Current I'm sorry, you've reached his personal secretary, Department of Shrubbery, Floor 64, Desk 1024. How can we help you today?

Or buy a van or a used rental truck. Something nobody would look twice at. You can put in a rack for the rope, duct tape, plastic sheeting, shovels....

Never trust a car salesman - especially a used car salesman. Have a buddy park across the street and see how many stuffed body bags you can shove in there. Gotta have room for plastic sheeting, etc.

Neil Gaiman wrote in his Good Omens bio that he likes it when fans send him $50. (He read Terry Pratchett's bio and figured it wouldn't hurt.)

"Hack the planet!" is the movie Hackers playing with a teenaged Laura Croft and Sherlock Holmes battling the skateboarding Fisher Stevens?

Bio

I am a seven-foot tall minecraft-playing hindu guru drag-queen alien.

Possessor of an Ancient Device™ Model 17. No, I don't know what it does. No, you can't play with it.

Pronouns: It. As in: "What is it? What does it want? Why is it here? Oh my god, it's got my... <insert random body part or object here>"

Likes: World Domination, Writing, Rpg, scifi/fantasy, anime, sketchup 3d models, and anime music videos.

Companions: a host of characters from other games, my personal muse Penny (as in Bad), and the Badger gang - Toothpick, Buttons, Shark, and Mongo. They grew up in the balcony of an old theatre that played a lot of gangster movies. Normally benign, but may invade the OOC forums.

Granny Siri & Ilyana the Half-Human

They'd gotten the center pole up and hoisted up the center ring and the canvas - trust a sailor to understand rigging, Granny sighs. But there was something bothering her about the half-elf - he wasn't sweating.

"Boy," she called out to the youngster, "Are you feeling well?"
"Yes," Ilyana lied, but the priestess waved her over and pressed her hand against her forehead.

"Your hand, it's like ice...!" Ilyana sighs, leaning into it. "Why is your hand so cold?"
"And you have a fever," Siri nods, taking away her hand and stepping inside her wagon. Moments later, she reappears with a small folded square of paper and a waterskin. "Swallow the power inside, and wash it down with water."
"What do I owe..."
"Nothing," Siri says. "Just sit there for a bit and try to make yourself comfortable."
I was thinking that the Duke's daughter has learned a bit of the Laws of Sympathy Magic - like calling to like. Spinning straw (or blonde hair - I know what was really going on Rapunzel) into gold, or shaping bits of wax with hair and toenail clippings to make a voodoo doll. Just your plain, ordinary, journeyman level magic. Mind the pinch.
Well, generated a basic background. A duke's daughter. I can also do a knight to accompany her. I've a feeling he's going to be a jerk.

I have no problems with you creating a blind character. So, unless anyone else has any major issues with it, I think you'll be fine to get started.

I sometimes play mute characters, but invariably a lone telepath appears. So a few of my characters have been uniquely mind-shielded that other telepaths can't mind scan without headaches and so far only one mind exploding.

I'll wait for others to weigh in on that, but I'm okay with everyone starting as first years! Just means everyone will have to play a 16 year old character, unless they want to play someone who has been held back a year for whatever reason.

I thought First Years were 15? Sorry.

In England, you graduate from high school at 16, taking exams at the end of the school year for Advanced Levels (GCE A-Levels), Ordinary Levels (GCE O-Levels), and General Certificates of Secondary Education (GSE).

16 is also when you can get a job, enlist in the military (although I think the Brits are unique in that), and legally drink.

Not sure how other European nations do schooling. Is this a private high school or a private college? Or a private academy with both a high school and college program?

@Expendable

I'll post the Headmaster and some of the example pairings soon. The example pairings were never super fleshed out, but I can give rough ideas of their dynamic.

Thank you.

@Crowvette@Expendable

Hmm... That wasn't necessarily in the original plans, since a Knight/Noble pairing is meant to be a strong bond, but I suppose if we think about it their first Knight might not always be the best fit. I certainly don't mind having a first week were there are little to no pairings and the characters are getting introduced to one another however I do find that moments like that, we tend to get lost in the weeds, so to speak. We'll spend so much time on the intro and pairings that we'll never get to the good story bits. That's my only caveat to that.

Otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with whatever we'd prefer to do with the pairings. I certainly do like that top knight and top nobles get paired, but I also think that we might run into trouble with that potentially? Feel free to shake me out of my thoughts if I'm being weird or too critical but if Rank 1 Knight and Noble are incredibly good together, how does one fall rank before the other? How would Rank 1 Knight lose their position with Rank 1 Noble or vice versa?

This is a school, so perhaps how they perform in their examinations determines their positioning? I imagine that knights would have more practical examinations.

On the other hand, perhaps it's just social standing?
Perhaps it's a ranking thing? Top student gets the top knight, second student gets the second knight, etc.
I wouldn't mind seeing the pairings and an character example, want to make sure I'm filling out this sheet right

The idea of an alternate universe where the monarchies held power with magic and the age of revolutions has culminated in peak Slice Of Life magic duel academies is highly amusing.

There's an alternate world book by Randall Garret about a noble named Lord Darcy, he and his forensic sorcerer investigates events involving nobles. There's tech, but a lot of it is very steampunk - wooden sailing ships, carriages, steam locomotives (of course, it was very much a Murder on the Orient Express style), and preserver boxes. While duels are fought, usually it's with swords, not magic.
Are our characters supposed to be from actual European countries, or made up countries?

If you're noble, do you get an NPC servant or two? Someone to help them dress, polish the shoes, keeps their room clean? A bodyguard, perhaps?

Do they get single rooms or have to share?
This could be fun, yes.

I spent some time in England, almost everything was closed on a Sunday. If that's the one day students are allowed in town, some of these shops must have Sunday hours. MartMart, of course, doesn't care what day of the week is, nor will the local newsagents.

Favorite Anime characters are Ed from Cowboy Bebop and Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries.
