Alrighty. Here she is. Let me know if anything needs to be fixed/changed.
Hannah Bond
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Personality:Most who meet Hannah think of her as an ice queen. Cold, aloof, disdainful, unsympathetic and just generally a bitch. The truth is that Hannah has been mute since birth, no amount of therapy able to coax her voice out of her throat, making communication with most difficult for her. Her disability combined with her natural shyness proved prohibitive in the formation of friendships of any sort. A lonely childhood has made her wary, even outright mistrustful of others and it is extremely difficult for her to work in groups.
Despite her taciturn nature, Hannah is extremely bright and intellectually curious. She is a passionate lover of books, extremely hard working, attended a top university and, until her recruitment, she was lined up to be valedictorian of her graduating class. She loves puzzles and riddles, is an avid botanist, and though she is no good at either she also has a deep fondness for art and music.
Appearance:Hannah is painfully petite in stature, standing at four foot eleven. If not for her femininely curved frame, it would be easy to mistake her for a child, and she often wears clothes that accentuate her generous bust in order to make the distinction clear. Her blonde hair is almost always pulled back in a neat French braid, and she tends to wear extremely tall pumps to make up for her deficit in height. She has no piercings or tattoos and dislikes jewelry and makeup.
Biography:Hannah was born to Dr. Elizabeth Orson-Bond and Dr. Martin Bond, both top medical authorities in their respective fields. Dedicated as they were to their careers, the Doctors had little time for their young progeny and left the bulk of her rearing in the capable hands of their household staff. The nanny, Marguerite, was the first to notice something wrong with the tot.
She was taken to a speech therapist. When that proved fruitless she was taken to another, and another, and another. Her parents called in favors from the leading experts in child psychology, neurology, anyone they thought could get her to talk. But still Hannah remained silent, and eventually her parents gave up on her, wondering how two brilliant people could produce such an unintelligent child. Only Marguerite seemed to have the patience to care for the girl, reading to her and talking to her constantly, even if she didn’t respond.
Embarrassed by their perceived failure, Elizabeth and Martin confined Hannah to their house, bringing in tutors to work with their special needs daughter rather than sending her to kindergarten. To their surprise, however, Hannah proved to be outstandingly intelligent, tearing through lesson plans faster than her instructors could throw them together. Needless to say, her parents were thrilled.
When she turned 6 her parents enrolled her in an elementary school for gifted children, a well-meaning gesture that took a disastrous turn. Hannah was mercilessly bullied by the other students and it was around this time that her abilities began to manifest. Even when they weren’t speaking she could feel the malicious intent of her peers. She could anticipate them throwing her off the jungle gym, tearing at her uniform, cutting her hair with craft scissors, locking her in the utility closet, but was powerless to do anything about it. To make it worse, the strength of their emotions when they grabbed her consistently made her lose consciousness. Gone was the comforting embrace of Marguerite, the one person from whom she received a constant stream of unconditional affection. She was alone in a swarm of pre-pubescent monsters.
Halfway through second grade the incident happened. The other children were beating on her during recess, as they usually did, when Millicent Brandanowitz picked her up and threw her down the slide. Something in Hannah snapped and a pulse of anger ricocheted like a shock wave from her tiny body. When the teachers finally came outside to check on the children they found a battlefield. The students were enraged, feral, attacking each other blindly with their teeth, nails, anything they could get their hands on. They could not be calmed. Eventually the police had to be called in and the kids physically restrained and sedated. It was a miracle none of them had died and most had injuries sever enough to require hospitalization and emergency room treatment. The only one who had avoided the carnage was Hannah, and though they couldn’t prove anything it was suspicious enough to justify her expulsion.
Once again Dr. Bond and Dr. Orson-Bond brought in experts to educate their child in the safety of their home. This system suited Hannah just fine and she threw herself into her studies while simultaneously trying to build up a mental block for the emotional information that assaulted her every minute of the day. As her knowledge grew, so did her tolerance for those around her until she was mostly able to drown out the emotional noise if she focused hard enough.
By the time she was in university, her control and mental defense was almost flawless, though touch still proved extremely dangerous. She kept to herself, choosing to live off campus starting her freshman year with only her plants and her books for company.
Hannah wasn’t stupid. When the government issued the mandatory blood test, she knew she was in trouble. She managed to swap her blood sample out with that of another student, but was sure it wouldn’t be long before her deception was discovered. Terrified and without anyone to turn to, all Hannah wants is to find a way out.
Power:Hannah is gifted with mental capabilities far above that of an average human. In addition to being highly intelligent, Hannah is an empath, capable of reading the emotions of those around her. Touch increases the strength of her empathy, and while it does make her more sensitive to emotional nuances, Hannah can be easily overwhelmed and as such generally avoids human contact. Attempts at the emotional manipulation of others have proved prohibitively dangerous so far due to her lack of control and are ill-advised. Hannah is also slightly precognizant, able to anticipate the events that will happen in her immediate surroundings 10-15 minutes in advance.
