@smarty0114Charlotte finished her second cup of coffee and placed it back down on the table, still staring out the window. Her mind was in it's own little world, running the little dream she had seen through in her head, over and over. Why had it been coming up all of a sudden? It wasn't like there was anything to provoke it. The wolf attacks hadn't been bear her and she hadn't even encountered another one since the attack one year earlier. Oh well.
She shook her head and looked back down at her half eaten biscuit, pushing the plate away. Charlotte had lost her appetite. She gently rubbed her eyes and yawned, looking forward to some sleep when she got back home. A well deserved nap.
After about a 10 minute walk, Sophie arrived at the hospital. She walked up to the front desk and checked in.
"Excuse me. I'm here for an appointment with Doctor Charlotte Edwards? My name is Sophie Fairchild. I should be scheduled in with her for a check up in about 5 minutes." She said to the secretary behind the counter.
The secretary looked down at the computer in front of her and typed in a few things before looking back up at Sophie with a slight confused and concerned expression. "Yes you are scheduled for a appointment for Doctor Edwards and you are checked in. However it seems she checked out of work for a break about 15 minutes ago. I will call her right away. You may be seated and I apologise for the wait." The secretary replied. Sophie nodded with a concerned expression and took a seat in the waiting room.
The secretary then proceeded to the nearest phone and dialed Charlotte's cell phone number. "Excuse me, Doctor Edwards? You have a patient here at the hospital by the name of Sophie Fairchild. She's here for an appointment."
Charlotte practically had a heart attack when her phone went off. She had been completely zoned out thinking about sleeping when the nurse had called. She picked up the phone and her face dropped as soon as she heard what the nurse had to say
"I....I am so sorry. I'll be there as soon as I can." Charlotte hung up the phone, grabbed a twenty from her wallet and laid it on the table, and then sprinted out the door while calling back
"Keep the change!"She ran to her house and quickly changed out her shoes, then pulled her hair up in a ponytail before hopping into her car and roaring down the road towards the clinic, the purr of the 65' Mustang resonating through the narrow streets.
She pulled up to the clinic and hopped out of her car, locking it quickly before taking a moment to catch her breath outside. After her breathing had returned to a resonable rate, she walked inside and sent an apologetic smile towards Sophie before signing back in at the nurses office, whispering to her quickly
"I am so sorry...it's been a rough day." She then proceeded towards Sophie, a warm smile spread across her face.
"Morning Sophie, my apologies for being late. If you'll follow me this way, we can get started.""You mean afternoon? You're still half asleep, aren't you Miss Charlotte?" Sophie replied jokingly with a slight laugh as she stood up. She then followed Charlotte to the back room where she would be examined.
"Long night here at the clinic. Didn't get much rest unfortunately."After the door was firmly shut behind the two, Sophie stripped down to her undergarments and sat on the bench, the sanitary paper crinkling under her weight.
"So have you heard of th wolf attacks lately? I'm actually happy that Im sick for once. Means I won't be risking my life on some lame trip." She said.
"Then again, I never really planned on going." Sophie laughed a bit at the thought.
Charlotte took a moment to put on gloves and then proceeded to wipe down her stethoscope with an alcohol swab, just to be sure. She then walked over and held the bell of the stethoscope in her hand to warm it up before placing it on Sophie's upper chest, then her upper back, each time asking her to take a deep breath.
"Any seizures since last year?""Nope! Not one! I think I finally am getting better!" Sophie replied with a happy smile.
She then moved over to the blood pressure machine and wheeled it over, wrapping the cuff around Sophie's left bicep and pressing a button to start the measurement. She wrote down a few things while the machine did it's work and then looked back up to Sophie, smirking as she mentioned the wolf attacks.
"They say that there's something different about these wolves. Don't know how much I believe though."With a drawn out yawn, Charlotte scribbled a few notes down on her clipboard and noted the time, before taking off the gloves and looking back to Sophie
"Alright, could you step onto the scale over in the corner?""Don't believe in it much, huh? I heard that it was werewolves." Sophie replied slightly mockingly making a goofy "spooky" gesture. She then got up and proceeded to step on the scale.
"You know, I was told that it's rude to ask a woman her weight." She then replied jokingly and stuck out her tounge in a goofy manor.
"Werewolves huh? Have you been watching too many horror movies..." Charlotte said with a super obvious sarcastic tone, then laughed lightly at her weight comment.
"But since you are my doctor and a friend, I won't hold it against you too much." Sophie teased with a smile.
Charlotte quickly took note of her weight, before getting closer to read her height off from above Sophie's head. A few more scribbles on her clipboard. She looked up at Sophie again and smiled
"Well, blood pressure is almost back to normal levels at around 100/65 and your heart rate is still a bit on the fast side, but all in all it certainly looks like you're improving." Charlotte stood up and went for the door.
"I'll leave you to get changed. Meet me out at the front desk when you're ready."She walked out to the desk and handed the nurse her clipboard to enter into the computer.
"Print off a patient summary sheet for me, would you?" she asked before walking into her office for a moment.
Sophie nodded and immediately got dressed as soon as Charlotte left the room. She wore a happy and proud smile on her face. Finally... Finally she was making progress.
Once finally dressed, Sophie proceeded to the main counter where she scheduled her next appointment for next year. She then took a seat near the front desk and patiently waited for Charlotte to arrive.
Charlotte walked back out of her office and grabbed the sheet from the printer, signing it and handing it over to Sophie.
"There you are young lady. I'll see you back here next year. Oh, and say hello to your father for me, will ya?" She said, her light Irish accent coming through right at the end.
She almost looked sad to see Sophie go, having no one to really go home to.
"OK I will. See you later, OK?" Sophie said with a smile then left the hospital.
After about another 10 minutes of walking, Sophie arrived back at the café.
"Hey, Aron! Hey, Gage! I'm back!" Sophie called smiling to the twins and deliberately ignored Charlie. She quickly went to the coat wrack and took off her hoodie before changing into her apron. She wore a happy smile on her face as she took the broom from the supply closet and went out front of the café to sweep the outside seats.
