We already discussed it on Discord, and it seems to fall within that so I see no problem with it.
@floodtalonAnother High temperature Quirk. I personally don't see anything wrong in it myself... Since she uses pieces of her bodies, like dead skin as you mentioned, it's safe to assume she doesn't have to wait to accumulate it, but can instead voluntarily 'create' it? As in, forces it off of herself, and regenerate it a bit faster, perhaps? This might be me just going wayyy too deep into this.
Hey ! I am glad you are interested ! About your Quirk idea, well...minds related quirks are possible because we've seen some in the show, but I see 2 immediate problems with a mind read type of quirk.
1. You'd need something to enable it. Straight out having psychic powers is not a quirk. Even in the show, that one guy who can controls people actions? (i forgot the name) can activate his quirk only if people answer to him. As far as I can tell, Quirks need to have an enabler that is directly related to your character's person. So for a mind read it could be touching the person, saying the person's name or something like that?
2. But even then, a mind reading power is very problematic because it would require constant communication with your fellow RPers partners. A very decent writer that was extremely good at communicating on Discord with others might achieve it, but then you'd be robbed of the experience of actual characters interactions because all of this would need to be discussed in advance.
To me, a Mind Reading power might be more of a problem / burden than it might be fun? Unless you can prove me otherwise, or some up with something original that I didn't think of !
Yeah, Mind Reading has always been troublesome for a lot of GM’s, so I’m willing to work stuff out. For starters my character has to see the person’s eyes in order to establish a link, so anyone wearing sunglasses or masks can safely avoid his powers. But there is more to his powers than that I wanted to try.
His quirk is called “Network”, which allows him to establish a sort of telepathic communication network with anyone who is willing to establish a connection with him. This requires him to stare into someone’s eyes for at least ten minutes, and he can only communicate with them if they want to and if they’re awake. But aside from that he can communicate with them via mind reading anywhere at any time. Others within the Network can also communicate with each other.
His powers don’t really have any obvious combat application, but they can provide a very crucial support function by allowing the heroes to always be able to communicate with each other as long as they’re conscious. However my character needs to reestablish the network every few days. If he doesn’t people will start having difficulty communicating with each other over the network and eventually simply lose connection.
Hey, is this still open? It still says Apply up-top, and Ryonara is thinking of applying on this very page, but as of 30 days ago the roster was closed, so I'm unsure if I should apply.
EDIT: On second thought, I failed to read. I'm interested in applying.
@Ryonara Hey - I am not saying Yes but I am not saying No to this idea of yours. I feel like it can be adapted, but it's not quite MHA-approvable yet. I'd like to see it integrated in a character to really see what it could look like. I have only a few points that come to mind :
1. The eye contact thing, you might want to change it to either touching or something more unique but ultimately it's your choice and eye contact would be fine.
2. I don't like the 10 minutes thing, because you'll probably never do it in combat, and it's too...simple. Too video game - gimmeckey, like a cooldown.
3. I do not like that this telepathic network is apparently created and remains forever. I'd prefer if you actively had to create it each time and if there was some thing you had to do to help maintain it. If only because combats are going to be boring if there's nothing for you to do but remain motionless and be an antenna. Also, you need to come up with a way others can counter it. Say, knock you down. Though I guess this is a given.
4. I do not like that others can communicate with one another without going through him.
All in all, it's too perfect for what it does. It suffers from the same problems others did. When you think of a Quirk in MHA, do not imagine what powers you want to play with or what would be cool. Quirks are, in the end, very simple modifications that can be good depending on how people uses them. So think up something simple, and creates amazing ways to use them.
@Genon Great ! You just have to work on a character and show it to me here and for it to be approved to join. :)

Alright. Like Ryonara, I wanted to run my Quirk by you.
The Quirk is called Sound of Silence. Basically, the user's ears can absorb sound in the environment within a "bubble" of silence around them. Any sound that enters is absorbed and stored in the user's body for later use, and the bubble is obviously useful for stealth purposes, as well as shutting down opposing sound-based Quirks.
The original variant of the Quirk (from the character I'm thinking of recycling) had them able to release the stored-up sound in a cacophonous, incredibly-loud scream, but for a hero that sounds rather indiscriminate and destructive so I'm thinking of changing that to something else, like using the sound as fuel for a physical enhancement of some type. I still have to work out exactly what else the quirk could be used for and what variant I'll be going with. I'm open for ideas, since I don't want to make it broken or anything.

Yi is fairly short, only standing at 5’4”. But this is to his advantage, as it makes him seem unimposing at first to most people. His small frame also allows him him more agile and quick in his gymnastic abilities. Yi’s body is highly tone and flexible with his last 9 years focusing in training with a mixture of Tai Chi and Dim Mak(which focuses on pressure points). Both working well with his small frame.

Yi can temporarily cancel out quirks of anyone he touches, except for those with a physical mutation type quirk. He must touch the person first and activate it within a minute of touching for it to ‘seal’. He then must concentrate on keeping it sealed, doing so is hard on his mind, leading to him having small headaches for short activation periods, to throbbing migraines for The longer periods. For now he only uses his quirk as a last resort, and limits himself to one person. For each additional personal exponentially shortens the window he has to keep his focus. If he's not careful, these migraines do become debilitating for him.
Despite growing up in an america since he was five, he tends to gravitate to wearing Asian 'kungfu' fashion all the time. Trying to honor his heritage, while finding it more comfortable. He's always aware of keeping himself neat and tidy.
Collapsible metal Bo-staff- While he confident on taking opponents on with out a weapon. There are times where a staff is preferred.
Collection of kung fu movies/weapons- Yi has an insane collection of kung fu movies. Name a movie, he probably has it or seen it, as well as hundreds of others never heard of. He also loves to train with any weapon he can get his hand on in his spare time.
The sound of wood being hit and rattled rapidly and unevenly could be heard coming from the basement, accompanied by the short yell of Ei! with most of the strikes. As it normally would have, but this time it more intense as usual.
Yi was soley focused on his wooden spinningMu ren zhuang dummy. Each strike was much more stronger than needed, as if he was trying to break the training tool with each strike.
You worthless little shit! I bring you into my home and spend my money on giving you a good life and this is all you can do? sticking your nose into other peoples business?!
Yi growled and stopped a peg from hitting him in his face, which was covered in 1st degree burn marks and nasty bruises. He followed up with hardening his fore and middle fingers, having them stick out a little farther than his fist and proceeding to hammer the main body of the Mu ren zhuang, aiming for the pin point targets he had placed randomly around the training tool. His last few strikes focused on the 'head' area. with enough force to almost send the heavy wooden dummy teetering backwards, before it crashed back into place.
Yi stood there, breathing heavily and shuddering. His right eye swollen shut now from the bruising, he looked down at his hands which were shaking involuntarily. Fresh blood dripped from his knuckles from the brutal beating of the wooden training tool.
He had to get stronger. He couldn't sit back and watch as his sister and mother protect him from that bastard any more. His sister was his hero, she always looked out for him as she protected him and taking the brunt of the wrath from their father.
Yet she always seemed to have a smile on for Yi. She had more strength and courage than he could even imagine. She was the reason... he wanted to become a hero. To protect those who were too weak to protect themselves.
He looked at the training dummy once more, and Despite his body screaming in pain from the wounds he received and gave him himself. He took a deep calming breath and restarted his forms. Controlling his anger better this time.
Understandable, I just felt plain mind reading is kinda of bland, but I can't really improve it without making it much more powerful. I'm still debating if I even want it so I'll keep thinking of another quirk.
I actually thought of another quirk. I call it Reinforcement, and it hardens objects he touches. Thus he can do things like make his clothes harder and turn them into a sort of quasi armor, or reinforce wooden sticks so they're as hard as steel. He can only use it on objects though not people, and reinforcing objects also makes them stiff. It's a double-edge sword since if he uses this on his own clothing it can get uncomfortable quickly since his shirt becomes ridged and inflexible, but at the same time if he hardens his enemy's clothing he can make it harder for them to move too, since their clothes will become stiff and restrict movement.
As long as he's touching an object he can keep it reinforced, but anything that leaves his touch will lose it's reinforcement after a minute. Additionally after the reinforcement wears off all of the damage the object accumulated will come back and damage it again, possibly causing serious damage. There's also an upper limit to how much damage the reinforced objects can take, and if too much damage is done the reinforcement breaks.
Standing at 6'5" and weighing in at 177 pounds, with short shaved hair and a notable scar on the left side of his head. He always wears glasses though he has contacts too. Likes wearing collared shirts, slacks, and generally looking sharp.
Damian's Hero Outfit was made more for looks over function, however he can make good use of what he does have. His red hood and cloak are his go-to items to reinforce, making them hard and stiff so they can function as armor in emergency or even as a weapon if he has them wrapped around his arm. He wears a pauldron on his left shoulder specifically so he can tackle with it without hurting himself too much. It's tough even without reinforcement.
Name: Damian Lavernius Age: 18 Gender: Male
Hero Name: Upgrade Quirk Name: Reinforcement Quirk Type: Emitter Quirk Description: Reinforcement improves the quality of an object Damian is touching for a short time. What he improves depends on the object he's touching; he can touch clothing to make them tougher or he can touch a blade to make it sharper. He can even touch food to make them taste better. He can only do this to objects and not living creatures though he can use his quirk on plants. Damian needs to touch the objects first before he can Reinforce them and they'll remain reinforced for one minute, though the reinforcement can remain indefinitely as long as he's holding it.
With a greater amount of focus Damian can give traits to an object he touches but these traits always only last one minute regardless if he's holding it or not. He can give the following special traits to objects: He can make them heavier, lighter, glowing, stiff, flexible, cleaned, or dirty. Damian can only give one object one trait at a time and if he tries to give another object a trait the previous one goes away.
Reinforcement comes from Damian's own muscles and over use can damage and strain his muscles. That's why large objects and/or objects made of multiple parts are much harder to reinforce, as more of his muscle mass becomes damaged just trying to sustain them all. Damian can easily reinforce small complex objects like a cellphone or a hamburger no problem, but trying to reinforce something bigger than a door or as a complex as a car is difficult. Only parts of said objects will have any reinforced quality and only the parts he's touching.
Inventory & Possessions: In his regular outfit Damian carries normal things like his school supplies and cellphone. He has a wallet with his driver's license and such, but he never carries cash unless he needs to. He drives an Audi that belongs to his dad and he takes a lot of care to make sure it's never dirty or damaged. His dad says he'll give it to Damian once he either gets into college or joins a hero agency.
In his hero outfit Damian carries a few notable pieces of gear. First is a combat knife with a taser on the reverse edge given to him by his father. Damian knows how to fight with it but also knows only to use it sparingly, and if possible only use the taser side. It also has a glass breaker on the pommel. Damian also carries some first aid kits on his belts and at least three pepper spray bottles. He also carries two pairs metal police issued handcuffs for securing criminals. They have very short chains that make it impossibly for criminals to use as garrotes, and they tighten if those captured twists their hands in them.
Sample Post:
"Is it over dad? Are-are we safe now?"
A tall, tired looking man and a smaller, portly woman were smiling and shedding tears as they embraced Damian. For once in a long while, good news had arrived and the family could stop running. A police officer smiled and handed Damian a newspaper with the headline mentioning how a powerful crime family had finally been caught, with many of it's top leaders guilty of terrible crimes they've been getting away with for too long.
"That's right sir, you and your family can come out from hiding now. Someone finally managed to pin those goons with all of the crimes that your father helped us with. I'm sorry that they've been such a problem for so long, but now that they've been arrested your family is safe again."
Damian stepped away from his parents so he could read it. A coordinated attack by a local hero agency, one that his father had worked for, managed to not only find enough evidence to catch those criminals but even caught them in the act of trading government secrets to a terror organization. These guys weren't just going to be sitting behind bars; they were going to get the full book thrown at them. It made Damian smile to see some justice finally done. But at the same time, it made him sad. He looked over to his parents who were crying tears of joy, but then he looked over at the family portrait. Four people on there: Damian, his parents, and his sister. A brave woman and a hero. Despite being a sidekick it was thanks to her that Damian's father and so many others are alive. But it costed her life, and it ended up haunting Damian and his family in more ways than one.
After the police officer left, Damian and his family sat around the dinner table to talk. They could finally use their real names again, go back to their home and go see their old friends. Damian however had a different idea. As much as he wanted to move back to Manhattan, he had a life here in San Francisco too. He was tired of always running and hiding, and his father didn't train him to just take an office job and do nothing with his powers. His sister didn't die just so Damian could live a boring life away from the injustices in the world. He wanted to pick up where she left off. Damian was going to be a hero. He handed his parents some documents, an application form to the Academy of U.J.
"Damian you... You can't be serious? After everything that's happened you still-"
"Of course. Because of everything that's happened, how can I not be? I can't just... I can't just ignore it. I can't just pretend that bad stuff isn't going to happen anymore."
"Son, I understand what you mean but you know it's not that simple. Being a good guy and having good intentions, it's still dangerous work. Your sister she... Bless her heart, she is a hero. But you don't have to be her."
"I'm not trying to be her dad. This is what I want to be. This is a part of my life now. And I'm not going to give it up."
"Damian, please, don't throw your life away like this! We can finally move on with our lives, we don't have to life in fear anymore! You can still do great things but you don't need to risk your life to do that. Run a charity, start a support business, but please son don't do this!"
"Mom, calm down. I'm not trying to hurt myself. I know the dangers. I'm... I'm not saying I'm not afraid of getting hurt or dying either. But I can't just live like that! You know what I'm capable of, what sis was capable of, hell dad you know what I can do! This is what you trained me for! Of course it's going to be dangerous. But that's why it has to be me. I can't... I can't just wait for someone to save me anymore. I know, that's just what happened, but I hated it. Four years guys, four years I've had to be afraid. But that ends now!"
It wasn't an easy decision. They were still very hurt about what happened to Damian's sister and they didn't want the same thing to happen to him. But Damian was firm in his decision. He wasn't going to let it scare him off. She never once wanted Damian to ever be afraid of villains, of people who abuse their powers, or anyone who would hurt others. Damian's father might've taught him how to fight but she was the one who taught Damian how to fight back. His mother still insisted that Damian choose a safer life, but his father understood all too well what Damian wanted to do. Naturally he was worried for his son but Damian was a man now. He had to make his own choices and this was the choice he made.
Sheesh. That post really got away from me. I know, excuses, excuses.
Cutting to the chase, I think it's about time I take my leave. But of course I wanted to make an plot-friendly explanation for it. Sorry for the inconvenience guys. I just don't see myself keeping up as I'd like to, I have other RPs that need my attention and my spot ought to go for someone more capable.
I don't at all expect responses to my post, so it's fine if everyone wants to devote their attentions elsewhere. I just thought it'd be a nice way to sign off.
I'm happy I kept up for as long as I have. But the sooner I get a move on, the sooner the enduring players can work together for the long haul.
Thank you very much @SimpleWriter for accepting me, and congrats to @LuckyBlackCat on making Co-GM. Good luck. XP
I kid. If I come across players half as devoted as you guys are, that's when I know I've done something right. I'll be seeing myself out over the next day or so. Thanks for having me guys. See you around. :)
@Indra I think SimpleWriter wants to keep this as separate from canon as possible, so maybe not someone from the Todoroki family, but there can definitely be elite families out there. It's up to him though, and I like the sound of a fire based hero, as we have a villain with a fire Quirk.
@Ryonara I like it for the most part, simple yet versatile ability as is the nature of Quirks. The only issue I can see is there should be some kind of drawback for overuse, especially if he does this indefinitely to something he's holding. Maybe fatigue or something?
@Mangrale Aw, I say you're definitely capable, but if you'd rather focus on just a few RPs that's completely understandable. That was a good way to explain Sofia's departure plot-wise, and done in this really effective, bittersweet way too. Best of luck with other RPs!
