If you want to play both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I'd recommend trying out A Tale of Two Wastelands.

If they at least have the decency to say that they're leaving instead of simply ghosting the RP, that's good enough to me.

I originally got into forum roleplaying on the official Bethesda Game Studios Forums in 2007 or 2008. When the forums were replaced with Bethesda.net, I was one of several close-knit Fallout RPers who came here.

Captain Argus Fellborn

By the time the pirate had arrived, the beasts had already begun to break into the houses. This wasn't good- these humans wouldn't last very long cornered in their home. Just what had gotten into these monsters anyway, he wondered.

The cause was irrelevant. All that mattered now was keeping as many of the warm blood-bags alive as possible.

Fortunately, he wasn't going to do this alone. Argus spotted a woman attired in a rather out-of-place nun's habit exiting a building, accompanied by a small pack of gorebats. Another child of Ichor, no doubt. He would need to speak to her after this was over, but there wasn't any time for that at the moment.

Argus drew his sword and dashed after a beast that he spotted making its way into a building, slicing through any of the creatures that might have been in his way. The vampire raised his cutlass and whether or not the beast turned around upon hearing the vampire's footsteps, the blade would be swung with the intention to decapitate.

So much blood...yet it was no doubt tainted and impure.

Fleuri Jodeau

"All of the above, actually," Fleuri replied to Lilianna's inquiry about how he'd improve himself. "The dream made me rather keenly aware of my shortcomings and weaknesses. Then when I was pitted against the Mirror Knight, he demonstrated to me my own form without the flaws and vulnerabilities. He didn't just beat me at my own game, he made it his game."

"Then, not more than a few minutes ago, Lein showed up with a peculiar guest. A servant of the Witch-Knight, a rabbit-eared swordswoman from far-off lands, come to observe and instruct, on her mistress' behalf," he continued. "Lein suggested that I spar with her for a demonstration. She moved her sword so quickly that it caused gusts of wind so sharp that they scored the stonework, as a mere side effect." Fleuri pointed to the spots in the training yard where the wind had marred the stone and cracked wood.

"I don't know how well her specific sword movements will translate to the weapons that I use, but it really put into perspective what's possible if one puts enough work into mastering swordsmanship and refuses to accept the limitations of what they think is possible for them, and that's something I clearly need to work on."

Would Lilianna be offended or bothered by the praise of the foreigner's sword mastery? Would she have any interest in testing herself further against this outsider? Fleuri hoped that he hadn't unintentionally offended the senior knight in his praise of the rabbit woman's skill.

"Fascinating," Fleuri replied, watching the match, noting Fanilly's maneuver. "Up until now I was not sure how widespread the dream had been, other than that several among Fanilly's retinue for the ball had received it. Amazing that Dame Merilia has the power to twist time and perception to give a similar, simultaneous sending to every knight."

It would be worth asking the Gentle Blade if she remembers dueling Lilianna, Fleuri considered. The elf's answer could provide some enlightening revelation on how "real" the founding Iron Roses in the dream were.

"Unfortunately, unlike yourself I think a lot of us were found wanting," he admitted. "After an assessment like that, all I've been able to think about is improving through any avenue I can grasp for, and I suspect that the Captain and Dame Serenity have the same thing on their mind. Sparring, recounting the dream, seeking instruction from knights more skilled than myself...whatever I can to do get better."

Fleuri was a bit surprised at how much Lilianna expected of Fanilly. Sure, the instructor was a duelist without peer, but did she really think she could train a child to be able to overcome any of her fellow knights within just a few short years? And who did she consider Fanilly's peers, anyway?

"Do you believe that you've had enough time to raise her up to the level of mastery to defeat any of her peers?" Fleuri asked. "Then again, if the dream that Merilia sent us is any sign, I must concede that it isn't exactly a high bar."

Fleuri wasn't sure if the veteran instructor would've also received the dream. She'd certainly be skilled enough to do better than Fleuri did.

"Did she visit you last night, too?" he asked.

Ethelred moved to block the swing with his shield. The force from Grainne's blow was harder than he had anticipated, almost as if it was a real duel. Had he offended her by not using his magic? Was it pent up frustration at being out of commission for this mission? Or did she just dislike Ethelred?

"Very well, if you desire, I will stop holding back," Ethelred said as he channeled his ice powers through his shield in an attempt to freeze Grainne's sword to it. He then pushed forward and suddenly willed the ice from his shield to release her sword, intent on imbalancing her. If she managed to keep her footing and not fall over, Ethelred would follow up with a horizontal smack from his lance in another attempt to knock her down.

When the Harzel knight shouted, Ethelred immediately stopped what he was doing to see what was going on. What looked like a massive boulder was rolling straight for the fort at incredible speeds.

Ethelred mounted his horse and prepared for a fight, while staying out if its way. If the boulder was moving more slowly, he'd attempt to freeze the ground in front in an attempt to make it skid, but there wasn't enough time.

Fleuri turned away from the duel to see Tyaethe's swift return...carrying a woman, who was in turn carrying a child. This was no ordinary woman, though. He recognized her as Lilianna Belwiss, senior Iron Rose and mentor to Fanilly, and the child must be her young daughter. While she currently was working a desk job and training the captain due to having a young daughter, Fleuri remembered seeing her swordplay skill firsthand in tournaments many years ago, back before he was a knight. And was that a knife sticking out of Tyaethe?

The vampire's audacity was truly a sight to behold. The perks of being an un-living legend, no doubt.

"Surely you'd like to see how your protégé performs against House Arcedeen's scion?" he asked Lilianna. "If you'd rather your daughter not be exposed to this, I can look after her for a few minutes."

Roger Falkner and Shortclaw

The griffin circled the area three times at steadily increasing altitude, both beast and rider closely looking over the area for any sign of the enemy. Perplexingly, there was nothing. Roger had initially figured that the necromancers figured out that trouble was coming and fled, but there was no sign of the enemy, nor any telltale evidence of a large group hastily retreating from the camp. The broken barricades and torches suggested some sort of scuffle, but there were no bodies, just some bloodstains that Roger managed to spot during the lowest pass.

Unless they used some manner of dark witchcraft, there was nowhere they could've gone but into the ground.

Roger signaled Shortclaw to return to the Lions. The griffin complied, but instead of a slow descent, it pulled into a dive, then braked hard once it was low, before gracefully touching down on a suitably flat spot in the bandit camp. If there was anyone in the immediate vicinity, they would experience powerful gusts of wind from the griffin's arrival. Evidently, Shortclaw was harboring some disappointment at not finding any foes to swoop down upon.

"We saw no sign that they retreated overland," he reported to Velvetica as he readjusted his helmet, which had been slightly misaligned by the dive. "Some bloodstains, but no tracks, and no people."

Captain Argus Fellborn

Argus was in the process of examining the necklace that the witch had handed him, pondering the power it might hold, when he heard the howl in the distance. He wasn't sure exactly what sort of beast was making it, but it didn't sound like a good sign. Most likely it was coming from another twisted beast.

There would be no respite for the pirate. Charlotte suggested that the pirate get to the village immediately. Back in the previous age, Argus could have cared less for a village, but given the current state of the world, human blood was a precious resource, and he could not afford to let the beasts destroy the only local source of the substance. What a strange reversal, to go from preying upon them to protecting them, Argus thought to himself.

"I can scarcely believe that I am doing this," Argus remarked as he pocketed the necklace, before taking off towards the village. According to Cynthia, the other vampires were in the village- perhaps he'd finally be able to figure out just who else among his kind had either survived or been brought back.

With Rui having left to set up her residence here, that left Fleuri with Tyaethe, Fanilly, and Serenity. The thing of most interest still happening in the training yard was the sparring match between Fanilly and Serenity. Both of these young women were candidates for captaincy, and consequently this would be a good match. Fanilly had been trained by one of the order's finest duelists- certainly its best among its active members. Serenity had been trained by whatever resources the House Arcedeen could muster, and given their dream of making her an Iron Rose captain, it was no doubt the very best that the house could provide.

While Fleuri was curious to see who would prevail, his current interest was more a matter of their techniques. Fanilly's swordsmanship mentor tended to be busy raising a family and therefore was probably unavailable to teach lower, less important members of the order, but he might be able to learn something from watching. After everything that had happened, he was considering returning to his family tomb and (assuming his family allowed it) taking Candlestick as a sidearm, and watching these two go at it might not only help him better combat attacks from arming swords, it might help him better use one.

"If I may, Dame Tyaethe," he asked the vampire, as the match begun, "One of the things I noticed in both our last two battles and the dream was that I don't know much about fighting mages and beasts. You're the Roses' pre-eminent beast slayer- would you be willing to educate me on fighting those types of foes sometime?"

Fleuri's character opinion chart:

Fanilly
She's so far proven to be a fine captain and a fine warrior, despite her young age. Her captaincy has already been tested somewhat, but will she be able to handle failure with the same grace? Will she be able to make the difficult decision? Will she keep it together when things become overwhelming? Only time will tell, and I hope she's up to it.

Tyaethe
A little eccentric she may be, but Dame Tyaethe is nonetheless a living legend. A former companion of the Starlight Saint, the powers of a vampire without the weaknesses due to her good relationship to Reon, centuries of experience, and powerful magic, yet she's always been content to serve rather than command. I hope that I can live up to what she expects of me.

Gerard
Sir Gerard is a good sort. A poor kid who became a mercenary, gained faith in Reon, and eventually obtained knighthood through his deeds in battle. He knows little about nobility, but understand knighthood well- just the kind of person that Thaln's noble class needs more of.

Fionn
Like Gerard, he's a pious commoner-to-knight success story. I haven't interacted with him much, but he's quite the stalwart knight, and despite his commoner background, he gets along very well with royalty. The aristocracy of Thaln needs more people like Gerard and Fionn. And a lot less of people like Lord Brias and Lord Durante.

Renar
I have had little contact with Sir Renar, but I know that he's been grievously wronged by his father, Lord Brias. Joining the Iron Roses may have given him the titles of noble and knight that his father denied him, but wrongs like that aren't just forgotten, as evidenced by his interactions with his half-brother at the ball. Still, I have to admire that he never let his father break him, and had the will to become a knight.

Lein
Sir Lein is not the type of person I'd expect to join the Iron Roses. He's more of a rogue than a knight, with no noble name and no history that I am aware of. He's spoken of his past before, and claims that his family are all dead, but I can't be sure if he's telling the truth. His lack of a right arm suggests he's endured terrible trauma in the past, and his possession of such a fine magical prosthesis suggests that he is well-connected. Looking back at the ball, I wonder- was his Lady Cteline disguise just him being an irreverent gadfly as usual...or could he have been hiding from someone?

Serenity
From what I know from my family's contacts, Dame Serenity was House Arcedeen's attempt to raise up a candidate for Captain of the Iron Roses. I'm not surprised that seniors chose Fanilly over her. Serenity may be skilled and well-educated, but she's independent and doesn't like to rely on anyone, and that's not getting into the possible political motivations behind her upbringing. Even so, she's a fine knight and a definite boon to the order. One thing I've noticed of her is that she doesn't drink. Is it a matter of piety and temperance, or does she not want to risk loosening her lips for some reason?

Nicomede
If there's any knight in the Iron Roses with an even worse father than Renar's, it's Sir Nicomede. To be disowned, disgraced, and disinherited for making a brief withdrawal in the face of a larger force- and one that led to a loyalist victory regardless- Lord Durant should be ashamed of himself. As for Nicomede himself, he's a fine fighter, a capable user of water magic, and- contrary to what his father may say- a competent tactician.

Steffen
The horned Ingvarr people are fine warriors, and Sir Steffen is no exception. I don't know much about of his past, other than that he's a hero of the War of the Red Flag who personally saved the lives of several Iron Roses, and having fought alongside him against Alfrid, I can attest that he's definitely someone to have at one's side in battle.

Vier
Like myself, Sir Vier built his reputation fighting for money and glory before embarking on the path of an Iron Rose. Like Steffen, he's proven to be a good knight to fight alongside. His mixture of swordsmanship and magic is an intriguing combination.

Cecilia
Like Lein, Cecilia is more of a rogue than an archetypical knight. Her past is a mystery, other than that she first came to prominence during the war of the Red Flag. Still, her skill at archery and wind magic makes her quite a very useful addition to the Roses, and I can't deny that she's contributed to Thaln's cause.
