Torvi watched as the apple bounced on the floor and rolled towards their table. She glanced over at the cloaked figure, recognizing him as the man that had been there before. She narrowed her eyes at him, her suspicion growing even more. She took notice of the table, he had no drink there, no evidence of food, nothing. She also took notice of the owner glancing at the stranger, a bit of frustration evident on his face. This man had obviously sat here all day long and either hadn’t ordered anything and thus taking up a table and not making the tavern any money, or he’d done something to offend the owner of the establishment. Either was it made Torvi even more cautious of the man.

She hadn’t expected Elleta’s sassy remark and couldn’t contain her abrupt laughter. She hadn’t anticipated the two across from her to be so brutal and sassy. It was quite entertaining for sure. She glanced over at Bowyn with a slight smirk, wondering if he’d find any enjoyment out of the two’s cheeky remarks. It was definitely on par with something he would say as well. She wondered if he would add to the rudeness as well as it would very much be like him to do so. He didn’t trust newcomers and this person was definitely acting suspiciously.

She glanced back at the cloaked figure again and made a point of looking him up and down suspiciously. She wasn’t fond of people listening in to her conversations and she was willing to bet this man was here to eavesdrop on people. The small smile on his face gave it away that he had dropped the apple on purpose. ”Let me put my companions words a bit more simply, what do you want?” Her face showed every bit of distrust for the man as she kicked the apple back towards him. She remained guarded as she watched him closely, waiting for his response.

Dionaea falling ill had been something that Elsea hadn’t expected in the least. She initially wondered if it had been the alcohol she’d had as it seemed like the girl hadn’t ever had much of that, but it was soon discovered it was something more. Elsea wished she could help more, but she didn’t know much about fairies and what ailed them. Besides, if Risa’s healing wasn’t doing much what could she do? All she knew was herbal remedies for things and even then she didn’t know if that would work for Dio.

What she did know she could do, however, was make a tea that was soothing for Risa at the very least. So she had spoken with Kyran’s mother and gathered what she needed to brew said tea. Now she was carrying a cup of it into the room where Risa sat with her best friend. She quietly moved beside the young fairy and handed her the cup of tea, giving her a soft smile while gently rubbing her back comfortingly.

She was quiet for a long moment, watching Dio’s breaths. Finally after a long moment she spoke. ”I think it’s the right choice to send Dio somewhere other than here for her safety.” She knew it wasn’t going to be what Risa wanted to hear, but there was truth in it. ”Our faces are all over the place now, it’s become very dangerous for us here.” She explained, looking at Risa now and hoping she understood what she meant. It was going to be hard enough for them all to keep unseen let alone trying to protect someone ill at the same time. It was just the harsh reality of the situation.

When she didn’t hit the floor, Kenia looked over to Malachi who’d caught her and gave him a thankful smile. Her movements were slower now so that the world wouldn’t start spinning again. ”The drinks were definitely spiked, no doubt about that.” She said with a sigh as she gratefully leaned on Rei’s shoulder for support. Moving was a little slow going, but it was better to go slow than to fall and hurt themselves.

She remained silent for a long while, but eventually she laid her head on Rei’s shoulder as she’d gotten tired of holding it up, and began talking. ”I’m sorry you guys are having to deal with us like this. I never intended to get this drunk, it won’t happen again I promise.” There was sorrow in her voice as she spoke, watching the back of Corvina as they went along. ”I hope you all know that you’re my family now. That should scare me, but for some reason it doesn’t. You see I have bad luck with family. My mother died when I was young and while my father was fantastic, he always seemed to be busy. Then I married a man who I now realize was awful. I’m pretty sure he married me for status. Then we had two beautiful children whom he stole away one night and took to Aklenroth as a sacrifice all so he could gain more power.” She rambled, not really realizing all of what she was telling these people.

”So I just wanna say that I love you guys.” She finished, closing her eyes as they continued to walk, relying on Rei to guide her for a bit.

As she ran, the dark thoughts that were flooding Rose’s mind would have been alarming if it hadn’t been for the fact that she still felt rage towards Cain. How dare he threaten her family. Had he been trying to manipulate her in some way by doing so? That thought alone made her think back to Damien, to how manipulative he’d been and how she allowed it out of fear. She hated herself for allowing someone to manipulate her. She was weak. Well that was going to change starting tonight. Never again would she allow someone to manipulate her, to take advantage of her, to play her. She’d become stronger, no matter what it took. She would completely destroy those that threatened her or her family. The demon that slept inside of her, that she tried so desperately to keep asleep, was now awake. There was a small voice telling her to not listen to that demon, to put him back to sleep, but Rose ignored the voice. He could make her stronger fast and that’s what she needed.

A familiar voice pulled her out of her head, making her stop in her tracks. She stood still for a moment, confused and wondering if her spell had fallen. It hadn’t, but she soon began to realize it was no surprise Felix would suspect it was her. Illusion spells were her specialty and she constantly used them, so why wouldn’t he first question if it was her? How would she explain herself, though? She didn’t want him to be able to see the darkness and rage she felt. She smirked briefly to herself before forcing tears to start falling down her cheeks. She dropped the cloaking spell and ran to her cousin, throwing her arms around him, and sobbing into his chest. ”Oh Felix, it was awful! I was talking with that Cain guy and then I offered to help him get a job at Alexei’s. So we left to go get an application and it turns out that’s not what he wanted at all! Why are guys such jerks sometimes?!” She made a point to not specify what happened, allowing her cousin’s mind to run wild and come to his own conclusion.

After a moment she sniffled and released him, wiping at the tears on her face. ”I wanna just hang out with you and Violet for the rest of the night and get completely wasted.” Well she’d let them get wasted, she wanted to make sure Cain didn’t come back and try to harm them. She would be their protector without them even knowing there was danger. Her phone began to ring and she pulled it out of her pocket to see Violet was calling. She also took note of the fact she had a missed text that she’d have to look at in a minute. She knew Violet had probably sensed her feelings, knowing her twin sister would be harder to convince that everything was okay.

”Hey Vi. Sorry, I’m okay. I’ll be inside in a second and I’ll explain, I promise.” She answered the phone, immediately reassuring her sister. She knew that she may be calling for a different reason, but she was willing to put money on the fact that she was worried.

It took Kenia a long moment to realize someone was trying to get her and Malachi’s attention. She’d actually completely forgotten that they were in a bar, one of the rowdiest bars in the poorest area of Roshmi in fact. There were fights, arguments, and drunken conversations happening all around them and she was supposed to be paying attention. Instead she was there ignoring it all and focusing on Malachi alone. It slowly began to register that it was Corvina’s voice that she heard and this prompted Kenia to reluctantly pull away from Malachi’s lips. She looked over to Rei and Corvina, blinking as she tried to grasp what was said. ”Ship us as a couple?” She began to say in a rather dazed matter, trying to figure out what she meant. She then shook her head a bit to clear it and truly looked at the two humans.

Finally she saw the panic in Cora’s eyes and it caused small alarm bells to ring in Kenia’s head. ”What exactly happened?” She questioned as she now began to look around the room. It seemed just as crazy as it always was in here, but slowly she started to notice that there were some stares on both Rei and Corvina. She turned her head back to look at Malachi, the movement being faster than she’d intended and thus making everything spin. She swayed, almost falling which made her stupidly giggle as she grabbed hold of Malachi to steady herself.

”Maybe they’re right. Besides we can continue this back at the inn if we wanted.” She gave Malachi a flirtatious smirk as she went to casually move away from him and head for the door. The movement, however, made the room spin again and she soon found herself falling towards the grimey floor of the bar. In a brief moment of clarity, she realized that’s what she got for acting like a complete fool. Perhaps she should stay away from alcohol for a while after tonight.

Cain

To say that Rose was surprised Cain hadn’t gone straight for the drink would be a little bit of an understatement. In fact, a moment of fear overtook her as she wondered if she’d made a terrible mistake and he wasn’t a vampire after all, but something about his gaze at the glass told her that wasn’t the case. He definitely wanted the blood, but something held him back and she wondered what it might be.

The delayed clap put her on edge just a tiny bit, but she didn’t allow it to show. Instead she just mock bowed at his applause, giggling a little. It wasn’t until he began moving towards her, speaking, that she halted her giggle and stilled. He leaned in close to her ear and her heart was pounding hard with alarm. Was he a vampire that preferred blood straight from the source? Had she just made a terrible mistake? She quietly focused on strengthening her ward of protection just in case.

The question Cain asked, however, caught her a bit off guard and for a moment she couldn’t find her voice. Then she laughed at herself, at the fact that she’d thought he’d just start feeding on her right here in the middle of everyone. That would be way more dangerous for him. ”No one.” She told him simply before moving herself a bit to give him a funny look. ”I conjured a drink we serve over at Alexei’s where I work. We get the blood from a woman who pays humans handsomely to donate blood. I’m not a killer, I promise.” She gave him a reassuring grin, wondering if that would be enough to convince him.

”Alexei’s? You mean the boomer bar by the bowling alley?” Cain’s pitch heightened and lowered, as if his vocal cords were lost on which cadence to adopt. He pulled away to stand up straight, and took two paces back till he was comfortably away from Rose. Veins in his neck and forehead seemed to strain momentarily before relaxing, and following this deferment he continued in a much more steady tone.

”You think I was born yesterday, don’t you?” The irony of this statement was lost on Cain. ”I’ve lived here in Ember Grove my whole life. Alexei’s is nothing more than the shoddy bar my grandparents would go to watch the football game after Sunday mass. Nothing more, and nothing less.”

You certainly look like you were. Rose thought to herself at his statement of being born yesterday, but she didn’t dare say that out loud just in case. While yes she made dumb decisions and often didn’t have a filter, sometimes she knew when not to say something. She did, however, roll her eyes at his last statement and sighed a bit. ”Well you obviously haven’t been a vampire for very long.” She mumbled as she decided on what to do. She could just show him she wasn’t lying. She spared a brief glance over to Violet and saw her conversing with another woman. This helped her decide it wouldn’t hurt to walk Cain over to Alexei’s and show him. ”Look, how about I just take you over there and just show you. We can walk over there right now.” She suggested with a shrug. At the same time she used her telepathy to inform Violet where she was going.

Hey I’m going to walk my new friend over to Alexei’s real quick so he can grab an application. Text me and let me know if you guys wanna leave Trance and head to the Pit or something. So she lied a little bit, but she did it because she didn’t want Violet to worry about her. She couldn’t just say she was taking her new vampire friend over to Alexei’s otherwise she’d be suspicious. So she figured a little white lie wouldn’t hurt.

”...Am I a vampire, now?” Cain asked in some part rhetoric, and some part true inquiry. What a repugnant thought. The corners of his lips twitched as Rose offered to bring him to Alexei’s, and promptly he continued. ”I did claim to owe you an apology, so you have the benefit of my doubt. Please, lead the way.”

It was curious to Rose as to why he was inquiring if he was a vampire. Wasn’t he one? She didn’t press the matter for the time being, however, as he agreed to follow her to Alexei’s. ”Alrighty, back to work I go. They’re gonna think I’m crazy.” She joked as she led the way out of Trance and towards Alexei’s. It would take them a hot minute to get there and so she figured she’d use the time to get to know Cain just a little better. Her mind, however, went straight to his statement from earlier. ”So, uh, what did you mean when you asked if you were a vampire now?” She’d waited until they were away from people to ask, hoping the lack of people around would encourage him to talk freely.

Cain sauntered briskly just a step behind Rose, following in her lead. ”Vampires are monsters who prey upon mankind.” As the two of them passed by an alleyway, Cain stopped walking and stood still. His posture had reverted to how it was when he had entered Trance, while his eyes once again hazed with hunger. ”I’m no such thing.”

His head, lowered towards the ground, lifted just high enough for him to look towards Rose. ”You’re a witch, right? I heard you saying some words before you conjured that glass. Is that how your magic works?”

Rose paused her walking as soon as she’d realized he’d stopped, glancing at him and then the alleyway for a short moment before looking back at Cain. ”Not all vampires are monsters.” She stated simply, not sure what else to say on the matter. Besides, who was she to make a case for vampires other than knowing a few friendly ones. Perhaps they’d be at Alexei’s and could show him.

His next words are what caught her attention and her mind now focused on how to respond. She bit her lip, looking at the ground for a moment, knowing she had to say something. Honesty was the best course, she decided. ”Yeah I’m a witch, hope that doesn’t scare you off. As for my magic, yes and no. There are some spells I learned when I was younger that I don’t need to say anything anymore, like this.” She began to explain as she cast a cloaking spell on herself and disappeared from sight. She moved a few feet to the right before dropping the spell and reappearing. ”Then there are spells that are a bit newer to me that I have to use a chant for like what you heard and saw in Trance.” She hoped he wouldn’t be afraid of her knowing that she had the ability to cast spells. While she felt like he definitely had the advantage on her, it was surprising how many people feared witches.

”So you really are one of them. That’s a relief.” These words seemed to be addressed as much to himself as they were to Rose. Cain took a step closer to Rose, bearing down upon her with nearly a foot of surplus height. At this distance, she could see why he had been looking downwards. His eyes were filled with tears. ”You were right in one measure. This change… whatever it is I’m going through, it happened not even a day ago. I’ve struggled and struggled and struggled since then. You have no idea how hard it was. It was like I was locked in a cage, forced to endure the endless agony of starvation while I waited for my final breath with no hope of salvation. I was killed, and my heart ripped from my chest, and the only way to ease the unfathomable agony of its absence was to kill. But I didn’t. W̶͜͡e̸͘ didn’t. Because I wasn’t the monster that had been placed inside me.” Cain took one final step forward.

”I thought I was alone, Rose.”

Rose watched Cain step closer, holding her ground as she noticed that his eyes were filled with tears. She was shocked to find out he’d been changed not even a day ago and it concerned her a bit. She didn’t know much about vampires and their transition, but a part of her worried this may be a trap. She began focusing on her ward of protection once again just in case, but she didn’t move. Her heart broke for him just a little bit and she felt a desire to help or comfort him. ”No one is ever alone.” She said, staring up at him all while watching his every move.

”...I thought I was alone, Rose. So I have to thank you.” Cain turned away, and began walking back towards Trance. ”I was presented with two options. To lose my humanity by eating other humans, or die. But now I know better -- because of you. I don’t have to eat other humans. Why would I? This town is chock full of parasites like you who could serve in their place.

He continued walking till he was at the end of the alleyway, and looked over his shoulder. ”Oh, but you don’t have to worry about me attacking you. I’m an honest man, and you’ve already given me enough today.” As he spoke, his eyes turned fully red. ”I mean, even if I wasn’t, something tells me there’s a little girl with brown hair waiting back at Trance who fits my palate.”

A wave of emotions hit Rose all at once, but there were three prominent ones she felt. First came shock at how Cain had just played her. Then came horror as she realized he spoke of Violet. Last came rage. Not a blinding rage that some often felt, no this was a different, dangerous rage. It was a calm, deadly rage she hadn't felt in a very long time. A giggle escaped her lips, gradually developing into hysterical laughter. As she laughed, she quietly used telekinesis to detach one hair from his head, a small thing that most would hardly even notice. As soon as that single hair was in her hand the laughter subsided and she looked at him with a grin and shake of her head.

"And to think I was over here trying to figure out if there might be a spell to turn you back human as the full transformation to vampire may not have happened yet. I was considering trying to help you back into your normal life, but then you had to go and threaten someone I care about." She said as her face turned to something deadly, yet a terrifying grin remained on her face. The nice and friendly Rose was gone, in her place stood a demon clothed in the skin of a young woman.

"Thank you for this gift, by the way." She said as she held up the hair briefly for him to see before pocketing it. "It'll be quite useful if you harm a single hair on anyone I care about. Help me learn more about you, where you live, who your family is. You said you grew up here so I'm willing to bet you have loved ones here." She gave him a dark smirk before muttering, "Corium." She vanished completely from site and quietly began moving back towards Trance as well, she needed to find her family. "You spoke of monsters earlier. Well congratulations, you've awoken a monster." Still invisible, it was the last words she left him with before taking off in a sprint for Trance.

Waiting a few moments till her last footsteps fell, Cain keeled over and vomited. His fangs sat angrily in his mouth, begging to be sunk into something living. All the while, the pleasant smile never left his face.

After a moment he righted himself, wiping his eyes in the process, and made a heel-turn. With Rose out of the way, he once again began the trek to Alexei’s.

Summary of the Afternoon

Belle had allowed Torvi to order food and paid for it as she said she would, which Torvi was pleased about. While Bowyn didn’t trust that anything was actually free, Torvi would take advantage of it where she could. With the food she also got a water, needing to drink something, but deciding another mead would have been a bad choice. As she’d gone to take a drink of it, however, the water stayed in place at the bottom of the cup. She’d found it odd for a brief moment, until she noticed the glance from Belle which indicated she was responsible. What a clever way to indicate to Torvi alone that she wasn’t an elf at all, but in fact a human. No one else would have seen the use of the magic and it made Torvi grin internally. She proceeded to start a conversation about how she was relieved to find a relative here in Roshmi, hoping Bowyn would pick up on the subtle clue of her own which he thankfully did.

After some more small talk and mention of the ball, the group decided to leave the Leaky Tap in order to go shopping for outfits. It was during this time that they discovered Belle was also quite skilled at theft. This was something they could all oddly bond over. Torvi was thrilled to have found another human, or maybe she should say that the human had found her. While she still kept her guard up a bit around the new people just in case, it was a relief to know she wasn’t the only one of her kind here in Avalia.

While they shopped they ended up seeing the message broadcast over what Bowyn quietly had to explain was a sphere. Images appeared in the sky of four figures first which Torvi made note to remember because they might be potential allies. Then there was another sketch shown of a demi-human man, but they didn’t explain what his crimes were. She found it quite curious and thought she’d seen Belle react to the image a bit, but wasn’t entirely sure nor did she ask about it. They also overheard a rumor of dark elves burning down a nobles house merely because the noble had just mentioned that the humans didn’t seem to be that big of a threat. Torvi couldn’t help but feel like dark elves were too over dramatic in dealing with things.

Now the group was back at the Leaky Tap, where Bowyn and Torvi were staying, debating on if it were time to call it a night. Their shopping trip had been quite successful and Torvi loved the dress she found. She strangely found she was eager for the ball now even though she knew it’d be dangerous. The elf ears definitely seemed to hold up with no issues through the crowds of the marketplace which made her feel a bit better. She was confident they’d hold up at the ball if she decided to dance. For a brief moment she wondered if Bowyn would dance as well, but had a feeling he’d be reluctant. Maybe she’d try to convince him to do so.

She looked over to Belle and gave her a grin, still excited over the fact that this woman was another human. ”So where are you guys staying while you’re here in Roshmi?” She was curious if they had a place to stay or not. She even considered suggesting they all stay together, but she didn’t know how Bowyn would react. So for now she decided on just asking where they were staying.

Out of the corner of her eye, Rose watched the woman who had started the fight finally get dragged out, but that was no longer her attention. She was focused on Cain, watching his movements for any more signs to confirm her suspicions about him. For a moment she laughed at herself internally as she wondered if this was what hunters did when trying to identify a supernatural. She was just using to her advantage what she'd learned from people watching while working at Alexei's.

His hand grasped hers and it was cold, only helping to confirm things more. Though she supposed he could just be really cold. As he smiled she swore she could see fangs, but it was far to dark to really tell and her imagination could just be running wild and seeing things. Still her guy told her this was a vampire, which should have scared her much more than it actually did. She knew there were some very dangerous vampires in this town, but she also knew there were some really cool and friendly ones. She just hoped Cain was the later. "Why would you need to apologise? You truly didn't do anything wrong." She said as she kept the grin in place.

She'd noticed the hint of sadness in his eyes earlier and, despite the fact that they'd gone blank and that should be a warning, she came up with an idea. "Hey wanna see a magic trick? She asked as she pulled her hand away from the handshake and hid it in the darkest spot under the bar. She was taking a MAJOR risk right now and knew that if either Felix or Violet knew what she was about to do they'd be furious, but she enjoyed living dangerously from time to time...well a lot of the time, if she were being honest. Before he could answer she began casting her spell and quietly whispered, "Inde rem hanc adducite." She closed her eyes and envisioned the "Bloody" Mary's they served at Alexei's made with, you guessed it, blood. She felt a glass appear in her hand and couldn't help but smile smugly as she presented it between her and Cain.

"What do you think? Be nice, it's one of my best tricks." Now she just had to hope she wasn't wrong in her assumptions otherwise she was in trouble...

Kenia Malachi

Time: Dusk
Location: The Nest

Kenia found herself glancing towards Malachi, but before she could stare for long her vision was blocked by a tall and very drunk light elven man. She blinked up at him in surprise, wondering why he was grinning down at her in such a way.

”Well hey there, pretty little thing. Looks like you need a dance partner.” The smell of alcohol assaulted Kenia’s nose and her own drunken state couldn’t keep her from looking up at him in disgust. She did not want to be near this man.

”No I’m quite content dancing alone. So if you could just fuck off, that would be wonderful.” Tact wasn’t her strong suit at the moment and as she tried to move away from the man she found him gripping her arm. She looked at his hand in disbelief, but before things could fully register she found herself being pulled towards him.

”Hey I don’t appreciate being talked to in such a way nor do I take well to being rejected. So how about you apologize.” She tried to push herself away from the man, but his grip mixed with her befuddled mind was making that impossible as he basically had her in a grapple. If only she could reach one of her knives, then he wouldn’t be so confident.

Malachi’s footing was harder to place than usual as he stumbled after her, pushing people out of his way without a second thought. The room around him seemed blurrier than usual. It had been a long time since he had been inebriated, but it was not an unfamiliar feeling. The lack of filter and the over-willingness to do anything without a second thought was something not easily forgotten once one had been through the experience. Malachi was his honest self right now and that scared him more than anything had in the last week, for he didn’t really know the person they’d all be meeting tonight. His emotions were something he kept under lock and key. If these were his honest thoughts, why did they revolve around Kenia so much?

When Malachi finally found her, she was with another elven man. His heart was pounding in his ears as he overheard him call her a pretty little thing. You disgusting pig. She rejected him to his pleasure and he smiled smugly. Kenia was obviously out of his reach. His best bet would be for him to get the hell away from her while he still could. Of course, he didn’t though. Beautiful elven women were not so commonplace in Roshmi. No man was going to just give up on her. It had been a while since he had seen a woman like Kenia anywhere in Avalia.

The man ended up grabbing her arm. Malachi immediately started pushing people out of the way again to move up to them. He could not even hear his own thoughts. It was a blind, numbing anger that only escalated as he tightened his grip on her. His fists were clenched so tightly he thought he would break skin. Finally he grabbed the elven man by his shirt, yanking him away from Kenia and up to the wall with strength he had not used against another in a very long time. The loud music started to lower its volume and nearby folk began to all turn their heads to the scene. Malachi barely noticed all this as he stared him in the eyes. He wanted to curse the man out and tell him how much of a low-life he was, but the clouded intelligence looming in the back of his mind reminded him that making the scene worse than it already was, was a bad idea. His ears rang as the anger he felt seemed to make his blood feel like it was boiling. He simply stared into the man’s widened, terrified eyes, letting him have a moment to take in how angry Malachi was with him without telling him a word of it.

“Get out.” His voice was cold and threatening, but low in volume. There was no need to give him a threat or say anything of the like. It was clear what his intentions were and the elf clearly recognized it. Malachi’s grip loosened and the elf moved away as quickly as he could. He stayed in place for that moment, letting his arms fall to his sides and trying to collect himself once again. The music started to play at full volume again and interest was lost as there was no fight to entertain them all.

The suddenness of the man grasping of her being yanked away made Kenia gasp in shock. She nearly fell over, but a kind soul caught and steadied her. She took a moment to catch her breath before looking over to see who’d helped her out of the situation. There stood Malachi with the man up against the wall. She stared at the scene in a bit of shock as she hadn’t expected Malachi to come to her rescue. She felt a strange allure towards her defender and her feet seemed to grow a mind of their own as they slowly carried her closer towards him. She stepped aside as her assailant quickly left the scene before closing the rest of the distance to Malachi. She placed herself in front of him, at a complete loss of words, as she stared up at him.

She scanned his face for a brief moment before her gaze fell upon his eyes. It was as if it were the first time she’d ever really noticed them. They were like deep pools of silvery blue water that seemed to enchant her. Without realizing it, she moved closer and closer until there were only mere inches separating their bodies. Her eyes traveled down to his lips and her heart beat wildly in her chest. She couldn’t help, but wonder what they would feel like, taste like. Before she realized what she was doing, she pressed her lips against his and the world around her seemed to slow down. A warmth filled her, but not like the warmth alcohol brought. This was something deeper, comforting, something she hadn’t felt in a very long time. Suddenly reality and realization came crashing over her like a tidal wave and she looked up at him in panic.

”I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! I...I don’t know what came over me, but I couldn’t help myself...you just...and then...I’m an idiot, I’m truly and idiot. You were just helping me and I guess I got swept up in the moment…” She was rambling like a mad person, but she feared if she stopped the rejection and revulsion for what she’d just done would come. Kenia feared that she’d just royally messed things up between him and her and soon harsh and berating woulds would pour out from him. She felt vulnerable, far more vulnerable than she’d felt in a very long time and she could only hope that he’d be kind. She still remained rather close to him despite it all, but she averted her gaze as she debated on bolting. Where would she go though? It was far to crowded in here, so she settled on remaining where she was and facing the consequences of her actions.

Malachi had been caught up in his thoughts as Kenia started to approach him. His own reaction had startled him. He had hated that man with every ounce of his being in that moment. The idea of someone hurting Kenia had driven him up a wall. It was strange how feelings could build up over time for someone and one could not notice. There was no denying them though; something was there for her that he had not felt since his wife.

He finally noticed Kenia as she took her place right in front of him. She probably thought he was crazy now. This whole time, he had always been so composed and careful with his emotions only for him to blow up in front of her like some out of control drunk. However, she said nothing of the sort. Instead, her eyes seemed to be searching his and he found he couldn’t pull his gaze away from them. They were a radiant golden color, which was something he had noticed from day one and secretly admired. Being so up close, he could notice there was a blue outline on the perimeter of her iris. It felt like looking into stars. He barely noticed her moving closer to his face since he was instinctively mimicking the movement.

Then her lips met his and the room seemed to melt away around them. It was like having a wish fulfilled he had not even known he made. Cool air once again caressed his lips instead of her warmth faster than he could move to kiss her back. He found himself instinctively frowning and glanced down at her as she started rambling; he had not seen her so flustered before. It was actually quite cute. “Shh…” Malachi gently brushed strands of hair from her face and rubbed her cheek with his thumb. It felt like a wave of heat washed over his body as he found himself pressing his lips against hers. The thought that they were in a public bar had not even crossed his mind. In that moment, he felt the need to kiss her until the two of them could not breathe anymore. His hands drifted to her waist, wanting to pull her closer, but he held off in order to allow her to decide if this was something she wanted to continue.

The reaction she got wasn’t entirely what Kenia had expected, but in fact came as a relief. His calming touch silenced her and she let out a shaky breath. Their lips met again and she felt herself melt into the kiss. She wasn’t sure if this was the alcohol prompting their actions or if this was their true feelings, but she didn’t care. That could be a worry for another day, for now she was focusing on the moment, on him. Her hands found their way up his chest until her arms lay comfortably on his shoulders and around his neck. Her body instinctively closed the remaining distance between them, wanting to feel the warmth of his body pressed against hers. As her lips moved against his she felt every worry, fear, and sadness she always had on her mind melt away. She felt safe there in his embrace. He had found her, saved her after so many years of being completely lost. He was becoming her home and if she were sober the thought may have scared her, but for tonight she welcomed it. All she wanted was to remain there in his embrace, to kiss him until they both collapsed breathless. She found herself pulling him with her until she was leaning up against the wall and he was pressed to her. One of her hands slid back down until it rested on his chest and she could feel the beat of his heart.

Malachi was used to always thinking through every action, but it felt like he had lost all sense of that, moving on pure instinct. She moved closer to him just as he had to her, conversing their emotions with each kiss and pull closer. He wrapped his arms around her and entangled a hand in her hair, barely moving away to breathe. For a moment, Malachi felt like himself and not the empty shell of a man that had pushed all his energy into defeating Aklenroth and the dark elves. Knowing their feelings were mutual, made him feel safe, like he had someone to always come back to and to trust. He knew they’d probably not act with the same amount of passion when they started to sober up, but for now he could not help but fall victim to it as this was a feeling he had not even known he missed so much.

Kenia surprised him when she led him with her to lean up against the wall, pulling him to her once again. He hadn’t untangled himself from her and instead gave in, kissing her like she was a lost lover he had not seen in years. There was no telling if this would ever happen again, so the two seemed to want to savour the moment and each other as much as possible.

Sorrel began to chuckle as Liam joked, but that was a mistake and she inhaled sharply as pain coursed through her body. She was feeling everything now and she decided it was her own pure willpower that was keeping her going when all she wanted to do was curl up and scream in pain. She followed Liam’s directions to the RV and was relieved when she was able to stop the car. Before she could even turn the engine off, people were pulling Cyrus and Luna out of the car and rushing them into the RV. No one tried to help her which she was fine with as she didn’t want to appear weak to these wolves, still having the pride of an alpha within her.

She unbuckled her seatbelt and glanced down at her now blood soaked shirt. There was no hiding the fact that she was injured so she began to get out of the car, but it was a slow task. As she stood a rush of dizziness came over her and had to support herself on the car for a moment so she didn’t collapse. When it finally passed she began to move towards Liam, one hand instinctively going to press against her open stab wound. She wasn’t moving as quickly as she normally did which frustrated her, but she did her best to not let that frustration show. ”Thank you for helping us Liam. If it weren’t for you, Cyrus and I would have most likely ended up at the hospital and that would have definitely raised questions.” She gave him a thankful smile. She was almost to the RV when the door burst open and Cyrus came rushing outside, calling for her. The urgency and concern in his voice broke something loose inside of her and she began moving towards him as quickly as her body would allow.

”I’m here. I’m fine. It’s okay.” She said as she grabbed his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Seeing him moving around brought her a tiny bit of relief, but there was still a twinge of guilt there. She found herself hugging him while speaking now. ”Es tut mir Leid. Du wurdest verletzt und es ist alles meine Schuld.”* She hadn’t initially realized she switched to speaking German as it was just something that came so naturally to her, especially when she was feeling a bit emotional. She knew he’d understand what she meant, though, and didn’t feel the need to say it again in English.

After a moment she let him go and looked up at him, feeling a wave of dizziness once again that almost had her falling over. ”I need to go inside now. I have an injury that needs fixing and Liam and his pack have been kind enough to offer to do so.” She informed Cyrus before glancing back at Liam, giving him a look that said she wasn’t doing great. She was very pale now and looked like she could pass out at any second.

* "I'm so sorry. You got hurt and it's all my fault."

Rose was a little taken aback when the response she got from the man beside her seemed dismissive. For a moment she debated on just letting it go and leaving, but something kept her from being dissuaded that easily. Perhaps it was the gaze he gave her, a deep and unusual hunger had filled them and a small part of her had a feeling she may have known why. After working in a bar that was full of supernaturals all the time, you started to be able to recognize certain tell tale signs. If she were smart, she would walk away right now in fear that he wouldn’t be able to control himself and she would become a snack. She was never known for making the smartest decisions, however, and this guy looked like he could use a friend right now.

”I’m sorry if I offended you, I was just trying to be friendly.” She said as she offered an apologetic smile. Smiles always felt awkward on her face anymore, but thankfully the alcohol was helping with that just a little bit. It made her more willing to smile and be a bit more friendly.

Her attention was soon grabbed by the fight between the bouncers and the girl she had warned earlier. She rolled her eyes, knowing that this woman would soon be put on the blacklist of Trance. She’d seen it happen before and luckily avoided that fate herself. It was when the woman started yelling that the bouncers were trying to rape her that she couldn’t stay quiet any longe. ”Oh for fucks sake, shut up! We all saw you attack them first! Stop squealing like a little pig!” She shouted it just as loudly in case anyone who hadn’t seen what happened and was considering helping her would think twice. She shook her head before turning her attention back to Cain.

”Sorry, the pit isn’t normally like this and I can’t stand when people make idiotic accusations like that.” She leaned up against the bar with a sigh. ”I’m Rose, by the way.” She introduced herself as she stuck out her hand, hoping that he’d shake it and accept her attempts at trying to be friendly. She also kept an eye out for either Violet or Felix, knowing they wouldn’t want to hang around if fights like this were breaking out here at Trance. She just hoped they’d decide to go to the Pit or something instead so their night out wouldn’t end before it began.
