“Guards! Escort her to her room!”

Anastasia's eyes had followed her father to her mother, who simply nodded. Neither even looked at her as guards moved to her side. It's like I'm not even their daughter... Was I ever? This idea did not sting horribly, however, for two reasons. The first was that she had accepted the detachment between her parents a long time ago; that it was something that would always be. As for the latter, she did not even want to be their daughter right now. What she wanted mattered not. Here in her home, she was not a princess nor a Danrose; she was nothing more than a pest to shoo out of the room. Wulfric could have walked to the center of the room, and said the same thing she had, using his fancy-schmancy vocabulary and eloquent dialogue, of course. Everyone would have looked on in adoration.

Maybe if they hadn't thrown Darryn's life on the line, she might have goofed off and put on some eloquent act too. Though it would have been received as a joke, even though Wulfric and Auguste were always roleplaying too, at least in her eyes. Her gaze snapped to her eldest brother for a moment. For once, the look she gave him was not a nice one. He's okay with this... Isn't he? With them hurting Darryn. I thought maybe he was different than them, but I've been as stupid as everyone thinks I am. He's just like them.

She bolted forward as the guards arrived. Their hands grasped at her forearms as she slipped away. "You better not hurt Darryn. I am not leaving without him!" Once she left this room, there wasn't much she could do. They'd certainly take him to the dungeon, and it was almost impossible to break in there. However, her words were spoken into a void. No one had looked her away or said anything. That only made her angrier. She moved towards Darryn's side, who shook her head at her to try to discourage her movements. It was then a firm grip was placed on each of her arms, and then she was practically picked off the floor. They were careful not to squeeze her arm too hard, but it was enough to keep the rather small girl in their hold. Two knights flanked each of her sides. They easily proceeded to pull her up the stairs.

"You're sick! Darryn didn't do anything. This is all bullshit!" They had ascended the stairs and made their way to the door at this point, which shut in her face as she called down to them. It was then she fell silent, chewing her lip as her anxiety racked her. Her vision was blurred with her tears, but she still managed to catch the contorted expression of the servant girl as it was ever the intense one. Her name's Riona... And she's wearing stable clothes. She doesn't usually, does she? She recalled to herself and simply met her look with a defeated one. As she passed, she said softly, "You're right, Riona."

Anastasia wasn't sure if she even heard her. But here she had been calling her parents about how sick they were when in reality, she had been playing with Darryn like a mouse. She had not treated him like an equal, just as they were not. Whatever she asked, he had done, and it had been easy. She had told herself how it had been innocent and simply paid no mind to possible consequences. Certainly, she had seen Darryn as a friend she cared for. But in the end, he was in this mess because she had been a bad friend.

As Riona had sidestepped away, the guard let go of Anastasia's arm. He moved after Riona, calling to her, "You! You go get cleaned up and get in your proper uniform. Then bring Princess Anastasia some breakfast since you seem to love staring her down!"

"Just leave her alone."Anastasia told him. Meanwhile, the other guard had let go of her arm too and opened her bedroom door. He made a motion for her to enter and she did quite hastily.

King Edin's daughter did not behave in the way a noblewoman should from any kingdom. Her words were simple and her thoughts unfiltered. He supposed if she had been Raif's daughter, he would have scolded her for lack of tact and poise in her presentation of herself. He could not quite insult her parents too much for such a thing. Mayet, despite efforts, was not one to pretty up her words either.

However, there was something comforting about Princess Anastasia's rawness at this moment. As everyone had prettied their words up in an attempt to control the situation, she had simply told her truth. There was the matter of a man she would not name, but Raif could understand not bringing someone, who in her eyes was innocent, into a potentially dangerous situation. He, himself, had mixed feelings about it as he would indeed like to question whoever had hosted the bizarre event. The King, however, apologized for her behavior and then ordered her to be dragged out by guards as if she were a peasant who had wandered into the wrong room. The princess was not pleased; her reaction was rather intense, to say the least; her behavior was not that of respect for her parents.

There is a hierarchy amongst the children, it seems. They do not hold the same value. From the behavior of the youngest, I gather they spent less time on those two and then detest that they are not as well carved as the older two.

"It was not necessary to remove her. I asked for candor and she delivered hers."The Sultan commented once the doors had shut."We now have the beginning of the story straight...I gather something goes awry upon arriving at the party. "

“I propose we dismiss this event here and move on to some breakfast. It seems more investigation is required in order to find the perpetrator… Your Majesty.” The Sultan's eyes met the queen's as she addressed him. “If this is alright with you, My husband and I would like some time to gather intel from my children and whoever else we can. As soon as possible, I will then meet with you again with all the answers you desire. Whatever steps are necessary to make you and your family comfortable and happy here, we are willing to take.“

Her eldest echoed this sentiment, assuring him, “Please rest assured that we will obtain the information, Your Majesty.”

Raif was silent for a moment. Then, he gave them a curt nod, "This is acceptable." This was all draining so early in the morning anyhow.

Mayet's voice had entered his ear. "That girl is being used. She doesn't even have the capacity to lie. Let alone to scheme something."

"Is that so?"He had commented with intrigue, whispering back, "She gave me the impression of a young woman fed up with the lying of others. What a pitiful story if she is indeed being fooled by the friend she is protecting."

He had hoped that the next ordeal would not occur, but he knew it had been unavoidable. All Raif could do was anticipate with disdain before Hafiz started his daily tirade. He could understand now why the princess had been escorted out as he listened. He wished to do the same with his brother.

"Grand Vizier is right; we do not easily forgive our enemies," Nahir's words drew his attention, "but we must be sure who our enemy is." His daughter's words were wise, and pride swelled in his chest. He liked to know he could count on her to know what was proper to say, unlike Hafiz.

"Fath— Sultan, I suggest we take Her Majesty's advice and move on to breakfast. An empty stomach can affect one's mood and decision-making, and I can see my uncle Hafiz, unfortunately, skipped his meal." Raif returned the head bow to his daughter, then adjusted himself to address the King and Queen one more time.

"We do not wish to be enemies." Raif clarified. "We hold the sentiment of disparagement. However, involving our people in the investigation would be a good step to healing our trust in you. I echo my brother's call for respect, but without threat. I will leave some of my people here for your usage."

"Without further adieu, I will take my leave to the guest house... I do expect that breakfast is served for us."The Sultan simply dismissed himself, beginning to leave and expecting his children to follow. He rested a comforting hand on Farim's shoulder briefly as he passed him. Now to find Saiya.

If the scenery before him couldn’t have become more idiotic, it had. He watched, one by one, the partygoers either began covering their tracks or flat out throwing one another under the bus. However, one person impressed him the most: his youngest and formidable niece. Mayet’s outburst delighted him. What a smart and ferocious young woman she had become. It was a shame she didn’t want the throne; she had the ferocity and her priorities straight regarding their kingdom. Still, he’d keep her in mind. He rolled his eyes when his brother motioned for her to calm down. With a quiet sigh, he gave her an approving nod with a grin in his eyes.

Then, unfortunately, the youngest prince, Callum, spoke up, and his gaze flicked to him. The disappointment of the family was taking the blame. Fitting. Hafiz sighed internally as he waited for the pitiful scene to dissolve. Fortunately, Duke Leo of the Varian kingdom spoke up next and was equally displeased by the result. Whether or not they were on good terms or not, he couldn’t decipher. His words were helpful, though; due to the discovery of some bumbling fool with a blonde cowlick had been named. The description did ring a bell, although. Despite his lack of attendance, he knew who it had been. He’d seen the good-for-nothing peasant dancing with Princess Anastasia yesterday. Hafiz’s cold gaze had rested upon each of them as they spoke while analyzing them. It was as if he could see through them to their core.

Hafiz was ready to interject when his son - he shuddered at the thought - spoke up. He then inclined his head toward him to listen. As he rambled on, Hafiz felt his anger rising. Clenching his fists, he imagined pounding him to a pulp. How had he created such a foolish son? The man was hopeless. Was he not furious with the treatment of their kingdom? He was as soft as his brother. It was an embarrassment to the old regime that, as royal guests, they would endure treatment like this. They had been humiliated as soon as they had walked into the door and now practically poisoned at a so-called party, and all Farim could think to do was smooth things over. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he brought up Esrin.

He shifted his weight from foot to foot to try to contain it. How could that boy have my blood? I could rip him limb from limb! Does he not feel any shame? … The only beneficial thing that comes from you being my son is that you’re not Raif’s son… There will be punishment. For Farim and for these Caesonian bastards. His head whipped to glare at his brother, disgusted with his calm countenance.

As he readjusted his gaze away, Saiya crossed his mind. It was clear that Farim had been smoothing things over for her sake. She hadn’t remembered anything either, so what good was she? He knew she had been the one to escort him there and involve him in this mess. He wanted to punish her, but it would invoke the wrath of the others. He hoped, despite his son’s wishes, that the Sultan would remove her head for her deed. She was as guilty as the servant boy Alibeth had presented after all. He would be out a spy, however, and quite the spy she was.

Suddenly, all hell broke loose when the Danrose daughter began her confession. Hafiz watched her break down and recognized the damage the girl had. It reminded him of…. His thoughts trailed away before he could finish that sentence. Her tears, panic, and then her rebelliousness made Hafiz want to choke her until she begged for mercy. He couldn’t stand when people let themselves become an emotional mess. If it weren’t for the audience, he would have spoken to her and let her know what he thought.

Unfortunately, the King of Caesonia spoke up and ushered her out. He blamed his youngest children and found it amusing how broken of a family they were. He noted it in the back of his mind while analyzing the situation. The eldest prince spoke again, and Hafiz felt his ears ringing with rage. Of course, nobody could remember! They had been practically POISONED! Hafiz let out a low growl, unable to fully contain it anymore. They wanted to investigate it? Was he SERIOUS? Did he truly think their family would feel reassured? They were incompetent! There had not been one hour while in Caesonia that something foul had not occurred! Hafiz stared icily back at Wulfric and gave no response or acceptance of his words.

Before he could begin, Mayet spoke up and gave his son a piece of her mind and he felt more pride swell inside of her. She was right on target and spoke the most sense. How was it nobody else was noticing that the Caesonia Kingdom was trying to make a mockery of them? He barely heard her sympathy for the princess.

Hafiz, however could no longer remain silent and, as such, finally began his tirade. "NO.” His voice came out low and cold as he marched forward. ” We have been humiliated, our children poisoned, memories taken, and now we’re supposed to trust you? Do you realize how absurd that is? It was obvious that you were covering for your daughter and will continue to do so! Do you think your pretty words will reassure us that you are not trying to ruin our diplomacy? You have a lot of nerve asking for us just to wait and let you investigate. You were ready to throw the stable boy to his death to save your own skin! Unless…” He paused, and a calculated smile crossed his features.

“We will take the lead on the investigation and work with your people. Perhaps then we can start forgiving you for your insolence. I also demand that we be treated with more respect and hospitality during our stay. If one more thing happens to my family during our stay, we will not hesitate to take action.” He glared at them, his eyes moving across the crowd like a wild animal ready to pounce and tear them apart. He huffed as his breathing increased, and he scowled at them. ” Your duke still needs to be punished for humiliating and injuring my family last night. My brother may be merciful… but I do not forget nor easily forgive my enemies.”

"You will be allowed to come and go as you please under your father's blessing. We have no wish to imprison you, Mayet. My idea was to monitor and make sure you are leaving with proper protection."

Alibeth knew this morning would be difficult. There was not much they could have done to prepare in such a short time frame. No matter how she could twist it, the monstrosity that had been the prior night and morning was not acceptable. She folded her arms behind her back and balled her fists. If only… Alas, she knew her place was to hold her tongue now that her husband was here. She needed a moment to think anyhow.

However, holding her tongue after her son spoke, taking the blame unnecessarily out of nowhere, was almost impossible. Her gaze snapped on Callum with anger. She expected more intelligence from him. There had been no need for him to martyr. If there had only been more time, she could have gotten him on board with the plan. She was not throwing Darryn under the bus for just his and Anastasia’s sake. This was also about the kingdom. If the blame were put on him instead of the stable boy, the Alidasht could have reason to suspect their family’s involvement. Combined with last night’s antics, it may seem as if they were being made out as fools, which they clearly would not stand for.

To say something now would only worsen things, especially with her husband supporting the notion. Though the queen was a woman normally quick on her feet, this situation was becoming exceedingly difficult to talk her way out of. As the Grand Vizier’s son spoke up, she noticed his father practically seething with anger nearby. Despite that, it became clear that Farim was trying to smooth things over. The Sultan was surprisingly remaining calm as well and rather reasonable with his request, though one she could not quite fully grant.

Lady Zarai of the Varian Kingdom subsequently stepped up in defense of Darryn, and she almost rolled her eyes. This isn’t the time to play hero. Her pig of a husband was, of course, eager to speak with her. The girl would not get her chance to speak regardless, as somehow things would take another twist.

Anastasia apparently was feeling very honest.

And the more she spoke, the sicker Alibeth felt.

There is no point in this rambling. Incriminating herself as much as possible, and for what purpose? Good friends? God. I should stop her.

"Anastasia..."

That, of course, did no good. Even her father, who normally did his best to avoid her, was mortified with her. There was no tact nor class in her speech. Additionally, all of it was useless information. Alibeth felt it did not matter at this point who brought them to the party or even that they went. She was certain the Sultan wanted to know as much as her why they came back in such a state. From the front-loaded focus in the stories Callum and Anastasia had told, none of that information had been provided. Perhaps they could end this all if they could simply find out who threw the party and subsequently throw them into the arena. There, they could all watch the evildoer hang and feel at peace. "Just tell us who threw the party, Anastasia." The queen was met with a rebellious retort in reply.

Of course. Why would anything simply be easy?

King Edin’s gut instinct was to get Anastasia out of the room. Their daughter was quick to protest quite passionately, so despite her initial judgment, she nodded curtly to the guards who moved to the princess’s side. While it was not one of his worst ideas, Alibeth felt simply ending this before it got worse was the best choice. Though she knew normally he’d be angry with her for speaking and not letting him take the glory, she figured in this instance, he’d appreciate ending the chaos. “I propose we dismiss this event here and move on to some breakfast. It seems more investigation is required in order to find the perpetrator… Your Majesty.” She angled her body to face the Sultan. “If this is alright with you, My husband and I would like some time to gather intel from my children and whoever else we can. As soon as possible, I will then meet with you again with all the answers you desire. Whatever steps are necessary to make you and your family comfortable and happy here, we are willing to take.“ She glanced toward Wulfric, wondering if she was on the same page as her.

King Edin had been booming with pride for his prized son Wulfric as he took the focus momentarily. He had always pushed Wulfric to take control of situations as he was the future King. He needed the practice and to understand that the pressure would be all on him one day. However, his smile had fallen when he approached Callum and Anastasia. Good God, Wulfric. You know better than to let those idiots speak.

However, he raised interesting questions. The night prior was an embarrassment. It did not reflect well on their kingdom. Not only were his royal offspring expected to be well-behaved and intelligent, but he was certain the Sultan felt the same and would also feel embarrassed by this outcome.

To his surprise, the Sultan's daughter Mayet was the first to voice her displeasure. King Edin found this extremely distasteful that he would let a young woman speak for the family. The girl thought she was very important, and King Edin shot the Sultan a glance. Did he really not keep the women in line in his family? Surely they must know their place was to remain silent while the men speak first. To think this was the girl who danced with Wulfric sent a shudder down his spine. He wondered if Wulfric would feel humiliated to have such an outspoken creature at his side. Edin sure hoped so. In fact, he hadn't even bothered listening to her words, his gaze moving to the tiger as she spoke. If Wulfric continues to choose her, that vile animal will be the first to go.

King Edin whirled immediately at the sudden sound of Callum’s voice. He had been about to shout over him and silence him when he realized the boy was being a decent individual for once, being honest and owning up to his mistake. He glanced his way as he finished talking and addressed the Sultan. “Yes, my son Callum, well, he hit his head hard as a child and is often a little slow with his decision-making. Harmless, but very unintelligent. It can’t be helped. Please let us know how Callum can make things right with, Your Majesty.”
However, the Sultan had said nothing to that and had simply nodded with an unreadable expression. Obviously, no one was going to blame Darryn, especially because Shehzadi Mayet pointed out how nonsensical the idea was. They were going to have to try a new angle.

It was getting difficult to have a smooth back and forth as all had something to add. Lord Leo Smithwood felt the need to bring up a “pertinent” detail and refer to a man with a cowlick. King Edin leaned over in his chair to scrutinize Leo. ”Who? What cowlick man? Describe him with more detail.” He had read all about the cowlick man in the morning paper and knew whoever he was, he was bad news. Perhaps he had been to blame! Again, before King Edin could have a productive conversation, somebody else started talking. With a incredulous look on his face, he turned his gaze on a young Alidasht man. The first thing he noticed as that Farim had a superior fashion sense, something King Edin could get behind. The next thing he caught on to was that this Farim guy was trying to keep the peace, which was helpful though boring. He wanted to end this situation so if anyone had any means to smooth it over, it was welcomed.

Ugh. Another claims the stable boy’s innocence. Why does anyone care about him?

The Sultan stepped forward, heat finding his way into his voice as he addressed those words. "There is something very concerning happening and we simply want the truth."He whirled on Farim. "I have not called for anyone's death so there is no need to guilt me with such. Yet it does seem this boy had a part to play in putting royal offspring in danger, and for that, he should face punishment for his crime. I will leave what punishment is seen fit up to Her Highness Queen Alibeth and King Edin. In order for my family to feel comfortable remaining here further, I demand candor."

The Sultan suddenly moved forward and spoke, seemingly unhappy with Farim’s many statements so he clapped his hands and moved forward. ”Yes! Eyewitnesses! I believe we need to ask the young here to describe just what happened leading up to this party. Everyone, we need to give the immensely merciful and kind Sultan the honest truth… Would anyone like to volunteer?”

As if on cue, a pretty young girl came forward and asked for the reconsideration of Darryn. King Edin looked down upon her. Though he firmly believed women should hold off on speaking unless asked to, he supposed he had called for it this time. Besides, she was well-spoken and polite. On top of that, she was familiar.Lady Zaroo. Zaraf. Zakai. Eh. Whatever. Noble from the Varian Kingdom. I should be kind to keep relations with them well. They must be tense with us as well after last night. Nonetheless, King Edin gave her a smile, “Hello there. Your kindness is admirable. We’ll see what we can do about Derek over there… But first, please give your full statement of last night’s events… As much as you can remember.“

From there, King Edin thought things might run smoothly. This graceful Lady of the Varian Kingdom surely would be careful with her words. If she managed to impress him enough, he’d ensure she had a chance to convene with his sons later in the day. Perhaps they’d appreciate a woman like her. He certainly did.

That was when his absolute mental case of a daughter started talking. He had never encountered someone who could make a situation go so wrong ever so quickly. She was now taking the blame out of nowhere when no one had called for it. If only she had been so apologetic when she had drained the kingdom of funds and got some of his best knights killed. When she had been born, he thought perhaps they had been blessed to have a beautiful daughter that they could easily one day marry off, but she never could learn her place. When nothing else had worked, he had resigned to ignoring her. It soothed him to do so normally, but she was currently making herself very difficult to ignore. Did she not realize implicating herself could very well make it seem as if the whole family was in on this catastrophe? As if he was!? He feared the Sultan questioned her motive, and she could not be trusted to have an intelligent answer.

Good friends with the man who held the event? Don’t tell me she thinks she’s in love again…

He was at a loss of words, uncertain if it would be worse to silence her. On the other hand, his wife seemed to be attempting to halt the girl. Anastasia only worsened things as she now had made it seem like they killed innocent people regularly without investigation, villainizing them to the Sultan. King Edin thought he might hurl. He thought he had undergone enough humiliation with Lorenzo’s antics, but now his own blood was ruining everything. She had to be removed from the premise.

King Edin laughed nervously and gave the Sultan an apologetic look. “I’m deeply apologetic, Your Majesty. You see, she’s quite young and has a bit of a lying problem. I cannot tell you how embarrassed I am…”He stood without hesitation, calling, “Guards! Escort her to her room!” The guards looked at each other in confusion, then glanced at Queen Alibeth for confirmation. Unfortunately, King Edin caught sight of this event and scowled in reaction. In an attempt to push past what had happened, he returned his gaze to Lady Zarai and gave her that friendly smile again.

Anastasia had smiled faintly in greeting when Wulfric spoke to her. However, soon her attention was stolen by the sight of Callum. Relief overcame her. As he moved over to hug her, she met his steps with her own and hugged him tightly, burying her face in his shoulder as he spoke. She felt as if she were reliving the previous moment. Her mind was taken by the sight of her little brother unconscious in the bed at the clinic as her mother's words plagued her with crippling guilt.

I did that to him.

His words ripped her out of the past, and she plucked her head up, whispering back, "No. I did this..."Anastasia ended the hug to meet his eyes. "I'm so sorry..."She was well aware of her actions; how she usually put herself in a stupid situation one way or another. Everyone would chastise her and let her know how foolish she had been. The thing was, she had known it to be foolish before doing so and could not bring herself to care. But this time, she hadn't expected this outcome, and she cared more than she could handle.

Her mother's words melted into a mess as all took their place to hear her lecture. She didn't need to listen to know what she had to say. It was vague damage control, and that's all anyone needed to know. Her gaze had moved about the rest of the room, looking at the faces of her brothers, the Alidasht, Zarai, Roman...

Did they blame her?
Did they hate her?

A guilty conscience did pull her attention back in to listen to how everyone had been put in danger without empathy. It felt like this was all towards her. I just... I go all the time. Marek wouldn't hurt anyone. I don't understand. I wouldn't let anyone get hurt... Especially not Callum...

Then came the moment Darryn Fletcher was dragged in. That was the moment Anastasia knew that this may be the beginning of the end of her life. A scream caught in her throat, and she moved forward on instinct with terror in her eyes. She could tell they had been hurting him... The sweet freckled boy had only been doing what she asked. She needed to stop this. Her lips parted, but it felt as if fear gripped her by the throat, choking her so she could not speak. At first, she was not sure what was stopping her. She had always acted on impulse. But then she realized it was because part of her felt her next move would ensure her own death.

They were going to demand she give them Marek's name, and she knew she could not do it. They'd certainly kill him. When it came down to it, she was the most useless of the siblings. If she pushed her mother into a corner here and forced them all to accept her as the culprit, she was certain her parents would shrug off having her executed to keep the peace. With all the trouble she caused, she could imagine her mother laughing and talking about how much easier life would be without her. Tears brimmed in her eyes at the imagery. She had gone too far this time.

“Dear sister."

Anastasia averted her gaze to the floor at the sound of Wulfric's voice. Her pupils dilated, and she felt herself slightly tremble as he questioned her the deadly question. She could not bring herself to answer in time. Instead, Mayet started talking, and she sounded really angry. It made her even more nervous. That feeling of perceived rejection was one that could feel like a knife stab. Things took an even worse turn when Callum tried to martyr himself before she could.

I have to say something now. I know mother would never let anything happen to Callum, but he will make me sound less believable. What do I say? How can I fix this? The pressure worsened as Leo brought up Kazumin. Her heart sank, and she felt dizzy. I remember he got in the carriage with us. Did he get hurt too? I don't remember what happened to him… She clutched her head briefly. What have I done?

Another was quick to speak. Farim from the Alidasht was thankfully trying to spare Darryn's life. It became soon clear that he and the Sultan wanted him questioned and she now needed to take the heat off Darryn. She knew Darryn would tiptoe around ratting her out, both because he was kind and because blaming a royal was suicide. Lady Zarai stood up for Darryn too, approaching her mother and father without fear. However, this did not surprise Anastasia as Zarai had always been someone who inspired her. After a moment, Anastasia stepped forward and first turned to the Sultan, ignoring her parents as they were addressing Zarai.

"I'm the one who led everyone to the party." The Sultan seemed to have a neutral gaze upon her as she addressed him. "...I know I am probably making the story more confusing since my brother just took the blame, so, um, you may think I'm covering for him... But everyone here can tell you I am the one that came to their rooms and then led them to the party." She looked at Zarai, her voice shaking, "Right Lady Zarai? R-Remember how I took you guys to Callum's room to get him to come too? " Then she finally glanced at the rest of the room, her eyes moving from Mayet, to Nahir, to Leo, to Roman. Her mouth felt dry. "I told them to meet me at the stables where they saw me get Darryn to drive us on a carriage. You may think I'm lying, but they all can tell you this is true. It was me singlehandedly. I took them to a location on an invitation. I receive it every few weeks, and it's usually under a warehouse or somewhere random. I'm good friends with the person who holds the event."

"Anastasia..."

She was surprised it had taken until that point for her mother to interrupt. Anastasia looked over her shoulder to see the heated gaze of her mother and father. She wasn't sure what to expect them to say or think, but she felt cornered by their angered faces. Was this it? Was this the moment she feared? …The very moment she feared from a child up... This was the moment they'd cast her out. A rush of emotion and anxiety made her feel defensive and the stress leaked into her tone as she rambled on without thought, "But in the end, they chose to come. Because it's like you said, we're all adults. So nobody here has a right to cage us. Maybe if your stupid balls weren't so boring, we wouldn't look for somewhere else! A-And we have a right to! You can't tell us what to do anymore; we're grown up, and we can decide for ourselves what's worth the risk..."There was something about an awkward silence when one was spilling out something controversial that was deafening. She nervously looked around, unable to stop speaking.

"I know none of us knew something that bad would happen, and I admit this situation wouldn't have happened if it weren't for me, but-..."If they wanted the truth, she'd give it to them. It's not like it mattered what she did anymore. "But I think it's ridiculous if you expect us to feel bad we didn't ask permission from you to go. They can all do what they want, and it's twisted to throw Darryn under the wagon to cover for me. If you need someone to blame to keep things peaceful or whatever, let's at least be honest like the Sultan said. I did this-"

"Just tell us who threw the party, Anastasia." The queen's voice cut through hers like a knife.

Anastasia's breath caught momentarily as she realized the gravity of her next answer. It felt as if a spotlight was on her. Finally, she firmly replied. Anger she had boiling under the surface for years made its way into her tone as she told her lowly, "I will never tell any of you their name. " After a careful exhale, she pressed on, "I refuse to let you kill innocent people because you don’t care to investigate."

The Sultan was silent as he had listened to the infamous Queen Alibeth at work. She seemed to know all the right words to say, perhaps much better than her husband could. However, he was no fool. No amount of offerings or charismatic words would fill in the missing blanks of the story. Raif was here with the sole purpose of understanding what happened last night; the rest of it was all irrelevant. He folded his arms as if he were being shown the most predictable of plays. That was until a young man in terrible shape was dragged out. He eyed him up and down with disinterest. A scapegoat. But for whom? Alibeth was clearly quick on her feet and sharp... Had she not realized he had seen this tactic many times before? It was probable she could infer he would realize and had not had time to concoct anything else.

How peculiar the Caesonians are. Pretty clothes and pretty words but never an explanation for their actions.

Raif Kadir had been a sultan for many years now, one who had heard excuses and pleas time and time again. The truth was always between the lines and within the body language of the guilty. If they refused to tell the truth, then he'd find it out for himself. That is why he decided not to even bother conversing until necessary as he observed every move and every word.

The eldest son Wulfric had turned on his own siblings for information. His posture changed as he straightened up. This was the one Mayet was fond of after all. It seemed the younger pair of royals were expected to know who was behind the party. From what he gathered from his children, no one had remembered anything from last night. Was it possible these two remembered? Why would they remember and not his own children? His offspring knew better than to get so intoxicated in a place unfamiliar to them. He let his gaze narrow as displeasure crossed his expression.

His vivacious Mayet, unsurprisingly, was also displeased. She spoke up lowly but her tone was that of a viper all the same. He made a gesture towards her to calm down, placing his palms toward the ground and waving them. His gaze was gentle and understanding as he could not chastise her for her anger. She was making quite some fair points that needed addressing.

"You will be allowed to come and go as you please under your father's blessing. We have no wish to imprison you, Mayet. My idea was to monitor and make sure you are leaving with proper protection."

The Sultan had no issue with the queen's initial reply but they needed the story here. She looked as if she was going to say more but then the young Prince with the dark hair spoke up, taking ownership of the ordeal in a story that still did not add up. To a face never seen and an unknown location. "You take invitations...from a stranger and go to the random location and never find out whose event it is...? Then you had your sister..." His gaze moved to the Princess. She seemed... He raised a brow thoughtfully. He looked over to Mayet again, "Is his story true? He led you to this party?"

Farim's voice filled the room, attempting to smooth everything over, which Raif was grateful for. He had no wish to make this dramatic and put anyone's life at stake unnecessarily. It was preposterous that it was such an ordeal to have the truth be told.
However, the possible dangers could not be downplayed just to keep everything smooth sailing. At this point, he was wondering if someone was trying to create discord between their kingdoms by setting up such strange mishaps. Nonetheless, he let the boy say his piece. His words were respectable enough until Farim turned on him and dared to bring up Esrin as a means to pull some sympathy for the stable boy.

The Duchess had stood at her son's side, glancing at him whenever the queen was not speaking; however, he would not raise his head, so she could not quite catch his gaze. While Valerie was off trying to locate Thea, she followed Leo to the hall. She had expected Thea to be caught up in a mess like this... But Leo? The son she raised to put their family and reputation before all? She furrowed her brows as the scene played before her. Queen Alibeth was by no means a kill-happy woman. She would kill if it came to it without remorse, but never needlessly. For her to offer up the young stable boy to slaughter, what had occurred last night had to have been far worse than she could ever imagine.

Still, she had her theory here. She had been in the noble circle since birth, and the Caesonia Queen was only this cutthroat when her precious children were involved. Luckily for her, she supposed the Sultan would not be able to catch on to that. This boy was being thrown under the wagon to cover up her children's mistakes. But which one? As if on cue, Prince Callum moved forward and started taking the blame for everything, but the expressions of others, including that of her own son, told her this wasn't the truth. Prince Wulfric certainly would not be the culprit. The polite Prince Auguste was ever absent, which could be suspicious indeed. However, the sight of Princess Anastasia rubbing her arm nervously, her eyes that of a frightened deer, told the whole story. The girl lacked a poker face and would most certainly become the forefront of the conversation soon enough. Meanwhile, the daughter of the Sultan was clearly livid, and the Sultan himself did not look all too happy either. If they weren't careful here, the war would not be out of the question between the Alidasht and Caesonian Kingdoms.

Alice exhaled softly with short-lived sympathy. Her main focus was Leo here, who she had not even been able to speak to yet about this matter. Her breath nearly caught in her breath when he spoke up. Her head snapped in his direction, and she looked at him questioningly, still trying to catch his gaze. "Leo." She leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Stay out of this matter. It's worse than you think."

Another gentleman from the Alidasht spoke up and introduced himself as Farim, then attempted to calm down Shehzadi Mayet and the sultan as well. Alice was also interested in hearing from the stable boy, but she knew he would possibly not speak if it meant implicating the princess or princes. Lady Zarai then moved forward, calling for them to reconsider and spare the stable boy. She shook her head at her as she spoke. She could respect that Zarai had a kind heart as always, but she was not reading this situation well enough. With tensions this high, the Varian Kingdom had no business intervening.

Vincent's Self Defense Training

@Timemaster

Vincent's eyes widened immediately as the woman's lips met his and his gaze moved about immediately. Vincent had grown up on the streets and his impulse was to go on the defensive. The glint of metal sparkled in the sunlight, and he grabbed her wrist before it could reach his neck, though she did manage a drop of blood anyway. "Very cute."He mimicked her as he tossed her grip aside and attempted to flip her down onto her back. "But not cute enough. No weapons in a self-defense class. I did ask your permission madam. Attacking me with a dagger is an assault and I do not take kindly to those who break my rules. I want everyone to feel safe here, but! I apologize if I have not made you feel that way." There was no way the Great Vincent would be embarrassed in front of students! He had to remedy this.

His thick brows narrowed down as he pointed at her accusingly, "BUT! Since you seem to think you know better, I will ask you to leave. That is my mercy! You are banished from Vincent's Class!" He got into a defensive position, ready to fight if he had to.

Alibeth had nodded curtly to Wulfric. Her gaze moved to Callum, and it did soften though she said nothing. In fact, she was silent, perhaps awkwardly so, until everyone was present in the room. "I expect looks of shame on your faces and the beginnings of apologies being crafted in your minds as you stand here." Alibeth started off with absolutely no greeting for the imbeciles before her.

She stepped forward as her eyes moved to the Sultan, "However, Your Majesty Sultan Raif Kadir, I owe you more than one apology for what's happened. I will be allocating more of our guards to be used at your disposal in your estate and preparing gifts to remedy the atmosphere. No one will be allowed to leave the castle late at night without approval again. Everything will change from here on. This apology extends to the other noble parents present who had to worry about the location of their children last night."

Her eyes flashed as she whirled back on the partygoers; however, she was not facing the Sultan's children. Her gaze moved from Anastasia to Callum, Zarai, Roman, and then Leo. They all knew better. "You may want to protest and say to me now that you are not children. From where I stand, that does not appear so. As ladies and gentlemen of higher status, you know that a target is painted on your backs wherever you go. You put yourselves in danger without empathy towards your families or yourselves. " She lifted her chin to now look down on them with disdain, "You also had no empathy for the Alidasht offspring, who put their trust in you and had no inkling of where they would end up. I am immensely disappointed and, as I am certain, are your parents."

"Now, more importantly, I demand to know whose party this was. We know that they are a criminal attempting to lure in nobles. There will be a handsome reward for whoever confesses this." Alibeth moved forward and snapped her fingers, "However. I know you were all invited and led to the party by someone." Her gaze did not fall on anyone, and she simply folded her hands neatly as the brown-haired stable boy was dragged in by guards, his face bruised and his body limp. His shirt was ripped and if one looked closely, his back was scarred. Before anyone could react, there was then a sudden interruption. The huge door swung open loudly.

"On behalf of!"

King Edin's voice rang through the entrance hall. He leaned on his knees to huff. "On behalf of Prince Cal-"His head rose, and he met Alibeth's eyes. After sensing her displeasure in his sentence, he halted his words, simply straightening and walking to her side. "Did Callum apologize yet?"He whispered in her ear.

Alibeth forced her husband a smile and merely continued, "This is Darryn Fletcher. He is the stable boy who drove the carriage to the party. Today, he will die for his crime."
