@mpjama2

Also, one thing I forgot to say - the "Secret Police" would be better if it were MI5 or MI6, as the King's Men sounds more Victorian than anything else. Both MI5 and 6 started in 1909, so there'd be no problem with time periods there.

I'd have to wait to see the Cs, but as long as its not FECK OFF YA ENGLISH BASTARD it should be fine

Would that be relevant 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse? Most people would have little knowledge about England and Scotland, and know nothing about their history whatsoever, especially since most wouldn't be able to read. The vast majority of people would exist in isolated and ignorant communities - I can't personally see how any Scottish national identity would survive in any form.

I know you slapped down Wade for expressing his view, but I felt it bore mentioning.

Not necessarily.

The NCR was built on pre-War American value (albeit skewed) which means some traditions had to survive and Caesar made the Legion by literally modeled it on some bits of the Roman Empire from history textbooks. Can't imagine the UK not having either of those. Also the Great Khans, its safe to say they must have also used some historical material or else they just got really lucky with coincidences.

There's also the vaults or Havens in this case; its safe to assume that they wouldn't drag people from all across Britain into Havens and have them intermingle until their original cultures were gone. They'd be populated with the local population, thus keeping knowledge of the traditions of the magical lands of Scotland and England and such alive.

I'm going with the fact the Scottish Highlands were isolated enough to likely to survive nuclear fallout.

Fallout likes to play with bias and how it kind of survives and gets twisted over time. In fact it would survie in the same way the American identity did. Hell, you talk about people not being able to read etc.

Caesars legion anyone? :P

@Sep@ClocktowerEchos But Caesar was one of the few literate members of the Legion, and it was only by chance he found a copy of the Comentarii de Bello Gallico, and he took great strides to prevent anyone else from knowing that their civilization had been based (rather inaccurately) on Rome. The specific tribal identities in America are very likely to be the twisted results of a culture originally designed by someone with a knowledge of history, but a history of which modern day tribals have no appreciation of. The NCR, too, was created by residents of Vault 15, and it was through them that democratic ideas survived, not through the active enfranchisement of citizens.

Aside from the Enclave, people seem to live extremely sedentary, subsistent lives, with little need or facility to care about any form of national identity, and those more civilised factions with some understanding of the past are the ones who tend to actively oppose the trappings that lead to war - abuse of technology(Brotherhood of Steel), nationalism (Caesar's Legion), and so on.

I'm sure some vague sense of Highlander isolationist attitude survived the Atomic bomb blast, but I wonder would they still identify southerners as "the English", or would anyone in England care in the slightest?

I'm not saying anyone in England would care :P That's what would make it more fun.

I suppose that would fit in with Fallout's vibe quite well. A thumping nationalist who has absolutely no idea why he holds those views would fit well with the empty patriotism on display in the states.

I'd just like to remind everyone, people tend to pour alot of their effort and creativity into their character sheets, and as such I'd rather we didn't all weigh in and criticize their creations. I don't want to repress people's right to express their opinion, but if I have an issue with someone's character I'll let them know via PM. If you have any problems with another player's character I'd like you to let me know through PM, so as to avoid a big public spectacle.

Cheers.

The introductory IC post is coming soon. I'll refrain from mentioning specific names, so that those who've yet to submit their CS's can catch up.

If you want I can withdraw so that you can get things going.

If you have enough people that'll be fine.
