THE BATMAN IS DEAD. LONG LIVE THE BATMAN. Following the death of Bruce Wayne, his adopted son and former ward and first Robin, Richard 'Dick' Grayson has assumed the responsibilities and roles of his mentor. This includes the day-to-day operations at Wayne Enterprises, his accounts and vast fortune, but most importantly the role of Gotham's Dark Knight. Trained from the age of twelve, Dick Grayson has been prepared almost his whole life to step out of his mentor's shadow and don the cowl of the Bat. Along the way, he's known as the Boy Wonder, Robin and the Bright Knight of Blüdhaven, Nightwing. Along the way, Dick has tangled with numerous members of Bruce's rogue gallery and even built a collection of his own. P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) ________________________________________________________________________________________ As most of you know, Dick Grayson is my favourite character in all of comics and I often like to portray him in these games. Given the premise of this game, I thought it'd be fun to portray a Dick Grayson who has been forced to put his life on hold to preserve the legacy of his father, Bruce Wayne. Ideally, this will give me an avenue to show a Dick Grayson struggling with self-identity, legacy and duty all the while fighting the usual evils that lurk within Gotham's walls. A character open to collaborating with other players for team ups and guest appearances, I want to build on the mythos of the Batman, with Bruce having operated for a number of years prior to the modern era, albeit fairly independently and free of teams and other obligations outside of the Bat-Family. In terms of Bat-Family characters, I'm setting the stage with Bruce's death, the circumstances and cause of which will be kept ambiguous in line with the 'Secret Invasion' premise until later. I S S U E # X X HEAVY IS THE HEAD Seeing RICHARD GRAYSON as an inadequate heir to Batman's Mission and scorned that the late Dark Knight did not pass the cowl to him, JEAN-PAUL VALLEY, the current AZRAEL has decided to begin a new Crusade in Gotham, aiming to usurp the role of Batman from under the former Flying Grayson. For aeons, the Phantom Stranger, emissary of the Spectre and keeper of all, has watched over the garden of the Maker. His silent vigil is endless and without rest, for he sees all and watches all, wandering across all of existence to perform his duty. It is his unending watch that keeps the realm of mortals at peace and his tireless actions which prevent the scales from tipping too far out of balance.

Now, he is missing.

Those on the mortal plane would not notice his presence but those who traverse the other side can feel his absence. The cold winds in the alley. The lengthening of the shadows. The growing silence. Without his gaze, the cosmos begins to unravel.

Left with no other options, Madame Xanadu has had to peer deep into her blackest ledger to find six individuals capable of undertaking a cause, deemed hopelessly lost to most…

That’s where they come in… The Shadow Pact.

Six heavy debts. Six misfit souls. Six months to rebalance the scales.

Think ‘Suicide Squad’ meets ‘Justice League Dark’. Me and @Abstract Proxywant to create something pretty wonky and this feels like the right environment to do it in. We’re mixing in several magical characters from both DC and Marvel into some weird-ass cocktail you find in a seedy little bar at 1 AM and hoping that it works out for the worst (in all the best ways).

The main beat of the starting storyline is that the Phantom Stranger is missing. How and why you might ask? Well, that’s what this cast of characters have to find out as they have to learn to work together and discover that the real Phantom Stranger was the friends they made along the way.

The Suit of Souls now resides with Anna Levina, a mid level Gotham criminal with some perhaps not so distant ties to the organized crime of a distinctly Russian flavor. Given the theme of the Shadowpact we wrote up, I wanted to lean into a Ragwoman that is less a law abiding citizen and more a woman working to redeem herself, much like the souls trapped in the Suit of Souls, who can only find freedom by willingly helping the Ragwoman do good. It's not quite a curse as with Guillotine and the demonic sword she is forced to wield, but I'm hoping to explore a bit more the idea that Ragwoman understands/sympathizes much more with the criminals/villains/evil-doers she interacts and that she isn't exactly happy to have to carry the heavy (to her mind) mantle of Ragwoman.
