The Story So Far

UPTIME 1 -「CANNED HEAT」
Our heroes' adventure starts when their lives end; an interested party offers them a deal; they save their killer's target and spare his life
Also, this feels like a good time to check in. How's everyone feel about things so far? Anything I can be doing differently? Anything you particularly liked/want to see more of? Or anything that's not working for you?
@rush99999 Yep, that's correct. He does seem to have a habit of escaping the consequences of his actions, huh =P
Alright, took me a bit longer than I intended to get that up lol. This definitely feels to me like the end of uptime, but feel free to let me know if any of you disagree and I can edit my post.

That does mean that we need to start looking at taking care of Downtime stuff, but if y'all want to do some stuff in character then that doesn't have to happen immediately. As a reminder, Downtime consists of:

- Shuffling the Fate Deck

- Debrief: Each player will answer--from their character's POV--whether they thought the past uptime was overall a positive or negative experience. You should consider whether your character would be happy with the events that transpired, whether they accomplished something important, and whether their accomplishments were worth it to them considering what they went through. Only a positive or a negative answer is allowed--no abstentions! After the vote, we'll play out a scene where your characters will have a chance to discuss the past uptime, keeping their answers in mind.

- Level up: We don't have enough experience for the group to level up this time, but if we did, this is when it would happen.

- Tie scenes: For each of your existing ties, you can choose to do a Tie Scene where your character interacts with the character in their tie. At the end of the scene, increase the tie's affinity and maturity.

- Downtime Moves: Any player may choose to do a Downtime Move from the rulebook; each move must include at least two PCs, but there's no maximum. Each Downtime move must include at least one player who has yet to be in a Downtime move.

Downtime is finished once the debrief is complete, and there are no players remaining who can or who want to do a Tie Scene or Downtime move.

I know that's a lot, so if you have any questions please let me know and we can hash things out!
Simonsen blinks witlessly, first at Luka, then at Ashley, then at the exit that has suddenly appeared in place of the broken window. You can almost hear the grinding hard drive sound coming from his brain as he tries to process the conflicting information you're giving him, and evaluates his options in light of that.

(If there's one thing that's become clear about Simonsen, beyond what he's told you, it's that he's not the sharpest pencil in the box. He'd much rather be blowing things up than evaluating a new threat, especially one that has proven to be outside his previous experience; luckily, you've managed to convince him that he can't explode his way out of this situation.)

Finaly, he seems to reach a decision. Ray moves slowly towards the exit, keeping his eyes on the four of you, and backs out towards the street. As he does, the strange coloring drains out of the environment, leaving the diner looking as it did before (though with the addition of a rather garish new entrance). He does not say anything in response to Ashley's offer; however, he points two bandaid-covered fingers at his eyes, then tracks the gesture over the four of you as he backs down the street.

Despite his silence, the message is clear--"We'll be watching."

The only people remaining in Mario's are you and the goat-bat creature, whose soft chirps are muffled by the metal third pan still sitting on his head.

UPTIME 1 -「CANNED HEAT」- COMPLETE

WO "Mikey" Rangel

"might be in poor taste to call it the perv dungeon in a room of people who just lost their CO to said location, but I definitely would prefer that view over the ocean"

Goosebumps went straight up Mikey's back and her blood ran cold. First, from simple surprise. She hadn't registered the presence of the... well, the quite striking woman standing behind her. Then, from embarrassment. She certainly hadn't expected to be overheard, and a part of her now realized that her choice of words probably was in poor taste. Way to stick your fuckin' foot in it, Mikey.

She shook her head hard a couple times, physically forcing the wide-eyed reaction off before more than a couple of seconds had passed, and gave the woman a smile. This one was... another volunteer. Mikey thought she remembered her dossier saying she was from Russia, but that might have just been her own assumption based on the accent. Her name was... Tonka, right? Like the toys.

"Uh, yeah, sorry." she whispered back, doing her best contrite face. "Didn't mean to make light of the whole thing. Just, uh... yeah, sorry."

At least Archer didn't seem put off by her faux pas, judging by his laugh. That was a comfort; of all the other people in the room, he seemed the most normal, and Mikey thought she could use a bit of normalcy at the moment.

"Honestly, I’m not sure where I fit into all of this. I suppose I’ll just let them decide where I’m best suited. I can’t exactly pinpoint where my... talents would be most useful,"

There was something in those words, in the other soldier's demeanor, that twinged Mikey's spidey senses. Mikey felt nervous as hell, herself; maybe that's all there was to it with the big Englishman, too, but she had to admit she didn't know him well enough to say for sure. Instead, she filed the judgment away; if she were really curious, she could always ask him about it when they weren't, say, in the middle of a briefing, surrounded by other people.

"What about you?"

Mikey shrugged. "You know, it really hadn't occurred to me that we'd actually have a choice. In my experience the military isn't big on--" She was suddenly aware of another person standing next to her, looking at her with bright blue eyes and an inquisitive expression. Mikey thought that this white-haired woman might also have been older than her, but there was something disarmingly childlike about her question and her broken English.

”Uh, Myke? What is a Perv and Norm?”

Mikey opened her mouth. Closed it. Almost said, "I'll tell you when you're older," then thought better of it. Looked to Archer and Tonka, her face a silent appeal for help.

Several feet away, closer to the front of the room, she heard Charles speak up.

“I’ve had more than enough time in, so called, perv dungeons.”

Oh, come on! Frenchie too?!

Rory Arcadia

Sully's Rest

{{ informational: the individual at 10 o'clock has spent significantly more time observing you than she has other individuals in the area. }}

Rory rolled his eyes and shoveled a hearty bite of stew into his mouth. It was the first meal he'd had in a minute that was more substantial than nuts, berries, and bits of campfire-roasted meat; as much as he wanted to just shove his face into the plate and lick it clean, he forced himself to take his time and eat properly. This place--Sully's Rest, they called it--was the largest settlement he had encountered since he'd set out for Ardhelm, and if he played his cards right, it could present him with opportunities he'd be foolish not to take advantage of. Opportunities that might not be offered if everyone saw him going at his meal like the starved dog he was. It was a small advantage, but life had taught him that a small advantage was nothing to turn your nose up at.

Plus, it would be a shame to cross the mutant infested wastes only to die here, choking on a bit of stew-meat, because he forgot to chew.

Looking up, he spotted Stella at the fryer, just where the AI had indicated. Of course she's watching me. I'm a stranger, and armed besides.

{{ informational, addendum: at least five other individuals in the immediate vicinity possess visible firearms. out of those, the amount of time that individual has spent observing you is a statistical outlier. }}

Rory didn't have a comeback for that. While he chewed on that thought he realized he ought to say something instead of just stare at the diner's proprietor, so he waved at Stella and pointed at his plate. "Hey, Stella! I dunno what you put in it, but the food's delicious!" He gave her a smile and a thumbs up before turning back to his meal.

The heat of the day was stifling, and under the shade of the diner's awning Rory had opted to remove his coat. Normally the additional layer was a small price to pay for keeping the frying sun from burning him to a crisp; here, he let the sweat do its best to keep him cool. The main problem with that at the moment was that his jacket's wide collar was good not only for keeping his neck unburnt, but for hiding where he was looking. He did his best, though--bending down to the plate in an apparently clumsy effort to transfer a piece of meat to his mouth via the bits of flatbread he had been given, hiding his roving gaze with one arm.

Okay, am I the only one she's watching like that?

{{ processing query... response: there is another individual whom she has been observing with the same frequency, at your three o'clock. }}

Rory swallowed the mouthful of bread and stew, then sat straight upright and stretched in his seat, hands reaching to the sky. He rolled his head around, working out the pains in his neck and shoulders, and--more importantly--catching a glimpse of the man the AI had pointed out to him.

Oh, well, yeah. I can see why she's keeping an eye on him. He was certainly something to look at. Some kind of mutant. Not the feral kind, clearly, but definitely not baseline human. Tough looking customer. Rory took the opportunity to glance at the other patrons, and he didn't need any artificial intelligence to tell him that Stella wasn't the only one with her eye on the man. Guess I'm not the only one that thinks so.

The young man made a snap decision; as he lowered his hands and finished his stretch, he turned and took a long look at the whole settlement, as if he were just now deciding to take it all in. As his gaze moved over the greenish mutant--as naturally as he could, as if he had just spotted him while looking around--Rory paused for a second, met the man's eyes, then gave him a smile and a small salute before finishing his circuit and turning back to his meal.

{{ analysis, social: associating yourself with that individual might cause issues for your ability to integrate yourself into this social group. }}

Stick to counting how many times the cook looks at me. I know what I'm doing.
@Digmata I'm fine if you /want/ to, but I don't think you /need/ to; we can just say that Luka's attempt to silence you just didn't get off the ground. I'll put up the next post at some point today unless someone lets me know they want to get one in first.
@rush99999 Dazzle? Well, your GLAM is 3, so you get:

Justice - Dissonant - The situation becomes more fair
Judgment - Negative - Your past mistakes catch up to you
The Hierophant - Neutral - You discover something

...well, I'd say "what are the odds", but I guess at this point they were roughly 1 in 3 =X
