@SilverPaw I can definitely see that, though I'd expect the characters to largely remain off screen.
@Stern Algorithm Good
@AtomicNut Eh, maybe it's part of the reason they are chosen? Their inability to manage themselves?
Was everyone 10 in the original party? Anyways ...

@Pyromania99 Womanizing rich spoiled bard girl: GOOD.

Maoin stared at Lady Lightsword, her mouth dropping a bit. Only themselves to blame? She didn't ask to get up early! As the knightess continued, Maoin listened to the details, mouth a little dropped at the sheer absurdity of the situation.

She respected Lady Luna, sure, but she wasn't her mistress. And if Lady Sorcha hadn't decided to fly out the window after lecturing her, the cat would have likely just told the knightess to shove it and gone back to sleep.

Still though, the cat wasn't too happy. Lady Sorcha wanted her to think for herself? Fine. "Depend on eachother? Lady Lightsword, if I may," Maoin cleared her throat a bit. "I cook your meals, take care of the house, do the laundry - Lady Luna, I wash your dirty panties ... which you could use some serious help in selecting, given that they have the sex appeal of an amputated horse." Maoin put a hand against her chest, exasperating that statement. "And talking about laundry, I still need to wash everything from the trip."

The cat let out a sigh though. Ultimately, Lady Sorcha was angry with her. Maoin's ears fell, folding just slightly. The kitten's gaze became a bit less aggressive.

"... you might be my better, but you aren't my owner. But fine, I'll play your silly game anyways." Maoin intended for her voice to be a bit tougher and confident than it sounded.

It was rather obvious and apparent what the insane woman wanted them to do - run around the town together, or at least something of the sort. She could leave whenever she wanted, so the cat started to change - right in front of Lady Lightsword, throwing her new dress into the laundry and pulling out one of the dresses Lady Sorcha had already abused.

Maoin turned to Avaline. "Look, you liz-" The lizard did outrank her, as distasteful as that was to admit. "Miss Avaline, your master here just wants us to-" The kitten paused, cutting her explanation short. The lizard wouldn't be able to tell what she was talking about anyways. "- ... you know what? If you follow me around the town, and don't drift away from me, I'll cook you a nice, BIG, large breakfast!" The cat gestured with her hands, indicating the size. "Miss Avaline, if you're REALLY good, I'll even throw some candy in!" The cat was smiling, although Lady Luna would probably be able to tell it was the polite smile of a shopkeeper dealing with a difficult customer rather than the genuine smile one gave to a friend.

Maoin opened the door, waiting for Avaline to follow her out if there were no objections.
@AtomicNut It's fine the way it is - Unless you'd like to change it for yourself.
@AtomicNut Good! Depressive Alcoholism incarnate 1!
@Rune_Alchemist Good! Corporate Slave 1!
@AtomicNut I mean, it is. Or are you implying it possibly doesn't exist? 0.o

@Burning Kitty I think it's more important to understand the general basics than any specific plot - i.e. transformations, Power of Friendship©, and general overall themes of the genre. As for boys becoming girls, the idea is the plot (the regular story) has already happened 18ish years ago - and it was supposed to be a pretty normal, mundane, expected one for those who are genre savvy (although obviously fantastical for any normal people at the time). If they would have transformed from a boy to a girl, they would be used to it by now. I don't think it'd be as interesting of a plot device, but you can try and convince me.

@SilverPaw Hope classes don't get too bad, but stay on board while you can! Anyways, an alcholic is the sort of thing I'm looking for - especially if it's starting to get into the life ruining category.

@PaulHaynek Not yet, but maybe in the future.

Alright, so some things to clarify for those with interest. These are up for discussion, but it's just to give you an idea of what I'm thinking.

-As they've already defeated a great evil in the past and had their failures and triumphs, we will refer to their original adventure as ... the original adventure. The original adventure occurred 20 years ago - so if your character was 13 for the original adventure, they would now be 33.
-The 'Anime' of the original adventure is closer to Tokyo Mew Mew or Sailor Moon than Madoka Magica in tone. So while your powers may have drawbacks, it should be something that would be brought up in one of those animes (although now the price may appear much higher than before). Also, the powers themselves should generally have the ability to be pretty, as according to those shows. So for example, someone who derives power from stabbing themselves repeatedly and using their blood to attack a foe would not be something I'm looking for.
-This will be taking place on an American West Coast City with a lot of immigrants so you can easily play a character who is(was?) an immigrant earlier in life. As a whole, the setting is going to accommodate the characters rather than the other way around, so I think it's more important to get the characters in first. It's one of the reasons the OP doesn't have too much detail.
-Your character has lived a life by the time they are in their 30s. A few good, and probably some bad things have happened to them. Here is some food for thought.
  • 60% of American Women are married by 30. A survey from huffingtonpost (obviously not perfect) shows that only 28.9% are childfree.
  • What Vices do they have? This is where the more serious part of the RP comes in - a lot of people have problems with drugs or drink or simply keeping their lives on track. Or maybe your character is relatively successful, but is now part of a Super Evangelical family that acts in a stereotypical manner.
  • They are probably cringing at their former selves - I cringe at my 13 year old self, and I'm only 22.
  • They have probably grown apart from a lot of their former teammates, and fought (emotionally) at least once with each of them. They might have some of the same flaws, but they are probably toned down a bit.
  • Your character probably has started their career, if their life isn't so ruined that they can't get into one (or if they are stay-at-home or similiar)

So here's what I want from you guys:

-Ideas for the Team Name. We'll vote on it, so have some fun with this one! If anyone has some basic ideas for the original adventures, propose them!
-Before any formal character sheet, give me your 1 paragraph character pitch. (Their power and team role [tank, support, fighter, ect.], their childhood/personality during the original adventure, a couple major life events, and where they are now, major vices, ect.). I'd prefer not to do full CSs because this gives us time to adjust to eachother and make sure the team is balanced personality/power wise ect.
-After the character pitches are in (hopefully in the next 48 hours) we'll each describe how we think our characters will relate to each other- probably how they were before, one major conflict (even if they've 'gotten over it'), and where they are now. Very few relationships go on for 20 years without any sort of issue, and many of them simply grow apart.

Get going! I'll try and fill whatever roles seem unused.
@SilverPaw I didnt' want to throw too much more in yet - just wanted to see if people would be up for the general idea more than anything else. I've never seen an anime with the magicial girls actually being adults, so I'm curious to see what sort of interest there would be before I come up with more.
"Petal FINAL BANISHMENT!"

The thirteen year old girl spun in a circle, her skirt flickering in the wind as her teammates surrounded her, joining their powers together in a final, cataclysmic moment. Their staffs, swords, wands, and other magical implements touched together as their power cojoined - their previous conflicts forgotten as their realization that they must work together to defeat thier foes physically manifesting as a great, magical power! Spirals of green and blue circled around their foe, containing him.

The ghost let out a screech as the girls, together, finished banishing it with the Power of Friendship©. The city was saved!

It was over, but the girls looked at eachother. "Friends forever, yeah?" They all nodded and cheered eachother on, smiling. The futures for them would be bright and wonderful!

At least if Nusami hadn't gotten knocked up at sixteen. Dropping out of school to take care of her child, all the previous grandeur from being a hero hadn't helped her out. The town didn't know their identities - their alternate costumes hid that clearly, so no one was going to help her. At twenty when she finally wanted to move away to find better prospects, she found herself unable to leave. The Power of Friendship© stopped her, after all. They had sworn they would be friends forever, and now their words would force them to be. It didn't matter that at 25 one of them married an abusive millionaire, or that another had become an ex-convict, or that she was working at a fast food chain at 32 because she didn't have a highschool diploma. They were all TOGETHER after all, and isn't that what mattered?

Essentially the idea is that magical girls - like those from Madoka Magica, Tokyo Mew Mew, ect. are now grown up. Their powers haven't disapeared though, they've grown older, and their costumes and abilities are as cringe as they've always been - how did they decide on those getups before?!

A new evil is rising, and the group finds themselves once again forced to use the Power of Friendship© to defeat it! The only problem is, they have lives of their own, they aren't really friends, and the Power of Friendship© forces them to remain in the city (or at least not leave for overly long periods of time)!

I would prefer characters who have actually lived lives - and had/made a few bad (and good) things happen. By the time someone is in their 30s they probably don't have a perfect track record. I expect this to be a good blend of situational humor, slight darkness, and a little bit of seriousness.

Any takers?

NOTE: The backgrounds given were just examples. Undoubtedly some of the magical girls grew up to be largely normal functioning adults.

The cat frowned slightly as Lady Luna berated her mistress, but lowered her head a bit submissively as the knightess did point out truthfully that Avaline outranked her. In truth though, her belief in social standings mattered less than the loyalties of her mistress, a mistress who clearly did not appreciate the lizard.

The dragoness seeemed to be a bit upset with her too - use her head? To be completely honest, she also didn't appreciate Avaline because the girl was messy in general and made more work for her, but she'd wait to confront that issue after she had sobered up a bit, and instead began to prepare herself for bed and promptly fall asleep. She didn't really want to deal with any of this right now, and she was a tired kitten anyways.

... The frightened kitten nearly hit the ceiling after the first loud and cacophonous crash echoed through the room - if Lady Sorcha was concerned about dislodging the cat she was sorely mistaken - the cat's tail shot straight out as she landed on the bed kneeling, eyes shut tightly as she ineffectively tried to force the painful, high pitched sound out of her sensitive ears by covering them with her hands as the rattle continued to thunder through her head.

Ouch ouch ouch ouch-

Eventually Maoin managed to collect herself enough verbal command out, though it possibly wouldn't be heard over the ding of the beaten pot. "S-Stop!"

The cat opened her eyes as the ringing slowed down, finally opening her eyes again to see that it was Lady Lightsword holding the pot in one hand and a spoon in the other. "Lady Luna - what the hell? That HURTS!" Once it was clear that the insane noblewoman was really and truly done with her instruments of torture, Maoin would finally remove her hands for her ears.

Maoin took a quick look outside to see that it was still entirely dark - none of them, even herself, should be up for the next few hours. "Have you gone MAD? It's at least two hours before I should be getting up!"
