The 5th better have some good explanation on how it came to be then :/ I am all for freedom of choice but you have to admit that there are a few problems with it. If they're a splinter group that originated form Sol, it would invalidate Duck's entire history, something he put some work into for a change. Given these are early space nations, It doesn't make sense for it to be done in secret - somebody would definitely miss even a single FTL capable ship. ANd I'd rather not see many more interdimensional and any time travelers.

One way to make a splinter group is simply a sabotage of an FTL capable ship by terrorists or something, which caused the possibly-a-colony-ship to go way off course and keep going until it smashed into a semi-habitable moon or planet, in which they started over from scratch because they were stuck. Like something from a Christopher G. Nutall book, or like the game Rimworld.

They do have FTL, but they rarely use it. Only really using it for scouting ahead of the rest of the fleet, or branching out to look for signs of their lost race. And, of course, for looking for dead planets to mine.
