Ed had dodged a damn bus. Exodus was there and that guy was the worst. Chrysi had been stalling. Ed wished he could have kept talking to her. Kept trying to find a way forward. He understood Mary a bit better now. But he hadn't been there for all of those things. His family had been hiding doing their secret society bull shit. He needed to step up. He needed to take over the family and start doing good for the world. Too bad the family was so broken and few now. But it would be better than doing nothing.

That's what Ed was thinking about as he started trying to heal those who had been hit by the bus. Orange light flickered from his hands and failed to transmit to those hurt. He frowned. Hoping this wasn't something he had to be worried about. He cast the spell again, touching each Perry, Pietro, Jaclyn and Bethany's jars.

Again the spell flickered and then died out. Ed took a slow breath. Centering himself. Pushing the worry of his family and his own magic failing him aside. He couldn't let that concern him right now. Now he had to help his friends. This time his magic flowed from his hand and a tendril of orange light touched each of the four. They would feel warmth in the spots where they had gotten hurt and the pain would fade. Their bodies healing.

Andy, sitting on the ground, hissed between her teeth. "That was a good hit." She said, taking the offered hand and standing up. She winced a bit. "I'll be fine. Nothing broken." She tested her step nodding to herself. Andy considered going to the medic tent, but the bruise wasn't worth it.

"Let's keep going." Fighting through pain was a necessary skill. Andy had been hurt before while fighting. She hadn't let it stop her then. She wouldn't let it stop her now. Getting back into stance Andy took to the offensive immediately. Her first swing, hit nothing but empty air. Her second was met with Kristin's spear. She grinned, ready for Kristin's response.

Leandra was gone. Walking off the camp grounds. Niah had no idea what would become of her fate. She let Nancy go too. So now she was alone. She still hadn't told Nancy about her vision relating to her sister. Still hadn't told her where she was. Dead but alive.

Niah walked back toward the Roman part of the camp. She wanted to go home. Back to New Rome. Instead she went back to her tent. She sat at her desk looking at her notes. She closed her eyes and let them rest. It hadn't been hard to break up the fight. She wished she had done it sooner. She hoped Nancy didn't end up mad at her for doing that. Would this be another rift? Could Mads fix things by coming back? Niah was starting to doubt it.

Mandy sighed relieved when she pulled into the driveway. She grabbed the cat carrier backpack, wishing she had left the cat at home, but glad that she knew it was safe.

At the door, she double-checked her car was locked when Hermes got out and then unlocked the house door. She waved Hermes in and locked it behind him. She flashed the hall light switch several times—her way of shouting that she was home for her parents. They would either be in the living room or kitchen. She headed to the kitchen first.

In the kitchen, she scrubbed her hands for almost two minutes. Mentally she went over what they needed to have on hand. They'd need bug-out bags packed and ready. She wasn't the type that thought about that a lot, but she knew it was something to pack. They had an emergency bin for natural disasters and terrorism.

Mandy didn't remember 2001, but she knew that her dad had spent some time after making sure they'd have something. There was no radio. That relied on hearing and no one in the house could. She frowned and dried her hands. Then pulled out a yellow memo pad and wrote: Bug out bag. She looked at her cousin.

"What do we need to pack?" She didn't know how long they would be able to use the car. With traffic, it was already making it impossible. Leaving the city would be nearly impossible soon, at least via a car.

"Okay, cool." Andy said. Thankful she'd be able to actually talk about everything with someone. "I can tell you everything that happened to me in the Framework. Also, I seem to remember believing you, even if it seemed crazy. I trusted that you were from the future. I was mostly disappointed you didn't know any of the movies I did. Bonus though is I can still make you watch them." She smiled. Then the alarm went off. Andy frowned and grabbed her bag that held her mom's doll. If the building was going to burn down she was not leaving that behind. Screw the rules about evacuation safety.

"Let's go. I'll tell you about the Framework as we go." Andy headed out of the hall and toward the field that was the evacuation zone. "Basically we got put into old school games and had to fight for our lives. Sometimes it was the game trying to kill us. Or as Vicky is so hung up on she was controlled by Arcade and ended up killing me. That's how I got out. If we died in the game we died in real life. But what they failed to do was not touch me." Andy shrugged. She was not upset about killing the freshman. "I don't know what everyone had to do in their games. I died fairly early actually. In Breath of the Wild." She really had died early and quickly. Having only dealt with two games.

She lined up in the area designated for her hall and waited to be counted by the teachers. This was the most normal thing that she had had happen while going to this school in a while.

Andy smiled, pleased by the praise. Her embarrassment was still simmering but it reduced with the success. She waited for Kristin to return the blow, but Kristin missed. It had been easy to dodge. Kristin had clearly shown her move, it hadn't even been a feint. Andy wondered if that was a flaw of the spear over the sword.

She adjusted her stance, testing a simple feint, and landed a grazing blow on Kristin. It would have done little damage in a real fight with real weapons, but even a graze would be enough to start wearing down someone. She let Kristin find her footing again, going on the defensive. In a real fight Andy would have pressed her advantage, she wouldn't have let Kristin stand in the first place. But in a real fight she wouldn't always have the advantage.

Niah fought herself to release a pent-up sigh. The whole situation had gotten so out of hand so quickly that Niah had worried she wouldn't be able to diffuse the situation. It was likely that when her power wore off the others would be angry again, possibly focusing some of that back at her. But if they did all walk away it would give everyone some time to think and cool off.

She walked over to Nancy waiting for Demitri to let her down so she could support and be near her friend. The other two Greeks, Niah wasn't sure of one of their names she hadn't met her, who came over after the fact and hadn't been caught up in the blast of calmness at least seemed to want to diffuse the situation as well.

Niah didn't say anything else as at this point words were unimportant. She glanced toward Leandra. Where had it all gone wrong? Sure there had always been tension. But what had happened? What small thing had led to this moment? Niah couldn't pinpoint it. She felt that if she could maybe she could fix it all.

Ed's bubble around Chrysi had been frustratingly easy for her to dismiss. The options people were postulating were in some ways viable. In others not. His understanding of the Phoenix had led him to believe that they could not contain or control it. He remembered their last time in space and the man's fear at learning Phoenix was among them. He had not liked the man because of the threat he represented to Mary. And here they were threatening her.

Treating her like she was a delicate flower. Ed knew Mary had her cracks, her soft spots, but she was a strong woman. Too much had been placed upon her shoulders and they had let it stay that way for too long.

"Mary is our friend. We want to help her. That is all we ever wanted to do. How can we help? What do you need from us?" The circling around the problem wasn't going to help. Ed took a step forward, knowing that the others had his back if need be. As long as he wasn't killed instantly there was hope.

"Cops are dangerous." Mandy agrees. Her fear of cops coming from deep ingrained systemic issues. Cops often don't know how to deal with Deaf people and assume non-compliance. Several Deaf community members had been shot in the back by cops. Or they'd be handcuffed with their hands behind their backs. Or interpreters would be denied. Mandy had seen video of a woman being arrested and her children interpreting for her. It was unprofessional to use a child in such situations. Anger seethed at the memory of it, but she focused on driving since the traffic was thick.

"I'm alright. Honestly, I'm scared. I don't know what is happening and it feels tremendous. This is building up to be worse than Covid. If people like that are running around, your first guess might be right. Something much bigger is happening." Mandy signed slow since she was signing one-handed, but she had experience doing that. It was for the sake of Hermes that she took her time and kept her signs as clear as possible. One-handed signing could sometimes make some words indistinct.

"Yeah, we should probably be more careful how we take people with us next time. We didn't have a lot of time unfortunately. Explanations like take time. And even now time travel isn't really used." It was only because of where Zari was from that she could time travel, and it was with the use of an item that allowed it.

"Since you were late you missed a few things." As Andy led Zari to her room she caught her up on some of the missed details from the meeting with Coulson so she had the full context. She also mentioned how upset Vicky was, both relating to Coulson's handling of the situation and her self-flagellation related to killing Andy while under Arcade's control. "Leah had a lot of the same things to say, minus the self-flagellation as she hadn't been controlled into killing someone inside the Framework."

Andy didn't care for Vicky and while she approved of her getting to rant and get her emotions off her chest Andy still felt the other girl's personality was too abrasive for her. She doubted they'd ever be friendly. Though, Andy had a feeling she'd have to go out of her way to make it clear she really didn't care that she had been killed in the Framework by her. In fact, getting killed had given her the chance to save Zari. Andy wasn't excited about having to emotionally coddle someone she didn't like, but she'd rather that then have the person tearing themselves apart for something Andy considered more helpful than anything. Hell, she wished she had thought to just die intentionally in the Framework to escape rather than fight unbeatable situations.

Arriving in her room, unshared since her roommate had left the school for bigger and better things, Andy plopped on her bed and sighed. "Alright, since we are having mandatory therapy and now that your secret of time travel has been exposed, I wanted to check that it would be alright for me to talk about that stuff with whoever this therapist is. A lot happened before the jump in a very short amount of time for me. I do need to work through it and this is a good opportunity for it provided the rules around confidentiality are the same as I think and remember them being. Is it okay if I discuss that with this therapist?"

Andy was embarrassed. She hadn't even done a good show of the skills she had gained over the last year. Instead she looked like a fool. She reset her stance and took a moment to center herself. Andy nodded and moved again. This time she did better. At least the sword didn't fall out of her hand for no reason other than clumsiness.

She swung at Kristin and the attack was blocked. Andy used the moment of concentration Kristin had on focusing blocking to sweep around and knock her knees out from under her. Kristin fell to the ground and Any stepped back. She felt better now, though still not totally satisfied.

Andy waited for Kristin to stand back up and then went back into a ready stance. This time allowing Kristin to move first.

When the fighting had broken out Niah considered letting it play out. Nancy obviously needed to get some frustrations out. She shouldn't have used that word, but Niah wasn't going to be the one to say that when Zeke did. But the fight ramped up. It was moving on from school yard fight into powers. That was dangerous.

Niah took a long soothing breath and let the calmness of it sweep over the others. The anger starting to dissipate. Normally she wouldn't have used that on Nancy. Niah knew Nancy hated it. She hated doing it. But the heat that was radiating from one of her two best friends in the whole world was too hot. Things had gotten too out of hand.

"This is not the appropriate way to vent frustrations. We have a task to do right now. I am sorry that you don't approve of it Demetri. You, however, are not Roman and do not have a say in this. Just as if you were involved in judgement of a Greek we would not be welcome. Nancy, I am sorry." She did not add qualifiers to her apology to Nancy. There was too much that needed apologizing for.

Mandy texted her dad back, "Long story. I'll tell you when I get home. We're leaving now.". It was obvious the alarm had worked. The kid had jumped and was getting out of her car hands up. So the cops attention had been brought to the situation. She stepped aside so the kid could see that the cops were behind her.

That is when she noticed they had their sidearms out. She felt adrenaline hit, her skin getting tight and her armpits started to tingle as she started to sweat. The guns weren't pointed at her but that didn't make the situation any less dangerous. She slid behind the kid and into the front driver seat. She let out a little breath of air and waited for Hermes to get in so they could get going.

Once he was she started driving home. Thankful for that. Home was safety now. They needed to get there and bunker down until this ended. Mandy had no desire to be roaming the streets. It was too dangerous from the sick and healthy both.
