@Tortoise@Timemaster@Irredeemable Well, here is my mostly done but still a definitely WIP submission. Hopefully it work in the end. Maybe. Sorta-kinda? I'll get to see after things are done at least. ^^;

1/28: So outside of the one section that is currently blank due to the need to develop it over time or add over time, whether far sooner or much later, the app should be generally done! Should be.

Edit: 2/4: ((Ignore The Above App, Because Yes Tort I Did The Thing And Made A New Overhauled App IN 6 HOURS, AAAAAAAAAAAAA))

@Yam I Am Ey, here's a thing I finally wrote.

The Tale Of The Monkey And The Snake

-The Grand Escape-

The Great Escape was bustling with patrons. The success of both Gemini and the Mavericks meant that they were gaining influence in the area. They were starting to carry out more operations, and they needed external help for a lot of that. Naturally, the heart of all freelance activity was thriving because of it. They might not have seen eye to eye on a single thing, but they all loved money and they all liked the business.

This also made it a relatively safe place for meetups. Needless to say, the life of a freelance esper can get pretty dicey, so they tend to frown on people stirring up shit in their outposts. The Great Escape was one such outpost, and nobody was allowed to hurt anyone else.

Viper had said that she would meet with Lilliah and/or Silmeria later to pick up a box, but she had been attacked. It was not evident if she would return or not, and no specific time had been given. There wasn’t any sign of her, but Viper wore a pretty uncanny suit last time she appeared, so who knew?

Lilliah looked about the crowd as she walked along, clad in her usual sleeveless suit and having a more stoic expression on her face as she read the crowd with the best poker face she could manage. Not too hard if she imagined…less pleasant times in her life. She was looking and listening for anything that might indicate Viper was around, the gift kept safely in an inside pocket of hers, though she also sought to keep her guard up in case of anything…going sideways. The increase in business for her patrons was good, but at the same time the Mavericks had some influence here too. It was a two-way street, and one that left her somewhat nervous but also trying to keep neutral in a place like the Great Escape for a good reason as well.

She had no idea if Viper was going to even show up after Merry’s, admittedly empathizable and relatively justified, attack on the other female esper. Viper seemed the sort to stick to business and keep it at that, and Lilliah was under no foolish preconceptions she could change it otherwise. It was more a thing initially done out of stupid monkey-like curiosity, one she silently swore at her esper form in her mind for pushing on her, and yet now she was hoping to satiate that curiosity without reaching out to get bitten in the hand either. Truth be told, she wanted to see why Viper wanted it so bad. If it got her information, then it was good for the future if she ever ran into Viper again. If it didn’t get her information, she wasn’t going to stick her hand in the serpent’s mouth for it one bit…

While snakes had a reputation for being stealthy, it was hard not to notice Viper’s neon colored hair sticking out from under a black baseball cap. She had her hands shoved into pockets in her jean vest and was staring across the table into space. Or at least her head was pointed straight ahead, her yellow eyes were scanning everyone who walked past her table. Though Viper would have no realistic way of spotting Lilliah, as she had only ever seen her in the esper state.

Noticing the familiar hair, Lilliah pretended not to notice at first before making her way slowly over there and taking visible notice the second time. She sat down at the table across from Viper, looking at her right back in those yellow eyes. It was a far different situation than being in her esper form for this, with the caveat that she was more serious and stoic here than her esper form ever allowed. Looked totally different too. Even so, the Gemini Esper was not going to play all of her cards in a single hand either…

“Are you Viper?” she asked in a rather formalized tone, albeit with a little exasperation tinting her words, lacing her own fingers together as she rested her forearms on the table, “You match the description I was given well enough by my client. I was paid to bring something to you.”

Lilliah pulled her left arm back, reaching into a side pocket on her vest before pulling out the package itself. A small gift wrapped green and tied off in a gold and red bow. She gently pushed the package itself into the middle of the table, right between the two of them, without even batting an eye.

Viper hadn’t budged an inch, even after Lilliah presented the box. Though her eyes were moving all over the place. Before long, she turned to look at the box.

”Is that what they’re calling me?” Viper had never stated what her alias was. Though given that “viper” was written across her armor, it was probably a title she understood.

With cautious hands, Viper pulled the ribbon off of the box. The sight of such a pretty gift attracted attention from other tables, but that didn’t seem to bother Viper. She set the lid aside and pushed past some red tissue paper to get at the item inside. What she pulled out was a plush of a tiger. It had a big head with a cat smile stitched onto its face, and big marble eyes. Viper’s brow jumped when she revealed the contents. But after a quick inspection, she set the plush off the side and looked across the table.

”So that’s it?” Viper folded her arms. ”No other instructions? You were just paid to bring it to me?”

Lilliah looked at the tiger plush with a raised eyebrow for a moment, but as Viper asked a question she let out a small but exasperated sigh. However, her face did not change its expression otherwise. She looked Viper back dead in the eyes afterward.

“For the most part, though the client offered a bonus to learn more about the package and yourself if I got the chance. They were curious to ask about why this package matters to you, and the nature of its contents. Yet around here, and many other places, looks can be more than deceptive. They can be a serpent ready to bite your hand with lethal intent if you reach too far into that enticing-looking hole in the ground.

So pardon my caution, but I’ve had such a ‘bonus’ opportunity like that bite me in the ass for not feeling out the situation first. A dumb mistake, but one I wish to not repeat again in the most blunt sense. Hence my disclosure of these things at this venture.”

The female esper ran a hand through her own bangs before resting her forearms back on the table once more.

“…Though I will freely admit I feel somewhat more curious about this myself now, though, given it seems to be simply a plush toy of a tiger. Also given the very curious nature of how you and my client ran into each other, and the fact that they arranged for me to come to this meeting at all in the first place in their stead.

To that end, may I ask what this package is to you and the nature and purpose of it in the first place?”

Viper Stared at Lilliah for a moment. But her serious exterior broke when she chuckled. ”What is this?” She put her hand on the tiger and pulled it closer to herself. ”I told two people about this meetup, and I knew damn well they were Gems. If they did their job, they’d already know what was inside the box. I expect the government to stick its nose into everything.” She sat back in her seat. ”Come to think of it, what is it with the ‘they paid me to drop this off’ shit? Gemini has operatives for that. It doesn’t make any sense. Unless…” Viper squinted her eyes. ”Unless one of them decided to work outside the system?” After a moment, that guttural laugh that was more fit for an older man escaped her mouth. ”If that’s the case, this is really spicy.” She tugged on her mask and adjusted her seat. ”I’m Afterglow. The ‘Viper’ thing was just an alias I used to appeal to Cobra’s ego. The proudest people are the easiest to manipulate. Just gotta fangirl hard enough and make them think they stand a chance to get some. My goal was just to fight the government espers, retreat, and snag the box once Cobra fled his office. Things got complicated.” She held up the plush. ”As for this? It’s a grimoire. Now, that ‘someone’ who hired you is probably well aware I can just blink out of the area. If you want me to stay, you’re going to need to keep things entertaining.” Afterglow pointed across the table. ”Enter the esper state. Now.”

For a moment Lilliah was silent, pulling her arms down beneath the table…but then a brief shine of transformation glimmered before the visage of Wukong sat before the merc’s very eyes. It was good they were in an isolated part of the establishment, though it wasn’t an ideal situation to be seen transforming. Now, however, as Afterglow’s eyes looked where the girl talking to her had once sat…Lilliah was wearing a grin, propping her legs up on the side of the table and crossing them with her hands behind her head and a cheeky grin on her face. The most idiotic, stupid, and foolish entrance she could have made, smiling into the face of certain danger right in front of her.

…But for once, she had to swallow her pride to agree with her monkey-brained esper form. If she had to do this, because why not, she had to play along as best as she could. Even so, she gave a small chuckle as she swiftly picked up the grimoire-toy and began to look it over curiously. She made no moves to run away or any such thing, just simply to sit and look at it carefully without a visible care in the world.

“I just couldn’t resist! But it lasted longer than I’d hoped, so there’s that much. Was curious why you wanted that box so bad, and wanted to see how you’d react to a ‘third party’ being sent. Not sure if you are much willing to humor this all of course, or if I’m inherently screwed!”

Afterglow sighed. ”Damn, I would have bet money you were the sniper.”

“Hmm? If I had sent her, this place would have been leveled. Don’t think she even heard you back there either, given the murderous rage understandably going on.”

The simian esper felt the softness of the plush and stared into its little eyes, her grin fading into a look of curious examination. Likely it wouldn’t react to her anywho, but all the same she was simply indulging her esper side to help play up the act in part. Not that it wasn’t at least partly genuine, her esper form made it easy, but giving into that influence was not something she did normally for a reason.

“Still, even though all of this could bite me in the ass or worse right now, I’ll hand this back in a second while we're both still here. So no rush. Not like you couldn’t kill me here or blink away with this thing anyways if I tried to run with it, and we both know that well enough by now~”

Viper’s hand briefly surged with magic. A yellow mist encapsulated her hand before she relinquished the tiger back to Lilliah.

Lilliah’s eyes looked back up into Aftertglow’s, that stupid shit-eating grin coming back onto the simian’s face as she sat properly in her seat now. The grimoire was placed back onto the table with noticeable care, sitting equally between herself and the merc. Wukong then rested her elbows on the table, placing her curled-up hands underneath her own chin as she rested her chin on them. The grimoire, for what it was worth was just sitting there staring back at the other esper as only an innocent plush could seem to. Not that it was just a mere plush, as that much was more than obvious by now.

Viper’s eyes swung between the plush tiger and Lilliah. ”So what? You trying to turn this into a date or something?”

“No no no! Not unless you think I’m that good-looking~”

The simian esper gave a teasing wink, before seeming to calm down a little more. This was met with a low growl from Afterglow.

“Truth be told I just wanted to ask about the story behind this grimoire and why you wanted it. The story behind it all. That was all I’d be after here if I can get it.

…Maybe even ask a bit about yourself beyond that, but I figure that would be a bit too dangerous to ask about unless you felt like sharing something extra. Don’t wanna get bit for reaching ‘too far’ down the rabbit hole.”

The female esper sat back and stretched her arms before resting them back on the table, casually this time, but keeping a general positive grin on her face.

Afterglow stared at Lilliah in silence. Her mask may have hidden her mouth, but it was clear by her squint eyes that she wasn’t really sure what to make of the ape esper.

”Fine.” she layed one of her arms along the backrest behind her head. ”My family was really good friends with the police commissioner in precinct eleven. Workaholic, never took a day off. Even on days he wasn’t supposed to be working, he’d be in there filing paperwork or whatever it is they do. ‘It beats sitting at home all day’ he’d say. Jeff really didn’t fit the stereotype of a loud, angry commissioner. I don’t think I ever saw him yell at anyone.” She pointed at the plush. ”My cousin had that plush right there. He used it a few times, but he had a bad habit of leaving it around. It’s kind of big by grimoire standards, but he didn’t like the idea of crushing it inside his pockets. So when we ate with Jeff, he set the tiger down and just forgot about it.” She sighed. ”I said Jeff never got angry at people, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t fuck around from time to time. He knew damn well who that tiger plush belonged to, and he also knew he had a birthday coming up. So he dug through last year’s leftover Christmas supplies and wrapped it up like a gift. He was going to make my cousin wait two weeks for his own plush tiger. He had this whole skit planned where he was going to pull the tiger out of his safe and say he found it at a crime scene or some dumb shit like that. We were all in on it, my parents saw more humor in the situation than I did. But it was just a plush to them. They didn’t know how important it was.”

She reached for a cup of coffee she had set off to the side, and held it up to her mash. Afterglow tapped the center of it, which opened a small port. She poured the coffee into the mask before pushing the cap on her mask back closed. Her filters puffed traces of yellow smoke out of the seams.

”Days before his birthday, Cobra Gang shows up. Jeff was killed, and I may have known just where to look to see where people like him go to hire. I tried to charm my way into King Cobra’s favor. While he did give me my own security detail, it was impossible to enter the commissioner’s office without him leering at me. It wasn’t until big bad gems showed up that I might have had a shot at recovering it. And, well, you know how it went from there.” Afterglow seized the plush tiger and pulled it up to her chest. ”Satisfied? I’m not gunna tell a fuckin’ gem any of my personal details.”

Wuknog nodded in response, her attention having been rapt and admittedly more serious during the entire explanation process. It was a hell of a story to be sure, and even more a hell of a situation to imagine. Yet whether she could trust it as the full truth or not, it was satisfying enough of a tale to help soothe the simian-like curiosity that had pushed her into this situation in the first place. Not a pretty story, but far from the worst she’d seen or heard or frankly experienced thus far…at least from her perspective. Then again she wasn’t going to hold everyone to the bar of that last category in terms of severity...

“Fair enough! Sounds like a hell of a situation to come about to be sure, so at least you have the plush back if nothing else. Cute little thing though~

But hope your cousin does not lose it again. Or, er, however ownership of it goes at this venture.”

The female esper let out a small sigh.

“You did what you felt you had to in order to get it back, plain and simple. Not that I don’t feel at least a bit peeved about the nearly dying thing, but that wasn’t the first time death and I have flirted with each other. Probably won’t be the last either. Though maybe we won’t end up on opposite sides of the battle one day, eh? Haha! Ah, depends on what jobs we both get really.

But I won’t press for more info about you anyway. Your life is yours, and my life is mine. More trouble for everyone than it’s worth to prod any further.”

Wukong leaned back in the seat, putting her elbows on the back of the bench seating behind her before talking again. She didn’t seem as absurdly peppy, more relaxed now after hearing it all, but even so she seemed to pick back up a bit. However, the edges of her mouth seemed to turn up just a bit. Noticeable, but not too much. That simian silliness would not leave her alone in this form, would it?

Afterglow grumbled through most of Lilliah’s closing thoughts. ”I don’t see us fighting together any time soon.” Her eyes briefly scanned her surroundings. ”But you’re one of the more respectable gems I’ve encountered.”

Her body, and the plush, faded into a yellow dust before dissipating into the air.

"A Bloody Nightmare In Barovia"

To say that the situation was something out of an old Hollywood horror movie would be an understatement. Dramatics, lightning, the pile of bodies, the blood, it all screamed of pure and utter theatrics to the female esper's mind. The blood tunnel had been a nice touch, the promises of help were at least something unless the blood mage tried to pull a trick, the gunfire on the way in had been expected. Yet all the same something felt peculiarly 'off' about this mission so far.

It was too perfect a setting for all of this, almost as if they'd been expected in the first place and were being treated to the theater show meant to stall, stop, or kill them to avoid the utter and sheer nuisance of the master of the house even thinking of descending to their level. Had someone asked her to guess the plot point coming next, she'd have guessed things would go downhill until the master showed up with a limp Binky in tow and got defeated on the eve of his bragging victory speech. Or something along that sort of lines of 'hey this was all a ritual, and by shedding blood we summoned a demonic beast or whatever else'.

Or perhaps she was overthinking things, which was very possible.

To see this all on a movie screen, however, was far removed from the real thing and the reality of it all that sat before them. Those were real bullets, real blood, and now a real vampire on an organ acting as if he had control. Truth be told he did in a sense, really, it was his home territory and he has hostages. One of her teammates, on the other hand, seemed ready to just blow his heart out of his chest with the pull of the trigger. Fair.

And yet...

"Permission to cull the vampire?"
Valkyrie/Merry

"Something feels off about this," Wukong said over the team's comms, her body already poised with a readiness to move in whatever direction she needed to by the time the vampire finished talking, not wanting to be ill-prepared for the scenario by standing around gawking or such, "It's too theatrical. Too...neatly organized even. Like they were ready for us, or something else of the sort."

Monke x Safe: 18+, Casual, Fantasy

The female esper gave a nod to her compatriot as Valkyrie said she would be heading downstairs. It made sense to reunite with the others, get things settled and all. Wukong herself wanted to head down too, though the itching at her brain about the accursed safe was not going to cease either. She'd already rationalized juuuuust enough sense into doing it by now, enough to not just try to escape the feeling by de-transforming.

However...

"And oh, uh... great job out there, thank you."
Merry

The thanks and smile took the simian esper by visible surprise before she could react further or even look away. Truth be told, she'd tried to just keep her ally alive without much other thought invested into it. It was what felt right, though not all such attempts were guaranteed to work...she knew that firsthand. She'd seen it go wrong.

And yet...it was kinda nice to hear in this instance. But it reminded her of other things as well.

After her ally was gone, Lilliah immediately turned and examined the safe, chasing the prior train of thought out by giving into the monkey-like curiosity. She made a point of looking at the drilled bits and structure with care, looking for weak points or hinges or such. If drilling and other methods did not work, why not a blow from an esper's weapon? It was worth the attempt. Worst case scenario, she'd have to problem solve until something worked on it...or until nothing did. In that case she could at least curse at the monkey brain her esper form seemed to try to afflict her with.

With that in mind the esper stood up once more, taking a trained stance and swinging her staff in a precise blow to try to smash into the drilled part. Not too much force, not too sloppy or rushed either, but trying to gauge it just right to smash the drilled lock to pieces. Maybe.

Lilliah thrust her staff at the lock repeatedly. Slowly at first to build up her accuracy, then she began to push with more force once she felt she was hitting it’s sweet spot. The safe creaked and moaned with every blow. The top of the safe rocked back and forth as Lilliah attempted to drive her staff deeper inside the safe. With one final thrust, she was able to hit the safe’s sweet spot and cracked the bottom housing on the lock open. Now she had access to the locking mechanism. Though the girth of her staff would not be able to fit inside the small opening, and wouldn’t be able to satisfy the conditions required for opening the safe. Though it was just the right size for something smaller, like her finger.

The esper would allow the faint trace of a grin to appear on her face, though actively tried to repress any form of excess excitement. She had to be serious, as this was still a serious thing she was doing here. Well, if one considered busting open a safe out of supernatural curiosity and due to Viper’s words as being any kind of ‘serious’. Even so, she would squat down in front of the safe with her staff in her left hand and her right hand trying to reach through the smaller hole to get to the locking mechanism. She would try to get it open in this manner by very carefully fiddling with the locking mechanism from the inside with her finger, unless it for some reason refused to budge.

The safe had been pushed to its limit. It simply couldn’t take the monkey pounding and playing with it like that any longer. The safe let out a creek and a pop before it released it’s door, allowing Lilliah to access its depths.

Inside were several files and boxes, likely records of some sort. Among them was a tupperware container filled with money, a bottle of wine with a prime vintage, and the box Viper had mentioned. Just as she said, it would be green and wrapped in a gold and red bow. It was of fair size too. It was taller than the wine bottle was, and filled half the shelf it was sitting on.

Lilliah looked at the non-file contents with a certain curiosity, the container with money, the wine, and box Viper noted that is, before carefully moving to pick each thing up and examine each one personally before stowing them away on her person. Most importantly, the wrapped box Viper had mentioned was kept the best hidden out of them all. It looked like some Christmas gift, or birthday surprise, but why was it kept in this safe in the Commissioner’s Office of all places? Was it a bomb or bioweapon? Something to be handed to Viper by the Commissioner before all this went down as a gift for some reason? She had no idea, but for the time being she forced herself to tuck that particular item away on her person especially safely and securely. The wine and container with money, however, would be quite the catch to keep or give out in the meantime.

N-Not that s-stealing was good or anything! She silently cursed at the simian impulses in her esper form’s brain, but in the end simply let out a sigh. Merry and herself did deserve a treat after all of this nearly getting blown up business, right? Right. She could use her own money for food, and the wine would be the icing on the celebratory cake! Maybe the money from the tupperware container could go to some local charity or anonymously to some other charitable organization otherwise. That would at least be better than it being in the hands of criminals, eh?

Still, as the esper felt a small bit of satisfaction enter her mind she returned her gaze inevitably to the files. She was not going to take them, at least that was the intent right now, but…hmm. No, a little thumbing through them wouldn’t be bad, right? See if any familiar faces were in there, Viper or the criminal leader (she’d already tossed his name aside within her mind for the moment being) or otherwise. Nothing in-depth, just enough to scan them over. With this in mind, the esper would try to pull out and thumb through the files to see if anything interesting popped out at her.

The only thing that Lilliah would find in the files were some of the more sensitive information that the commissioner likely didn’t want to display to the rest of the station. Files on undercover agents, documents pertaining to payroll, things of that nature. The sort of stuff that wasn’t of much interest to an ape but was very interesting to criminals or nosy co-workers. Without knowing their real names, she couldn’t verify if Viper or the criminal leader were in here somewhere. Viper was an esper, so her appearance didn’t match anything in the safe.

After finding nothing of notable value in the files, at least to her eyes, the simian esper would ultimately put the files back just as neatly and gently close the door of the safe before heading downstairs to meet with the others.

Besides...she had a trip to make later.

"Hard Landings And Ass-inine Curiosities"

Apartment Hall (Hallway with Merry and Paralytic Gas)

Lilliah initially felt glad to be out of the strange, yellow, gaseous mist...fog...something or other. However, the flight was not something that had been very pleasant. It had been a leap of faith, and all the effort in the world to get to the destination despite the sheer weight on her back from carrying another esper and zooming through the air like a half-baked rocket. The enemy grenade fell uselessly underneath them, the sound of shots rang in the simian esper's ears, and she could see bodies drop out of the corner of her eye. All good things, but her gaze locked onto the nearest target entrance that didn't involve crashing into a wall: And open window. So straight into the Commissioner's Office she landed, barely landing somewhat on her feet, before falling over after Valkyrie suddenly leapt immediately at the first opportune moment.

Her compatriot's push to get off her back, whilst tactical, sent the poor monkey careening forward. Still reeling a little from the impacts and fog, the dizzy damsel's feet slipped and left her falling flat onto her butt on the floor as she slid forward. By the time Lilliah very lightly bumped into the drilled safe to stop, her hands and feet were positioned simply to stabilize herself. Yet as she finally stopped, the esper let out a quiet sigh of relief before looking back where they'd come in from.

Her body shot into survival mode as she saw Viper standing there, yellow orb that likely was the fog source in hand, looking over at them as clear as day. Yet before Lilliah could scramble to her feet or to find some nearby cover-

”There’s no reason to fight after the contract’s been voided.”

"There’s a green gift box inside wrapped with a gold and red bow. If you can get that for me, I’ll meet you at The Great Escape at noon tomorrow for a trade.”
Mean Snek Lady

-...it clicked in the female esper's mind.

A Freelancer. One who apparently hadn't been hired to take on two espers at once, which made the woman's words back in the apartment make a bit more sense in hindsight. Lucky for herself and Valkyrie? Maybe...ok not really. The woman had tried to kill them! Even if it was part of the job that wasn't going to be a pleasant experience to say the least.

So when Valkyrie simply opened fire without a word, Lilliah didn't bother to comment or protest or the like. For the moment they were alone in this room, had dealt a blow to the enemy, and had to get moving. Even still, for a moment a sense of curiosity began to climb into her mind. A monkey's curiosity, or perhaps it was more like the curiosity of an adventurer in some dungeon filled with riches. Whatever the case she tried to fight it at first, not wanting to get too distracted, but at the same time if the criminals had been after anything in the safe....there was legitimate reason to look, right? Right. They had to know what was going on if anything from that safe could prove dangerous. Yeah!

Thus in the end, she let out a sigh and turned to the drilled safe next to her to check it for anything, moving to see if anything was left within there and all. She kept her ears and the corners of her eyes peeled for anything suspicious, but otherwise she was involved in searching the safe (if it had been actually drilled open completely that was).

Were for some obtuse reason the safe not open, she would attempt to see if there was some way to potentially get it open. Nothing too exhaustive in that case, but quickly enough to be able to turn her attention more fully back to the rest of the room.

"A Scotsman, A Dwarf, And a Bastelian Walk Into A Bar-"

“I-I don’t know much! Just that we were followin’ orders! Soyala thinks that Lazhira is the one causing all this! I don’t know why, but we’re not gonna question a God if he says to do something, are we?!”

“A-all we really know is that if whatever is sealed in that old shrine breaks free, Dawn is going to be destroyed! We would have moved sooner, but...well, we didn’t want to make Akando our enemy - he could throw a wrench in our plans since well, he and Lazhira sort of grew up together somewhat...”

“I-I think I heard something about a key from the Old Man. Two, actually. One being hidden, and the other just...being in Dawn somewhere. I don’t know more than that.”

...Hell. This was not a very good situation as it was already, but to see the Hunters had been deployed on behalf of the Mad God in all of this twisted nonsense wasn't good at all. Soyala seemed to be an interesting figure from the sounds of it, likely a hunter if the catgirl was understanding the context correctly. At the same time, however, it was all suspicious and equally strange.

So the Old Man, one of the Illuminator's facets, told the Hunters about the keys. That was clear. Soyala was blaming Lazhira for it all, and was perhaps who had sent the Hunters to try for Lazhira then (potentially). That much was partly clear, the latter bit an attempted bit of reasoning out what had happened back there. Then Akando. A childhood friend of Lazhira, likely a Hunter, and not someone who would have gone along with whatever Soyala was spiking the Hunters minds with. But there was an inherent clash in these things and what she herself had been told...not to mention any tidbits the Illuminator was hiding or obscuring somehow still.

What she knew was that what lived underneath Dawn was something heinous, and the hunters knew this as well and were seeming to want to stop it. The Illuminator was too much of a dick, pardon her french, to want to see humanity destroyed or wiped out. Would ruin the dastard's fun. That much she felt could be trusted about the Mad God, as well as his desire to be entertained and his anger at herself and the other off-worlders, if nothing else. Soyala also was putting the Hunters at odds with each other from within with her idea alone, as if Akando wasn't going to be trying to get at Lazhira then it meant the Hunters weren't all going to be so united.

In other words, one thing stood out most. Soyala was thinking it was Lazhira who was causing all of this internal chaos, yet the Illuminator seemed to be just 'fond' (if the word applied) enough of the girl that he didn't seem to want her dead. Dividing the Hunters to slow their response time to things, as well as stirring the village up with stuff like an attempted kidnapping going on, it was the kind of situation a Goddess of Conflict seeking to escape would desire. A situation to prevent people from creating a united front, all to the ends of potentially wiping out humanity in her anger once she was released unless Delphiti or someone was able to get things to work out. The Bastelian had no idea what other factors were coming into this, much less had no chance to talk to so many people, but she had to run with what she knew.

As the goddess had told her...sometimes force was needed. And the root of things needed to be discovered and isolated sooner than later if the village and humanity were to survive.

"Considering were are all mortals here, following what a god says makes enough reasonable sense.

However, while you heard from the Old Man I have spoken to the Faceless One. He also told me of what he seeks, that being to avoid this village being destroyed due to the horror that lies sealed underneath this very village. But he never said any bit of Lazhira being a problem, in contrast to what Soyala has told you. In fact, I got these burns of my own playing a game of his back at that old temple, all just to learn that tidbit. Nearly drowned even.

In fact, Lazhira and others have spoken to the Hag, who seems to be contradicting what the Faceless One and Old Man have said entirely.

Would your god actively try to hamper his own plans and contradict himself 'that' badly? Hmm?

So believe me or not, I don't frankly care at this venture. Got what I brought you here for. I will be untying you, and leaving you to get some healing and care here if possible."

Would any of it work? No, likely not. But it sounded cool. This was a human Hunter who'd tried to kidnap Leannah's current favorite person from the New World, and she was a foreign Bastelian who had martial arts, with both of them worshipping different gods and being at odds from that alone. Much less everything else prior to this moment that had gone on.

After untying the Hunter, Leannah popped her head out of the test to speak to the Oni before-

"Oi Eirhild-- aye need yer help fer sumthin' lass!"
Some Loud Scotsman

Son of a pharaoh's mother's- it was him! And the sounds of someone else. And another someone else? And now a cart rolling along?!

She knew who that voice was from, and it was enough to get her to pop out of the tent in a hurry. The Bastelian's ears twitched in the direction of Donovan's voice, and she turned her head to the Oni. Without more than the needed formalities of speech, the catgirl would ask the Oni just outside the tent to bring a message to Lazhira and the others held up in Mie's tent. Not that she knew if they were all there, at least beyond Lazhira, but if Narkissa had followed at all then it would be beneficial to let her and the others know.

After sending the Oni with her message, that being that she was having to go grab something beyond the village 'back where we all began' (that bit might get Narkissa's notice, she hoped) and she'd be back by sometime tomorrow most likely. Maybe. Hopefully. Also added was a personal request to Lazhira and the others to 'be safe', and a promise of something cool being brought back if she found anything where she was heading. Lazhira would like that...right? She hoped.

Leannah would then bolt away, verbal message sent and attempting to 'catch up'. She would find herself too late to catch Donovan and the cart anywhere nearby, but with the path the older man had taken it wouldn't be too hard for her to follow the wagon tracks and such either. It would ultimately lead her back down a somewhat familiar path from only a few days ago in the end, tracked all the way back to a place she didn't think she'd be coming back to anytime soon...The Obelisk. The gateway that sealed off the path of the old lab Delphiti had made, which her creations had partly tried to seal her within, and which the Sage and Illuminator had sealed away by their pact.

Yup. Albeit the new context she had for the place wasn't exactly encouraging. But why here?

No matter.

Leannah tried to wave to Donovan and the strange, shorter person that was with him as she approached in the open. Of course she kept the calling out to him bit until she got as close as she felt she could...at least to try to minimize how much volume she needed. She didn't want a massive repeat of earlier...a-at least on purpose.

But who wouldn't get pissed when one's lovely and intelligent scholar of a host was nearly kidnapped in the middle of all the crazy things going on?!

"Donovan! Hey!"

The Bastelian would ultimately arrive at where the man was, hopefully, just as Donovan was done performing his meditation. Was another reason she tried to minimize the volume and get as close as she could to call out to the man. Albeit she would keep a close eye on the man's other companion in case she was intercepted. She was not initially sure if it was a dwarf, this world's version of a gnome, or some kind of strange pygmy to be frank. Likely a dwarf, given her at least basic knowledge of Earthen fantasy stereotype and first impression she got of the individual's equipment.

Or, well, she could be equally wrong. At this point she was not afraid to learn, though if it came with burning the other half of her body in the process she'd have to perhaps decline...

"To Infinity...and BEYOND!"

Apartment Hall (Hallway with Merry and Paralytic Gas)

It hurt. It hurt to tackle her ally like a crazed buffoon, as in literally and physically at least, but otherwise Wukong had no regrets. The sniper bullet whizzed overhead before an actual RPG flew in and was blown away before it blew the hell out of the ceiling above. It was enough to nearly forget the pain as Lilliah forced herself to get up on one knee below the windowstill. She turned to face the windowstill, but didn't dare poke her head up to try to fully stand...well, at least yet. There was another problem that came swooping in.

A sickly yellow mist permeated the area, and as soon as she felt the beginnings of the strange effects on her body and mind the panic tried to set in. No. She couldn't just pop her head up for the guns, but neither could she fiddle about here. Mere seconds would be all she and her ally had, and she had to-

'Zzap!'

Her ally's magic surged into her, perking her mind and body back up enough that it forced her back into focus as time seemed to slow for her in that brief flicker of a moment. Flight. She began to prepare the needed melody before she even heard the plan, perhaps not hearing much of anything Merry said in the first place, but when Valkyrie got onto her back to piggyback she didn't give her ally any more time to wait. No hesitation. No wait. No pause. Not a second longer. She immediately cast her melody the moment Merry was on her back, intending to send them barreling out of the window in rapid flight and aimed to careen over onto the precinct roof in a very literal crash course.

Would the idea work out? She hoped so. At least enough to get them out of the building and away from the damned mist!

If it didn't work out? Beuford, for all his love of firing rockets, would at least get to see a monkey and a girl shoot into the air like one in flight...doing so with all the grace of a five-day-old dead fish dropped from a plane and hurtling through the air toward their intended destination in some manner. Glorious. Simply glorious.

Leannah

"Good Cat, Bad Cat"

Leannah allowed herself to follow along as Mie had a guard escort them back to a rather nice empty tent. A good read of the situation overall, though Leannah hadn't much thought about talking out loud as she had. No wonder the fox had been angry...might be Lazhira and anyone else in there too. Blargh. Howewver, she didn't have the luxury of time either. No time to fully rest, as already The Illuminator was making moves it seemed. Whether it was one part of the Frankenstein'd deity's psyche or another, as that was something else to suspect about the conflicting information he gave, or something else altogether was not the main focus at the moment.

Theorizing would continue, but right now she needed information. This guy was part of whoever was trying to get Lazhira back there, and she wanted to get answers and whatever else she could get. Since the man was already burnt and his leg was stomped on, she had ample reason to believe he wouldn't be moving. A little rope being used to secure him generally to the tent pole, however, was still something she'd do. Nothing tight or restrictive, but just enough that if someone tried to come grab him it wouldn't be easy.

Not that he would be anything but left behind at this point, but it helped to be precautionary.

"Alright! You seem to be in a hell of a state, I'm supposing the burns are from your attempted quarry back there?"

Leannah spoke to the man as she sat with her legs crossed a couple feet from him.

"You see, I never have been around other Bastelians. But we seem to have quite the reputation for savagery. As for me though? I only get savage when you mess with those I care some about.

So your leg back there? That was for trying to kidnap Lazhira."

The catgirl stared the pained hunter in the eyes, learning forward a little as she spoke. She did her best to put on the show of being utterly casual in the face of what she'd done to him so far, trying to play a bit more into that 'Bastelian savagery' slightly to try to put some fear into him. She even reached out a hand, turning the man's face to get a better look at his burns before roughly dropping her grip and letting his head fall back down.

"I'm sure it isn't the only pain you feel right now, but I believe we can be 'civil' about this. You and I. I might even be able to get you patched up. You see, I was raised by humans, so I am not a total savage....

...But it simply depends on what information you are able to give me, and if you can provide enough of it quickly enough to satiate my interests.

And indeed, I need something. I need to know everything you have heard and know about The Illuminator's plans for this village and Lazhira, and about your little cult of followers who adhere to him."

Using her other hand, Leannah gently drew her claws along the other side of the man's face, not hard enough to draw any blood or make scratched but enough to leave a light tingle along the man's skin that belied what those claws could do. She also had to pretend she knew some things, but assuming two of these guys were involved in a kidnapping it would not be hard to assume there were a number more who were adherents to the mad god's will around here.

"So will you tell me all you know? Or will we have to move on to the other leg first? Your choice~"

...Part of doing this made her feel phyiscally sick, but at the same time she had to swallow the tough pill in order to get what she needed. The villagers? She'd hoped to get to know them more in time, maybe, but the first thing in priority was the safety of those here and Lazhira. The goddess was right, sometimes force was needed. Even if she had to use the Bastelian stereotype as fodder for her interrogation right now, she'd do it. Things were developing to the extent she needed to be ready, and to be ready required information and action both. Not just one or the other.

That much she'd, most ironically, also learned back within the Illuminator's divine realm. Those trials tested her mind, but also her capability to navigate them through action.

"Tripitaka All Over Again...But Moere Bloodthirsty!"

Apartment Hall (Hallway with Viper and Merry)

”The opposition has hired some espers. Be on your guard, agents!”

A good warning, but one that perhaps came all too late for Lilliah (and Valkyrie by extension).

It was no small surprise when the staff-swinging esper suddenly had her target slammed back into her at force. A staggering blow that sent her reeling before the attempted assassin drew a cut along her right thigh and lacerated it. It was such a quick flurry of events it brought Lilliah to the point she'd have flopped onto the floor in the heat of it all, save for her taking a knee in reaction and using her staff to hold herself up somewhat as well.

The bang of her ally's weapons and thump from the roundhouse kick drew her eyes back to the battle immediately in turn, training and instincts kicking, though looking up just in time to see Viper blink to the other end of the hall. She could see the esper's heavy breathing, and lack of torso attire after that initial blows the monkey-like esper had performed, and it for a brief moment brought a small, satisfied smirk to her face. If the enemy was forced to retreat, at least, then it was worth it well enough.

That's what she got for-!

'Oh...'

That was the momentwhen the movement caught the female esper's attention, and time for that brief window seemed to slow to an utter crawl to her perception. Movement from across the street. One armored grenadier. One anti-mat rifle. One rocket launcher. All in the windows of the police station. All aimed in their direction.

'...Oh hell!!!'

Wukong used her staff and position to push herself forward into a running sprint, the pain instantly surging through her like molten iron through her lacerated thigh. She stumbled for a moment, but doing her best she forced herself to move forward as fast as her body could move. The pain to some extent was almost unbearable, but she couldn't waste time. She threw herself onto Merry with as much force as possible to try to knock them both down to the floor, casting a melody to affect her ally at the same time as she made any initial bodily contact with her. A touch-based spell. If it worked as intended, they'd be bowling down onto the floor due to Lilliah's tackle along with the melody now helping to protect her ally (hopefully) by the time they hit the ground.

Maybe they'd be able to get out of this in one piece? Maybe was perhaps the best hope for it all. That was the goal of her rushed plan anywho, working on her feet to try to keep an ally intact and maybe get them both in a semi-safe position. Not that taking an RPG to the face would be good though...
