Alright, here's my first sheet draft. Obviously all-around pointers would be appreciated, but the one thing I kind of want some tips on is assets. I kept my assets list very, very small because I'm not sure what is
too much. I want the faction to be small and contained, relaying more on very skilled operatives and fast-hitting attacks than numbers and lots of tanks. But at the same time, I don't want it to be super tiny.
Oh, and suggest a name :P
Organisation Name:
Organisation Leader: Padok Meks
Important Figures:
Padok Meks, Leader, Salarian
Vyrntallius, Second-in-Command/Commander, Turian
Padok Padlas, Top covert-operative, Salarian
- Might introduce others as I go -
Organisation Specialisation: Intelligence gathering, whether it is covert espionage and infiltration, or force reconnaissance in conflict zones (or simply exploiting weaknesses in communications and computer protection). The manipulation of information is also a specialty of theirs. From fabricating propaganda to change public opinion on a matter or group, to constructing elaborate cover-ups, to simply spreading false information en masse. This tactic is especially useful against small-time mercenary bands and pirates. Through the manipulation and spread of false information, the ____ has been able to direct pirate bands and other unsophisticated groups to unknowingly do their dirty work, using false, fabricated "facts" to incite violence against their rivals by way of petty criminal groups.
Organisation Type: Intelligence/Counterintelligence/Espionage
Organisation Income Source: Employment by larger factions (sometimes through contracts, sometimes for single jobs), acquisition and subsequent selling of information to interested parties and information brokers. Small training branch offers special-operations-leveled training to other, smaller organizations for a relatively low price.
Legality: Many of _____'s activities are no-doubt illegal. However, certain precautions are taken to ensure ____ remains low-key and nearly undetectable in the sea of blatant criminals they operate in. While some groups proudly and vociferously boast about their activities and accomplishments, the ____ remains silent and professional, operating in the same 'classified' manner expected from government-owned intelligence and special operations groups. Information on their activities and sometimes even general whereabouts is kept secret, and the ____ goes to great lengths to disguise their trail and distort (and sometimes wipe) incriminating information.
On the outside, the ____ operate as a group that offers little more than armed protection (something they actually do on the side), as well as expertise against cyber intrusions, to important, wealthy individuals and facilities.
Padok Meks is not without moral and logical restraints either - a trait that has helped the group maintain a relatively clean reputation. Jobs deemed too risky or morally reprehensible are promptly disregarded and avoided. Though ____ is an illegal organization, and Padok Meks a criminal by Council standards, the organization isn't one without self-restraint -- a code, if you will.
To top it all off, ____ is a very small fish in a sea full of much larger, potential catches. Padok Meks has ensured the ____'s numbers remain low, and in doing so has made the organization a small target.
Organisation Base: The ____ base of operations is located on Illium. Its more administrative functions are handled from a skyscraper nestled in the heart of Nos Astra, where its public front offers its services to the public. The building is divided into sections with increasing degrees of required clearance.
Organisation Assets:
2 Frigates, 2 Corvettes, 4 Small Freighters, 4 gunships, 4 Infantry-fighting vehicles, several shuttles (some used for non-combat purposes, some lightly armored used for fireteam deployments)
- Rented port/dock on Illium (main), and another on Omega (much smaller, but includes a safehouse)
- Numerous contacts in the criminal world, including Information Brokers to which information is often sold to (and sometimes bought from)
- Former special operations members within the ranks (who are monitored and investigated before recruitment)
Organisation Relations: TBD
Organisation History:
The organization was founded by Padok Meks, a former STG operative, almost ten years ago. Padok Meks served admirably with the STG but his career wasn't without hard bumps. Several counts of insubordination were leveled his way, and the Salarian saw his fair share of trouble dealing with superiors. A fist-fight with a superior officer resulted in his expulsion from STG and subsequent demotion (only narrowly escaping imprisonment on account of insufficient evidence to completely clear the officer of charges of his own). It wasn't long after that that Padok Meks realized his career in the military was unlikely to yield any real reward. He retired early following the end of his contract and looked to a more profitable trade.
Padok Meks experienced first-hand how profitable a business intelligence gathering could be if offered to the right parties. The Terminus System were ripe with criminals who would give their fourth testicle - in the case of Krogan - to have access to the kind of services someone familiar with the STG and how they operated, could offer. Digging through contacts he had amassed during his time with the STG, Padok Meks was able to set a foundation to what would become ____.
It began slowly and rather disorganized. With few assets to start, Padok Meks struggled to make himself known to criminal circles. He started by himself, volunteering to gather information from rival gangs, infiltrating groups, sabotaging operations. Soon, the 'Salarian who could tell you what your enemies are planning' earned a bit of a reputation in the underworld, and his operation grew, creating small cells of spies who were often times little more than teenagers who knew the right people.
His small-time information gathering eventually grew to become an organization of skilled infiltrators, hackers, and soldiers. Using contacts from his old life, he supplemented his ranks with former Blackwatch and STG operatives that brought an air of professionalism and precision to his operation. As time passed, his organization grew, his list of contacts fattened, and so did his pockets. Criminals and warlords from all across the Terminus Systems were asking to see Padok Meks personally, all looking to see if the Salarian could provide an insight into what their competitors were planning - and Padok Meks obliged.
A few jobs for the right Big Fish netted the Salarian a small fortune, which he used to establish a more official company. He cleared his ranks of anyone who wasn't exceptionally skilled and set out to Illium, where he bought a property from which to run his new organization. It started small, with nothing but a small office, a handful of operatives and a promise to provide information on almost anything. It took a while to catch the eye of the more powerful citizens of Illium, but before long, Padok Meks was doing business with the competing mega-corporatist caste of Illium. They all wanted to know what their competitors were up to, and Padok delivered. It was then that the real money started to flood in.
His organization grew to include hundreds of employees and several large properties. It was at around this time that Padok Meks met Vyrntallius, a former Turian soldier. He advised Padok Meks and, with his advice, the Salarian expanded his business while ensuring it never grew to become a major target. More covert operatives were hired, as well as guards and soldiers to serve in the more combat-involved operations. His public front grew and soon the organization was offering private security and training on the side. Before Padok Meks knew it, he was swimming in credits and, for a time retreated to a more administrative role.
The organization is now bigger than ever, and extremely successful by Padok Meks' rather conservative standards. His reluctance to expand the business any further has put a bit of a nozzle of the group's true potential, but Padok Meks believes the profit being made currently is more than enough for everyone involved, and that further expansion only risks painting a target on the organization. As such, while the organization has a reputation among the higher caste members of society (particularly large corporations), it remains relatively small in size.
Name: Padok Meks
Race: Salarian
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Position: Leader
Appearance: Unimposing in stature, Padok Meks doesn't appear threatening at first glance. The truth, of course, is that the slim Salarian is a trained and efficient killer. His skin is an almost white shade of gray, with darker gray spots dotting his forehead. He bears no scars or tattoos. His eyes are black and wide like those of all Salarians.
Background: [The organization's background is pretty much his' too, so I'll summarize.]
Padok Meks was born on Rannadril, where he lived a rather uneventful early life prior to joining the Salarian military. Before the military, he was an underachiever, lagging behind while his brothers and friends made careers out of their ambitions. Though he studied medicine for a brief period before his enlistment, he had never been interested in anything other than the military and soon abandoned the prospect of becoming a medical professional. He joined the military later than most and largely out of need (to do something with his life) but also out of admiration and genuine respect for the military life.
He served well with the regular troops and soon with his own publicly-voiced desire (and a little help from a certain someone in his clan), Padok Meks was assigned to STG, where he served admirably and distinguished himself as a capable and resourceful operative in the force. Though he began to accumulate a history of insubordination towards the end of his career (stemming from distrust of officers and the belief that his way of doing things was the right way), he was a valuable soldier and strings were pulled to keep him in his position. It was when when he became involved in an inexcusable fist-fight with a superior officer that he was finally expulsed from STG (though he narrowly avoided prison time). He served in the regular troops until the end of his contract.
His time in the Salarian military had earned him plenty of useful skillsets that any criminal warlord would pay a fortune to have access to. Padok Meks realized this and took to the Terminus in search of clients, of which he found no shortage. He earned a reputation and later a small fortune that allowed him to move to Illium, where he set up a legitimate business (with a less legitimate side). There, he attracted the attention of Illium's competing mega-corporatist caste, who paid him even bigger fortunes to uncover the secrets of their rivals. He met business associates there too, like Vyrntallius, who advised him and helped him grow his business even further.
It wasn't too long before the Salarian found himself owning one of Nos Astra's many skyscrapers. From there, he managed his growing business, establishing contacts, purchasing property, and overseeing what he did best; espionage.
Positive Traits: Padok Meks is an outstanding infiltrator. Having served covertly in many of the recent galactic conflicts, he is very experienced and operates well under extreme pressure. He's calculating, smart and patient. His calm and courteous demeanor helps him make allies and fool enemies. Though arguably a negative trait in the criminal world, Padok Meks follows a bit of a code. He carries himself with a strong moral code that separates him from the average blood-thirsty mercenary. In his mind, only those who have done wrong are fair game.
Negative Traits: Cautious to a fault. His reluctance to grow his business any further, for fear of attracting the authorities, has put a nozzle on the operation's full potential. As mentioned above, his strong moral code prevents him from carrying out jobs in which the killing or harm of innocent bystanders is unavoidable, which, in a place like the criminal world, seriously limits his list of potential jobs (on the other hand, there is hardly a shortage of targets who are fair game). Padok Meks is no head-on fighter, and as such, has to rely on speed and being the first to attack, usually by surprise. Rushing into battle is something he prefers not to do if possible, in the interest of staying alive.
