We Pretty much open. Long as you try not to break game and we do work with players to make thr game fit the charceters and the plots that be happening.
I’ll need to do a bit of gauging before I can come up with a solid character myself. I have a few basic ideas at the moment I could build on.

It all depends on if players have consented to plan, plot or real risk of charceter deaths etc.
