So I have been on the Guild for a long, long, long, long, long, long, LONG time. I first joined the OldGuild around, my best guess would be 2012? I've been active in the Star Wars scene on the Guild since then, there have been very few games based around that genre that I haven't at least nosed my way in on. My very first game was a Star Wars game and that's what actually really got me into the Star Wars Franchise.

It's weird to think but I am such a major Star Wars nerd these days, yet before I was on the Guild I wasn't. I got into a Star Wars RP, got onto the Wikia, and then away I went into a spiral of nerd-om that I currently live within. I've grown since then, I game quite a bit, I write when I can. I have a wikia full of a lore to my own original creative universe and play around with some 'cool' comic book nerds.

Hi, @Sep, and Happy New Year's Eve everyone.

I was just reading through the posts that I missed about this new update and, if I'm being honest, I'm still very confused on the rules, requirements, and even the mechanics when it comes to NPCs. I've never seen it used before in the games that I've been a part of so this all very new to me and I'm mostly used to playing NPC canon characters in a way that others are free to play to as with all of the players just trusting each other that we'll be flexible, fair, and responsible with them so as to avoid god-modding and issues like that, and of course, consulting the GM and Co-GM(s) for approval too as we all normally do. I just find that it also helps reaching out to each other in PMs, and in the OOC too if there are no spoilers for future posts, to discuss what ideas we had in mind for these NPCs so we can all be on the same page and not be surprised when we see an NPC we wanted to have control of doing something that didn't align with our vision for them. I just find this approach much easier to do and keep up with, personally.

I also worry about the issue of not being able to keep track of who will have control over "X" or "Y" NPC since I saw you mentioned there was going to be a waiting period for them to be used again by someone else. I'm not sure if I understood that correctly though. And I think that could cause some issues because IC posts, as we all know, can fluctuate and there will be many times where players won't post for a long period of time and I worry that that will hold the RP back even more.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share my two cents here.

Just ignore all of the above. Aquaman and Flash will be NPCs in 7 days if nobody applies for them and we're not going to keep it as a mechanic beyond that
So what about if you’re using villains for your character that are traditionally levied against a different hero? Would you need a sheet for them, and/or approval from the parent PC (if there is one)?

How ‘big’ does a heroic character need to be before they pass that ‘NPC Sheet’ threshold?

Parent PC if there is one as is traditional in these games. If the villain is central to the plot of another character I'd ask for you to PM me first.

In terms of the other question I feel like I may have made things too confusing and as such I'll lock in Flash and Aquaman as NPCs and just ask that if you're ever unsure about using someone who isn't a legacy just to ask me, or us, here or in a PM.
But doesn't that restrict future players from applying for a big title character in a way that they want? If they come in after an NPC sheet was accepted, they'd have to conform to that sheet. If someone nine days from now wants to play Wally West as the Flash and as part of their backstory Barry Allen died in an incident decades ago, that would conflict with the already accepted NPC sheet of a modern-day Barry.

I get what the idea is behind this, I just personally see it bogging things down more than anything else. But that's just me.

I mean you're not entirely wrong, and I get it.

However, in this history of these games there has rarely been interest to make a sheet once the IC gets going (with the exception of people changing character) and if they are interested this is why I'm trying to strip them down to very very base bone concepts.

I just feel like in these games we often tie our own hands behind our backs for potentially cool stories and interactions for people that may not even join.

I'm also not intending this to become the norm or for lots of people to do this. There's every chance that Flash and Aquaman will be the only two NPCs in this category.

Again if people are against this idea, let me know.
I don't want to monopolize all the questions, so I'll leave it to others to chime in if they want.

Legacies just fall under the same rule as always, no sheet required

The seven days is only for the original poster of the sheet.

Again this is only for the likes of title characters, big names it isn't meant to make every single NPC a beauracacy. It's just meant to make some form of unity for any big NPCs.
I guess the further question on that is, if I get permission from a player to use their legacy as an NPC for a scene, do I need to also submit an MPC sheet?

EDIT: And this is only for heroic NPCs? Or do we have to submit villainous NPC sheets, too?

Mb beat me too it
Interesting.

But something that wasn't explained: does this mean we can't use NPCs unless approved? Like, if I want Static to interact with Flash as an NPC, I need to wait a week for approval? So, basically, the only NPCs we can interact with freely are ones that fall under the banner of character legacies?

If they're a title character in this instance, I wanna say yes. We always tend to shy away from characters in these games that fit the setting, just because they don't have a player. If you had an idea for the Flash that you were going with before, hit me up - obviously once an NPC sheet is accepted they are free to be used by anyone (If the NPC is accepted you don't need to post a new sheet and wait seven days).

Villains tend to be a lot more fluid than the hero PoVs. The addition to making a NPC sheet allows us as a playerbase create a rough vision for a character that fits the theme of the game in a way that works for everyone (If anyone has notes on Aquaman and Flash feel free to comment) meaning we can interact with them. To pick on @Lord Wraith again, maybe a Thangarian Party lands on a small isolated island and it would enhance his story to have Aquaman in it, with there being a sheet he can have more than a bland interaction with him without worrying about ruining things for a player later, since we've a little lore already established on him.

I think I've explained it right. If not @Lord Wraith will set me right.

Opposition:

If a whole load of you oppose this idea I'm happy to reconsider. I'm just trying something different that would allow us to add more life to the world, without ruining fun for potential future people.
Introducing: NPC sheets. NPC sheets are a way to set up some very basic, very limited lore for characters in a way that will still allow us to interact with them without a player, but not fleshing them out fully in a way that it might put people off.

Any and all interactions with these NPCs will be catalogued and summarised if a player ever becomes interested. I feel its a way to flesh out the world without allowing for secondary characters.

Three important things to note:

1) NPCs like this can be used by anyone without needing approval from the person who makes the sheet or a GM.

2) This is not a PC. Anytime you are using one of these characters it must somehow relate/come back to your PC. If @Lord Wraith is using Doctor Fate he can't go on about the blockade of magic and the subsequent politics in the senate and the Chancellor of Magic unless it somehow relates to Hawkman.

3) NPC sheets have a week until acceptance to give prospective players plenty of time to apply. Players always take priority over NPCs. Should a player step forward they can take over an NPC at a later date.

legacy characters are still the 'property' of their parent character. I.e. if you want to use Nightwing you need to speak to @Master Bruce

Any questions on this mechanic?
