So, I've been thinking about starting a roleplay of this sort for quite a while, and I decided that there would be no better time to gather interest than now. If you don't like reading, and would just like to hear the basics of the idea, here's a quick summary:
Magical girls in space.
You take the role of a crew member on a starship loaded up with mankind's first, experimental FTL drive. It is a classic image of the future, except for one key detail. The existence of Magic. Magic is the source of the incredible technological marvels that exist in the modern world. It is the power to manifest the soul, to tap into the nigh unlimited power it possesses, and to harness that power in the form of special, reality-warping abilities. It is a truly incredible power, through which all of mankind's problems can be solved.
Magic isn't for everyone, though. It is a power at its strongest in a pure soul, and the presence of just the slightest drop of corruption can greatly dilute the magical potential of the magic-user. Because of this, children make the ideal candidates for magic use, and despite what were originally seen as ethical issues with the practice, it has now become commonplace for young boys and girls to take up careers in magic to help provide for the future of the human race.
Your purpose in going on this journey into the stars is the test the FTL drive, and to find and identify other sources of magic in the universe. The hypothesis is, wherever you can find magical power, you'll find intelligent life. So, by narrowing their search to just places recognized as having high concentrations of magic, the team should be able to quickly identify and locate any alien life that exists out there. Through this mission, we can confirm the age old question of whether we truly are alone in the universe, or not.
Okay?
So, what does everyone think? Is this an idea that might interest you? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts and such before we get started~
(And if not, I'd love to hear any ideas you might have to improve it. It is quite the work in progress, after all~)
