As Alpha Squad's acquired transport swiftly vanished into the distance, Fumika herself set about finding a place to hide. She was at the center of Point A - a large enclosure of metal shipping crates directly underneath the large crane overhead, with several prominent bits of scaffolding and large archways between them all around. In this sort of environment... An opponent probably couldn't be bothered to check every crate, right? She glanced around until something caught her eye - one crate had a small hole rusted into the back. She quickly ran over to this one, opened the latch, then slipped inside, leaving the latch ever-so-slightly ajar. Peering out through the hole, she then set to work on her first main plan.
...Of course, it would have seemed utterly unbelievable if she'd projected copies of her entire team guarding the point. Anyone who saw it would immediately understand how unreasonable such a strategy would be, and realized that it must have been some kind of trick. But, if she simply created enough people to give her the appearance of a numerical advantage... Her eyes shifted to bright green, and a matching arrow formed in her hair as the bar around her head lit up, glowing faintly in the dark. Peering with a single eye out through the tiny hole, she set about her work.
Copies of Sen, Lysander, Mina, and Jin all appeared standing at intervals around the capture point, all just barely within 15 meters of her hideout. Then, right in front of the crate she herself was hiding in, another one of herself appeared, standing in front of the hole in order to block her eye from the view of anyone who might arrive to attack. Her preparations were complete. This way, she could hold a point without slowing her team down, and even her power of simple mimicry could be useful. Even though she couldn't stand on the same level as everyone else, she could at least help them. She could at least not get in their way. Now, all there was to do was wait, and if everything went as planned-
"YOSHIDA KENICHI, COMIN' THROUGH!"
The sudden shout split the air, and Fumika jumped, almost banging her head against the top of the crate. Everything was not going as planned. How had an enemy arrived so quickly? There was no way anyone was that fast, unless it was-
Her heart sank as the familiar figure of the short, blue-haired boy from before landed right in the middle of her circle of images, grinning from ear to ear. Out of everyone on the opposing team, he was the one she was most certain she didn't want to fight. She'd been sure that he'd be holding C, the point with the most open space, and had even sent Sen over there as his natural counter! So then why? Why had her prediction turned out to be so completely wrong? She frantically began tugging at her hair, trying to come up with some kind of a way out.
She couldn't run. Even if she did, he'd just catch her and eliminate her with his superior speed and strength. He didn't seem to care that he was outnumbered, either. Not that it mattered, it'd be no different from how it always was!
A blur of black circled all around her. Trees shook in the sudden wind as the figure, too fast for her eyes to follow, slammed into one of her copies, shattering it into dust before spinning to kick another one into the wall. Fumika took a step back, but by then, it was already too late. Another three strikes, faster than she could even see, destroyed all her remaining doppelgangers, and before she could process what was happening, she'd already been knocked to the ground. She groaned, rubbing her eyes as her vision cleared to see Haruka standing over her with a stern expression on her face.
"Come on, Fumi, are you even trying?" She asked, the disappointment in her voice hurting even more than the blow she'd just received, or the knowledge of her defeat.
She'd tried again. This time, she created obstacles, tried to bar the way. All she could do was slow Haruka down before she eventually broke through. "You did a bit better that time!" She said consolingly. "Good job!"
Who had done a good job? Nothing had changed but the time it took to beat her. She hadn't even landed a single hit. Haruka was simply too strong. There was no way... absolutely no way that a fake like her could keep up with the real thing, or stand on the same level. No matter how hard she tried, she just had to accept that fact.
Nothing would change. Nothing would change. Nothing would...
...Change. It had to change. This time... this time, she couldn't hold her allies back. Even if she couldn't win, this fight really was different. She didn't have to beat him, after all - she just had to stall for time! If she could just buy the others time to take the remaining two points, then her efforts wouldn't be in vain! In that case... A distraction! She needed a distraction! He hadn't seemed to notice that her "teammates" were actually fakes. Maybe, if she could just fool him into surrendering! Right, this was no time to panic! She still had the upper hand!
She tried her best to have her copy mime the movement of her own lips as she spoke, but couldn't see clearly enough to tell whether or not the result was accurate. She placed her mouth against the hole in the crate, wanting to mask the echo from within the hollow box as much as possible, so that it would sound like the voice was really coming from her image outside. Maybe... Maybe he wouldn't notice!
"You're surrounded. Don't move. Please, surrender, and we won't have to hurt you." She kept her message short and simple. Anything longer, and he'd probably have noticed the discrepancy between her copy's location and the source of the voice that was talking. She just hoped he didn't get any closer to any of the copies she'd made... if he did, he might realize that although they appeared to be breathing, they weren't actually making a sound!
