Kasuke Mina
Yashiro, Takeshi
Takeshi had spent a little time putting his things away while placing her sister's luggage neatly on her bed for her to go through when she got up. First thing he did was pull out the stands for their swords and placed their swords gently on their place in a reverent manner. He then continued to place all of his clothes into the closet. Then he unpacked his armor, placing it on the bed as he then started to undress. He put some black Gi pants on while only wearing a white tank top. A few nasty scars that looked like sword cuts or stab wounds could be seen from what the tank top didn’t cover. Deciding to get some training in before dinner which was called out. Reaching for bokken, he jogged out of the dorm after closing his door.
Joann turned herself around and started to head towards the gymnasium, it looked like she’d get something pretty to look at after all, JoJo cracked a slightly smile in satisfaction and continued her jog now with a destination. While on her way there she couldn’t help but remember what happened this morning, that she all but destroyed an entire section of it in an outburst of energy. She briefly stopped to look down at her hands, she could feel her quirk under her skin passing electrical jolts from one fingertip to the other and all the way up her arms, down to her feet and back up to her head. Even her eyes felt jittery which was normal her quirk increased her action and reaction speed so much so when it got high enough her body stopped checking with the brain and moved on basic instinct. It took JoJo a second to notice she had been standing there thinking about this for a while and took to running a bit faster towards the gym, the faster motion charged her quirk more and soon enough random jolts of electricity could be seen flying from her steps every so often, only stopping when she reached the door leading to the inside of the gym.
Mina was close behind, keeping up even when Joann started to run faster. The smaller girl hadn’t been inside the gym at all today, so was a little bit curious to see what it looked like. Maybe she could do a little workout to shake off the mental fatigue and stretch her muscles out to recover from the morning’s exercise.
Takeshi already knew the school grounds like the back of his hand. It was habit for him to study out his area where he would be spending most of his days for many reasons. Despite the blunder that happened that morning with Reina, he knew exactly where to go. As he came to the door of the gym he noticed a girl with what seemed to be electricity sparking around her. Raising an eyebrow, as he wondered if that was natural or she was just angry or something, about to let out some steam. Either way, she would be interesting to fight. Those with electrical quirks were incredibly fast themselves, or just their attacks. Both were great for training as he was quick, it was always good to train yourself to be even faster. He had also noticed another blonde girl running with her, however she had no visible quirks though she did look very athletic. Perhaps she would prove to have an interesting quirk as well.
He came up behind both of them and got both of their attentions while clearing his throat
” Excuse me... He said politely and waited for them to turn around.
”My name is Yashiro Takeshi, I am looking for someone to spar with, perhaps either of you can indulge me? He said with a slight bow, while his eyes continued to look at both of them. He did notice two others, who were in his class of Villain studies, were already sparring as well.
Joann turned around in a flash, if she had long hair it would have smacked him across the face. Admittedly, she was only going to the gym to see if it was repaired, but she has been itching for a scrap since she didn’t get to fight that mouthy girl in the courtyard. Just like the trio in the courtyard she had never seen the black hair male student neither had she met the two fellow students duking it out already in an arena, just how many students attended this school was all could think at this moment. When she finally snapped back to reality the male was bowing to her politely and asking her to be his sparring partner.
“Sure, I don’t use those gadgets, though but you can if you want, ” she explained, shrugging, turning around and walking deeper into the gym
“I’ll be waiting for you in one of the rings”Mina’s reply however, was a weary sigh.
”You two knock yourselves out. I came here to recover from a fight, not to have another one. I’ll be over at the machines, watching,” she responded, before heading to the locker room to change.
Takeshi only gave a hint of a smile before she started walking. Looking towards the blond as she declined he gave her a nod then quickly followed the first girl.
All I need is my Bokken. He simply said as he followed her to the ring. He figured he would at least though start without it, She seemed like a somewhat trained fighter by the look of her build. Once in the ring he slid his bokken into his sash and stretched his arms for a quick moment before taking a very relaxed defensive posture. His arms were not up all the way, but more near his waist. Not that he was over confident, but if she was indeed another well trained fighter, perhaps she would note his sloppy form.
”I’m ready, when you are.”His stance earned a smirk from her, causing her to look over to the side, it reminded her of her dad when he would train with her as a kid; it was sloppy and full of holes, perfect for a beginner to learn to pick it apart. JoJo wasn’t too keen on being taken lightly, but if he was trying to measure her up, she’d just have to do the same, placing her leg foot farther in front of the right and her guard more at a tilted angle performing the Orthodox boxing stance. Ducking down low she decided to test his reaction speed, all at once JoJo disappeared in a burst of electrical discharge before reappearing a few inches in front of him moving her right arm forward to punch him. The right jab was slow much slower than she would normally throw it, but it was a feint, if he moved to dodge it in the correct way then her left hook would catch him across the upper jaw line.
Despite his stance, his muscles were tense, ready to spring into action. From what he gathered, knowing she had an electrical quirk, he was prepared for speed. Still. It gave him a bit of a shock when she suddenly appeared in front of him. Damn that was fast. His eyes quickly assessed the situation with her throwing a right jab, he swept his arm up to block it but he did notice her footing twisting for her left side, as it would for a more powerful punch. It was a feint, and he ducked down just barely missing her left fist. He used this moment to roll forward and to the side, just to her left. Rolling to his and raising his arms once again into a defensive position (Slightly higher this time but not much). But he did not press forward. He still wanted to see more of her fighting style, to judge her weakness. His face was blank as he watched her.
Despite his relaxed stance, he concluded that she was going for a feint and just barely was able to dodge her left hook albeit barely. This left her wide open for a counter attack to which the boy didn’t take it giving Joann enough time to pull back her punch before it was fully extended out there, reeling back her left she switch her boxing stance to southpaw in seconds she was getting faster per action even with her blink technique that she just used. Two steps back and one to the right getting her body realigned to send out another combination of straight jabs leading with the right jab two of which were who on punched the last was another feint that would lead into a left uppercut, these were basic attacks to test out how good he was and to see if she could force him to bring out his quirk.
He was impressed when she changed her stance to southpaw. Not many fighters could do that, not that he was a boxer, but to change up one’s stance smoothly like that without thinking proved she was a competent fighter. When she followed up with basic attacks after her first one, also made it clear that she was feeling him out as well. He had a few things going for him, she didn’t know how his quirk, and that he trained highly in hand to hand. He was just saving his strength at the time being, by moving his head back and forth at her strikes. Just enough for them to not connect.
However, her last move, the uppercut grazed his jaw as pulled his head back to dodge it. He fell backwards on purpose to his left side, reaching back with his left arm to catch himself long enough for him to twist his hip and launch a kick towards her head. If it connected or not he would use the momentum of the twist to use his left foot to propel him away from her in a roll to his feet.
JoJo could feel that grazed him connecting with his chin slightly, retracting her fist she dipped lower and moved in on him giving chase even though he was falling back. Her eyes darted over his body, noticing that he could have stopped himself long before and this gave away the fact he was going for another attack, though her brain was already being overloaded with the combat her body was picking up the slack. When the kick was launched JoJo put up her forearm to block it, then before he could perform anything else she wrapped her arm around his lower thigh. Twisting her body, she used her quirk enhanced strength and speed to not only lift him up by the leg but use the momentum to send him flying a short distance towards the edge of the arena. The very second he left her grasp Joann put up her guard and sprinted after him, giving a light leap up and cocking her fist back performing a flying haymaker aimed right for his jaw. This admittedly left her completely open should he dodge or counterattack, as nothing about her quirk protected the girl from aerial or long distance combat.
Takeshi’s eyes narrowed as she gripped his legs, she had insane reflexes to catch his leg with that feint of a fall. Also she had a lot more strength than he imagined with someone with a quirk like hers, he tried to resist being thrown and launching a swift kick to her stomach with his free foot, but it wasn’t fast enough as he found himself in the air. Twisting his body into a somersault before landing on his feet and right knee, facing the girl once again. When he laid eyes on her once more, he saw she was already racing towards him, jumping into the air to deliver powerful punch towards his face. Most would try to block or get out of the way, but she was left open with her haymaker. A reckless move. With surprising speed on his part, he pushed forward a few steps to close the gap between them ducking his head while keeping his eyes on his target and jabbed his left forearm forward. Using his right hand to grip his left hand to brace it and make it all the more stronger, along with his knees locking into position, while using the space between his bicep and forearm of his left arm to protect his face from her attack if she managed to readjust enough to him. His eyes were barely visible from behind his arm as he aimed his attack for her sternum.
Her eyes saw what was coming, even her brain told her what to do in this situation if she be on the ground, she could have done something instead of putting up a weak guard with her free arm to protect her chest area. The punch he threw connected the force of which provided enough stopping power to slow her aerial charge to get her feet back on the ground faster when she landed, which wasn’t too far away from her intended target. All this motion only served to feed her quirk more, she was getting faster and stronger and it was starting to get noticeable to the naked eye as electricity surged around her body in violent intervals. She hit the ground with both feet firmly under her and not even half a second from landing, she was already closing the gap between them yet again guard up to protect her upper body. Once in range JoJo put her left leg in front of her right and went for a swift low kick aimed at his thigh which would be followed up with a high kick that would be directed at his face, it didn’t matter if she only grazed him now the violent storm surrounding her body would give him a shock.
He noticed how much faster she was getting, when she kicked at him low, he met her kick with a block with his leg. A sudden shock ran through him. Wincing as it corsed through him, he still pushed through it and ducked at the second moving away for a moment. As he shook his leg while he assessed the situation. She seemed to be getting stronger as long as she was moving. Fast as well. He could do two things. Keep dodging her attacks and hopefully be fast enough to do so. Or immobilize her quickly. He instantly thought of his Bokken, it being wood, the electricity would not conduct through it. He could use his quirk as well to cover his arms and legs so he can still land punches on her with the shadows providing that required insulation. Or he could use it to lock her foot to the ground. He didn’t think long as he didn’t want to give her time to react so he rushed forward. Seemingly being stupid enough to attack her head on again after being shocked. At the last possible moment, he reached for his bokken and swung fast and hard upwards, aiming for her chin, he would quickly follow up with two more attacks from the right then left. Each strike was powerful yet highly controlled, the clear signs of a highly train swordsman showing now.
Joann grinned when he ran right for her, she was fight happy not stupid and he seemed entirely too well trained to do something so foolish which meant he obviously had a trick up your sleeve. The girl slowed her stride down just enough for her eyes to catch exactly what he was doing and that was taking out some form of object she assumed was a gadget, as he swung it upward she pushed her body low to the ground so fast what looked like an afterimage was created and by the time his right and left strikes connected with the image dispelling it her fist was already cocked back and her body rocketed upward in an attempt to deliver a devastating uppercut. Even if she didn’t connect Joann would disappear just like the beginning of the fight in a field of discharged electricity and appear right behind him sending a flurry of love taps at his joints designed to penetrate through the skin with the electricity and lock up his movement for a little bit thus slowing him down tremendously.
He moved his head back to dodge the uppercut and saw that she suddenly disappeared, Logically the next attack would come from behind, remembering how she was so fast with that first attack. He spun to slash, but he was too slow as the electricity surged through him. His teeth clenched tightly, most men would probably yelp in pain at the sudden charge running through them. But Takeshi was raised in pain, as the scars on his body proved. While this did make it harder for him to move, he pushed through it with a surge of strength, slashing once, across the torso, and another downwards, to her knees, trying to clip the back of them to cause them to buckle.
She lost some speed, but her adaptive instincts still caught onto what he was doing but at this point being so close and so easy go score a real heavy hit she just went for and decided to take the punishment. He was trained better than she was being that her father was quirkless, but the one thing he did for her was teaching her how to take a punch and keep on going, she fell off cliff sides and mountain ranges just to get back up to try again. She pressed on forward as JoJo didn’t want to actually use her blink again and reduce her speed even more so instead she reared her head back and plunged herself to meet him head to head on quite literally. She took those slashes at her knees, however her course never faltered catching him mid action like Joann was on track to smash her forehead on his focusing her energy on a single focal point of impact and shoot the energy outward upon contact from her body throughout his, the action could paralyze him momentarily, cause immense pain or just numb the boy’s body.
Takeshi managed the two hits, but it was clear she was pushing through them. She did not have his level of training, but more brutal force with the ability to take the hits. He saw her rear her head back, anyone could, In his mid swing though he had moved his head to the side away from her headbutt. But she was already in motion when he clipped her legs. Her head slammed into upper chest, just in the crook of his shoulder. The blow caused him to stagger back as he felt like he was stabbed through the shoulder with pure electricity. He lost all feeling in his left arm as his hand went slack to his side while his right hand still held his Bokken. He tried with all his might to move his left arm, inspecting his shoulder quickly to make sure he wasn’t stabbed even though he knew it was just her forehead. His attention quickly went back to the matter at hand as he took the chance while she was on the ground, He leaned down quickly and slashed towards the side of her head and neck, he was planning on stopping the bokken mere centimeters from her if it were to work.
Mina stopped doing doing situps in the corner as she watched the fight, and sat up, giving things her full attention now. This fight had slowly gotten more and more impressive, and Mina was almost starting to want to join in, but she still felt fatigued and achy from fighting underground, and they were exerting a lot themselves. To start fighting one of them now would not be fair or enjoyable, so she stayed sitting where she was, and watched attentively.
Joann did indeed fall after that headbutt in fact she landed square on the ground face first creating a loud thud once she hit. However, instead of taking the time to reassess herself after taking self-inflicted damage the little spark plug turned around on her back just as he was coming down with his sword. She didn’t move enough to dodge it, but she had the reflexes and speed thanks to her quirk to react just enough, quickly stretching all five of her fingers upward like an blade JoJo projected an electrical construct to shoot from her fingertips. Exorcising all the restraint she had forced the ‘blade’ to stop at his neck extending the kindness he showed her.
“Draw?” she asked panting rapidly trying to catch her breath, hand shaking a little as this was the first time she’d ever exorcised this much control over her quirk. If he didn’t agree quick, fast and in hurry one of the two things was going to happen, she’d lose control over the blade and end up piercing him which would in turn cause his sword to go right through her throat, or the blade itself with disappear turning the draw into a complete loss.
Takeshi stood there as they held their weapons to each other throats. He noticed how she was shaking, which was dangerous as her weapon was far more deadlier than his bokken. The students here were reckless and threw their quirk around like it wouldn’t kill anyone. They didn’t understand what it meant to kill someone. They all had it easy. If they truly knew how deadly their own quirk where, they would try to be more careful on when and where they use it.
While his left arm was completely numb and unresponsive, he was far from finished. He had yet to use his own quirk. While one could argue it was foolish not to use his own quirk to defend himself, whereas he might have not been in this position. Despite her position with her construct at his neck, he still was in a far superior position. He could easily move away, strike her face with his foot or knock her her arm away with his bokken. He still wasn’t exhausted like the girl at the end of his wooden Bokken.
While their eyes were focused on each other he gathered his own shadow moved on the ground below their eyesight and repositioned just enough and gathered into a small square. He raised an eyebrow as he then said, “Hardly.” before suddenly the shadow shoot out from the ground, knocking her hand with her ‘weapon’ while pulling his head to the right and flicking his bokken to give her a good tap on the cheek.
She saw everything coming but couldn’t actually do anything about it given her position at the moment, she really wanted him to just agree to the tie because she couldn’t hold this anymore. The second he smacked the hand that was controlling the weapon it all just went south, once her hand moved even an inch she lost the connection and the ‘sword’ exploded created a large orb of violent energy that spread out in all angles. Using the explosion as a diversion JoJo quickly made up to her feet rolling her shoulder then began to look at her hand trying to figure out just how she managed to do the blade trick. Look up and looking right back down she put both hands in the air and yawned “I give” she said before moving her hands back down into her pockets.
Takeshi closed his eyes at the explosion his left arm coming up to block the light. While his body automatically brought his bokken up in a defensive position when she would attack. Though when he locked eyes on his target he saw her looking down at her hands confused. Apparently it was clear she used an advanced technique that she had no control over. This angered Takeshi, It was just to be a spar, but she used a dangerous technique. Then she was so carefree and didn’t care about what she just did. He slipped his bokken into his sash once more and looked at his arm as he felt pins and needles all over it as the feeling started to come back.
”Idiot...” he said shaking his head, not even giving her a proper bow as one would at the end of a spar. It wasn’t a spar anymore.
”Next time you pull a stupid stunt like that, I won’t hold back like I did.” He should have just cracked her in the skull with his bokken. A simple lesson he and all his siblings learned doing something stupid. It would be one thing if they were fighting at full strength with the consent to as hard as they would, like they would in the exams, but a simple spar, this was uncalled for.
”Learn how to control your quirk before you use it on someone. You can kill someone being that careless and stupid while fighting, that’s not what heroes do.” he said as he walked out of the ring.
JoJo snickered as she turned around and headed for the exit of the ring
“Holding back, now who’s the idiot, I do what I want and will continue to do so,” she explained, folding her arms around her head after rolling her shoulders
“Someone sounds afraid of their quirk and live experiment some of us don’t have the luxury, besides it all turned out fine” she yawned again. She was taught that a fight even on friendly terms was a fight you make sure the other person is face down on the floor or you can’t move anymore, there were plenty of times where her father left a ten year old Joann face down on the living room floor to pick herself back up
“Hiding behind that wall of ‘discipline’ and trying to be careful is going to get you killed one day and makes you look stuck up” JoJo finished before leaving
Mina had been watching the whole fight. They were both very good fighters, but the end proved they had a major ideological difference, and in Mina’s opinion, they were both wrong, and both right, in that everything they said about each other was mostly true. Joann was a loose canon who just shrugged off an experiment with a dangerous quirk that, if failed, could have really hurt her opponent. That wasn’t the bad part. The bad part was her attitude. ‘Of course I risked your life. I need to get stronger. Suck it up.’ It was incredibly selfish and rubbed Mina up the wrong way. But the boy was even worse. Threatening her because she threw a curveball, and acting like this wasn’t heroic. What did he think the villains he fought were going to do? Go easy on him and have a fair fight? If Mina was having a friendly spar with another classmate, she wouldn’t even ask the question ‘will this action seriously hurt my opponent?’ because if their inability to defend themselves puts them in the nurse’s office, she’ll have done them a massive favor and they’ll never make that mistake again. She’d never, ever risk their life, though.
Scowling, Mina walked up to Joann as she left the ring.
”You do know there are practice facilities at this school for getting a handle on quirks and controlling them until they’re safe, before you use live students as guinea pigs, right?”With that said, she entered the ring and walked up to Takeshi.
”And you. Never threaten somebody else like that. This is a school. We’re still learning, and accidents can teach the other person something about avoiding attacks as much as they teach the culprit about the need to control. Either way, threatening to deliberately hurt a girl and a classmate for real? That’s not what Heroes do.” Walking away with her trademark cold, haughty manner, the rich girl had just schooled both of them on what true ‘stuck up’ looked like.
“Training simulators and little robot toys, are only going to get you so far all the stuff is designed with safety in mind; if you want to get better and keep getting better you learn and develop in motion and push for it with everything you have” Joann said back with a shrug having zero intentions of apologizing for something she felt should come natural to everyone here
“If you’re afraid of getting hurt don’t get on the bike, if you’re afraid of hurting someone don’t come to this school, if you’re afraid to push yourself and grow in motion don’t consider yourself a player and stay on the sidelines; you’re a man suck it up and quit crying” she explained before continuing to walk herself off back to the dorm.
He sighed as the girls were naive to what he was saying.
“You two obviously do not know the meaning of a spar. A mock battle where the worst thing you could give your opponent is a concussion/ using your quirk in a non lethal way. “ he said loud enough for them to hear as they were walking away.
“Live training is where you are actively trying to hurt your opponent without trying to kill them. But. Being reckless with a move you cannot control on another person is not training. It’s pure stupidity. A real battle where your life is on the line is a different beast altogether. While you still shouldn’t use a move you can’t control, unless absolutely necessary. We are to apprehend the villains, not stoop down to their level and kill them.”Aiming his next sentence at Jojo.
“I am not afraid to use my quirk, I know my limitations and I know my strengths. While I still train as much as I can to build it, I will not risk the lives of my fellow students to fulfill my own agenda to become stronger, again that is what a villain does. I also wouldn’t be criticizing my choice not to use my quirk till necessary. I was holding my own without it.”His eye twitched as he felt burning on his arm, glancing down he noticed the 3rd degree blisters forming on his arm from that last explosion. Though he didn’t cry out in pain, or try to hold it. His face was almost that of emotionalist. He had far worse injuries dealt by his own father.
Looking to Mina,[color=bc8dbf] “do not dare put words into my mouth. I would never intentionally hurt a student. I would have just have knocked her out instead of halting my blow to her neck. Do not speak of me like I will, I will not have my name sullied like that.” Mina’s response was to simply look over her shoulder, with a barbed smile, and reply
”Or what? You ‘won’t hold back’ with me either?” Before heading into the girl’s locker room.
