A spot of water dampened her shoulder.
Then another.
Then another.
She held out her bare hand to the sky, letting more of the water land upon her skin - it seemed the drips were now congregating more into a drizzle. Even without bending - one could tell from the atmosphere and the clouds that it was going to rain soon. Yet the prison personnel still let the benders out into the yard.
How foolish.. Jirani thought. They had protocol for these sort of things - if it was raining, or seemed it was about to - the prisoners were to stay inside. Even if it meant they were deprived of their fresh air for the day.
The short, young woman stood towards the corner of the courtyard, away from most of the other inmates. Being in this prison meant she had betrayed her nation, but she didn't know which of the prisoners would see reason or not - just being associated with the Fire Nation was grounds for being beat in a prison. And she wasn't sure the guards would help her either, if it came to that.
However, with a fight having erupted in the center of the courtyard, and a new flock of inmates arriving to the yard as the doors moved to the side, it seemed like the prime moment for some sort of riot to take place - though there was no way in hell she could start one by herself..
But, it seem she didn't have to.
One of the newly arrived inmates, seemingly oblivious to the rules placed on benders when in prison, caught some of the drizzle, and launched it towards the group fighting in the middle. As you'd expect - none of the guards liked that. She was quickly surrounded by said guards, the men clutching their hilts and calling the art of flame to their palms. If she was
trying to distract them even further - it had worked.
Naught but a few seconds later, a swirling ball of air - apexed by a girl about her size - came hurling past her; the force almost toppling the ex-officer. She stumbled to keep her footing, flailing her arms.
A-An Airbender?? How has she even survived in here this long?! she thought frantically.
It had seemed the yard had quickly complicated itself - far more than she had anticipated. Perhaps escape would actually be possible!
We have to act fast, before they send more soldiers.. she thought as she ran towards a guard that was preoccupied with other inmates.
"Riot!" she heard called allowed. Now the other inmates were stirring. She witnessed the others start to turn on the guards as she ran, the Earthbenders shooting chunks of rock at the outnumbered guards, and the present Waterbenders working to quell the already-suppressed flames of them. The riot was now well underway.
Jirani darted behind the guard she had approached, aiming to slam her foot into the back of his knee, then deliver a swift forearm to the crook of his neck - where his helmet did not protect him.
If only she were that fortunate.
As she made for her attack, the guard moved his leg, causing her to end up kicking him in the calf. Which he didn't like, obviously.
"What the hell are you doing?!" he shouted at her as he turned to shoulder her away roughly, unsheathing his blade.
But Jirani had other plans - she threw herself into him as he tried to draw his weapon, clasping her own hands around the hilt to try and wrestle it from his grasp. He had the strength advantage, but she had the momentum. Hopefully she would be able to topple him, and rip the weapon from his hands, threatening him into submission with it.
