Aaliyah

Aaliyah listened to the shopkeeper as he answered her question and informed her and the group that they weren't in Tir Na Og but in Tradegate, the place closest to the location in question. When the shopkeeper, Melvin, asked if they were heading that way, she nodded yes in response. She does shake his hand in greeting when he moves to do so, and she answers his greeting, "It's nice to meet you, Melvin. My name is Aaliyah," After Bruno ruffles his feathers and hoots, she introduces him, "And this is Bruno,"

She looked at Mariel as she asked Melvin for a recent map of the area, and nodded in agreement. She raised an eyebrow when the goblin who followed them here declared that she could navigate the area. Beigeiros took it upon himself to ask the goblin where she got the compass in hand. Upon hearing her answer, Aaliyah resisted the urge to facepalm. So she stole the compass?!

While she was glad to hear that Melvin had maps to help them navigate this area, something she and her friends need, she was unhappy to see that the goblin was unwilling to return the compass to its rightful owner, and even offered to take more things off of his Hans. Both she and Bruno narrowed their eyes at the goblin. A mental conversation took place between the two of them.

Aaliyah listens to Melvin as he informs the group, and after hearing the price for the map, Aaliyah immediately moves to fish out a gold piece from her coin purse, while Bruno prepares himself by shifting his talons from his perch on Aaliyah's shoulder, and lowering itself like a cat. He stares intently at the compass, like it is a mouse to hunt down. Aaliyah can see that Melvin's suggestion wasn't going to work on Garnet, which meant that the plan was a go.

While Garnet gives her response to Melvin, Bruno moves to carry out the plan! The form of the owl is ideal for this task: The feathers in the wings allow the owl to move silently and stealthily as it strikes! It flies past Garnet, scoops up the compass in its talons and flies over to Melvin to drop the compass in his hands.

After that, Bruno flies back to Aaliyah's shoulder and gives a smug look to Garnet.

Aaliyah speaks up to Melvin, straightening herself and putting on a persona of leadership as she heard from numerous stories, "I apologize, Melvin. This goblin is a stranger who followed me and my friends here. We do not condone theft,"

She then moves to him, and gives him a gold piece, "Mariel and Beigeiros are helping me with my mission, so the obligation of payment falls to me. I'm also willing to provide information regarding that part of the Outlands as well,"

I think that can be worked around as well. In mythology, deities gain new domains all the time. For example, Apollo being a sun god and Artemis being a moon goddess are actually fairly recent additions. Leaves it open for the cleric to perhaps learn more and interpret their deity in different ways.

That's a really good point! It certainly is possible for deities, as characters in a story, to have more aspects to themselves than what mortals might know. So a cleric learning about those new aspects and informing the rest of their peers about what they learned can lead to some interesting events.

<Snipped quote by Guardian Angel Haruki>After all, as shown in the Planescape setting, belief can be surprisingly powerful.

Er...I think that depends on the situation. In some situations, belief is not enough and facts have to be faced. The example in the quote below is actually a good example of this too!

Say there is a cult worshipping the fiend taking on a heavenly disguise. The cult believes this figure is going to save them somehow, but instead the fiend uses/harvests them for its own purposes. I don't think any form of belief on the Cultist's part is going to convince the fiend to become Good all of a sudden.

<Snipped quote by Guardian Angel Haruki>(tbf I do agree with the warlock thing. It is the most difficult to work around, though not impossible. For example, a fiend taking on a more heavenly disguise when offering their pact for the first time... still frustrating though, and I do wish they hadn't ruled it like that xP)

Thank you!!! I'm glad I'm not alone in that frustration. XD
@XxFellsingxX Cleric is interesting to think about in this context as well.

The new subclass third rule would make sense if the deity a cleric worships has multiple domains. But if it has only one? Then it's like the Warlock Patron issue again.

Though...I can see that being resolved if the Cleric is able to switch the deity they worshipped before Level 3. For example, The Cleric realized that the initial deity they were worshipping was not something they believed to be and went against their beliefs. So they realized the 'Church' they were a part of was actually a cult. At this revelation they decided to worship a different deity that was vilified or dismissed in the cult, and gains the full domain powers as a result of seeing the truth.

Oops, sorry, this got buried under all the other notifs! Yeah, I'm cool with it, I do like me some conflict :D Garnet might try to do something about it tho.

Awesome!

@XxFellsingxX I'll go ahead and get a post up accordingly.
Cascade

Cascade felt a wide variety of emotions as this demon anglerfish answered her words. Anger, confusion, guilt, and doubt all threatened to consume her like an insidious, all consuming whirlpool. She gritted her teeth, clenched her jaw, and balled up her fists tightly as she weathered through all of the intrusive thoughts the demon introduced to her mind.

What she especially didn't like, was that this demon was trying to do the same thing to Jormund! She focused on that and kept on glaring at her.

But thankfully, Aura and Flicker came through! Like a sun and summer breeze, they cut through the tempest of Cascade's emotions. She looks to Aura as she stepped forward and spoke, causing Cascade's glare to disappear.

Then there was Flicker's hand, warm to the touch, on her shoulder. She gave a smile to Flicker, to her friends, and gave them all a nod in encouraged agreement, and one of trust. She gives a hard stare at the demon and she finishes, "Right! We stared at this anglerfish's light for way too long already. Let's go,"

She then looks to Rala, and she speaks, "Auntie Rala, let's get going,"

At that she turns her back to the demon and starts walking, leading the way to Zephyr.
Sorry for the silence on my part, everyone. Things really picked up IRL for the holidays. It'll no doubt become busy for me again, but at least this weekend, I can post. I apologize for the wait.

Now, to get to responses and IC posts...!

YOU GUYS! HOLY SHIT! THAT OLD D&D CARTOON IS CANON TO 5E NOW! VENGER'S ON THE COVER OF THE NEW DMG!

Woah, Really?! Cool! I still have my hackles up when it comes to the 2024 D&D rules though. I've heard about what they did to the subclasses, and what they did to the warlock is especially heinous. Not knowing what type of patron you made a deal with is and your abilities as a result are until 3rd Level?! What?!

I wonder who among this party is going to pull that sort of stunt... XD

Awww! Cute!
<Snipped quote by Guardian Angel Haruki>

If Vertigo doesn't mind it, sure. Roll a Sleight of Hand check, with the DC being Garnet's passive perception which is a 15.

Understood.
The Owl's Sleight of Hand is a 17.
<Snipped quote by Guardian Angel Haruki>
Owl stew for dinner you say?!

One goblinoid-I mean, Gnome, has already thought of that...
Good luck trying to eat a familiar. ^_^
@Vertigo I hate to cause possible beef, but...

@XxFellsingxX Could Aaliyah have her Owl Familiar try to swoop to grab the compass from Garnet and give it back to the shopkeeper? Thanks to the Flyby feature, the owl would not be able to provoke opportunity attacks.
@Guardian Angel Haruki

You still with us?

Yes, I'm still with you guys.
Sorry, it's been hectic on my end, and things are going to be harder for me to post.
I'll be with family until after Thanksgiving. Posting will still be slow, but if I can post, I will. Sorry again.
