@ERode
Shush you~
That's just me telling you know so if something happens later I can say 'I told you not too, now time for your flogging ;P'

@CrystalApple
Alright, so if I'm reading your explanation correctly, it's sort of a more...shall we say magic designed to be used in ambushes and traps more? As in, he sets up a ritual/magic circles designed to make a spell more powerful? While that is a neat idea...it's not exactly something you would be able to use in a direct fight all that much.

Considering most of the fights are going to be at close to mid range, he's not going to have a whole lot of set-up time. And by the time he would be able to set up, the fight might very well have already been taken care of by the melee or other more direct characters. Chances are, even, our characters are going to be the ones getting the ambushing happen to them.

Plus, with these 'ingredients' of his he needs to have perform these rituals sometimes...that would make it even more...well, shall we say somewhat useless considering once he's out, he's going to be out for good unless he can just suddenly pick up the required materials from a cavern floor.

While I'm not trying to discount this magic, I think it might be better to chose something that would be a bit more viable, otherwise I don't think this magic isn't going to really be used all that often, and more or less be useless. At its best, it could be much too versatile, at its worst, it's completely useless.

Maybe that's the point of his Magic Ritual? It's a specialized ability meant to help him out in specific moments. Someone is critically injured but no one has powerful healing spells? Set up a magical ritual to assist in enhancing his healing magics and save their ass. There's a giant ass monster sleeping beside them that no one can kill in one shot? Have him set up his magical ritual to achieve peak damage potential, before everyone else works to aggro the giant ass monster away from him. Big wall in the way? Magic ritual to blow it up.

And the materials thing is probably also intentional: that way, there's a limit to what's basically a free amplification of his abilities. Sorta like One Strike's one use per day shenanigans.

Not everyone wants to have all their stuff be super viable and 'meta'~

Hmmm... That may be true if we be using chalk/charcoal alone but what about drawing these magic circles with magic itself lol, consuming a bit of mana to create these circles in the moment which will decrease the net cost of the spell in exchange for a little bit of a waste in the beginning. In this sense, for every spell he cast this 'preparation time' is reduced to channeling the energy needed and control of the casting process. It'd take a few seconds to create these circles from magic and a few more to release the spell after the prerequisite are met. (At worst it would take about a several minutes to basically 'construct' a ritual circle along with additional time needed to cast the spell maybe)

This path is also an option that can be pursued as well, besides the 'magic circles made out of magic' spam for every spell. It's viable once my character's repertoire of magic increased, but until then would be greatly limited to arcane magic which I don't mind. Which will actually have to force my character to create a ritual circle physically and use materials as well rather than spam magic circles everywhere instead. (Basically, to not water down the effects, making it 'special' if not more situationally viable)

Oh, I agree. I thought of everything like that - and he can certainly have it if he wants it - I just thought I would let them know, it's going to be quite...difficult to use.

I was just giving my opinion as the GM, and saying that he probably won't be able to use this magic except in specific situations. I honestly quite like the idea of that, myself and wouldn't mind if that's the way it was used.

@CrystalApple
If that's what you were going for, then that's fine.

It's going to need some more limitations other than 'takes longer to cast' or needs 'specific ingredients', though. I'm not going to be letting him cast a fire, lighting, and ice spell of some sort right after another that has more power than a normal spell - at least right at the beginning, not without one or two more limitations or drawbacks.

It would veer much to on the 'way to versatile' side in terms of usage. (I would suggest in that case, making the individual spells somewhat weaker instead of more powerful than normal to compensate for that versatility, and only give him access to perhaps two different types of 'elemental rituals' to begin with.)

Now, later on he could certainly cut down on casting time, and be able to have much more versatile spells.

Basically, I'm asking that you spell out some more specific limitations for this ability if you want to be able to 'draw magic circles' on the air, if you will.

Personally, I think what ERode suggested would be the best course of action here as far as this sort of magic goes.

I've might of worded it wrong but if your being confused on the part which says 'As long as you have the knowledge to specify what is needed to be cast' means what he already knows. Meaning that for the moment, he can only empower his Arcane magic with the Ritual Magic currently but as he learns more magic, he can amplify them yes. It essentially is increasing the energy gathered to generate more force behind it so yes, he won't start with any elemental spells until he learns them. ERode's idea is also a good if this starts getting too troublesome lol.

As for drawbacks, once we start branching out into elemental magic if we focus Ritual Magic on power there is the problem of brute strength over finesse which might imply friendly-fire, arcane magic I see so far as no way to unintentionally harm allies with it unless they run into it literally. Using the ritual circles for control does exactly just that and has generally no drawbacks just burns some time... Using both power and control consumes the most time out of the two depending on what's cast as your creating extra luggage to be carried at the same time. Larger spells more than 5 ft depending on the element when I unlock it when using ritual magic will take several minutes and increase in size as well.

(Im also fine with just limiting Ritual Magic with Arcane Magic and leaving Elemental Magic untouched until a later date. I think I can do much even with only Arcane Magic or just straight out specialize in Arcane Magic so we can teleport latter instead of walking, thank god.)

I wonder if Ophene is going to make an exception in not caring of one's background in Nazr's case. The women in the party may be intimidated by his appearance. (Inb4 pervy jokes.)

I hope we get at least one more front line type of character. Mine is the only one that's not... Well, squishy. And I had to modify him from a rogue first cx

@Lauder Well that's assuring to hear. I mean it doesn't even need to be tanky, just more "front line". Because I feel like my character would just draw ALL the aggro. And you know, dying is not a fun thing. In a big boss fight I'll just be running around trying not to die shouting "KILL IT DAMMIT IT'S GAINING ON ME."

@RedDusk Well we do have a healer, the one with the rapier and fire. The bunny lady. And my character heals by himself (slowly but surely for now). But your character is perfect for front line. It's mostly just aggro and holding their own in a melee fight while supports do damage from the back

By the way, well made character I must say
