Natalie got a bad feeling when she saw the man she's tried to kill, and the man whose life she saved by stopping Archie, huddle with several other large men, and whisper something. Natalie used to be in an amateur gang. She knew what this was. They couldn't cause a scene by dragging her out by her hair. One of them was now going to approach her alone and spin some bullshit. Natalie knew this because that job usually went to her, as the prettiest and least imposing, if possibly the worst actor at the time.

When one did approach her, and it was him of all people, she contemplated raising some kind of alarm, but decided not to. Why didn't she? It was either professional courtesy as a former gang member herself, or a strong desire not to get involved with the police lest she get found out. Instead, she decided to play along. When this man went down the 'hitting on her' route (of all the angles to play!) she resisted the strong urge to look disgusted, and made herself flush bashfully a little by thinking of Archie.

"Welcome to Freckles'. Can I take your order, please?" she replied, not exactly shooting him down, but changing the subject. If last night hadn't happened, this is what she would have done anyway, even if she was interested. Now he was actually placing an order, with a twenty frickles coupon, and two originals. Natalie processed the order, and printed off the receipt.

"Your order is number 406. And, uh, I finish in twenty minutes. Why do you ask?" she responded, with just the right amount of wide-eyed naivety that for a second he could believe that she was legitimately interested. But there was something in the way that she looked at him that suggested she knew as well as he did that this was a farce, and that she remembered the last time they met. She just didn't want to cause a ruckus.

Natalie's day at work had been as busy and hectic as she'd feared. There was a massive lunchtime rush. The customers were impatient and rude. It was a warzone. Thankfully after 2pm, it calmed down to a regular, ordinary, manageable pace, and Natalie had time to think about things. She would very much like to see more of Archie, and not just hookups. Though was he too old for dates? She wanted to talk to him more, get drunk with him more, open up to him more. It wasn't love. At least not yet. But there was something. She felt comfortable around somebody with a secret like hers, and issues like hers. She was actually looking forward to unpacking two years of keeping everything secret with him. She could ask him about the whole lizard thing too. Was he born that way, or was he also a victim of H.A.T.?

She had to stop dwelling on Archie, however, when she was thinking back to last night, began to blush, and noticed that the handle of the knife she was using now had imprints of her fingers from where she was squeezing it, and was cracked. Dammit. she hadn't caused an accident as a result of accidental super strength for over a year! She suddenly felt ashamed of herself for losing control at work, and became terrified that anybody saw her, or would find the knife and ask questions. So when nobody was looking, she turned her back to the customer area, rolled the knife into a ball, and put it in the trash.

Mind free of everything except the task in hand, she carried on working until it was her shift at the cash registers and taking people's orders. Natalie used to hate this part of the job, but she's had over a year of practice getting that friendly and chill yet blatantly fake 'customer service' voice just right. It also didn't hurt that she was the exact right level of pretty that she'd never get asked out or harassed, but she'd often catch men staring at her, or a shy teenager, to whom she would be above his station, feeling intimidated by her. She didn't hate those moments.

It was in the late afternoon, less than an hour before she finished today's shift, that she saw a group of men come in. Before she could greet them, she recognised one of them and went cold. It was the man she had almost killed last night when she briefly lost control. She pulled her cap down to try to hide her face, which was quickly turning pale, in a effort of futility.

Archie and Natalie

Despite what he had said earlier, it did not take Archie very long to fall into his old habits of drinking the evening away. He had split off from the girls not long after the three entered to order himself a drink because he had decided that the stool was more comfortable than standing by a pool table or socializing. He was pretended to be interested in one of the TVs that was playing a sport of some kind. He didn't like sports and couldn't tell you the name of any of the players on any well-known team, but he needed a drink and knew from experience that people were less likely to talk to him if it looked like he was into something. He waved the bartender over and pushed his glass out.

"Another."

The bartender, a man this time as opposed to the normal woman- what was her name? Ella? Elsa? No, that was Frozen. Archie didn’t know, and he stopped caring when the barkeep pushed the refilled glass back before moving on to the other patrons. He stared down at the drink, swirling it around, watching as the ice cubes clinked together. He'd never been much of an liquor kind of guy until the past few months, but sometimes he needed something stronger and faster than beer.

Natalie had looked forward to coming here and seeing her roomate at work, but on learning that Ellara had left in a strange manner, she made a mental note to try and catch her and talk to her about it tomorrow morning. At least there was Nicole, who Natalie had tried and failed to make small talk with, and Archie, who was in the corner, drinking at watching the TV. Natalie furrowed her brow and approached him.

”Don’t tell me you’re planning to spend the whole night alone, drinking in the corner and watching sports. Coming here in a group was your idea.”

Archie looked over at Nat and smirked. “Sometimes you just gotta.” he replied easily. He patted the stool next to him, urging Natalie to sit. Archie could feel the numbing effect of the alcohol cloud his mind. It was one of the best feelings in the world. His thoughts receded into the depths of his mind and he let his mind go blank. But then, out of nowhere, a thought forced its way out. It was a deep-rooted fear of his that he never really allowed himself to think about because Archie Malcom Anderson refused to admit he was afraid. The mixture he was drinking thought otherwise, though. Nat sighed, and took the seat besides Archie. She stared at his drink with something that almost looked like jealousy. ”I used to love a drink, but ever since...I got my powers, I’ve been too scared to. I’m terrified of losing any control over myself, like you almost saw me do in that house. Stone cold sober for over two years now. It sucks...” she chuckled, as she stared down. So long, she’d spent keeping everything a secret. It felt so good to have met somebody who she could actually talk about her life to, who would believe her, and who wouldn’t call the police.

"Do you ever wonder if there's any point to it all, then?"

It was a vague question, but Archie knew that Natalie would understand what he meant. He waited for an answer. Out of anyone, they stood the best chance of making themselves feel better – She'd probably give him some philosophical answer that would help make their existence make sense.

"I just don't understand it sometimes – the constant control and struggling and for what? To not be you?"

He was drunk, and he knew it. But he didn't care.

"I get that you're worried about it, but what happened in the house happened when you were sober. If you want to drink, have a drink. Might help you loosen up.” Archie looked down the bar and raised his hand. “Paddy, can I get another one of these?” He said, lazily motioning to his currently unfinished concocktion. “For the lady.”

Paddy, seeing that Archie wasn’t alone for once, got to work in helping the regular out. To him, it seemed like both man and woman needed it. After a few moments of making another vodka based mixed drink, he walked over and placed it in front of Archie, who then pushed it in front of Natalie.

“If you want it, it’s on me. If not, I’m sure I’ll get to it eventually.” he grumbled, taking a sip of his own drink, not even wincing slightly at its bite. He returned his attention to the TV, letting Natalie mull the decision over.

Natalie was silent for this whole affair, mulling over Archie’s words and processing them, while staring at the drink in front of her. He was right in that she had never drunk since Project Lion, and had still lost control several times, even if, before last night, she’d had over a year with no incidents. Thinking back to all those times, it was violence and confrontation that had caused her to snap. Was sobriety really helping her? Or was this whole thought chain just her giving in and trying to justify it? She wanted this drink, she really did. She wanted to let go and loosen up so badly. Archie was right again. It was true, she had turned her life of crime around with her new lifestyle, but was it too clean? She had no friends, never had real fun, never let loose. Sure, she enjoyed painting and playing the piano, but when was the last time, before today, that she laughed?

”Screw it!” she abruptly exclaimed, before grabbing the glass, and downing the whole drink in one breath. 0 days since her last drink, and it felt so liberating! A wide, beaming smile broke out on her face as she sighed with relief.

”Paddy, can I get another one of whatever that was?” she asked the barman.

Archie jumped at Natalie’s exclamation, turning his head quickly to the suddenly much more giddy woman and the much more empty drink. “Woah, woah, woah. Where’s the fire?” He said, meeting her gaze once again. “Tryn’a get drunk or enjoy it? Have you had anything to eat recently?”

He probably wasn’t helping a ton, considering he had just encouraged her to live a little, but he didn’t want her to go crazy in case something bad did happen. “Easy there.” He said, placing his hand on her shoulder and giving her a smile for her benefit. “With the amount you just drank you’ll feel it in no time. No need to rush.”

Natalie gave a low sheepish chuckle, and looked away. ”Sorry. The last time I drank, I was twenty four, and I was in a gang. It got wild. You might need to teach me how to drink like an actual adult with a job. And the last time I ate was at work. It was a Freckles’ big box meal. That would have been about six.” She wiped her mouth and when her new drink came, she eyed it but didn’t drink it just yet.

Archie raised an eyebrow are her comment about the gang, but his better judgement won out despite the liquor in his system and he did not press her for more information. “Okay, step one of drinking like an adult with a job- remember you have work in the morning.” He said, flashing her a goofy smile. “Not that I’m particularly good at adulting. Wish a job made the difference. All it means is a bigger house and more bathrooms to clean. Speaking of, where do you live?”

Natalie groaned, and immediately took a large sip when he reminded her that she had work tomorrow morning. ”Urgh. Don’t remind me. I’ve got the lunchtime shift tomorrow too. And I live up on Ruthven Heights. I rent and share a two bedroom apartment on Stoker Street. My housemate actually works at this bar, but I guess she isn’t here right now.”

Archie finally decided to pop a risque question. He’d been single for a while now. Couldn’t hurt. “Want me to walk you back then, before it gets too late?”

Natalie nodded, and downed her drink, before standing up, and following up with the telltale ‘I stood up too fast’ sway. She didn’t necessarily think that Archie was chatting her up, but she thought about it for the first time. He wasn’t bad-looking. Sure, he was clearly older than her, but age was just a number once you’re over 25.

”Sure, I’d like that. Thank you.” she grinned, without making eye contact.

In Archie’s mind, he was doing the right thing, but a small part of him was catching on to Natalie’s bashful behavior. Perhaps this was something they both needed. The better part of him was telling him to at least say goodbye to Nicole, but the rest of him was saying that it wasn’t important. At least not compared to the prospect of whatever this was turning out to be. He slid out of his chair and reached into his back pocket for his wallet, leaving Paddy a few bills and a tip for his services. “No time like the present.” he said offhandedly. He slid his arm around her shoulders to lead her towards the pub door. “Just lead the way.”

Archie woke up the following morning with no clothing and a feeling particularly sore- as if he had lost a fight. He groaned and turned over, only to be reminded that this was not his room, this was not his bed, and he was sharing it with someone. As the sleep fled from his eyes he was able to deduce why he felt like he’d been hit by a bus. Super strength. Probably should’ve seen that one coming. He looked over his side of the bed and sighed when he saw his pants. Putting those on would certainly make this less… awkward. His movements in bed must’ve woken Natalie, because he felt her shift in the bed beside him.

“Well, good morning.” he said, looking over his shoulder at her but turning away again in case she wasn’t comfortable with him seeing her body when her better judgement was in control.

Natalie jumped, and sat bolt upright in bed when she heard a man’s voice in her room. Her memory frantically scrambled to put together a recollection of last night’s events. When everything came back to her, the ‘deer-in-headlights’ look vanished from her eyes, and she leaned back against the pillows. She smiled at Archie, and blushed when she realised that all she was wearing were her vest top, and her socks.

”Morning,” she replied sleepily, not quite remembering how to do morning-after talk. Luckily, it didn’t seem Archie did either. Natalie wasn’t that drunk, so she remembered the events of the night in perfect clarity. Even the profuse apologizing afterwards, on her part. She might have gotten a bit too rough in the heat of the moment. Some memories, she wished she had been drunk enough to forget. At least she didn’t cry.

”What happened last night, I just wanna apologize again, if I hurt you. Also, do you know what time it is? Oh, I hope I haven’t overslept...”

Archie raised his eyebrows and checked his wrist out of habit, only to realize that he still did not have his watch on. He sighed, but with mirth and pinched the bridge of his nose out of embarrassment and then cast his eyes up to Natalie once again. “No need to apologize. Maybe again sometime.” He said. For once, he was pretty happy to be up for the day. Even that all too familiar heat in his chest didn’t so much as stir. “I suppose now’s as good as a time as any to greet the day.” he commented, sliding out of the bed and retrieving his shirt from last night. “You should probably take point- your roommate didn’t see us come in last night. Might’ve heard us though.”

The moment Archie had checked his empty wrist, Nat tried to hide a smile as she reached for the desk and checked her phone. Good. It was 8:20. She wouldn’t be late. Archie’s suggestion that maybe they could meet up again sometime froze Natalie in her tracks. The blush rapidly spread from her cheeks, across her face, and started to encroach upon her upper chest.

”Yeah, I...I wouldn’t say no. But maybe we should, I dunno, dinner and a movie next time. My number should be on my phone. Feel free to take it down. I need to get changed,” she replied quietly, before picking up her panties, putting them on while under the covers, and sliding out of bed. She went to her wardrobe and took out her work uniform; grey slacks, black belt, and the ‘iconic’ red, orange and yellow polo shirt and matching cap of Freckles’ staff. With a quick spray of deodorant, she quickly put on everything except the cap, then moved to her makeup table/computer desk/reading desk. After applying her makeup with a well-practiced efficiency, and finally looking presentable now there were no bags under her eyes, she stood up and headed for the door, slamming her cap on like it was any protection against having to explain herself to Ellara.

”Ready to face the music?” she asked back to Archie.

At first I thought 'Isn't that just Saki'?

Then I remembered Kisara from Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple.

"Unfortunately," answered Hitomi to Acion. "The way things are going, I don't think we're going to be hearing much talking things out."

And Hitomi was right, As Jett and Roy began fighting in earnest, fists flying at each other. Hitomi wanted to get involved, but the attacks were flying all over the place, and if she got too close, she was scared she'd get hit. She was almost locked in place, hypnotised by the sheer lack of finesse in this brutal, personal scrap. To call this a spar would be a gross insult to sparring. It wasn't until shots of light started getting fired from Roy's finger like Yusuke Urameshi, and hit the place where Acion was not too long ago, that Hitomi was snapped out of it. What if that had his Dulga, or Kaida, or Acion? Well, then, Hitomi would probably have gone in and butted some heads. She was currently repressing the urge to do just that.

"Oh, right, Teacher! Now seems like a very good time!" she exclaimed, before bolting out of the Training Room like, fittingly, a scared sheep. She had to find a teacher, but she wasn't sure where they would be. She wasn't sure where the staff offices were besides on the third floor, and that was too far. The front desk! That was much closer, and Ms. Mako is always there! The only time she's not is when she teaches classes, and she shouldn't have any right now.

Mako Akane

Mako watched Lysander pose and posture his way through a simple 'thank you'. Hmm, maybe he should tone it down. A bit of character is good, but it shouldn't grate after a while. There was a balance. Still, his sheer positivity was infectious, and her smile didn't get any smaller. "I'd rather you not try and take him again, at least not on your own. You could always have a friendly spar with him in the Training Room. That's actually within school rules. Because I'm not sure I can cover for you twice. As for 'making moves on the big boss', that's my job. Leave that to me. Go have fun. You're young. Go outside. As long as it doesn't break the rules this time, the world's your oyster!"

Once Lysander was gone, Mako started to whistle cheerfully as she carried on with her paperwork. However, this moment of peace didn't last, as Maeda Hitomi came running up to the front desk, calling out her name. Mako opened her eyes, and raised her eyebrow

"Oh?"

When Mako got to the Training Room, frantic sheep girl in tow, she saw a curious scene. Jetty and Kusayanagi-san were staring daggers into each other. Roy was aiming a bow made of light at Jett. Between the two boys was an exasperated Ms. Beaumont, and a tearful Yozakura-chan, who both appeared to be trying to stop the fight. Hitomi had roughly and quickly explained the basics, by shouting them so fast it sounded like one long word. Mako picked up enough to get the bare essentials, but this was even worse than she thought. Without wasting another second, she moved so fast that nobody noticed before she was standing right in front of Roy. She encased her hand in ice, and grabbed the arrow's point, causing it to dissipate.

"Yare yare," Mako chimed in her gleeful voice, but though she was smiling, her eyes were open, and they were very disappointed as they turned from Roy to Jett back to Roy.
Appearance:

Due to the nature of her death, her zombie form has much of her face and arms covered in bandages, with slight hints of severe burn scars creeping from under them.

Name: Osaki Reiko

Gender: Female

Age At Death: 23

Height: 5"3

Weight: 47 kg

Birthday: Febuary 4th

Special talent: Reiko has an amazing rock voice, and can play the electric guitar really well. She is no stranger to the stage and knows how to hype a crowd.

Likes: Rock music, performing, makeup, shopping

Dislikes: Dance choreography practice, anything that makes her think too hard, fire

Personality: Reiko is loud, flirtatious, attention-seeking and a bit of an airhead. In short, she's a Gyaru. There's no deeper meaning to her. She will accept her new position as an idol because she likes the cheering and adulation of the crowd. She likes showing off her voice, and her attention-grabbing stage presence. Reiko is a warm and kind person, if a little pushy and overbearing (Whatever you do, do not tell her you've never been to the mall before.) Cross her, however, a prepare to deal with the biggest, most foul-mouthed 'Mean Girl' you've ever seen.

Background: In high school, Reiko was a textbook Gyaru. She wasn't the biggest rock fan in the world, but her boyfriend made it his mission to get her into J-rock, and he succeeded, though it was hard work. He taught her how to play the guitar, and one day, overheard her singing in the shower. Her singing voice, applied to rock was something special. She was born to sing in a rock band. Her boyfriend put up some posters and before they knew it, they had a full band.

Cut to the year 2008. The band, called 'HANDBRAKE', were modestly successful, and had a solid and loyal fanbase, despite not being what you'd call famous. Not yet.

It was the August of that year. They were playing in a large indoor venue. It was one of the old fashioned buildings, made more of wood than of brick and mortar. At some point, due to an electrical mishap, the stage caught fire. The band were facing forward and were already warm, and the crowd thought it was part of the show. By the time, anybody noticed, it had spread too much to be put out. While the road crew and the rest of her band evacuated, Reiko stayed at the mic and helped direct the crowds to the exits, calming them down if there was ever risk of a stampede. She kept this up until the fire had spread to the exits. Reiko, and everybody else inside, were trapped. Reiko slung her guitar back over her shoulder, looked over the glum, scared crowd, and yelled out WHO WANTS TO HEAR ONE LAST SONG?!

When the rescue team arrived, there were no causalities in the audience, as the crowd had huddled at the stage, the safest point, and the fire did not burn them, nor did the smoke suffocate them, on account of the electric fans that Reiko had turned towards the crowd. There was only one casualty from the entire incident; Reiko herself.

It's not difficult for one to lose track of their surroundings. Distractions, crowded areas, or just losing any sanity the mind contains are ways to do it. Jason was in thought about such ordeals, alongside recent encounters with the staff members after they found out about several of the stolen chairs being his fault, and he was still trying to think of a better way to evade notice next time, mumbling quietly under his breath as his sneakers made their usual Tap against the floor. He was so wrapped up in his own thoughts that he didn't notice anyone else in the halls with him.

At least not until he collided with them.

"Oof!"

Heidi, on the other hand, was constantly, uncontrollably fully alert. It was a side-effect of her mutation she wasn't quite used to yet; noticing everything. Even when she tried to switch off or daydream, her brain registered everything that it was currently possible to see, touch, smell or taste.

But not to hear.

She was taken completely by surprise when Jason walked into the back of here, and couldn't help but let out a little yelp. Before she'd even fully turned round, her brain had run through all the probable scenarios that would lead to that sensation, and somebody bumping into her accidentally seemed the most likely, given her deafness. Most other common scenarios were disproved by little details, such as if some overbearingly clingy girl was being overbearing, surely they'd have embraced her. Or if it was a bully, they'd have pushed her, and there'd be a much smaller point of impact.

So she wasn't surprised to see somebody looking flustered and surprised. The old Heidi would have apologised now, for some reason, but the new Heidi saw absolutely no logic in that, and instead waited for Jason's apology. Then her soul caught up with her brain, realised how harsh that sounded, and decided to apologize anyway, for thinking such a thing more than for the actual bump.

"I'm sorry!"(edited)

"Sorry? Pretty sure I'm supposed to do that here." Jason's voice was currently flustered, though his posture said otherwise. "I wasn't lookin where I was goin, that's my fault, sorry about that." His right hand withdrew from his pocket and snaked into his hood, scratching the back of his head bashfully.

This girl, Heidi he believed her name was, at least that's what he'd seen on the student list, was one of the mutants without an ability that could be seen from what he'd heard. Fascinating.

His glaring red orbs ran up and down her in a quick fashion, quickly coming to the conclusion that she was both pretty, and probably wouldn't enjoy him staring at her like a weirdo for to long. His eyes moved away from her to the wall. There, small wings twitched, as a fly stood alone on the wall. Seemed that even a building of mutants wasn't enough to dissuade insects from wandering in. If only that were true of the entire world.

Heidi's eyes flicked to the wall for a millisecond as she followed his gaze, noticed the fly, assumed he was looking at the fly, and looked back at him. He was probably trying to avoid staring. Heidi, though she wouldn't describe herself as shy, could relate to somebody being socially awkward because they tended to verthink things. luckily for Heridi, the next step in the conversation was kinda obvious.

"I'm Heidi. Heidi Williams," she greeted as she held out her hand to shake, and smiled up at him.

Awkwardly, Jason returned the shake. He wasn't used to others being so overly friendly in front of him, but it was a nice change of pace. "Jason. Pleasure to meet you." Heidi's eyes were quick, she certainly picked up on things far faster then others, he was pleasantly surprised by this. "So uh...what were you doin before I bumped into you? Literally." He chuckled slightly as he finished.

"Well," Heidi answered, "I was actually about to investigate what was going on outside. This was slipped under my door." She held up the envelope containing the letter and money that Jason would also have recieved. "I was thinking of going along. Music isn't really my thing, but it might help me make some friends a little faster."

Removing his own envelope from his pocket, Jason quickly compared the two against each other, finding them to be exactly the same, though he assumed his held at least one more paper within it due to one of the staff offering the male students a ride to the event.

"Seems we have a common goal. Even if you don't enjoy music, going to this will certainly be a way to help you meet people. I mean uh...you wanna go...together?" The proposition sounded more like a date than anything, but it'd be something.

Probably.

Heidi ignored the fact it sounded like a date, because to dwell on it would likely cause a social meltdown and a storm of crippling overthinking. Why couldn't have she ever been asked out before she developed this mutation, when she could just talk to people without overthinking everything she or they said? Instead she just smiled an innocent, naive smile as she forced her mind to become blank.

"Sure!" She answered. "Is that okay with you? Oh, I should probably tell you know in case it causes a misunderstanding later. I'm deaf. My mutation is hyper-intelligence, which lets me read your lips, but if I'm not looking at you when you're talking, and I blank you, just...yeah."

Tilting his head to the side, the red eyed individual regarded Heidi differently for a moment. He hadn't been expecting that. Deafness hadn't seemed to hinder her communication in any regard, so the fact that she couldn't actually hear him was somewhat of a surprise.

"So you...can't hear my amazingly beautiful voice right now? What a shame." He was clearly joking, he didn't hold his voice in that high of a regard, he hadn't made it this far by being arrogant. No reason to start now. "No worries, I'll tap you if I desire your attention."

He felt way to cheesy, he normally wasn't this punctual, but for whatever reason, he felt compelled to be cheesy. Regardless, it was clear he wasn't bothered by her deafness.

Heidi chuckled at his joke out of politeness, though it did raise the question of whether his voice was actually beautiful, or was be being sarcastic? For Heidi, that question was borderline philisophical. If a dog barks in the forest, and Heidi doesn't hear it, does it make any noise?

"Alright. In that case, I'll be wearing earphones before we get to the place, so nobody wonders why you poke me before you talk to me. Once we're there, I imagine it will be so loud nobody hear anybody else anyway."

"Right then, let's hope nobody thinks I'm bothering you to much. It'd be a shame if our get together was mistaken for something else and we start a riot, though with music in the background it might almost be appropriate." He couldn't help but snicker again.

Jason wasn't really worried about such a thing, he just thought about things that could go wrong and put a funny twist on them. A lot.

"Well then, meet you there my radiant beauty." There was a pause, and then Jason's fingers pinched the bridge of his nose. "What the heck did I just say..." He mumbled to himself.

"Wow," Heidi replied, quickly turning red, "I wish I could just...say things I was feeling without thinking like that. I envy you. Anyway,. I'll see you there, and by then it probably won't be awkward. Fingers crossed. See you!" She called out, grinning, as she headed out the doors first. At the first stone step outside, she turned and waved to him.

Waving back, he merely grinned. This was going to be a good time.
