In the hope to bump this for more traction, interested. Here's hoping this gets enough players to take off.
"There has to be a better way..."

A year's a lot of time. Shoulda given them three days.

After barely dodging a fireball from Ashbringer, one might think that Tsubomi would be hungry for revenge. In all honesty, she was only hungry for food that didn't come from the school, she realized as she sat in class after lunch. Snappy gave the Detention Club a year, but... Didn't that mean some of their members would have graduated before the fight? Boss lady might stick around because she has a job in town, but what about the other precipicers? She couldn't see all of them sticking around to risk their lives for girls who they might never see again. The apathetic girl was considering taking the club mascot around to random people and trying to gain new Magical Girls, but that might lead to more Light and less Dark pretty quickly. Though wouldn't Light Girls still have to fight the Ashclass members? Hmm...

The bell rung, Tsubomi having spent the entire class period on those few thoughts. As usual she slowly stood and gathered her things, though unlike usual she left the school grounds right away, not even stopping by the Clubroom. Acid Drop was relatively sure she could beat at least one of the coming enemies with her stockpile, and she wasn't sure she could put any more into her reserves, but she still was going to try. And so she found herself stalking the streets at a snail's pace, drinking in all she could without drawing attention to the lessened feelings of her food supply. After all, killing Miseria wasn't helping. It was getting to the point that she considered actually exercising, reasoning that a stronger normal state would transfer some0 benefit to her alter ego, but her lack of bodily strength and speed meant that her idea went untested.

By the time she got home, another idea struck. If she needed to get stronger, and her power came from emotions, would trying to force herself to feel be a benefit to Acid Drop? She'd have to test the hypothesis sometime...

Marrie Knight

That worked much better than Marrie had expected, but she wasn't done being underhanded yet. Lenore seemed to have her full attention on Marrie now, but also appeared to think she'd already won. What were those sayings? "An animal is most dangerous when cornered," and "If something is possible, carry on as planned. And if it isn't possible, do it anyway?" These flashed through her mind, alongside the seeming success of her gambit.

She placed her hand on Apexer's back to steady it, preparing to block with it. Or at least that's what she did her best to give the impression she was doing. She put her full focus on Lenore, brow furrowing as she put every bit of focus she could into preparing for Lenore's next attack. Though again, this was her own version of a feint. She made sure that her palm was flat against the portal on her Instrument, and cast a melody into it, attempting to keep any tell from it hidden by the side of the blade.

{Warm: Gold Projectile - Scatter- Homing - If:Foe - Damage X}

She put everything she had into this attack, including almost all of her mana, but kept her focus entirely on Lenore and staying on the defensive, trusting in her Melody's composition to do what it needed to. At the same time, she was keeping her defensive facade in case she needed to block while also mentally prepared to attack if her Melody gave her an opportunity to.

Marrie Knight

There's a little known benefit to having a shorter reach, at least Marrie thought so. That being that those with superior reach tend to use it, which gives a little more room to maneuver to the other combatant. Lenore seemed to be doing just that, and while Marrie wanted to take advantage in a certain way, her instinct took over and she failed to do so. Instead, she jumped back as far as she could, trying to keep out of the reach of the sword. As she began to move, she cursed her lack of training but prepared to try to counter whatever Lenore would do next. Ultimately, this may have been the right decision, though Marrie had no way of knowing that her opponent wasn't trying to strike with her attack.

Regardless, the wind-riding Esper turned her Instrument so that only one side was facing Lenore, trying to blind the woman's one eye with light from its reflective surface while also staying ready for a follow up attack from her sword. At least that's what seemed to be happening. Marrie didn't know if her idea would work, but if it could actually happen, things seemed to have lined up for it. She cast a Melody on the side of Apexer that was facing away from Lenore and readied herself to try to line up a follow up thrust with that very same spot.

{Warm: Gold Touch - Portal}

If nothing else, she hoped that her attempt would knock away the next attack from striking true.

Marrie Knight

BItCH? As Lenore manifested in front of Marrie, her idea to transplace with the lightning guy fell apart. Which left her with, really, just one option. She tossed her Instrument into her left hand and placed her right on the generator, casting a melody through her palm.

{Silver Touch - Portal}

With that in place, Marrie grabbed Apexer with her right hand once again, and allowed the chain to lengthen to three feet of slack. Lenore's gesture would probably have intimidated Marrie, if it weren't for the seething rage she felt from seeing the construction worker's "eyes." Instead, all that happened was the the wind-rider flipped her dagger length-wise to its backside and stood still, waiting for the nun to attack.

Sure, swords had better reach than knives, and yes, Lenore was probably better trained than the blue haired esper, but if Marrie had learned one thing in Pax, it's this: Fuck around, find out.

Marrie Knight

There was suddenly quite a lot of slack to Apexer's chain. It was bad enough that Marrie's secondary target had been able to hold her back, and worse still that her melody hadn't traveled through the chain as she'd wished, but that was a learning opportunity. Less of one was her being surrounded again by the smoke that was draining her strength. Less still was seeing the barely-breathing form of one of the construction workers.

And like a bullet to the temple, memories that she'd hoped she'd properly worked through and buried came back. She saw herself struggling against the ape-men. She felt the pain of her left arm and face being sliced, of her jaw slamming into the ground. The regret of having to kill the ape who caused her fall, the horror of just seeing the queen bee, let alone of stabbing her and being stuck in the disgusting arms of hers as it coughed up blood and died. The sight of the smeared viscera that had once been bee men under the bulldozer. The last memory to show itself was of the driver of the crane, a corpse with its head mangled some sort of magitech keeping it functioning.

The thoughts were weighing her down almost as much as the magical smoke was, but there was a single silver lining to the system shock... That now Marrie was really, fully ready to kill these people.

{Bronze Projectile - Storm - Bounce}

The thing about stones, when they're thrown, is that they're not especially fast. Lucky then that time wasn't a factor in what she was trying to do. Apexer's chain snapped back into its shortest length as a dust devil shot from it towards the ground, only to bounce around the room a few times and out the door, taking most of the smoke with it. Good thing she knew her angles. And now that she could see again, she ran as quickly as she could towards the strange generator in the center of the building, passing right by Justin. She slid around the apparently holy machine and rolled to her feet on the opposite side of the entry door, barely poking her head up over it to take stock of the situation.

Marrie Knight

Marrie stood still, ready to attack the nun if she moved. At least, that was the plan until she caught Cerberus looking towards the ground where-

Fuck. Uh... espers could survive losing a limb in esper form, maybe she'd be okay? That was the only thing she could hold onto to stop the sickness. She nearly puked anyway, before she was engulfed in smoke and found another apparent esper holding her by the shoulders.

Alright dumbass, time to get moving. The wind wielder tried to move, but she felt... off. Her muscles were weak. Something was wrong, the smoke? They're going to kill you, Marrie! Get moving! It was about then that the nuns said something about selling children.

Right. She'd only tested it once, but now was the time to try it. Pulling her Melody together, she felt herself fade away into the wind, forcing her Instrument's chain to grow to its full length and throwing it over the head of the nun behind her and running forward as she did.

{Tempest: Silver Touch - Damage X}

The instant she re-materialized 8 feet away from where she previously stood, she channeled her Damage X note through her Instrument as she stabbed towards the eye-patched Sister. In the same moment, her chain would materialize around the back of the other nun, and she retracted it to pull her forwards, hoping to either pull her off balance or hit her with the Damage X, were it able to flow through her chain, or ideally both.

"Please just die or run away, I'm sick of people like you!"

Marrie Knight

"Oh, fuck, OFF!" Marrie shouted to no-one in particular and everyone all at once. How she managed to not run into any group this heavily armed before, she didn't know. As soon as the rabbit-woman's voice rang out, she cast a melody.

{Cold: Silver Self - Flight - Storm}

With the tempest around her hopefully deflecting the bullets from reaching her, she flew straight through the smoke to the inside of the church, getting below the firing squad on the left of the entryway, where she took a second to catch her breath. The winds whipping around her helped to clear the smoke, and soon she could see her objective, namely Cerberus, and an unknown... Esper, presumably. She couldn't see a whole lot else through the twisting smoke, but she saw enough. She found herself taking the last few moments of flight to go towards the three girls inside the church proper.

Landing just a few feet away from the unknown woman, she drew Apexer from her sleeve, just in case. Maybe this would be the first enemy she could successfully parley with to prevent a fight? She doubted it. A glance over her shoulder made her worry for the male Freelancers, but she could only hope they would be able to handle themselves, since leaving Cerberus alone with a potential enemy wasn't going to happen.

"Hey, Nun lady!" She leveled her Instrument to point towards the woman's neck. "Friend or foe?"

"As your legally appointed therapist, I think you may have an issue with that girl."

You're not qualified to be a therapist, Acid.

Acid Drop's ear twitched. Something had happened back with the other two girls. There was a powerful rage coming from there, worse than she'd felt in a long time. Plus, the sound! It was a little tough to figure out Oros' feelings as she felt them with how strong the anger was, but Acid Drop managed somehow. It could have been worrying, if she could be worried, that Oros got so angry herself. When her partner finally turned to address her...

"I don't think they're 'talking,' at this point." The last question caught her slightly off-guard.

"Mm..." It took her a little while to think about it. "I remember them being annoying, but I can't say I like how slow I am without magic now. I do miss some of them, I guess. But it's hard to miss them without them, you know?" To her, it was some sort of paradox. Could you be happy that you don't have emotions? What about sad? Sure she could pretend she did when she was Acid Drop, but that wasn't the same, was it?

She tried to think back to what it was like before, but it was muddy. Was she a happy girl before? An emo, a goth, a cheerleader type? Maybe she was the same as she is now... Though she doubted that. Maybe she was just a normal girl before. "I guess I don't know for sure. Why do you ask?"

"Can robots move like that? Are there magical robots?"

Probably.

A blazing fireball came flying over her head and nearly collided with Earthshaker, but Acid Drop knew that the two other girls could handle whatever that was. But something was wrong. Oros wasn't following behind the flames. Looking further in the direction she had gone showed several more dragons in the air, though these appeared to be paper rather than metal. Had something happened? Did the dragon girl already beat Oros? Doubtful, since she wasn't acting like she had even seen her. After a glance over her shoulder towards the flower shop, she decided to press on, leaving the potential fight to the others.

It was a bit more jogging before Acid Drop caught up with her partner. She seemed to be transfixed on a girl holding the dragon kites. A girl who looked familiar, a schoolmate? Tsubomi never bothered to learn names even when she was at a high enough mental processing level to be able to, but this one was a popular girl, wasn't she?

"Heya. The girl you made a collage of showed up. Though her dragons are made of metal." Honestly, Acid Drop wasn't sure what Oros would do. And if she preferred to stay here, watching the kite holder, that would be fine. But at least now she knew that she hadn't gotten into a new fight that would be drawn in to the others.
