Asteria

Mei appeared to be entirely too involved in dissecting the lizard’s corpse and fiddling with its removed poison sac to notice anything else. Shaking her head at her sibling’s eccentricities, Asteria made her way towards their Mother, nuzzling into her to wake her up if she wasn’t already. She waited patiently in case Mother wanted to have her breakfast from one of the lizard’s corpses. Then, she did her best to imitate what Mei had done the previous night, and attempted to communicate with Mother. Asteria nudged the larger Dire rat lightly, walked a few paces away from her, her head swinging from glancing at her Mother to gesturing to the rest of the cave, hoping to convey that she wanted her to follow. “Come,” she said, hoping it would help get Mother to do as she wished. Slowly, Asteria begun making her way to where the Dire rat family had encountered the pair of Wisps and another Dire rat the previous evening. Eventually, she picked up her speed, whether her Mother followed her or not, enjoying the wind ruffling her fur, the light jog energizing her. Unfortunately, the cave wasn’t an environment where one could take too much time to enjoy even life’s simplest pleasures.

When Asteria finally reached the location of yesterday’s unfortunate meeting, she stopped and used her sense of smell to her advantage. The most predominant scent was definitely from the two lizards they had killed there, but nonetheless, she managed to catch a hint of Edward’s scent and Ria followed it carefully. She tried to stay aware of her surroundings, but was most definitely concentrated primarily on tracking the other Dire rat down. And his scent led Asteria to the remains of no less than six dead creatures! There was a dead lizard, a pair of rats, a wisp, a goblin and a strangely coloured gelatinous spilling that was probably the “corpse” of a slime.

Asteria took it as a good sign that Edward’s corpse was not among these creatures. He must have truly had the devil’s luck to both happen upon such a group and survive the confrontation. Although she had recently eaten, Asteria was rather curios about what another monster would taste like and slowly made her way from corpse to corpse, trying to inspect each as best as she could to decide which one to try. The dead gelatinous mass had an awfully strange scent that she suspected was poison. The lizard was something she had already tried and as such it held no interest for her. The rats…She’d rather not do something so cannibalistic when there was no need to do so. The goblin she inspected much closely to see if it had any sort of a tool even a rat like herself could use, but it was pretty much naked…and incredibly grotesque. Offended by its smell and unwilling to taste it, she moved towards the last corpse, a wisp’s. Seeing it there only reminded her of what had happened the last night. But, she reasoned, it probably hadn’t been a human. She couldn’t claim to excel at differentiating one wisp from another, but this one probably wasn’t one of that pair that she and Mei had met yesterday. Unable to oppose her rising intrigue, Asteria sunk her fangs into the felled wisp, chewing thoughtfully. The heap of corpses here entirely lost her to Ed’s scent. Most likely, she would have to move farther away and hope she caught the track elsewhere. But which direction to take…?

It burns. Oh god it burns it burns it burns the fire seared her weak flesh and crept into her bones the burning was unbearable she would do anything to make it stop please stop the burning- she couldn't handle the pain, the unbearable fire paralyzed her whole body in pain. So her brain did a reboot of sorts just to escape the pain for a moment and prevent her from going into shock. She went unconscious for but a moment, but when she woke back up the chaos was beginning to die down. The goblin she had tackled was dead, while the one she had fired her Mana Blade at was bleeding out as it clutched it's throat, gasping and gurgling. How pitiful. Orochi was on top of the last goblin that was trying to attack Digbie, while Digbie had thrown a stalactite at the retreating duo of the magic Goblin and the human Goblin. The Lizard they had saved was attempting to kill the already dying Goblin, a bit pointless but she wouldn't begrudge it for being more than a little vengeful.

The human Goblin managed to deflect the stalagmite, but at the cost of her sword. She was effectively defenseless now, carrying away the burnt Goblin with both arms occupied. Her monster brain and her human brain warred, on one hand she didn't want to kill another human, regardless of what they may have done to her. On the other hand... she would pay for burning her soul. She would pay with blood. "Oberon, I need healing! I'm going to chase after them!" With what little mana she could muster, she picked up the rock that the Goblin had dropped and dashed after them, moving past Oberon and the other Pixie in her pursuit of Crispy and Orchid. She would not let her prey escape, not when there was so much blood in the water. "Finish your prey quickly everyone, the hunt begins!" She would probably regret this later, apologize to the human Goblin extensively, but right now the animal she was is in control. And it was hungry. As she made dashed towards the retreating duo she made a slight detour through a mana crystal, shattering it with her rock and feeling it instantly dissolve into energy for herself to use. Tasty.

Naji-Goblin Tartare taste like feet

@Rune_Alchemist@CollectorOfMyst@Zeroth@duthguy

Naji continued to tear into the goblin’s (former goblin at this point he supposed) leg. The flesh tasted like nothing he’d ever experienced. It was vile and delicious at the same time, likely a result of having not eaten for god knows how long. The smell reminded him of something a customer had once brought into the bar, Surströmming. It was some sort of canned fish from Europe or something, a ‘delicacy’ from one of the countries that...as he recalled mattered so shockingly little he purged the very name of it from his memory long ago. He wish he could say the same for the smell, the foul slug that came from the can reeked of the sea, decay, and old yeast. Like being stuck inside the bloated corpse of a whale. It had taken the better part of a week to get the smell out of his clothes, and even longer to banish the stench from the bar.

Thankfully though, the goblin only smelt like the back end of a warf. He tasted...like raw beef really. Stringy, raw, unprocessed, slightly off beef, garnished generously with Eau De Toilette by Goblinkind, but beef none the less. A faint blue sheen over his meal alerted to him to his new visitor, the luminous floating snot ball that had presumably fired on the goblins. ”....pleasure to meet you.” Naji chirped, slurring a lose string of muscle back into his mouth. It would...probably be pretty disturbing if this were not a life and second death situation.

”And I’m fine....She not coming to eat any of this?” He asks, dropping the now somewhat cleaned bone of the goblin’s leg. ”I mean...’s her kill. She should get a share..Hey, you think these guys are like fish?” He asks, looking over the goblin’s generously mauled face. ”You know...where the eyes are the good nutrient rich part? Lets see...." He says, idly digging a hand into the goblin’s eyelid. He gropes around inside for a moment, attempting to find the connective nerves before finally giving up and getting as good a grip as he could mange. He places his foot on the greenskins nose, giving a mighty grunt as he attempted to pull the eye out.

“Hunt? I thought this was a breakfast run, since when did this become a hunt?” The Wisp did not seem to be paying any attention to him as she pushed past him, chasing after the retreating forms of the fire-wielding Goblin and the other one who had thrown the torch at her. Letting out a weary sigh Oberon followed after Mourningstar, fluttering his wings to take to the air and better keep pace with the other flying creature. It was becoming a familiar situation, following after the troublesome Wisp as he attempting to keep her alive through whatever calamitous plan she came up with.

As he followed her he raised a hand and focused on her form, casting Minor Heal as requesting and watching as the smallish burns and singed fur began to repair themselves before his eyes.

Your MP is low.
System:Oberon

Gliding past the other Oberon spied the small Lizard he had seen earlier, the one who had asked for his healing as well before darting off the attack one of the many greenish figures around the bonfire. His prior examination had proven his theory that she was human, or at least something more than an ordinary Lizard, though she didn’t look it as she was now with her fangs digging into the green flesh of yet another Goblin.

Whatever she was, she was an ally of sorts for the moment and he had offered to help her. Stretching out a hand in her direction he used another Minor Heal to fix whatever damage had been done to her before Mourningstar had managed to distract her attackers; though given had sprightly she seemed he wasn’t sure how necessary it was.

You have no MP remaining.
System:Oberon

And so I begin to fall into my familiar role. But then, wasn’t this what I had in mind when I picked this creature to begin my new life?

Crushing the last remaining mana crystal in his hand Oberon felt the now familiar sensation that he had begun to associate with his magical power being restored.

By this point experience told him that he could only cast three basic spells before his mana was depleted, something which had been pretty much confirmed by the system message earlier; that wasn’t nearly enough to make him feel comfortable. As he and Mourningstar continued to pursue the Goblins he began to wonder if he should throw all of his energy into attacking them with the Wisp and hope for a quick victory, or save his spells to try and get them out of this alive when things inevitable went wrong?

It seemed as though the first lizard he had spotted, the one that was fighting the green humanoid things, managed to stop the collared lizard from attacking the little winged human. Reoth's attention now went to observing the malnourished pixie as it, or rather he, dug in and began tearing raw skin and muscle away with his teeth. He looked down at the untouched corpse in front of him for a moment, contemplating whether or not he should eat some as well... It was strange and somewhat disgusting to him that such a thought really didn't seem to bother him.

His gaze shot up immediately as he clearly heard the dark green lizard talking, yes talking, to the floating ball of light. The idea of the lizard possibly being the leader of this group was lost in the moment at the realization that it just spoke his language, and clearly at that. Then the glowball replied in turn. The wisp floated towards them, seemingly unaware of Reoth's presence, and began speaking to the pixie, warning him to slow down with eating. Then he was once more surprised by the pixie being able to talk as well.

Well... were they like him? People reincarnated into this world by a seemingly dark entity calling himself the Demon King. There was only one way to find out.

He looked back to the lizards before the pixie grabbed the eyeball, deciding to not see such a thing happen. Deciding to get closer to better see and hear what was going to happen, Reoth crawled over the goblin corpse and covered half the distance in a calm, curious manner. Stopping there he heard the unique lizard, whom he now understood to be a female by her voice, essentially offer the collared one what could be thought of as an ultimatum. Or it could be that she was making it clear that it would end up dead if it stayed by itself.

As it was, Reoth continued to play the part of the silent observer, unless someone spoke to him.

Ardur The Pixie
Fight to Survive >>>> Making a Gamble /// day 8 // Morning

Ardur was in the heat of the moment, his heart was nearly pounding out of his chest. The small toothpick he grabbed earlier seemed to do the trick. Piercing the thin skin of the goblins eyelid and into his eye. However, the victory was short-lived. The injured Crispy soon started to shake with anger and with a yell shot off a fireball right into Ardur. Everything was suddenly a bright hot blur as the pixie was flung back head over heels away from the bon fire. He couldn’t hear what the goblin said, Ardur simply figured it was an insult. But right now, all he could hear was ringing in his ears.

The world slowly began to stop spinning around the pixie who just moments before was flung across the cave and into a nearby rock. His head hurt and his body felt sore but it seemed like the shield he cast on himself held just long enough to save his life. He took a moment to gain his bearings and peer out at the chaos and war zone that had sprung up around them. Goblins attacking goblins, lizards striking down prey, wisps bombarding others, and a few pixies trying to do something. “What the hell is going on?”

Multiple small skirmishes all going on at once seemed to force the other creature of the cave to back off and stay away from the Frey. Could all these monsters fighting be human? Ardur could only wonder as to what kind of force would subject these people, these humans into fighting like this. Perhaps it was instincts, maybe even the fact that these people thought they were in some sort of dream or game with little to no consequences.

The small pale pixie looked down at his smoldering clothes. Slowly taking them off, so they didn't burn him. again he caught himself looking at the black marks on his chest. This place was real, he had died and there was no going back. This place is real life now. Eventually breaking free of his thoughts, Ardur began to fly again. Just in time to see a goblin throw a stone at crispy and the other goblin with the bone sword. The female was trying to save crispy and again He couldn't decide what to do.

Crispy had been severely injured, and by all intents and purposes of his earlier attack that he could tell had neutralized the threat. A blind goblin isn't much of a problem and could very well be thrown out of his current position with in the goblin ranks. The pixie could only hope that the goblin hierarchy was structured around power and that they wouldn't accept a crippled goblin. But if he let the goblin get killed by these others than they were going to lose a possible teacher. The goblin could always be useful and die another day.

Acting quickly as a few others took off after the two goblins. Ardur began to fly up toward the ceiling, he wasn't too tired just yet. Stiffening his wings toward the top and gliding quickly towards the duo the pixie took a slight detour to fly by the same crystal the wisp had just collided with to grab another falling chunk of crystal and soak up what ever dust was left around. Again the small creature was feeling the same rush from earlier as he flew past the wisp and straight toward the back of the female goblin.

Warning your mana is low.
1 Mana Crystal added to Inventory.
System:Ardur

As he got closer and closer Ardur's plan began to take a bit more shape as he neared these two. The female seemed to be trying to block the others by putting herself between Crispy and the others while she pushed him forward. In the next few moments Ardur would try to do something crazy. While gripping the crystal and still using some of his mana to keep flying The naked pixie cast Shield I on himself, used the mana crystal, and once he was close enough, he would try to grab the Female goblin's ear. To try to catch himself while casting Shield I on her as well. “Keep moving your almost there” he shouted at her. Ardur would then turn staying on the females shoulder to tell her to dodge or move if another attack was coming in.

Asteria

On the Trail (D2)
@SilverPaw

Asteria eventually left Mei to whatever experiments she was doing, and convinced the Mother Rat to follow her once more. Mother wasn’t quite as quick as her daughter, but she was further along it seemed than Mei or Ed had been when it came to keeping up with Ria’s increased speed. As they tracked Ed’s trail from the previous day and came across the scene of carnage, Asteria took to sampling and investigating.

Your observations have granted you a new skill!
Skill Gain: Monster Analysis I!
Gain basic biological information about a monster by actively observing it.
System:Asteria

Mother’s squeak drew her attention next. The bigger rat seemed to have picked up that they were tracking the other male rat from yesterday, as his scent was the only familiar one to her that Asteria seemed to have been following. Now that they had another lead, they began to follow it.

Soon they could see Ed, standing near the Pool. He was watching two nearby slimes...and seemed rather traumatized, if a rat could show emotions…

[[You can join their group if you’d like.]]

Edward, Asura, Jason

Pool Party (D2)
@Searat@Kazemitsu@Guy0fV4lor

As Ed watched in shock, his brain slowly began to register that what had happened was, perhaps, not such a randomly unfortunate occurrence after all. The red slime came to a stop--and considering its momentum, such a thing must have been calculated. It had wanted to stop, specifically, to meet a second green-colored slime. And, though its large mass gave it more trouble, the blue slime stopped as well. If Ed used his sharper senses, he could even hear what the Red and Green slimes were saying to each other--and these were the only two slimes he had ever heard, thus far, who could speak. Just like those Wisps, and those other rats…

As Jason and Asura conversed, the green slime decided to try another experiment. As he used his Tremor Sense on Asura, the red slime would feel much like one could imagine a bowl of jello feeling if you simply picked it up, put the lid on it, and then violently shook it like some kind of crazed bartender mixing a James Bond martini. In the end it made him quite dizzy, but at least it didn’t seem to be painful yet.

Jason, on the other hand, would notice that Tremor Sense didn’t really give him any noteworthy feedback about Asura’s body the way it had the Fanged Lizard. Maybe it was the lack of solid bones and flesh available to “map out” the body through the waves, or maybe it was just that there didn’t seem to really be anything “in” a Slime, except for their bile-like fluids and...well, maybe just one thing. The closer the waves got to Asura’s center of mass, the slower they became and the more of their energy bled out, leaving the vibrations that made it back to Jason weaker and less clear. So maybe there was some kind of “core” in there? Like the membrane pockets they could use to wrap up items in their Inventory?

As for telepathy...When Jason thought directly towards Asura, his intentions to communicate became perfectly clear between the two slimes. But while he could physically feel his Tremor Sense, and so could Asura, the only other feeling Jason could detect was somewhat similar to how his Mana behaved when he used Earth elemental spells. It was not so much that he controlled a flow of energy, or generated a certain type of power, but that whatever Mana he was putting into this--this “focus” of his own mind, this “invisible connection” between himself and another being--the Mana he put into it would pool up, and then “suffuse” the subject.

It was quite a hard thing to describe, and the green slime probably couldn’t even imagine how difficult it was to type in words. It was so difficult that most writers would probably just say “fuck it” and slap something down to be done with it.

But, the important thing was that there was a difference. There was a noticeable difference in what was happening to the Mana he used for Tremor Sense, and the Mana he was using for...whatever this form of communication between slimes could be called, since it didn’t seem to be quite the same as true mind reading.

Momma Slime, after watching in silence for a few moments, reached out to pat Asura on the head with a heavy pseudopod, causing his body to undulate somewhat.

What other small used-to-be-now-not me do? How...How I do?

As Lorek whirled and fired, his Mana Orb suddenly crackled all the louder. The energy blasted the zombified Pixie and kept going, tearing through its already mangled flesh. Now missing a large chunk of its ribcage and one of its arms, the zombie fell over backwards--but it wasn’t re-dead yet. Still groaning, blood and bile pouring from its mouth, nose, and eyes, it twisted until it gathered both legs underneath it. Pushing off with those snapping bones, it once more launched itself at Lorek.

Even though he had used Curses to kill it last time, the Pixies weren’t able to take this much damage normally. What would he have to do to put it down this time?

And more importantly, would he have enough MP to do it? If that System Message was any indication, he couldn’t use another Mana Orb now--would he be able to kill the creature with just his Lesser Force? If he used the Curse Word again, would he have any other method to damage it with no MP?

Rain, Orchid, Digbie, Mourningstar, Oberon, Orochi, Ardur

Flame of Chaos (D2)
@Old Amsterdam@Lucius Cypher@King Cosmos@CriticalHit@Gardevoiran@floodtalon@ReusableSword

Orochi launched a glob of Poison Spit after Orchid as she dragged Cripsy away, only for the goblin girl to almost instinctively react and swing her sword, swiping the poison blob out of the air. Her weapon hissed, its untreated sinew-bindings burning away and further weakening it, but she had managed not to let any of it get on her or Crispy. Orochi didn’t pursue any further, however--his priority was now Goblin #1, the one that had already been poisoned. In fact, even as Orochi was creeping up on him, the goblin clutched his stomach and then began to wretch.

As he bent over, Orochi darted in. Climbing up and over, he scaled the green monster’s body. He was almost to its throat before its diseased body could react, but the goblin missed as it reached for him. The Fanged Lizard sang his claws and fangs into the vulnerable throat, and this goblin too went down--but of course, he was taking Orochi with him! The lizard felt himself slammed into the ground, hard, dislodging him from his prey. The goblin rolled, one hand holding his own throat wound, and snatched up his Gnarled Stick. He stood up, weapon raised and hatred burning in his eyes--

Then he convulsed, throwing up once more, before dropping to the ground. His stick clattered to the stone floor.

Rain tried to take advantage of the bleeding Goblin #3’s distracted state to use her stealth ability, but in pitched battle it wasn’t that easy to simply go back into the shadows. Still, even though Goblin 3 turned towards her, all he could do was weakly kick out at her--which gave her the perfect opportunity to dart under his foot and seize the one planted on the ground. As her fangs savaged at his flesh, the goblin couldn’t help but fall, forcing him to let go of his wound. But he had already lost too much blood--with his heart struggling already, Rain’s paralytic venom simply stopped it. The Goblin weakly thrashed as he went into cardiac arrest. He looked up at the lizard sitting on his chest with an expression of fear.

What kind of death must it be, for a sentient creature, to be paralyzed, bleeding, afraid, dying? To slowly let life ebb away, helplessly? Would it, perhaps, be what was felt by those prisoners executed by lethal injection? Could anyone, still alive, ever know that feeling themselves?

Goblins 1, 2, and 3 were down. But Orchid and Crispy were already getting far from the battlefield, and getting further with every passing moment. For the young female goblin, right now Survival was a form of victory too. And right now, survival meant getting the hell out of here, with her “teacher” in tow. That's when she heard something being hurled towards them. Orchid didn't get a good look and simply acted on reflex; blindly swinging her sword backwards hoping to intercept the projectile. Against the odds she succeeded, swiping a ball of poisonous purple spit out of the air! None of it got on her or Crispy as it spattered against the rocks, but the acid burned through the sinews and strips of hide she had used to bind her sword together, further weakening it. When Digbie javelined a large stone spike at them, she again deflected it, but with more effort this time. But the strain was too much for her weapon, and it shattered. Pieces of wood and bone shrapnel peppered her, and Crispy to a lesser extent, but at this point it was a small price to pay.

But now with both hands free, Orchid could turn her greater-than-the-average-gob’s strength fully upon Crispy. She practically carried him now as they ran, and the blinded Goblin seemed to be making some kind of expression between awe, fear, confusion, and rage.

“Youngling! The big hole, to outside! Find Rattleskull!” the flame touched goblin managed to get out as he found his own feet--though all he could really do was jog at a slower pace alongside Orchid, since he had to rely on her to lead him.

But they weren’t out of the clear yet. As she shook off the flames of Orchid’s thrown torch, Mourningstar had let her rage get the best of her. With a shouted order at Oberon she set off in pursuit of the two goblins. Orchid and Crispy already had a fairly decent head start, though--if she really pushed it, Mourningstar might be able to maintain distance with them, track them over time and perhaps catch up whenever they stopped. But she just didn’t have the speed to overtake them, at least not right now. Would she continue the chase?

Oberon had done as was asked, healing first Mourningstar and then Rain, as he saw her perched on top of her slain goblin. Both of them would receive Full HP notices from the System, and Mourningstar had also refilled her MP with a crystal--speaking of which, hadn’t Crispy been stockpiling those somewhere?

But Oberon, like Mourningstar, found that he simply lacked the physical speed to overtake their retreating prey--but he could, perhaps, stay within sight of them and try to track them. But if he could see them, they could probably see him too--except Crispy, of course.

But one member of the party was able to catch up. Thanks to his Lesser Flight II skill, Ardur’s speed was greater than that of the others. He was able to catch up to the two goblins, and even managed to land on the female’s shoulder--

Then he cast a Shield spell on her!?

“Keep moving, you’re almost there!” he shouted at Orchid.

@Rune_Alchemist@ghastlyInc@CollectorOfMyst@Duthguy@Kangutso

The other Fanged Lizard looked at Ash with bestial eyes. They could only see two things--that which was prey, and that which was not. As she spoke to it in a clear voice, there was no understanding in those eyes. It seemed curious...but ultimately, as the wild lizard backed out from under the rock, its curiosity was overcome by its instinct. It glanced around at the others--Pixies, a Wisp, another Fanged Lizard. Too many. Competitors? Predators? Prey? Too confusing. As Ash took a more relaxed stance, the Lizard finally made its move, and backed away from the group. It turned and tried to run--then promptly became tangled in its own leash. It began to thrash to free one of its legs, hissing and baring its fangs at the others again to try and keep them from attacking it in its moment of weakness.

You used Monster Analysis I!
This Monster is Dead. Decay has not begun, Effectiveness at 99%.
This is a Goblin. A semi-intelligent monster with the limb dexterity and mental capacity to use tools. By comparison, usually as large, strong, and intelligent as a human child, but far more vicious. This one was carrying a Hard Rock as a weapon. It was killed by something with claws and fangs. From its size and other identifying features, it is probably a fully mature specimen. You can’t be sure because you haven’t met that many goblins.
System:Danny

As Danny partook of the raw goblin, he experienced much the same thing Naji did. Thankfully he wasn’t as bad off as the Pixie, and could afford to eat much less. His Monster Analysis gave him some rather plain information that he could probably have just guessed on his own, but then again it was a brand new skill at the first rank.

Naji managed to pull out one of the goblins’ eyeballs, complete with a gushing of blood from the socket and a stringy length of optic nerve. There was also an excellent view of the inside of the green creature’s head, at least until you got to the gristly yellow of the bones under all the flesh. And of course the smell was just lovely. But as Naji chewed and chewed and forced himself to swallow, he felt the pangs of hunger finally beginning to settle a bit.

You are still Exhausted. You have regained a small amount of Stamina. You are still hungry. You are no longer starving. You are no longer experiencing HP Drain. Your HP is still Low. You are still Thirsty.
System:Naji

As Reoth avoided drawing attention to himself, it was surprising how good at it he turned out to be, given his albino coloration. But the one Pixie seemed so intent on devouring that goblin, and the other was hiding behind a rock perhaps until the leashed lizard was either tamed or had gone away. And everyone else was either talking or distracted by said starving pixie and aforementioned formerly enslaved lizard.

It would probably behoove Reoth to go ahead and take the initiative...

Danny was surprised he got info on the dead Goblin rather than the pixie as he wanted, but maybe he just "missed" his target. The info he got wasn't terribly useful but he did confirm that monster analysis I always came with some kind of percentage and it seemed that it was higher when analyzing dead monsters. While he was pondering this information and trying to distract himself from what he was eating the pixie said something about eyes.

Doing something he would instantly regret he looked up. Seeing the pixie pull out an eyeball taught himself something about Wisp biology, just like humans they could throw up when sufficiently grossed out. Fortunately he managed to stop himself before getting rid of all the Goblin flesh he had eaten cause there was no way he could resume his meal after that. Because he had no intention of seeing what else the Pixie would eat he deliberately looked away from the corpse and thus missed the albino lizard approaching it, if he had noticed though he would have gladly used it to distract himself.

Ed snaps back to reality. Quickly trying to rationalize the event that had happened to the unfortunate pixie and how the slime that had killed it acted afterward. After a quick few moments of pondering, he deduces that the red slime was far more intelligent than it lets appear. With that in mind, Ed goes back onto all fours yet again and goes to sneak a little bit closer to the small group of slimes and trying to pick up on whatever their conversation was. Hoping that his ears would be able to pick up what little sound they produced while not being detected by the slimes he was eavesdropping on.

This action was not without caution however. The previous encounter and interaction with the wisps and the dire rats had taught him a small number of things: One, things can change in a drop of a hat no matter how good a situation may seem. Two, not every 'person' he is able to meet is still in control of the drives of their 'new bodies' as he would like. Three, he has the capability to choose his conflicts but if all else fails to find a peaceful resolution to a conflict, blood needs to be spilled whether he wanted to or not.

The feedback from [Tremor Sense I] wasn't much, but it was still somewhat interesting nonetheless. However, Jason's attempt at telepathy yielded much more incredible results.

The feeling that Jason could detect was somewhat similar to how his Mana behaved when he used Earth elemental spells. It was not so much that he controlled a flow of energy, or generated a certain type of power, but that whatever Mana he was putting into this--this “focus” of his own mind, this “invisible connection” between himself and another being--the Mana he put into it would pool up, and then “suffuse” the subject.

Wanting to immediately test his theory, Jason once again centered his mind on the 'focus', feeling the Mana pool up before relaying each piece "Can. You. Hear. Me?" he tried to say, being careful not to speak out loud.

Pulling away from Asura, Jason awaited his comrade's response. Suddenly, slow movement at the edge of the pool caught Jason's attention. Turning to face it, he saw a dire rat.... listening to them? Could this be another reincarnated human? "Hello" he said in a soft voice, slowly moving toward the newcomer, "Can you speak too? If so, we mean you no harm. My name is Jason, what's yours?"

Ed freezes reflexively. It was too optimistic of him to even consider that he would have been skilled enough to sneak closer without being detected. The slime the red one had talked to was more conscious of his surroundings than anticipated and was quick to discover Ed's movements and attempts to hear better on the conversation the two sapient slimes had.

There was no point in running or refusing to answer the slime named Jason, so Ed decided to give Jason a proper answer. "Yes. I can speak." Ed sits on his hind legs and raising his front paws before him to show the other 'people' present that he had no intention of attack. "My name is Edward, but you both can call me Ed." As Jason moved closer, Ed takes a defensive few steps back. "Sorry, but I would like to keep a distance as of now. I've met other 'people' before and one of them bit the other out of seemingly no reason. Again, I apologize if this seems rude or unfriendly. I'm Just being cautious is all."

Asteria

Asteria startled mildly at the system notification; she had most certainly not expected to gain an analysis skill of all things. Hadn’t that been rather low experience-wise? Well, no matter. She now had an active skill, and was itching to try it out. Before she could do so however, her Mother let her know that she had found Ed’s scent. Obligingly, Asteria followed after her. They ended up near the Pool, a location Ateria had no yet investigated. The water seemed to reach surprising depths, but even so, Asteria wondered how it would be to swim in it. Since she’d been reborn as a beast, she had not yet had anything resembling a proper wash, though she didn’t find it too bothersome to make do the same way other beasts did – that is, by licking the grime off her fur. Besides, in a world full of monsters, jumping in was probably not the best and she wasn’t exactly confident of her current swimming ability, though she was pretty sure rats managed it decently. Around the pool were a few green herbs, but they were scarce in numbers.

Refocusing her attention back on the target she had went out of her way to seek out, she noticed Edward had moved towards a group of slimes, a green and a red one, as well as a larger blue one. The male Dire rat had just been addressed by one of the slimes. She assumed all of the creatures to be human, but used Monster analysis on them to confirm it. And despite their advantage, she decided to approach. Wary about being attacked and already thinking about possible escape routes in case the group decided that she could not be an ally, Asteria carefully went closer, but not so much that they would feel too threatened. Hopefully, Mother wouldn’t cause any additional animosity. “Edward,” she addressed him, not at all aware what he had just confessed to the slimes. “I’m glad I finally found you. I wanted to apologize for how things yesterday went down.” Asteria looked at him earnestly, willing to explain if he was willing to listen. “I understand if you can’t forgive it though,” she added, doing her utmost to appear agreeable, understanding, and contrite. This was why not making mistakes in the first place was better. The consequences of bad judgment tended to be nasty. And though she wanted to remain optimistic, she couldn’t help the tenseness of her body, fully ready to flee if it proved needed.

Elated that he had found another potential ally, but disappointed at the immediate defensive reaction of Edward, Jason internally frowned.
Just as he was about to reply with an attempt to ease Ed's concerns, two new dire rats approached, one of which was rather large in size.

“Edward,” the smaller of the two began, “I’m glad I finally found you. I wanted to apologize for how things yesterday went down.” pausing for a moment before finishing with “I understand if you can’t forgive it though,”

Cautiously, Jason turned to face the speaking newcomer. Could this perhaps be the traitorous individual Ed had spoken of? "Greetings!" he beckoned, "Friends of Ed I assume? Come, join us! We were just discussing an alliance!

Hoping to portray himself in a non-threatening fashion he introduced himself, "My name is Jason, who might you be?" he finished, in the most charming voice he could muster.

Ed visibly tenses at the sound of Asteria's voice. As if he just stopped himself from lurching forward and making a break for it. If Asteria was here, then Mei must be close too. Though hearing her sincerely apologize for the events that transpired yesterday, made Ed consider giving the other dire rat a second chance. He quietly turns to face the other dire rat to see that she was not alone and had brought along her mother. Though Mei was not there and that gave Ed a feeling of reassurance and reduced his anxiety greatly.

Ed hears Jason offer a friendly greeting and attempted to beckon them into a form of an alliance. The word 'alliance' sounded very tempting to him, for surely there is safety in numbers. "You...you shouldn't be apologizing for Mei's mistakes, Asteria. You were not the one who attacked another unprovoked...but if you need my word for it; I forgive you." He then turns to face Jason. "An alliance?"

Asura raised a goo-brow when Jason hollered out about not being trifled with. "I think at this point I'd win through sheer defensive capabilities and knowing some of your moves." He stated in a joking manner. But considering the lack of a tone it could be considering factual. He was still getting the hang of speaking with tones and less gargle. It'd probably be some time before he managed that.

Jason reached out a pseudopod to try something. A vibration was sent through Asura and it just annoyed him. Normal slimes communicate through touch and telepathy. He stated and then Mother Slime joined in. Asking how the two did the things they were doing. You have the basis of the shape change I do, just need to practice. Talking...it harder to explain. Whatever he's doing is his to explain, mum. He thought to her.

More things happened. Dire rats were appearing and talking. Jason, who had finally introduced himself, was talking about an alliance. There was safety in numbers but Asura preferred being alone most of the time. Names were given, which earned a sigh. "Asura." The red and orange slime stated while the two dire rats kissed and made up for unknown reasons to the three slimes.

~The cavern~

"Of course..." Ash inwardly face-palmed as the bestial lizard ran. To be expected, she supposed. Wild animals were like that. She had though there was a moment of curiosity in its eyes, but that was quickly disproved as it ran. Well, simple enough. She'd just have to use force to make it, then. As it flailed, tangled in the leash still around its neck, Ash walked slowly over, letting it struggle more with the leash it wasn't likely to get out of. If it was someone that had a higher chance of understanding her intentions, then she'd have untagled the leash for them.

But for a wild animal that didn't seem intent on understanding? Well...

As soon as she reached the lizard she slammed her claw into it's head, forcing it the ground, careful to avoid its fangs. She hissed loudly, quickly trying to assert who was in charge here. Hopefully this would get her intentions across a little better.

Asteria

“Thank you,” she suffused her tone with warmth that she couldn’t express by forming a smile while possessing a rat’s muzzle. And she was pleased that Ed was content to let the past be exactly that, as well as being reasonable enough to not blame a witness. Admittedly, she could have done more to try stop Mei, but how was she supposed to know what would happened? And once she saw what exactly was going on, it was too late to do much. But, well, no need to think of that or elaborate on it if the slimes they were facing had no wish to know. And as she had hoped, the Monster Analysis skill was indeed able to differentiate between native monsters and human-souled-monsters. As such, she had noticed the big blue slime was a monster while the other two were (former) humans.

After that short observation, she looked towards the overbearingly friendly green slime. “…An acquaintance, to be honest,” she told him, somewhat reserved in answer to his loudness that she was both distasteful and just a bit wary of. Either Jason had completely missed that the two Dire rats had had a quarrel between them and had just managed to (somewhat) resolve it or he was simply playing the friendly card, rather poorly she might add. Though if he was honest about the alliance, Asteria would rather join than not.

“I’m Asteria,” she introduced herself, nodding to them both, remembering Asura’s name although he seemed to be the quiet sort and as such she might not even get to talk to him much, or at all. “And this here is Mother Rat,” she nodded to the larger Dire rat. “She’s native to this world so she can’t exactly understand human speech, but I hope we can get along nonetheless. She’s useful in a fight. Oh, and I would like to know what exactly you had in mind for an alliance, sure,” she directed this towards Jason, who seemed the most leader-like of them. She did hope he wasn’t always quite so…intense. Though she was a social creature, some individuals not only crossed the fine line from affable to grating, they happily traipsed on the other side seemingly purely so that they could annoy the rest of the population. But as long as they weren’t some sort of an unpredictable danger, she supposed she could accept an ally even if they did turn out to be annoying.

After the two rats made up over a seemingly very sensitive event, the newcomer finally introduced them self. “I’m Asteria,” she began, “And this here is Mother Rat,” nodding to the large rat beside her. “She’s native to this world so she can’t exactly understand human speech, but I hope we can get along nonetheless. She’s useful in a fight. Oh, and I would like to know what exactly you had in mind for an alliance, sure,”

Pleased to hear that the rats were at least somewhat interested in forming an alliance, something similar to a smile formed across Jason's slimy face. However, now that they had gotten past formalities, it was time to discuss business. "So," he began, now taking a serious tone, "Terms of the alliance would be as follows. First, all members will protect each other to the best of their ability. Second, I am sure that you have noticed the strange crystals that grow about the cave, any found are to be given to an alliance member with mana reliant skills such as myself. Third, any new information is to be passed to all other members." Jason said before pausing.

"Do you all agree to these terms?"

Seeing as how things were going, Ed would say that Jason discussing the alliance be a good sign that he too should show his willingness to trust the others. He no longer stands on his hind legs and moves a little closer to the slime trio and speaking his mind. "I agree to the terms you have mentioned and I am willing to join your alliance." He pauses a bit, thinking if the question he was about to ask would make him seem like a fool...but quickly rationalizes that a hurt pride is worth the cost of knowing more about this world he was reincarnated into. "I apologize if I seem ignorant or foolish, but did you just say 'mana'? Like the magical kind of mana?" Ed was not unfamiliar with the concept of mana. He remembers playing a number of RPG video games with Audrey before and the word was always associated with magicks.

If this world had that kind of mana, would it be possible for him to actually use magic?

"I agree to the terms you have mentioned and I am willing to join your alliance." Ed replied, "I apologize if I seem ignorant or foolish, but did you just say 'mana'? Like the magical kind of mana?"

Glad that he had already scored another new ally, Jason gladly responded to Edward's question. "It is not foolish at all my friend! But yes, I did mean the magical sort of mana. As of right now, I have already developed several magic-based skill, and am currently working on several more including a sort of lesser telepathy naturally possessed by slimes." he explained to his new comrade before pausing for a moment.

"If you would like, I could even try to teach you some of it later. Would that interest you?"
