I have a couple of questions:

• Is the snatching of human souls similar to ending their lives and having them reborn as demons or do the victims of the demons also willingly give up their bodies to a new demon?
• How strong are the powers of the Nephilim? Are we talking about regular magic that they have to train or overpowered magic that they aren't able to control due to their physical limitations? Is it the same case for the demons?
• Are the demons randomly ending lives as they see fit or have they gathered to find the Nephilim together?

Soldiers of the Afterlife

Some people believe in reincarnation. Others think that people get sorted into heaven and hell. And then there are the people who think that the afterlife doesn't exist. None of them was completely correct. There was nothing that could have prepared you for what the afterlife was actually like.

You suddenly stood in front of a school entrance, waiting in line to get registrated as a student. When it was your turn, you asked the person behind the desk about the school, about the curriculum, about the benefits going to the school, about the ages of the students. None of your questions got answered. You were forced to fill in your information, but you still didn't know anything.

Weeks flew by and you learned that school mostly existed out of medical tests and both physical and mental exercise. It didn't seem as if they were planning to teach you anything particular. You turned out to genuinely like the afterlife. Of course you were suspicious that you only saw first years, people who arrived in the school around the same time as you did, but since not one of the staff answered critical questions it was useless to worry about.

However, one morning a third year sneaks into the shared bedroom. They tell you about the complot of Afterlife's Leaders. The plan is to completely take over life on Earth. Nowadays, Earth is left in its own control, but they wanted to make Afterlife the control room of Earth.

Do you think that the leaders of the Afterlife are right and are you craving for a position in power? Maybe you betray your fellow first years in order to get that power. Or maybe you want to join the third year and his friends who created a secret group of rebels. Another possibility is that you don't even believe his words to be true.

A selected first years get chosen by Afterlife's Leaders to join the others. What happened to the rejected first years, you don't know. You quickly learn that four large camps had been formed: The Rebels, The Power-Hungry and The Unbelievers and The Weak.

The Rebels wanted to do everything in their power to stop the complot. The Power-Hungry wanted to grab a powerful position, allowing them to be there and to be imporant when the Leaders' mission would be successful. The Unbelievers were still ignoring that something bad was going on, while The Weak believed in the complot but didn't feel like anything could be done about it.

In this story, you will be an accepted first year, trying to find their way in the Afterlife. Do you join one of the camps or do you prefer being alone? And how are the Leaders planning to take control of Earth? Will it have an impact on you? And will your choices change once the concept of magic suddenly makes an appearance? Your choices will decide if you are worthy of a magical ability.

A positive use for this magic is to lessen the suffering of poor people who cannot afford to eat three meal a day. A negative use for this magic is to prevent people from feeling hunger making them essentially forget to eat. Throughout the centuries, many people have died from starvation this way.

Atzu

This spell helps the target to increase the air intake, essentially helping them breath. This is a popular technique to temporarily help people with allergies. The most powerful magicians were able to use this spell to push an object out of the throats of choking victims. Others could manage their oxygen intake while waiting for the object to be removed.

Durst

This spell is similar to Ashug with the exception that this spell relates to thirst. Both the positive and negative use of this spell is similar to Ashug.

Geif

This spell can be used to remove poison from the target's body.

Weck

This spell increases the mental energy of the target.

Wund

This spell can be used to heal any wounds the target might have. How deep the wounds are allowed to be for this spell to work depends entirely on the power of the magician.

Personality

Even though she is not one to talk much, she is very sure of herself. The word 'insecure' probably does not exist in her dictionary. On top of that, she is very charismatic and she knows this. The only thing she has to do is smile sweetly and she can get anyone to do anything for her. People eat our of her hand, as they say. Since she is a very powerful magician as well, she can use her magic without any hand signals. Her face also wouldn't show any sign of effort. This combined with her charisma makes it easy for her to hurt her victims without them knowing. By the time they realise what she is doing to them, it's already too late.

Background

Being the daughter of angels, Joanne was meant to live in heaven watching over humanity. When she was only two years old, it was revealed that she would have healing magic. This made her parents very enthusiastic, but it made everyone else feel jealous. The reason for this is that healing magic was considered rare, since it was supposed to appear only in those pure of heart. Nobody considered Joanne to be pure of heart. It was unclear for the girl herself if people insulted her out of jealousy or if they really didn't consider her to be a good person.

The relationship with the other citizens of heaven became worse over time. During her teens, she decided to become the person everyone else feared her to be. She started to use her healing magic in a bad way. She was the first one in history to create reversed healing spells. Even though she was only one single person, but still managed to end the eternal lifes of hundreds of souls before being cast out.

The plan was for her to end up in the underworld, where she was to be punished for all eternity. This did not happen. She managed to convince a demon to let her use the portal to Earth. Every now and then, she moves from one city to the next to prevent people from finding out that she cannot die. She changes her name every single time. Luckily, she has some connections that allow her to alter her own information in the citizen databank.

Sometimes she was almost discovered by humans, but her charm and innocence made her able to end their lifes and make them disappear before they could tell others.

On top of that, she absolutely adores accessories, makeup and nail polish. When it comes to makeup, she usually stays fairly natural and her nail polish are always light shades. Her accessories can be of all colors. She doesn't have a preference for silver or gold.

Personality

Evelyn is not the smartest girl and she is very gullible. She trusts everyone she meets and therefore believes anything anyone ever tells her. Not once in her life has she felt anxious about something. Every single day in her life is a day worth celebrating. She's very optimistic and hard to insult. Whenever someone would say something mean to her, she would happily reply with 'Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest?' This is not meant as a smart comeback. This is an honest question that she asks people.

Background

When she was 18 years old, the magicians came to Earth. They live in a different universe and are able to make portals to travel between universes. According to these other humans, a new generation of magicians should have been born on Earth. They said that there was an obvious pattern in which magicians were born on Earth and whenever they came to get these magicians to join them in their universe, they would delete the memories of magic from the remaining humans' minds.

Evelyn was very excited about this opportunity. Every child dreams of having magic one day and Evelyn was no different. What might make her different from others is that she kept dreaming about this as an adult. She felt like her wish had come true. Immediately after hearing about this on the news, she ran towards the nearest checking point. Apparently they had a magician who could sense people's energy, so this person could easily identify who the magicians were.

When Evelyn reached the front of the waiting line, the person checking everyone looked shocked. They said that they sensed a very strong energy from her and that she might have been the strongest they had ever felt on Earth, even though Earth magicians were supposedly way weaker than magicians born in their universe. It had something to do with having stronger genes if you were born from magicians.

Enthusiastically, she followed the magicians to their universe along with the other Earth magicians. In the next couple of days, someone was assigned to the new Earth magicians. Their task was to bring out the magic, so that they would know who had which type of magic. It took all of them no longer than a week to find this out, except for Evelyn. Her magic just would not appear whatsoever.

She started to get bullied by the other magicians, but this didn't bring her down. She trusted the words of the person who confirmed her magical abilities. And she was right to trust that person. After being in the other universe for two months, she suddenly woke up one day with wings on her back. Evelyn is a fairy.

Fairies are not able to use magic themselves. They are supposed to permanently connect with one single other magician in order to activate the magical abilities and even then only the magician they connected with can use these abilities. It is important to choose this person well, because the connection is for life.

Only people pure of heart can be fairies, which is why they always had been rare to begin with. However, fairies were believed to be completely extinct and never to appear again, so Evelyn - the first fairy in a very long time - became very popular very fast after discovering her true nature. She has not bonded with someone yet, but she has tried to learn more about past fairies and exercised to strengthen her body.

Diana can be very insecure, but she refuses to show this to the outside world. Because of this, she can be very rude and appear quite arrogant. This huge contrast between how she feels on the inside and how she makes herself look on the outside causes her to often question herself, her identity, her choices, her values, everything that makes her Diana.

Background

Diana grew up in a world where fairies were the dominant species on the planet. Humans didn't exist there. Every single person on that planet had a type of magic. Well, everyone except for Diana. She was the only one in the history of the planet to not be born with magic. Her parents forced her to use magical items to compensate for this, to not draw too much attention to herself, but she wasn't skilled enough to use them.

Because she refused to disappoint everyone, especially her own family, she tried researching different magical items in the hope that something exist that could give her magical abilities. Nothing of that sort was in the books, but there was a portal, a portal leading to different worlds. Having discovered this portal, she was hoping that in another world an object would exist that could help her.

Behind everyone's backs, she used the portal to travel to Earth. After spending some time between humanity, she soon realised that magic only existed in people's imaginations. Since the travel obviously was a waste of time, she wanted to go back to her own world. However, she suddenly remembered using a magical item to open the portal and not taking this item with her to Earth. This means that she cannot open the portal from Earth and that she is stuck between the powerless humans.

He doesn't like to cover his chest, because he feels like a shirt is always too tight and claustrophobic.

Personality

He likes to do his own thing and thus refuses to take orders from anyone else. Due to his second name being a more regular name, he introduces himself as Tyler instead of Lance. Most of the time, he hides his first name and simply calls himself Tyler King. All of his time is spent in complete solitude away from everything and everyone. He hasn't talked to another human being in years and isn't planning on doing it anytime soon.

Background

Tyler's parents were both part of a gang living in the woods without electricity or technology. People from the nearest towns and cities prefered to refer to the gang as being more of a cult than an actual gang. The citizens believed that the gang brainwashed their members into starting wars, loving ending lifes and doing anything they could for their leader.

As a young kid, Tyler showed early signs of being very strong and good with a sword. His parents actually added his first name when he was already five years old as reference to his abilities. Because these abilities were discovered young, the gang was able to completely brainwash Tyler into becoming a brainless weapon that did everything they would ask.

When Tyler became a teenager, his parents discovered another gang living in the same woods. His mother fell madly in love with the members, the way they worked and the way they lived. His father wanted to stay loyal to their own gang. The two fought all of the time until his mother eventually officially switched sides. Because of this situation and Tyler not wanting to choose one parent over the other, he was banned from both gangs. On top of that, his parents used him as a weapon in an attempt to destroy each other.

After becoming an adult, Tyler decided to abandon everyone he knew to live alone in the woods, somewhere no one would ever be able to find him.

Personality

Raphael cares a lot about other people, but was taught as a young child that this was not something to be happy about. His parents made him follow courses and programs where he would learn to care less about everything and everyone. It worked. He didn't even care about his family enough to stay in contact with them. At least, that is what he made them believe. He never let go of his empathy for others, he just made his parents think he did before abandoning them to live his own life the way he wants. When he meets new people nowadays, he still makes them think that he doesn't care, simply to prevent himself from getting hurt again.

Background

Raphael grew up in a very rich and well known family that was bothered all of the time by paparazzi. His parents taught him as a young child to put on an act in front of cameras and journalists. He seemed to be pretty good at acting, but not as good as his siblings. For some reason, they put on a better performance and they also didn't feel guilty about lying. Raphael wanted to be honest and himself, but he was the only one thinking that way in his environment.

As an adult, he moved to a completely new city all on his own. He quickly received a job as the IT guy in a very important and successful company. After working there for two years, he quit. The job was extremely boring and the other colleagues constantly tried to get to know him. It was so annoying for him. However, being at home without a salary didn't seem to be better. It did at first, but he quickly changed his mind after seeing bills in his mailbox.

That's when he discovered the art of hacking. He made the decision to become a professional hacker and earn money that way. All of his days are spent inside the comfort of his own home. Often he becomes so concentrated at his work that he forgets to eat, drink, go to the toilet or sleep. Hacking, that is actually interesting. That is what he wants to do with his life. He describes the discovery of hacking as falling in love for the first time, even becoming obsessed with it.

People who only know him superficially describe him as being a gentle, loving soul respecting everyone the way they are. He is always there when family members or friends need someone. He offers affections, resources, anything his loved ones may need. People who do know him deeper would describe him as being the complete opposite. He's a manipulator. They say that he knew exactly what to say to convince them to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it.

Background

Even though Wade discovered as a young child that he had the ability to manipulate others, he never felt like he belonged somewhere. Maybe it was because of this ability. Maybe people feared him too much to engage with him. He himself never seemed to understand. That only motivated him to do whatever he wanted. He didn't care about values or rules, but only about himself.

As a teenager, he accidently runs into a secret society, which he joins immediately after hearing what kind of society they were. These people had plans and ideas for how to control other human beings. For the first time in his life, Wade felt excited in his chest. He had found the one thing that he lived for, the only place where he would belong.

It was actually his own idea to start a circus. After explaining the concept to his superiors, everyone soon became just as enthusiastic as Wade himself was. That's why they made him the owner of the circus located the nearest to the headquarters of the society. The circus however wasn't normal. It was a prison for humans. They were locked in cages and presented to the society in a similar fashion as animals in a zoo.

Need For Critique Partner [18+]

Outside of this website I like to write Flemish stories. I hope to get one published someday, but in the 11-12 years I have been writing I have never been able to finish one due to being too much of a perfectionist. I feel extremely insecure when I read about writers publishing one book after the other at a pace of like one book a year or something. I roleplay to keep myself motivated to write and that helps.

Now I had the idea to write an English story together with a critique partner in the hope that it keeps me motivated for my current Flemish story. This would mean that while I write my novel, you write yours. We help each other to not give up basically.

We can decide together on the minimum amount of words we would write each time and what the deadlines are each time. We can read the parts we send each other, talk about what we think about it.

I am looking for an adult, since the English story I want to write is a dark and mature story inspired by the kid show Miraculous. Please tell me beforehand if there are dark themes that you can't handle and which they are.

Lost Souls [18+]

It was 5 May 2025. The morning didn't seem any different from normal, until you looked into your bedroom mirror. Your eyes gazed upon an unknown body. Your first thought was that it must be a dream, so you followed your morning routine assuming that at some point you have to wake up. Right before leaving your house to go to work, you turn on the morning news. It wasn't a dream. Several people woke up into different bodies that morning. You weren't the only one. Most people commented that the victims were delusional, but as one of the victims yourself you believed everything you heard.

People not only woke up as different people, but as people opposite from themselves. Athletes woke up in wheelchairs. Nurses woke up in jail as felons convicted for ending lifes. The rich celebrities woke up as people who couldn't even afford food. The most arrogant people who had never felt anxiety before suddenly couldn't feel anything else anymore. It was chaos.

It looked similar as reincarnation, but at the same time it didn't. You weren't reborn as babies, you as an adult woke up in the body of another adult, someone completely unfamiliar. In order to make yourself feel at ease, you tried to go to your old home. You were craving for something familiar, something you knew and liked. To your surprise, someone else was living at your house. Your neighbours had never even heard of you.

The first couple of days you spent in complete solitude. Hoping, wishing, praying that the dream, the nightmare, would end. It didn't. At some point you decided that returning to your old life wasn't an option anymore, so you might as well get to know your new life. You put all of your effort in getting to know your new family, friends, partners. You tried to hide that you were one of the victims, that you had no idea who they were, because you didn't want them to think you were crazy.

You thought that you would get the hang of it after a while, but the contrast between your old life and your new life was too high to simply get used of it. You reached such a low point that you thought about contacting the other victims. However, someone else seemed to have the same idea sooner, because a letter ended up in your mailbox, a letter without a return adress and without stamps. For a moment you wondered how they got your adress. It didn't have any stamps, so that lust mean that they came to your house.

You wanted to ignore the letter. It didn't seem trustworthy that another victim just happened to have your adress, because you hadn't told anything about your situation to the media. The letter was a red flag meant to be ignored. But how could you ignore a chance at talking to other victims who might be able to help you get out of that deep, dark pit you were in? You couldn't.

That's why you went to the meeting place at the specified time, hoping to talk to the other victims, kind of like an AA meeting. However, you were right to have doubts. In a matter of seconds, you get blindfolded and locked up.
