The comic book world is such a rich sandbox! Perhaps none richer than the X-Men -mutations to mix, slice-of-life elements to turn into anything but ordinary -the lines are drawn but the colours exceed them ~care to embark on the eXploration with me?

@Timuir Okay.
So then yeah, you can join. And we'll go with your character not being a part of the RP from the very beginning, instead coming in some bit into the RP. Or if you'd prefer to be there from the start, we can discuss a few more particulars, np.
Well, they do have certain ones that represent the Xmen. And they are considered mentors and professors. (Hehe well I imagine he would)

True!

And yes regarding the cartoons, too, although I think what they lack in the breadth of characters they make up for in the depth of the stories. Though actually, I was surprised how X-Men: Evolution did handle a larger cast. When they intro'd the younger students in, I think Season 2? I was expecting them just to be background, filling in the world a little more. But they actually got decent screentime and key moments for some of them.

X-Men: TAS might've been able to cover more, at least other Marvel characters, but times were different back then.
Throughout its run, though, there were quite a lot of mutants and X-Men characters we got to see, though, if only mostly as one offs if memory serves.

I mean I guess the animated series actually are like the comics in that, I think the comics do stay the same for quite a while. Like in real time we could have the same cast of X-Men for several years, and even a plot building over that course of time. It's just now that we're 60 years on, looking back at most of these stories, they all feel available right now, you know? Where as reading them when they came out might've felt the same as watching any of the series, like if you think of the run of a specific writer or rather writer/artist combo like its own series.

Though that's coming from someone who hasn't gotten through too much of those years, yet; bits and pieces.
From that I do think the thought applies to some more than others.
Like the earliest comics, Lee/Kirby, went places, man. You never really expect what each one will feature.

Now I'm certainly not saying as time went on they grew more predictable (certainly many of the much lauded creators came later),
just I think more modern comics follow more of a format. At least what I've read of the Utopia era, for instance, felt to me like a TV drama.

(I hope none of that came off as stupid. My mind's not firing on all cylinders today).
Jaclyn "OfAll" Chreyz

Location: X Mansion

Current Outfit (magic): two piece gown + embellished collar

Jaclyn was already in the Dark Alley when Mira had come out of Hyde Park, and hadn't noticed her join the others in the Pub.

Dark alleys had a way of being more than they were -reminding Jaclyn of numerous edgy or vulnerable scenes from media.
As well as more "slice of life" situations -the desperate street life. As her eyes roved over the most shadowed places which a part of her felt she dare not step into, and another part felt she must -perhaps though, not without a light source- they landed on a heap of something; garbage by the looks of it, though it was hard to tell in the gloom.

There was just enough light in this portion of the alley that Jaclyn could make some objects out when she stepped closer.
She had wished, though, she hadn't left the Cricket Bat behind. She would prefer to use it to leaf through such detritus.

She was actually looking around for something else she might use for the purpose and something that seemed like it could do, with enough of it poking out that Jaclyn could comfortably grab it. When she did, however, she realized what she was holding: the Blowpipe.

It was not long after this when distinctive footsteps could be heard coming up, and Jaclyn turned, still grasping the possible weapon, to find Perry. But ahead of any following action on Jaclyn's part, a voice not her own quite literally interrupted her thoughts.

It was Guin's. Calling them to action -or at least to pre-action.

At once Jaclyn's character persona fell while she listened. Out of reflex she looked at Perry again, as if making a nonverbal comment about the message they clearly all just received given the wording if not fellow reactions, then Jaclyn started moving back towards the Pub: "Sounds like we'll have to save this for later," she called out as she neared Max and Mira. Her absorption in the game giving way to mature concern; it was fun while it lasted. In what way did Mary need them, now? "Max, can you get our outfits back to what they were?" Jaclyn asked, paused while she waited for the sim to disengage so they could head out the real door.
@Timuir
It's different than what I had in mind, but I'm liking it in a specific way -how I see this character working in the RP would be like, a character the "starting characters" meet up with later, while they're already into their own discovery journeys. Like a mid-way point entry character, though probably sooner than mid-way.

This type of character could add another layer to things given the differences to the others with the only similarity I'm seeing so far being they want to know the truth.

That is, I'm picturing they're on their own, not living at the Mansion / not really having been raised by any of the X-Men, but perhaps you had a different idea there?
@Pandora13

Yeah, I think "the mutant metaphor" is more like a spread out thematic thing or a throughline that comes up more or less depending what media you're taking in your which comics. Some of the comics lean much heavier into standard superheroes-against-cataclysmic-disaster (except in the X-Men's case, it's almost always because they're mutants rather than they're caught up in somebody else's war etc).

Hmmm...mascots is an interesting thought.
I think they can be simultaneously that as well as mentors.

(and Beast must get his stuff tailor made!)

@Pandora13 Yeah, there's a lot of sides to the mutant story. Like there's the theory -theory might not be the right word. The take?- of the "mutant metaphor", where mutants are stand ins for various things of our actual society. Namely or initially racial/civil rights, though more recently it's drawn closer or even direct lines to the LGBTQ+ community. But I know that there are people who relate to them from the disability community. Many mutants having atypical bodies; looking different, literally not fitting in (e.g. Nightcrawler has three fingers. He can't just buy gloves off the rack).

How I think of it also is like, what are their limitations? For instance, Cyclops. If he ever has problems with his eyes, something as simple as putting eyedrops in would not be a straightforward process for him.
@Pandora13 Yeah, I didn't know that about Forge until recently.
What I also found interesting was that was described or implied to be a gifted child even before she was gifted in the mutant sense, so like traditionally gifted.

There's kind of that aspect to mutantcy where if you think of it like someone being "more able" than you, and some people when they see others "higher" want to bring them down. Which is an interesting reverse of how mutantcy (among other things) can also be a metaphor for disability. It's those sorts of aspects that I don't think we see focused on as much in the stories, at least not what I've read so far.
I mean the fear of them does relate to them being able to do things others can't, thought "dangerous" things, but I haven't come across many stories that present it from a disability perspective which I think could open up a lot of interesting insights and reflections.
While Ryder, close as she proximally came, didn't touch Xavier physically, nor did she mentally, her words came like a verbal strike, causing Xavier to close his eyes in a just-perceptible flinch.

There were several reasons for this, though chief among them was the reaffirmation of how he was failing to make any sort of positive connection with his daughter. Fix her. He'd never seen her as broken.

It seemed, for the next moment, as though he were just sitting there in these feelings and chastisement, when in fact he was giving a command to two of his X-Men via his "private channel".

His eyes opened after that, though feelings indeed churned up as they were, he didn't meet hers; speaking as though he were reflecting as much as stating: "Yes. There is very little I understand of this situation. . .My X-Men have countered innumerable threats and circumstance that were then, unimaginable," -a very mild counterstrike that Ryder's understanding of their lives wasn't any more than theirs of hers- "yet none that compare."

Only now did his voice come a little firmer, as he came closer to ground he felt steady on: "Which is why I will not let them be the fools who rush in. You have knowledge and experience, and I now know," -a sigh- "nothing I say will divert you from your course. Though the facts remain that the clock has been reset for now. .and Storm and Beast are on their way in our remaining aircraft to confer with Moira on the matter." He was meeting Ryder's eyes, now. "You have a unique and remarkable mode of transportation in your powers, though I don't know that they will service you across the Atlantic. In this meantime I intend to hold a briefing with my X-Men which could benefit from what you know. Though I leave the sharing of that up to you."

There was no reverse psychology in this, it was simply back to being Ryder's move. Though Xavier, chess player that he was, was half convinced he already knew what it would be. Yes, the easiest mode of getting back to Umbra's lines was taken out of the equation, but he would've been the ultimate fool if he didn't understand Ryder was resourceful; she'd find another way if she was inclined on ending this now rather than later, on her own terms and her own, period.

What he wasn't certain of was what the details of that "other way" would be, and could only hope they wouldn't bring he and her into terrible opposition. . .Holding onto the hope this past while had actually cultivated, given Ryder had actually stayed here, still showing notable restraint compared to the girl they'd first encountered. Beginning to participate, having gone on the mission with Cyclops only hours ago. . .

So the part of him that remained unconvinced, merely waited.

Closely observing these two was Logan. So far as he could see Charles was still rolling on thin ice when it came to Ryder who, despite the surface level similarity to Logan in being augmented to be someone else's weapon, Logan recognized as an entirely different animal. His heightened senses presently had him alert in case her fight-or-flight response -specifically the fight part- were to be triggered again; Logan was a much more robust target for whatever she could dish out than Xavier, or anyone.
@Master EffeX

Hello there ^^

I've done Xmen roleplay before but it didn't get too far. But I do love the cartoons and the comics. (Storm is my favorite X-Men by the way hehe.) I hadn't joined any groups before. I have only done 1x1 roleplays. I'd have to think about it.

My cache ideas tend to be 1x1.
The one at the bottom, eXtant, I imagined as a group but could be done 1x1 alternatively.

Anyway yeah. : )
And so cool Storm's your favourite! I've been writing my own X-Men adaptation (so not an RP) and intend to do a Storm Chronicles (though I think I should have a more diverse voice to collaborate with, given I'm White). I recently read one of the classic comics which gave me a whole new perspective on Storm. I think there's a lot more to that character than her awesome powers and "Goddessness" that's usually focused on.

Jaclyn's observant eyes first did a cursory comb of the Dock as she arrived on scene -no other souls about at this particular moment, save for the gulls- then a more thorough look as she carefully walked around.

She actually concentrated on the gulls for a bit to see if they had snatched up any clues, but it didn't seem so. In fact, it didn't seem anything was around until two of the creatures' antics on the water directed Jaclyn's eyes there, and among the ripples she could just make out something beneath that gave her a feeling of not belonging.

Nearing the spot, Jaclyn still couldn't quite make out what she was seeing, or even explain why she felt the thing seemed out of place, but it definitely did. She rolled up one of her sleeves and reached in -the invasion scattering the two gulls- extracting a Cricket Bat.

A bat out here? Holding it across both her hands, Jaclyn looked it over carefully. It didn't seem like a junker someone had tossed, and it hadn't been terribly hidden that someone who had just dropped it by accident wouldn't have been able to locate and retrieve it. No, her instinct was it was tossed into the water for another reason.

Reaching back into the cool water, Jaclyn decided to replace the object as she had found it.
She had her reasons.

Task completed, she waved her arm a small degree in front of herself to circulate some air around it, drying it some, before bringing her sleeve back down; glancing around to see if anyone had observed her at all.

As far as she saw, they hadn't.

Jaclyn didn't notice anything else of note here, deciding to move on.
As one shady area proved useful, she traveled towards another, proceeding towards the Dark Alley.

This happened to take her in front of the pub again, and just like the first time she turned her head to eye the goings-on inside as she passed the window at a cool pace. Her eyebrows raised; Perry had been joined by Max. They looked like they were getting cozy, or at least Perry may've been hoping so, given the body language Jaclyn could see. Was she observing conspirators? Or a trickster and soon-to-be trickee?

The consideration was made to join them -and she would give a somewhat closed yet acknowledging look if either met her eye- yet ultimately she walked on. It might prove more useful to catch up with them after their private chat.
