Got my new sci-fi mecha RP up. Put a lot of work into the background of this one, and wrote out a whole setting

Cambozola is definitely A-Tier. It combines all the best parts of Brie with Blue Cheese, what's not to like.

Guess the mecha RP idea wasn't as popular or as interesting as I hoped it might be. Not much in the way of bites on that one so far, sadly

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom.
I have a lot of fandoms, but I don't really like fandom RP's - or at least, the ones that come up. I often find them a bit lacking in ideas, or too far away from what actually makes the thing I'm a fan of enjoyable.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones. I dig giant robots, and I love military aircraft. I'm also a very dedicated and proud Brony and furry.

This sounds super awesome, I'd love to join!

And it's super awesome of you to say that! It'd be cool to have you aboard :D
That thread from a couple days ago got you thinking, huh?

I'd been considering it for a while before that, and it kind of tipped me over the edge, combined with returning to my roots and watching a lot of mecha anime lately, which kind of inspired some of the ideas for changes.

Depending on time I would love to be a part of this again.

And if you have time, I would love to have you again! Who am I to refuse the king of the ferrets.
Yeah, I'm hoping we see some old faces, as well as some new ones. It'd be good to have a mix of both.
Really eager that it gets off the ground, as I have a lot of ideas for it too.

GEARs is a mecha-based, anthro RPG with heavy sci-fi elements and a rich, detailed background.
I originally created it several years ago, and it went through several iterations, though eventually died for good after I lost the resolve to restart it yet another time after numerous people dropping out.

I have decided to resurrect it again, as I have the desire to run a mecha-based RPG that draws heavily on my interests in mecha anime, sci-fi and anthropomorphic characters.

GEARs is set in a far-off world in an unknown time, and follows a race on the world of Arvara as they spiral into a dangerous world of impending warfare and violence. Among all the animal-like people of this world exists the knowledge that their species is created, but not the knowledge to the questions of why, who did it, for what purpose, and what happened to their creators.
The development of their technologically sophisticated species has obviously been influenced by these creators. The differing reactions to the knowledge of their creation has set in motion a brewing storm of conflicting ideals, goals, and beliefs in how to react, and as such the world of Arvara stands on the precipice of war.

The main weapons in this war will be GEARs, armed robots used as fighting machines alongside more conventional weapons and equipment, on all sides of the battle.
The player characters will take on the roles of pilots in a new unit belonging to a coalition of nations. Their unit pilots the newly-produced transformable VG-0 V-GEAR (much like the Variable Fighters of macross in role and operation), and carry out Special Operations in support of the goal of avoiding the war, or ending it before it begins - as well as dealing with other brewing, and more nebulous, sinister and mysterious problems going on across Arvara.

Naturally their squadron will - as is the nature of such things - find themselves at the hub of unfolding events, and it could ultimately be their choices and beliefs that end up determining the course of fate for all Arvarans...

I am ideally looking for up to six players, and no less than three. Anyone who has played before is welcome to come back; though do be warned: it isn't the same game as before, which I know will turn people off.

I'm also not looking to run a deeply grim, gritty and massively realistic game; there will be some level of reality to the events and technology in the setting, and much of it is based in realistic concepts and terms, but I am adamant that no nit-picking of the technology of the setting be the focus. The story, plot, and journey of adventure come first.
Sounds like it has some potential and could be interesting, I'd be willing to give it a shot.
I haven't read or watched the Hunger Games, but I've seen numerous other things based around the same kind of concept (The Running Man and Gamer leap to mind, among others). Sounds like it could be exciting and have some good depth.
Hell yes. That show was one of the best things of my teenage years, and it stands up even now.
That Mecha RP also sounds like it was awesome. Did it ever conclude?

Unfortunately not; it went through several iterations. Mostly they failed due to lack of posts, because people kept dropping out before the plot really got a chance to get off the ground. In one case everyone stopped posting just as things were about to get interesting which was massively frustrating, and in another I just gave up because I was burned out on the game universe and trying to build up some momentum... aaaand people kept dropping out.
Again.
It just got so tiring that I got fed up of trying.

Also most of those settings sounds pretty good to me for an RPG, and I'll be interested to see what you come up with.
Ryan accepted the jacket passed to him with interest. He turned it over in his hands, turning it around and holding it at a distance to admire the embroidered squadron insignia on the back. The material felt good quality between his fingers, shiny and smooth. It was too hot in the hangar to wear the heavy bomber-style jacket, but he tucked it onto his lap and nodded in appreciation towards McKnight with a grin.
"Stylish and good quality? You're spoiling us, boss. I'll be sure to do my best to live up to it," he added sincerely, the grin turning to a firm-lipped smile.
The conversation moved on to coffee, and he raised an eyebrow.
"Never had much of a taste for it," he acknowledged with a shrug. "It's all brown muddy caffeine to me," he added. "Guess that probably makes me some kind of savage or something though, by the sound of the rest of you. Oh, and it's got to be Mars, right? I mean, there's not much else out there to see right now..." he grinned and a sparkle gleamed in his eyes. "...Unless someone's holding out on a secret base or the previous owners of the ship, of course". He tapped the deck plating with the toes of one boot for emphasis and winked.
I think it could be fun, there was an old rp on here way back when on the old site that had anthro characters. It was a mecha battle type setting, it was pretty cool.

You're thinking of GEARS, by @Silverwind Blade. One of my favorite RPs that carried over from OldGuild.

Eeyup, that was GEARs, my RPG. I had a very detailed setting for it, with it's own world and history, and logical (enough, anyway), progressions of the settings' technology and society as it relates to the world.

I am vaguely thinking of doing something with it again, but it depends on time and some other things. I'd want to retool it a bit if I did.

I'd potentially be interested in an anthro RPG if it was something interesting like sci-fi or there was some driving storyline behind it, other than a slice-of-life RP where the people do normal things EXCEPT THEY'RE ANIMALS, or something like that.
And dear god, if it's a high-school setting, I could not be less interested if I tried xD

"I'm thinking of meeting up with ya. Give ya an escort in anyway seeing as I'll be your guardian. Over"

Scott grinned at the casual tone of his newly-assigned wingman. "Nice to have a helpful eye in the sky," he replied in the same playful tone she'd adopted. Her gave her his heading and co-ordinates, descending to be below the thick cloud layer as he closed in on the floodplains where the battle was taking place. Keeping a steady cruising speed, they'd be there in only a handful of minutes. He scanned around the skies, hoping to catch sight of Ericsson as she closed in for the rendezvous. He was curious about what she was flying, and anxious to get on with the mission; every minute they were delayed was one the people on the ground had to hold out for, and he didn't want to let his allies down. People dying because of him just didn't sit right, even if it couldn't be avoided.
He kept the A-10 straight and steady, frowning out at the thick, steel-grey cloud forming a canopy overhead. Vague white flurries danced past the canopy; the snow had started to fall.
