"Petal FINAL BANISHMENT!"

The thirteen year old girl spun in a circle, her skirt flickering in the wind as her teammates surrounded her, joining their powers together in a final, cataclysmic moment. Their staffs, swords, wands, and other magical implements touched together as their power cojoined - their previous conflicts forgotten as their realization that they must work together to defeat thier foes physically manifesting as a great, magical power! Spirals of green and blue circled around their foe, containing him.

The ghost let out a screech as the girls, together, finished banishing it with the Power of Friendship©. The city was saved!

It was over, but the girls looked at eachother. "Friends forever, yeah?" They all nodded and cheered eachother on, smiling. The futures for them would be bright and wonderful!

At least if Nusami hadn't gotten knocked up at sixteen. Dropping out of school to take care of her child, all the previous grandeur from being a hero hadn't helped her out. The town didn't know their identities - their alternate costumes hid that clearly, so no one was going to help her. At twenty when she finally wanted to move away to find better prospects, she found herself unable to leave. The Power of Friendship© stopped her, after all. They had sworn they would be friends forever, and now their words would force them to be. It didn't matter that at 25 one of them married an abusive millionaire, or that another had become an ex-convict, or that she was working at a fast food chain at 32 because she didn't have a highschool diploma. They were all TOGETHER after all, and isn't that what mattered?

Essentially the idea is that magical girls - like those from Madoka Magica, Tokyo Mew Mew, ect. are now grown up. Their powers haven't disapeared though, they've grown older, and their costumes and abilities are as cringe as they've always been - how did they decide on those getups before?!

A new evil is rising, and the group finds themselves once again forced to use the Power of Friendship© to defeat it! The only problem is, they have lives of their own, they aren't really friends, and the Power of Friendship© forces them to remain in the city (or at least not leave for overly long periods of time)!

I would prefer characters who have actually lived lives - and had/made a few bad (and good) things happen. By the time someone is in their 30s they probably don't have a perfect track record. I expect this to be a good blend of situational humor, slight darkness, and a little bit of seriousness.

Any takers?

NOTE: The backgrounds given were just examples. Undoubtedly some of the magical girls grew up to be largely normal functioning adults.

@SilverPaw I didnt' want to throw too much more in yet - just wanted to see if people would be up for the general idea more than anything else. I've never seen an anime with the magicial girls actually being adults, so I'm curious to see what sort of interest there would be before I come up with more.

Magical Women - What happens when you hit 30?

Answer: The Magical (Mean) Girls make fun of you for being old.

EDIT: Now that I actually took time to read it and not just make a stupid joke, it's interesting. Never done this type before because the last one I tried to do died in the interest check. Literally only Magical Girl experience I have is Sailor Moon and montrose.is/sgvy both of which I never finished. The former because Fox Kids cancelled it before they finished dubbing it and I never did bother to getting subs, did finish the Live Action one they did. The later is still on going but when I stopped reading it the updates were super sporadic I would not check for long periods of time and often have to go back at least a couple of updates or more just to catch up (updates being numerous pages at a time).

It's intriguing as is. In fact, as soon as I read the title and first post I had this very brief idea of an alcoholic pop into my mind. My upcoming semester might drain me of time/energy though...Anyways, the challenge of keeping a good balance between humour and suffering seems pretty interesting.

I'm thinking Magi Gil (placeholder name with a joke built in :p) went to college and got a practical degree like accounting not inpractical degree like art, but life has thrown her a curve ball and the only job she can get is at a grocery store that pays so shitty is still living with her parents. Maybe suffers from PTSD.

Also like in SGVY can a dude be turned into a girl to become a Magical Girl?

@AtomicNut I mean, it is. Or are you implying it possibly doesn't exist? 0.o

@Burning Kitty I think it's more important to understand the general basics than any specific plot - i.e. transformations, Power of Friendship©, and general overall themes of the genre. As for boys becoming girls, the idea is the plot (the regular story) has already happened 18ish years ago - and it was supposed to be a pretty normal, mundane, expected one for those who are genre savvy (although obviously fantastical for any normal people at the time). If they would have transformed from a boy to a girl, they would be used to it by now. I don't think it'd be as interesting of a plot device, but you can try and convince me.

@SilverPaw Hope classes don't get too bad, but stay on board while you can! Anyways, an alcholic is the sort of thing I'm looking for - especially if it's starting to get into the life ruining category.

@PaulHaynek Not yet, but maybe in the future.

@AtomicNut@Burning Kitty@Stern Algorithm@PaulHaynek@SilverPaw@Rune_Alchemist@Pyromania99@shagranoz

Alright, so some things to clarify for those with interest. These are up for discussion, but it's just to give you an idea of what I'm thinking.

-As they've already defeated a great evil in the past and had their failures and triumphs, we will refer to their original adventure as ... the original adventure. The original adventure occurred 20 years ago - so if your character was 13 for the original adventure, they would now be 33.
-The 'Anime' of the original adventure is closer to Tokyo Mew Mew or Sailor Moon than Madoka Magica in tone. So while your powers may have drawbacks, it should be something that would be brought up in one of those animes (although now the price may appear much higher than before). Also, the powers themselves should generally have the ability to be pretty, as according to those shows. So for example, someone who derives power from stabbing themselves repeatedly and using their blood to attack a foe would not be something I'm looking for.
-This will be taking place on an American West Coast City with a lot of immigrants so you can easily play a character who is(was?) an immigrant earlier in life. As a whole, the setting is going to accommodate the characters rather than the other way around, so I think it's more important to get the characters in first. It's one of the reasons the OP doesn't have too much detail.
-Your character has lived a life by the time they are in their 30s. A few good, and probably some bad things have happened to them. Here is some food for thought.
  • 60% of American Women are married by 30. A survey from huffingtonpost (obviously not perfect) shows that only 28.9% are childfree.
  • What Vices do they have? This is where the more serious part of the RP comes in - a lot of people have problems with drugs or drink or simply keeping their lives on track. Or maybe your character is relatively successful, but is now part of a Super Evangelical family that acts in a stereotypical manner.
  • They are probably cringing at their former selves - I cringe at my 13 year old self, and I'm only 22.
  • They have probably grown apart from a lot of their former teammates, and fought (emotionally) at least once with each of them. They might have some of the same flaws, but they are probably toned down a bit.
  • Your character probably has started their career, if their life isn't so ruined that they can't get into one (or if they are stay-at-home or similiar)

So here's what I want from you guys:

-Ideas for the Team Name. We'll vote on it, so have some fun with this one! If anyone has some basic ideas for the original adventures, propose them!
-Before any formal character sheet, give me your 1 paragraph character pitch. (Their power and team role [tank, support, fighter, ect.], their childhood/personality during the original adventure, a couple major life events, and where they are now, major vices, ect.). I'd prefer not to do full CSs because this gives us time to adjust to eachother and make sure the team is balanced personality/power wise ect.
-After the character pitches are in (hopefully in the next 48 hours) we'll each describe how we think our characters will relate to each other- probably how they were before, one major conflict (even if they've 'gotten over it'), and where they are now. Very few relationships go on for 20 years without any sort of issue, and many of them simply grow apart.

Get going! I'll try and fill whatever roles seem unused.

The Case of Lucy Galbrett, age 32

Lucy Galbrett was always a girl with a keen sense of justice, born to a household where daddy was a police officer. A sort of a runt of the group, she had issues with her confidence and an habit to follow the lead of more proactive types. She was more a support character than a frontline fighter due to healing abilities. After everything was said and done, Lucy resumed her life and tried to chase her father's exploits in lawkeeping. Having been a healer in a team of magical girls, both callings intertwined in a rather ... peculiar manner. She decided to become a forensic pathologist, rather than a policeman, and sought to study that field. There isn't a day where she regrets her decision. Forensic staff aren't popular. They're shown the cruel side that the world is often blissfully unaware, and they have to perform their duties admirably. So, she is still unmarried and childless at her age, much to the chagrin of others. Almost all her ties to her fellow magical girls have burned and crashed, after telling them in no uncertain terms to zip it, children raising woes cannot even begin to compare to seeing a serial killer running rampant during a particularly hard investigation. She hits the bottle more than she should and her patience with fools has wore really thin outside her job.

TLDR: Cure Kid becomes Morgue Dweller.

@RabidAnubis

You already know my basic idea, but I'll post here for everyone else.

Isana Sieger, Age 30

Originally born and raised in Germany, Isana came to the states because of financial problems her family was having back home. Hoping to start a new life and start over. The typical american dream, to most. Unfortunately, it only sort of worked. When she was ten, she became a magical girl on an off chance meeting with another. She quickly took a liking to it, and was considered by many to be one of the best frontline specialists out there, thanks to her offense oriented earth manipulation abilities. She was the kind that was the first one in, and the last one out.

Mostly because she had a penchant for taking her aggressions out on the baddies they were fighting.

20 years later, after the death of the magical girl that introduced her to the world, Isana blames her 'friends' for that, whatever the cause. Now she's just a simple office worker, working 9-5 as an IT specialist at a company with a degree in business. Her life isn't particularly bad, but she absolutely hates it. It's boring. Really boring. Some days she just wants to go back to the good 'ol days and whack a monster in the face with her sword. The only thing that stops her from doing this, is money.

Yep, Money.

Isana's a greedy bitch. She likes the cash, and has made strides to excel at her company and is currently in the hotseat for a promotion after a few questionable moral decisions.

TL;DR The good 'ol always have your back girl becomes greedy back-stabbing corporate drone with a gambling habit.

Here's my girl, been thinking all day. :)

Alice Augustine, Age 30

Alice was raised in a wealthy house-hold, as the only daughter of a rich businessman. She was a happy, energetic child despite the fact that her parents were never around. She was typically by herself for most of the time so she had plenty of time to play. Her grades were fairly average, which didn't really bother her parents. She wasn't the one they were grooming to take over the company. Soon enough, she found interest in singing and often practiced by herself. It was fun, singing songs even if it were just to herself. She liked to think she did well though she couldn't be amazingly objective.

Eventually, she became a magical girl by some stroke of luck. It helped cure her boredom for sure, and she enjoyed the company. Her power was also linked to her joy of music, so that was great. Her words held power in them, strengthening her allies and weakening enemies. She could also direct her words to making music note-like projectiles that exploded into sonic booms. If she felt like it, she could make them instead be words of power for her friends. She was great at supporting her friends in the back and could fight somewhat when she needed. Her outfit even included a microphone that projected her voice. She also seemed to have slight mesmerizing abilities, enthralling others with her song.

After her and the other magical girls finished their fight against evil, she graduated school and found herself trying to become a Voice Actress. She found herself successful in finding many lead roles, though she wondered if her magical girl powers were a part of that. In addition, she found over her years with the other magical girls that she was actually into girls. Into her adult years, she found that she enjoyed "being with" multiple woman. A man in a similar predicament would likely be called a Womanizer. She also had an uncanny knack for either finding other women that would accept her, or turn them into women that liked women like her. Either way, she had multiple casual relationships.
