Emanuel "Manny" Newman

Location: L11 (Dance Floor) -->L9 (Street)
Skills: N/A

Alexander seemed about as puzzled as Manny was about the wild fucks. "Something going on with the youth here. Seems they are all having at it in their own way tonight." Made sense, being young and enjoying life whoever they thought they wanted to. Reminded Manny of how he enjoyed life growing up. Though that mostly went with getting into fights, stealing petty things, and getting an earful from his father. Manny did get lost when Alexander said something about feeling sorry about one of the kids. "Which one? The boy?" He looked over just in time to see him laying face first in the sand. Manny had to agree, the morning was going to suck for the boy. But at least he was moving? As far as Manny knew he was on his back a few minutes ago.

Making their way to the rooms was a decent enough walk. Seemed a few others were starting, but Manny and Alexander had the lead it seemed. "Your snoring? No. It meant that if someone tried sneaking up on us, they would find you before me." Manny said with a bit of dry humor. "I think the thing I will miss most is the smell of your foot." He gave pause for affect. "The nice smell of freshly shaped and sanded metal. No smell quite like it. I don't know how I'll sleep at night now!" He said with a very serious joking tone. Jokes aside, it would be odd for the old dentist. For the last few years he had slept with someone watching his back, or himself watching the backs of others. The short time he didn't do that, eh became a prisoner of Eden... this would be... hard. He knew it was for the best, but it was still an experience that Manny wasn't sure he was ready to get used to just yet.

Private Hunter James Monroe

Location: L11 (Kettles) --> L10
Skills: N/A

Hunter decided he hated parties. They only led to social embarrassment, and Hunter hating being near people even more then usual. He took Nigel's hand and pulled himself up. He was thankful that his arm seemed to work the way it was supposed to. Everything else seemed broken in some way. "Thanks..." He said ignoring Nigel's comment about going to bed being an order. He scooped up the oatmeal with his hand and ate it. Not that Hunter didn't prefer utensils, but after years of not having them reliably, hands. Hands were the way to go. But it was good, so was the toast that he wiped off said oatmeal on then ate. Honestly? The food was probably Hunter's favorite part about tonight. His least favorite part? Looking over just in time to see Nikki dancing with someone else. Sure, he had only known her for a few days, but he lacked friends here, and Nikki was on that short list of potential people he would try to befriend. He felt pissed for a moment, then in a moment of inspiration, had an idea. "Hold my oatmeal..." He spoke to no one in particular. His idea? Go over there and beat the shit out of Bass, to prove that he could and that he was better and that he wasn't some fuck up. If that wasn't a red flag enough for Hunter, when he held out the bowl he only held onto it long enough for the bowl of half eaten oatmeal to drop to the sand and spill whatever Hunter didn't shove into his mouth.

The third and final red flag that Hunter should have registered, was that he was wasted. He got two steps after dropping his bowl before tripping over his own feet, and landing sideways face first not even having the reflexes left to brace his fall. So he laid there, letting the grains of sand accept him as one of their own. While laying down face in the sand, a few things registered to Hunter. Not in any particular order of importance, but ideas none the less. First, Nigel was assuming Hunter's use of Fuck nuggets was him cussing out Nuggets. That wasn't the case, but he wasn't going to correct him. Nigel was nice, like Canadians. Canadians were nice. The more important thing though, was that Nikki was her own person. And he had known her for only a couple days, and had clearly blown whatever chances he had. So fuck it, sir tall and handsome could spend the night with her while he was accepted by his new people. The Sand Grains.

Pretty fast Hunter decided that he liked sand about the same as most people. He turned himself over, face covered in sand, and tried to wipe his face off. But with his face and hands being covered in sand and oatmeal, it mostly just made it worse. It took him a moment, but he willed himself to get up under his own power. Partially out of shame, partially out of spite for being unable to do it. "Okay... I'm done. Ready for bed..." He drunkenly stumbled off to get to his room. A few drunken steps at a time.

Year 5: Part 3

Date: July 22nd, 2012
Map in Original OOC post - NPC's In CS Tab

Location: Camp Mexico Beach

Temperature: 70F
Humidity: High (Around 72%) - No Rain
Wind Speed: 18 MPH
Cloud Coverage: Clear

Note: Most that are older are heading in or have already headed in. What one would think of as the parents are starting to round up the younger children as well from Tesla and ushering them back towards town. There is a lot of "Aww, do we have to?" "I don't wanna go to bed." and "I'm not tired." coming from them as the adults inform them that the party is over for the youngest of the community.

Adelaide is cutting off booze at this point: Water and Sweet Tea is what remains.

The General looked over at Alexander and shook his head a bit. "I shan't but then again I will have to reprimand him for public drunkenness come the morrow. Not the most prestigious start in a new community. I do hope this isn't a sign of a deeper problem," the General said before giving a small farewell for the two and starting to make his way down to where Tesla and Shears were cleaning up from the sparklers and minor fireworks. His eyes went to Hunter for a moment before looking away. Yes, he would need to give the boy a talk and see where that went but it would wait until tomorrow. Tonight, it would be pointless as the kid was obviously drunk.

Cook nodded towards Nigel as he said thanks. Morales on the other hand chuckled a bit. "Let me know if we need to fetch a wheelbarrow from the greenhouse," he said shaking his head as he smiled. Cook sighed a bit but it was an option. Not so much to make things easier on Hunter but easier on Nigel, who had seemed to make it his responsibility to take care of the kid. "Oh man, seriously?" Morales added a bit shocked and disgusted as the kid decided to eat like yeti, palms only, and then waste half of it. "What a waste..."

"Mark it down Cook," Gunny said as he came over to the scene. He looked at Hunter before shaking his head and walking off. Cook's lips thinned a bit but she nodded.

"That ain't good," Morales said under his voice as he picked up some of the plates and moved them back over to the cart.

"No, it isn't..." Cook added as she pulled a small pad from her pocket and scribbled something down before putting it away and getting back to clean up.

Adelaide went from laughing to gagging as she watched the scene get even worse with Hunter. "Yeah, with every girl in this place," she said as she watched him in horror. "It's like a train wreck... you can't look away... but you really should." Shaking her head she looked over towards Thalia. "Chase? Oh right, she's the weather girl. Blonde, cute, thirties. Former storm chaser, used to actually run after tornadoes. Loner, spends more of her time at the pier reading the equipment."

Gunny made a bee line towards the bar. "Alcohol is shut down now." Gunny's voice was flat but his eyes went to Hunter.

Adelaide nodded. "Yeah, thought he could handle more," she admitted. Gunny just turned and headed back off, this time towards where Tesla was with Shears. Adelaide blew out a breath hard from her lips. "Rotten apple, meet basket," Adelaide said under her breath before downing the rest of her beer and starting to put up the remains of the liquor that was out. "Wait, Fuck Guild? That sounds like something from the DnD group... Weren't they going on about something called Yondar Sex Rock?"

Riley walked with Amelia, just glad to see her relaxing some and enjoying herself. Amelia had been so afraid to her for so long, even in quarantine it made her worry about the woman. Seeing her being able to have a moment of normalcy brought a smile to Riley's face. Strolling down the beach was not a bad way to spend the evening, searching for seashells seemed almost like a fairy tale all things considered. No walkers, no hungry stomachs, no wondering if it was you or the person next to you that stank to high heaven, no trying to remember the last time you were able to brush your teeth. This place was paradise, as close as one could get, from the looks of it.

Stopping she nodded. "Yeah, that's it!" Riley exclaimed as Amelia pulled from the seaweed a round flat shall with a little marking on the top. "And yes, that is perfect to remember tonight by," she added as she held her hand out to Amelia. Looking around, it seemed that many people were packing it in and some of the fires were starting to get put out. "That sounds perfect. They said we start early tomorrow and out assignments will be slipped under the door. I say we turn in."

Thana Martin

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: M12 (Beach)
Skills: N/A

Leaning against Ash some, Thana smirked. "I think by now if people don't know we are together they are blind or in denial," she said frankly before taking another bite of the meal that Ash had brought over to her. It was nice to have this moment with Ash. They had had several moments since she returned to Camp Mexico Beach and found out he was here. Each of them a bit different. Each of them a bit mushy and over the top. Some of them very passionate and behind closed doors where they belonged. Either way, all of those had a common thread running through them.... Showing a lot more affection than she normally would, even before the outbreak.

Then again, they did have a lot of lost time to make up for. And perhaps a lot of time to try to get under their belt before the next thing came along that threatened to rip them apart. Nothing lasted forever. Thana knew this well before the outbreak happened. She knew it even more now. A single day could change everything. It could be the start of something, it could be the end. One could live a life time in a day or waste a life in that same amount of time. It seemed that Ash felt similar to how Thana was feeling right then. Or at least she thought he was considering the way he was talking right then.

A smirk came to Thana's lips as Ash stole a kiss. "Oh well, if yer satisfied then I ain't gotta be worried about winnin' the Fuck Hunt tonight," Thana said in a sassy tone before taking a bite of the crab and grinning mischievously towards him. "Might as well not even eat, as I won't be needin' it fer strength later on." While she said she might as well not eat, she kept eating. A coy look twinkling in her eyes as she leaned in and whispered. "Better eat 'cause I ain't sleepin' until I'm satisfied." Chuckling she leaned back and took another bite as she curled more against Ash right then.

Nikola Warren

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: L11 (Dance Floor)

Now over in one corner the Camp was dealing with a drunk in the sand. In another a couple was finding sea-shells down by the sea shore. At the bar, the mighty Fuck Hunt was under way. And elsewhere still a couple was making up for a lot of lost time. Between these points other things were going on. Gunny was patrolling and making sure things were getting closed down, the General was checking on things, many were turning in. Two though, were simply still on the dance floor. Ray wrapped an arm around Nikki's waist and pulled her closer as they swayed together. Nikki closing her eyes and enjoying the dance. It was a bit slow for her, being that she liked to jump and bob around constantly, but it was nice nonetheless. The fact she could just rest her head on Rays chest while they danced was nice, his chin resting on top of her head. Having a foot difference in height made things like that happen.

Thing was though, Nikki didn't like holding still for too long. Not that dancing was holding still, far from it, but slow dancing was closer to holding still than not. At least when it was dancing like someone might at a middle school spring festival. Tilting her head back, Nikki rested her chin on Rays sternum, which caused him to lean back some and looked down at her. "I need to be taller, or you shorter," she said before sticking her tongue out at him.

Ray chuckled. "Really?" he asked as he kept dancing with her.

"Yes really. Or I need to start wearing heels around you." That made Ray laugh hard. "Hey! It wasn't that bad last time!" Ray nodded like he agreed but he was trying his damnedest not to laugh. Thinking about the last time he had seen Nikki in heels and how she had fallen back and folded up like a transformer. "Oh! Oh!" she exclaimed, knowing exactly what he was laughing about. She started to turn but Ray just lifted her up and kept dancing. Her feet kicking for a minute as he brought Nikki up to his eye level, which left her feet dangling below her. "Not fair..." He just shrugged and kept dancing. Nikki rolled her eyes and shrugged, "You're gonna pay for this," she warned but Ray didn't seem concerned.

Alexander Polawski

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: L9 (Street) -> L6 (Street outside Education Center)
Skills: N/A

As the duo of baby boomers kept their stride up the street of Mexico Beach, Alexander turned briefly around to look in the general direction of the beach. Though he didn't see anything in particular, he knew who they were leaving behind there; Thana and Thalia, their friends and the few others Alexander felt he could say he knew. As if by instinct he felt the urge to turn around, a primal fear of what could happen to them in their absence clawing in the back of his head. The rational part of his brain cast light on those primal fears however, as he once again had to remind himself that they were safe behind those walls. He would be seeing them in the morning or later.

They were safe.

Alexander wasn't safe from Manny's witty remarks though, and ol' Mugsy turned to him with a huge grin on his face. A low laughter began to come out of Alexander's mouth, before a gave Manny a well-deserved laugh. "Fuck you, Manny you teeth-hoarding pixie. I was the only thing standing between whatever undead or goons out there, and your sorry ass. So don't you come knocking on my door when you pee your bed." Alexander threw back at Manny, it clearly being filled with a big dose of humour and well-meant snarkiness. As Alexander paddled on with his good foot and prostethis, he clapped Manny on the shoulder. "If you're scared, I might lend you it. Only of Wednesdays though. Okay?" Alexander squeezed his friend's shoulder, letting the laughter die down with his smile still on the face of the old veteran. He'd seen some very bad shit throughout his life, but the jokes, smiles and friendliness he had witnessed that day reminded him of its importance. When you were at war in the middle of Hell on Earth, a smile and a joke could keep you marching the rest of your patrol. "I think we will do just fine here, Manny. Sure hope that kid will too."

Nigel "Hadrian" Cooper

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: L11 (Beach, Kettles) -> L10
Skills: N/A

While Nigel had reached out with his hand in order for Hunter to grab it and get off his sorry ass, he had not expected the drunk kid to grab the oatmeal right away. Much less commence in an eating-ritual that would make the most barbaric Gaul look civilized in the eyes of a Greek king. With the one hand he had held out, Nigel slowly planted its palm straight onto his own face, a facepalm one could be so inclided as to call it. He sighed heavily, face resting in the hand as he slowly stood up. Was there no saving grace for Hunter in this Greek comedy - tragedy?

The proposal for a wheelbarrow made Nigel turn to Morales, arms crossed and his patience growing thinner by every scoop of oatmeal. "If he keeps going like this, he sure needs it…Oh for the love of…" Nigel began to contemplate, interrupted by Hunter's feeble attempt at standing up and walking away. To Nikki dancing with someone else? To get away from the oppressive fist of the Roman? Fleeing ridecule? Whatever the cause of flight was, it wasn't working. Nigel's face found its old companion in the palm of his hand again, cursing under his breath. Clearly he wasn't the only one who disapproved of his behavior, though Nigel had to ask about it being marked down. "What did he mean by that? Mark it down? Is his behaviour being added to his list of debt, so to speak?"

Nigel couldn't really argue against such logic if that was the case. Resources were scarce, and here Hunter was wasting it just as much as he was wasted. In the ancient Roman army he might have been flogged, or worse. A different time indeed, so what was the punishment here? Nigel shook his head in disbelief, giving Cook and Morales an apologetic look as to apologize for Hunter's behaviour. In the end Nigel waved goodbye to both of them and anyone else who wached him leave with Hunter, a dissapointed father walking him unruly son home. Nigel didn't want to touch him unless he was going to fall over again, but he was ready to steady him if he must. "Good…good Hunter, I'll follow you to your room. I hope your sober self will come find me and the others tomorrow to give us an apology. For now we just want you to get some sleep. And that oatmeal? You really shouldn't have wasted it like that."

Amelia Payne

Location:Camp Mexico Beach: I11(Beach)->L10(Street)
Skills: N/A

β€žIndeed!” Amelia nodded with very enthusiastic manner as Riley confirmed the seashell was the one they were looking for. It was truly a pretty thing and made her wonder how it came to be in that exact shape. However it was a short lived wonder as her attention was pulled back to Riley. She hurriedly took Riley's hand and smiled with a blush.” Alright, let's get going. I'm feeling a bit tired too.” She smiled as they started walking.

Overall there was a lot that happened tonight. She held her loved one and they had a marvelous night, filled with a fairy tale like wonder. Who would have believed. There was still hope and good things in this world. While their continuous survival would be a running question and would take a while to confirm, at least there was hope and better life here and that was all that mattered. It was so much more than what they had on the road where there was not any of it. As long as both of them were together it would be good.

The beach was getting emptier by the moment with more and more people leaving. She felt a bit more comfortable with less people around, but honestly she really enjoyed the beach party. While she didn't like having attention, she did enjoy having people around. Holding onto Riley's hand still, she stopped before they got onto the street and only then put her shoes on. She had taken them all the way back when they were by the waterline after all. Asphalt wasn't nice sand, so no way she was walking on it bare feet. She leaned into Riley while they headed towards the housing they were at. Honestly she was really looking forward to this night and it proved to be everything, no proved to be way beyond anything she thought it would be. All she wanted now was to lay down in bed and cuddle with her lover. She felt just so tired after everything today, but in a good way.

Lisa Mason

Location:Camp Mexico Beach:L11(Beach, bar)
Skills: N/A

β€žWell, not like I can disagree with that point of yours.” Lisa smiled at Ada as they discussed the trainwreck that was Hunter's first social appearance in the new place! It was a grand event, a grand event of the NEGATIVE SCALES! She chuckled lightly at it, looking at Doggo Boy from distance. Ohh well, at least he was amusing enough to observe from afar. Maybe he'd settle down and start to fitting in after a good while. Who knows how long he was alone out there and everything he had experienced.

Gunny made his thoughts on the booze for the night known, but honestly Ada was ahead of him. Lisa noted she stopped serving a while ago now. She really started laughing again when Thalia started advancing the wild fucks lore even further! With their very own guild that is! The barkeep naturally joined right in, causing Lisa to continue laugh even more. Though eventually she managed to calm herself down enough.” Yeah I want a tshirt with that on. Talking to Tesla about it tomorrow as soon as possible so he fucking get working on it.” She grinned. Granted it wasn't something to wear out and about with children around, but ohh well.

Still it was about time to call it a night. She pondered it a bit, looking around at the different people already heading off to their homes and looked at Ada.” Need help cleaning up the place? I'm not all that tired and I could help.” Lisa asked, she wasn't lazy and Ada was good fun and while not best friends or anything, she liked the woman well enough to help out. What's more she could have another enlightement about Wild Fucks or something similar and no way she wanted to miss that.

Ash Holloway

Location: M12 (Beach)
Skills: N/A

Ash loosely curled one arm around Thana's waist again and held her closer to himself, even as she curled against him. It was like he was compelled to be as close to her as possible and if that meant he only had one hand to enjoy his seafood boil with, then he would make due. It felt good to be close to someone else in this way, and it felt better that it was Thana. The founders of CMB couldn't have come up with better timing for this soiree, either, or rather the time seemed to fall into place with their exit from Quarantine and Thana's return. He might have wished for a tiny change in the way that rumors of her demise were squashed before they had time to fester, but if everything in this new place was perfect, Ash would probably suspect something. It was all in the past, anyway, be it the very recent past. New chapter on his life; page had been turned, and suchlike.

Now, what did manage to snap him out of the fuzzy and nostalgic bent that his brain had gone on for the last several seconds were the insinuations that Thana herself was putting across to him. Ash definitely raised an eyebrow at the idea that she wouldn't need her strength for what was to follow their romantic time on the beach with fresh seafood, the stars, and each others' company. Though she was likely just kidding with him, Ash was amazed to find out that it did give a fraction of a second of genuine worry. However, the follow-up that he would most assuredly need his strength, and insisted that he eat up for that reason, smoothed that over rather readily. It even sounded like an order. He smiled. As a career Army man before the world fell apart, he was accustomed to receiving and following orders from a superior officer. And be they of different branches, Thana held the higher pay grade. Ash raised his hand into a proper military salute and responded with a subdued yet cheerfully acquiescent, "Yes, Ma'am," and saw to his meal with all of the decorum of a man who was set to do his proper duty. As many times, point of fact, as necessary until the task was completed to his superior's complete satisfaction. Digging deep, putting his back into it, setting his nose to the grindstone, and otherwise throwing himself wholeheartedly into the blissful labors thereof; so long as Thana was happy, so was Ash.

Leaning over, he kissed the side of Thana's neck and said, "We have all the time we need. All the time in the world. An' I'm happy I get to spend it with you." The general feeling in the air, at least for Ash, was that they were at the precipice of something big, and something new. For now, he could simply sit back and enjoy the salt air, the clear, night sky, and he couldn't ask for better company. It was a very nice night.

Thalia Carmichael

Location: L11 (Bar) -> M7 (Condo, 17B)
Skills: N/A

The lack of response about a skin artist in town settled that question for the time being. It was probably for the best anyway, seeing as a simple infection could claim lives nowadays unless someone in town knew how to make penicillin. But that really wouldn't have surprised Thalia, either. So to hell with it. Ask again later, different people, try to have something to trade for the service. As she was thinking this, her eyes couldn't move from the graceless acts of an over-intoxicated Hunter. It was not flattering in the least, and it seemed to strike Thalia a little more personally than she thought it might have. This was a person who apparently had a survival strategy not unlike her own, and that colored the rather antisocial nature of the both of them. She had made different decisions, though. And she always had a goal to work toward. Those two points counted for a lot. A mild change of perspective and the guy might not get himself banished via catapult, which was a funny concept in theory. But that would mean that he would be more like her... Nah, maybe it was better this way.

The off-and-on conversation around the bar continued with Adelaide describing Chase. While Thalia wasn't sure exactly what the stereotypical "Weather Girl" might be useful for, subsequent explanation had that making a lot of sense. Blonde, cute, 30s, loner, chased tornadoes back in the day. Hence the name. Monitored equipment, presumably related to her former profession. "Yah, thanks. Haven't met her," was all she would say about it. Not much of a discussion without a common frame of reference, but if she felt like continuing her mid-coital exploits with the home team here, she knew one that was single. File that away for a maybe.

The announcement that alcohol was shut down didn't overly bother Thalia. She had consumed one beer and switched away from it altogether. The tea tasted better to her anyway, and thought on the subject had her taking another sip. Yeah, good stuff. On the upside though, the idea of starting a Guild and getting shirts was being received well. Not much of a joiner, persay, there might be something to it anyway. It did make her think of a friend of hers from a while back, though, who would have jumped at this kind of opportunity. She was a loud and obnoxious bitch, and Thalia missed her greatly. But back to the present. The laughter of the local lady at the bar turned her head around at first, but it was the further discussion from Ada that inclined her to speak again. "I thought Yondar Sex Rock was a band. Or am I thinking of something else..?" she mused, before her brain registered something else from two seconds earlier. Less, maybe. "You guys gaht a D&D group here? I played in college. Hell, some of the lessons from it kept my ass alive when the Zeds came, y'know?" Like humanity started over as Level 1 characters and those who kept surviving got to level up. Thalia made a mental note to speak on that philosophy a little later on. It was good stuff. Another mental note - find the D&D group. Again, later.

It seemed that she had her own quest to fulfill, and it didn't involve dungeon crawling nor abnormally sized lizards with flaming halitosis. Thalia downed the rest of her tea with a series of gulps, wiped her mouth with the back of her ...no, she already hit herself with a steel arm once today, try again... (ahem) pulled the paper out of her back pocket and read it again. To the women with whom she had been talking, she said, "Pahty's winding down. I'm going to wind down with it. Hunt fucks with you anotheh time, alright? G'night then." It was probably as polite as she could scrape up right then, even to the point of surprising herself a little. Thalia found the appropriate spot for her glass, then took her leave.

Joaquin had some explaining to do.

Emanuel "Manny" Newman

Location: L9 (Street) --> L6 (Apartment 1D)
Skills: N/A

The walk to the apartment was simple and nice. Though it was hard to ignore the drunken boy and the way he spun and twirled as he walked. Who knows, maybe he was a dancer before things fell apart. "This pixie is going to be the one cleaning your teeth someday. Just keep that in mind." Manny said with a chuckle. These witty remarks helped any situation seen nicer, friendlier, and was a great outlet at times. Though he was right about watching his back. Manny was no fighter. Sure, he could handle a shotgun damn well. Some might say better then he understood the human body, but he was still a doctor. And had no real combat skills. Even in his youth where he got into fights regularly he wouldn't have called himself [*]Skilled[*]. "You should know, I haven't wet my bed since I was in my forties thank you very much." He said in his semi serious tone. "Buuuuut. Wednesdays sound fair. Though I have no idea what day of the week it is. So that is up to you to figure out. Until then, you have no way to prove it's not Wednesday." He smiled. These little jokes made everything so much better.

When Alexander brought up the kid, it didn't take Manny too much effort to figure out who he was talking about. He looked back again to see the boy still twirling, and noticed he seemed to be twitching, maybe reaching for something Manny couldn't see. But would stop as soon as he started. He almost wondered if the boy was delusional, but he wasn't that kind of doctor. So he had no way of telling. Making his way to his room though he told Alexander goodnight, and made his way to bed. This was a long week, and things were crazy all around. He wondered what the following weeks would have in store for him, Alexander, team Eden overall, and the new survivors in general.

Private Hunter James Monroe

Location: L10 --> L7 (Inside Condo)
Skills: N/A

Hunter was in and out at this point of the night. Sure, he was focused enough to respond in the moment, but most of what others were saying and what he was saying was lost relatively quick. One thing that did register, he was in everyone sights. By instinct, his hand kept going towards the side of his right leg, looking for something that was no longer there. He would realize quick, but would soon have his back over looking for it again. But they had taken it when he arrived here, and that was always a late thought that came to the soldier boy. Every now and again he would reach over to his left side using his right hand, turning around as he did so as if looking for something. But as he kept doing this while walking, he almost tripped each time, and his hand never seemed to find what it was looking for. Though he would still do the spinning, searching motion. As if expecting someone to come up on him. He felt... watched. Hunted. He didn't like it. He registered a lot of old people, some kids, and Nigel. Every now and again slipping why Nigel was with him, but he chalked it up to they probably lived near each other. "Thought someone grabbed it..." He said as a late response about the oatmeal. Very late all things considering, the lack of context didn't help. Then again, reaching over to his right leg. But still missing. He felt... Naked without it. Or without any of his gear.

His stumbling was... He was going in the right direction. And he wasn't falling over. Again. That he was done with. He looked over to see general housing. Seemed to be the place to go, he was pretty sure he lived there now. He stumbled towards the door attempting to straiten his uniform as he went. Despite the abuse he had put it through the last few years, and this evening especially, it still held up really well. Other then the oatmeal that landed up on him the uniform held off from the sand rather well. He stopped outside the door though, not sure if everything was alright. He reached yet again towards the side of his leg. With the item of note still missing, his reach ended rather fast again. Didn't stop him from reaching to his left for another item of note, only again to not be found. He knew he had to go inside... but he wasn't sure he expected. He knew it should be safe, but some form of warning alarm was going off in his head that he was at least 40% sure wasn't just him being dizzy from being under weight and over drinking. He reached into his pocket for his key, noting it was still there. Good. Something was where it was supposed to be.

Before going in, he turned to Nigel who he had taken note had been following him. "Thanks." He barely muttered out. He knew there was a reason for thanking him, but it was slipping now. Maybe it would come to him later. Letting himself into the building, he walked down the hall to his room, with the key now tightly held between his middle and index finger, pointing outwards with his fist, but still walking casually (As he could being wasted at least) Part of him knew it wasn't needed, but he couldn't shake the feeling. Making his way to his room he unlocked the door now letting the key into a more relaxed position. When unlocked, he put it between his fingers with his fist yet again. Inside, he was revealed to see his best friend. "Hey Girl..." He let the heavy dog go up and lick his face, nearly knocking him over. He rubbed her for a bit, then crashed in bed with a huge mound of love and muscle laying on his side. Who if left unchecked, would probably knock him off the bed.

Year 5: Part 3

Date: July 22nd, 2012
Map in Original OOC post - NPC's In CS Tab

Location: Camp Mexico Beach

Temperature: 70F
Humidity: High (Around 72%) - No Rain
Wind Speed: 18 MPH
Cloud Coverage: Clear

Note: Last post of the day - Next update will be new day. Wrap up what you are doing, hit the sack, etc. If already asleep or passed out (coughHuntercough) then perhaps a dream sequence.

Slowly Bass lowered Nikki back down to the ground, it was the last song of the evening so it was probably best not to have her feet flailing around. Well not exactly the last song but the last fora slow dance. There seemed to be one more coming up but Ray was enjoying the slow dance with Nikki, he had asked her after all. He had to admit he was surprised she cashed in on it but he wasn't going to complain. "After this I gotta get up on stage for one more song," he told her quietly.

Tesla and Shears wandered from the beach and up onto the street, not too far behind Alexander. They had kids in tow, adults were coming up and picking up a few here and there. Ones that weren't being picked up Shears broke off with and headed towards some houses just south of the cluster of school buildings. Tesla had his hands full with left over roman candles and buckets of discarded and used fireworks that needed proper disposing of. "Alright ya rugrats, time to hit the sack. The Professor is waiting on ya," Shears said as he waddled along, picking up one of the younger kids as she started to fall behind yawning.

Cook look over towards Nigel and nodded. "Kind of. Demerits for poor behavior, things to discuss with therapists, additional debt, could be a number of things. Means he'll be taken to speak with the General tomorrow and a report will be filed," she explained as she kept stacking and piling up dishes.

"Yeah, just ain't the best way to start out, especially with y'all being on probation right now, bad first impression," Morales added as he finished scraping some plates into a bin. "Want me to get this down to the gardens?" he asked turning his attention to cook.

"Please, think Sparrow is turning the compost piles in the morning," Cook said, seemingly grateful she wouldn't have to deal with it tonight.

Riley slipped her arm around Amelia's shoulder as they walked, giving her a bit of balance as she needed it while Amelia put her shoes back on. "Starting to understand why Captain Tightpants was so keen to get here," Riley said in passing as they continued, not that Ash would have known what this place was going to be like when Thana told him this was where she was headed but still, things seemed to be working out for those there. "Let's get home," she added after a minute and then paused. "Home, sounds good," she smiled as she gave Amelia a kiss on the cheek as they got to their apartment.

A woman was standing at the door, unlocking it as the couple came up. Blonde hair, average height and build, looking rather wind blown in pink overalls. Tucking her hair behind her ear she looked at them. "I'm Beth, well Chase," she said unlocking the door. "Anyways, will be hot tomorrow, no rain, night," she said as she stepped inside and went straight to her room. The door closing heavy behind her. Riley went to say something but Chase was so quick to get to her room there really wasn't much of a chance. Shaking her head she waited for Amelia before turning in.

Adelaide shook her head. "Nah, Dusty will be down in a bit with the trailer so we can haul most of this and the bands equipment back up to the storage," she said as she started wiping down the counters. Glancing over towards Thalia she nodded. "Yeah, meets twice a week in the evenings. Usually is posted on the bulletin board for times and locations each Sunday night, should check it out," she said as she started putting bottles in a box to hand off to the kitchen staff to wash for her.

Bass leaned back at the song ended. "One more song," he reminded her before giving her a kiss on the head and heading back on stage. It looked like people were wandering off, wrapping up, and the like. The place was going to be pretty empty soon. Thing was, Bass didn't pick up his bass. The other guys were starting to put down their instruments as well. Panama moving things out of the way while Atticus took the last mic on stage and chuckled.

"Last song, forgive us lord, for we know exactly what we do..." he said before handing the mic over to Spots and her holding it up to a CS Player as she hit play. Now, picture if you will - Preacher, Bass, Panama, Volts, and Maddog - in a line on stage and well... Not singing but Lip Syncing a rather choreographed Dance. Bass and Volts were doing great, Panama was a joke but having fun, Preacher was trying his damnedest not to look like the Father With Two Left Feet. Maddog... he was living it up in a way that wasn't usually expected from him. (This caused the General to stare oddly at his son, and Gunny to have to turn away and chew on the inside of his mouth to not laugh.)

Adelaide snorted beer through her nose and nearly choked to death watching this, as did many others. This was not expected. It was a wonder they waited until the end of the night to pull this but it looked like they had been rehearsing it for a while. It was obviously all in good fun but this was some shit they were probably never going to live down. It was a hell of a way to end the day.

Thana Martin

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: M12 (Beach) -> L11 (Dish Tub)
Skills: N/A

Feeling Ash's arm slid around her waist, Thana leaned into him a bit more. She really didn't have a problem using him as a make-shift lounge chair right then. Feet in the sand, curled up against her man. It wasn't a bad way to enjoy the evening. Especially there looking out over the waves. She had spent many hours while she was recovering just looking out over the water in thought. Thinking about Ash, wondering where he was, if he was still alive. There hadn't been any signs, all she had was a feeling in her gut for the longest time that he was still alive and kicking somewhere. Granted, by the time her and Mizrahi had started heading back to Mexico Beach after weeks on the road, that hope was nearly nonexistent. By the time they rolled in and she was climbing out of the truck, it was gone.

Turning her head she looked at Ash, she doubted she would ever forget what she felt when they were reunited. The way it was like hearing a ghost when she heard him say her name. The way time seemed to slow down as she turned around and pulled down her sunglasses to see him running towards her. They had fallen from her hands. She had been trembling, limping towards him, part of her thinking she had finally snapped and was seeing things. How her knees gave out from under her as she tried to walk closer to him. How she would have hit the ground hadn't he caught her up in his arms and spun her around. How she cried, she never cried, she cried then though. Letting out a slowly breath, Thana leaned in and kissed Ash's cheek. No she would never forget that, nor the countless nights afraid she would never see him again.

Snuggling a bit closer she kept eating. She didn't believe they had all the time in the world but they had now and that was a lot in a world like this. As she finished eating she gathered up her plate and such. Standing up. "Come on, let's get this put up. Then you can carry my ass to bed," she said sticking her tongue out at him. She wanted to walk a little bit at least. Be good to stretch her legs after sitting and eating in the sane for the last bit.

Yet, maybe she should have stayed on the beach a bit longer because as she came up to one of the dish tubs she had to stop from dropping her things as she spotted her uncle lip syncing N'Sync and doing his best Doug'in'fresh impression. Thana's eyed widened. "I might be scarred for life..." she half mumbled, half laughed. Looking over for Ash she dropped her plates off and let out a sharp breath. "Okay, Cinderella has had enough of that," she laughed, motioning towards the stage. "Get me 'da hell outta here."

Nikola Warren

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: L11 (Dance Floor -> Stage)
Skills: N/A

Feeling her feet gently hit the dance floor again, Nikki looked up at Bass. "Alright, I can hang around for a few," she said before resting her head back down on his chest. It was about as good as she could do while they danced, the man did stand a solid foot taller than she did. Maybe heels wouldn't be such a bad idea, she could learn to walk in them. Hell she could skateboard without much issue, then again four wheels and a board was a lot more to stand on than two spikes. Okay, maybe heels were out of the question. Oh well at least he was strong enough to pick her up to his height if needed, which partly was insulting but partly hilarious to her. She chuckled to herself to think how silly is looked when he picked her up to dance and her feet were dangling below. Probably a good thing it took a lot to make her embarrassed. Not a lot to piss her off but shame wasn't a problem. She had little.

As the song came to an end she stepped back and blew a large bubble with her gum as she shoved her hands in her back pockets. "Okay," she said as the bubble popped and she sucked the gum back into her mouth. Chewing, she started to tilt her head to the side as Bass didn't pick up his bass. Her head tilted to the other side as the other guys on stage started putting down their instruments. Had she misheard? Was there not another song tonight? One brow started to raise as Spots took the mic, the other joined it as the guys lined up on stage.

Nikki's ass hit the ground laughing as the song started up and the guys started lip syncing and dancing to it. The girl nearly choked to death on her gum as she accidentally swallowed it. It took half way through the song before she could control her laughter long enough to roll over onto all fours and start to actually get back to her feet. By the time the song drew to a close she had tears of laughter rolling down her cheeks, which hurt as much as her sides did. "You... carry... my ass.... What the fuck... my place...holy fuck.... " she laughed and chortled between breaths as she grabbed Bass from the stage once the song was over. It was time to turn in, at her place.

Alexander Polawski

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: L6 (Street outside Education Center -> Apartment 1C)
Skills: N/A

Alexander had to give it to Manny; for someone whod been threatened with a shotgun shoved up his backside many moons ago, he had grown to become a source of light in Alexander's social circle. He could take a verbal punch from the old veteran just like his brothers in arms had, and hit back just as hard, but more importantly just as funny. Alexander chuckled at Manny's replies, holding his hands up in front of him. "Fair point. Keep my health clean and healthy, and I'll keep your big mouth safe. Deal?" Alexander proposed, giving Manny a long, good smile at their fiendship. They needed people like that in this world. Alexander needed that.

The old veteran too noticed poor Hunter drunk as a skunk, shaking his head at the fool he had made of himself. There wasn't anything he could do for that kid now, but perhaps later? The thought of redemption crossed Alexander's mind, but it blew away just as quickly as Manny bid him a good night. He quietly told him to sleep well too, watched Alexander walk before he himself went inside. The sight of Tesla and Shears leading the kids up the street held him back, again reminding him of the flashback he'd had earlier. Alexander gave them all a small wave and a smile, both knowing the horrors children never should but undoubtly had been exposed to, and hoping their future was brighter than his own.

Perhaps they'd want some gum? He wanted to give them some gum.

Alexander finally entered the General Housing and slowly waddled over to his own room. The key was still in his pocket, alongside the photograph he'd been given earlier. He pulled out both, looking at the image of himself and his long-gone comrade and friend. So many memories of that California kid with the sun in his eyes. And the other one? A long-lost Chicago kid the cold winter wind in his back. A long call from today, but the memories remained. Who knew what kinds of memories the General's photographs would bring back.

He sighed to himself, locking himself in his bedroom and going to bed. The photograph lay at his bedside as he kneeled before his bed and clutched the rosary around his wrist. Quietly he prayed to God to forgive him and his sins, hear his prayers and guide him in these troubling times. Before he finally put himself to bed, he lifted his head up and spoke directly to the Lord above, a tear running down his cheek. "And Lord? Please, if you can, tell Judith I love her. Amen."

Then ol' Mugsy went to bed and fell asleep.

Nigel "Hadrian" Cooper

Location: Camp Mexico Beach: L10-> L6 (Apartment 3C)
Skills: N/A

The answers given to Nigel on the nature of Hunter's probably reprimands echoed in his mind, still following the drunk boy up the street to wherever he was to sleep. Their words rang louder than whatever Hunter was trying to mumble to his Roman baby-sitter. Again he agreed with the need for some form of punishment for this kind of behaviour, but he couldn't help but feel sorry for Hunter in general. Perhaps miserable was too strong a word to decribe the young soldier who didn't have anyone, but Nigel felt it still fit. Only time would tell if he could be transformed to something more civilised.

Nigel kept careful watch over Hunter's stumbling towards the General housing, noting the two older gentlemen looking back at them in the distance. The one with a fake leg and burdened mind from what he gathered, and his friend. He knew very little about them, but they had been with Thalia and Beatrice when they came here, and from that he figured they were a tough bunch. The older guard of the Roman republic, the Triarii so to speak. Perhaps it would be in his interest to learn from his elders, wiser and more experience as they should be?

Nigel followed Hunter inside and made sure he got as close and safely to his sleeping quarters as Nigel was allowed to go. He nearly missed Hunter giving him a muttered "Thanks", looking back at him with a half-smile. "You're welcome. See you in the morning." Nigel replied, though sure that the kid wasn't going to remember a single word in the morning.

And like that, Nigel was standing alone again. It was dark outside, and as Nigel made his way back to his own quarters he felt a little darkness penetrate his flesh as well. But he would endure like the soldier he was, just from another time. He locked himself inside his room and sat down at the bed, for a good while staring blankly out into empty space and simply reflecting on tonight's events. Many things had happened, many words had been spoken, but only the future would reveal their effects. How would he fit into this new society? Would he find new companions like some already had, where would Erica be in all of this, and would things ever be the same? Nigel fell asleep with these thoughts running through his mind, his body still unfamiliar with the comfort of a bed and safety of sturdy walls.

Amelia Payne

Location:Camp Mexico Beach: L10(Street)->M7(Condo 14B)
Skills: N/A

Amelia smiled as Riley mentioned Ash and his goal to bring them to this place. It truly was the best decision that had been made back then. Admittedly no one could have been sure how it would turn out, but Amelia did follow him, she trusted him and the trust was well placed as usual. Unless he had to drive... better not let him drive. In any case, walking side by side, it was quite relaxing. She just realized it actually, they were literally walking down the street after a night party at the beach! There wasn't a danger on the street, no walkers to wander about... This was usually near impossible to imagine after so long on the roads when they had to keep ultra low at nights because well walkers made do better at darkness than them.

Getting to the Condo's they found whom Amelia supposed was the third person that lived at it. It was a blonde woman, Amelia didn't quite recognize her, but she smiled and nodded as the woman introduced herself. For some reason she told them the weather forecast and then went into her room and closed it before they could introduce themselves to her. Amelia was left a bit confused, but it was fine. Maybe she was just tired.” Let's get to our room then. Better get some rest as well. We will probably get a chance to meet and introduce ourselves to her properly tomorrow.” She smiled and followed Riley into their new home.

She looked at the bed and walked to it, placing the souvenir they found at the beach on the bedstand. She then took off the clothing she wore and then neatly folded it before placing it nearby, before finally laying down and waited for her lover to join her. She couldn't feel calm unless Riley was close at night. Both to protect the woman in case something happened and just her presence was calming. The only thing she missed was to have a weapon at hand in case of emergencies.” Time get some sleep, I'm feeling so tired tonight.” Amelia mumbled.

Lisa Mason

Location:Camp Mexico Beach:L11(Beach, bar) ->M7(Apartment 6B )

Hmm D&D, now that was not something she had done much of prior to the whole apocalypse madness, a few goes at it back when she was a teen. Nowdays here in the camp, it was more of available pastime, after all there wasn't cable or anything of the like and if nothing else D&D allowed you to do almost anything in a fantasy world so that was a near endless source of entertainment. D&D, THE go to entertainment in the zombie apocalypse! Who would have thought, it was a bit amusing.

β€œWell, if that's the case, I will be heading off then.” She smiled as she sat up and pulled away from the bar. Since Ada didn't need her help, she wasn't going to push herself into it, no need to be a bother. With a smile she started walking in the direction of the apartments when the final song for the night started happening and she nearly tripped on the flat sand, swinging her arms a bit to regain her footing and balance. She managed, but started laughing at the sight of it all. She gave a big thumbs up and after being amused by it for a bit, she resumed heading back home. It was a long day and she was alone tonight, so she was going to get a good night's rest!

She felt positively tired by the time she returned home. Long day, long night, pleasant night it was though. All in all it was a great time. She got undressed, crashed into the bed and huddled into the soft bedsheets. It was a good life here.

Ash Holloway

Location: M12 (Beach) -> M7
Skills: N/A

The kiss on his cheek was sweet. A rare, tiny piece of innocence in a world that destroyed innocence outright. Ash gave another smile and hugged her closer for a moment. It occurred to him that if they got any closer, the two of them would have to learn how to eat while sitting in each others' laps. Giving it some thought, that wasn't really so unpleasant a prospect. Hell, he might insist on it before too long. Ash shook his head slightly and returned to his meal. It was amazing how one could absently consume a meal without consciously being aware of it. Such was it with Ash, who looked down to a mostly empty plate that he fully remembered eating in hindsight but which still gave him a microsecond of surprise. Tilting back the last two tiny, round potatoes, Ash rose alongside Thana, agreeing wholeheartedly with her suggestion for the remainder of the evening. Get this put up, carry her ass to bed. "Sounds good to me," he said, readying for Step One of the overall plan.

Ash did have his concerns about Thana using her leg after sitting down like they both were for a while. She didn't seem to mind very much. Even punctuated this concept by sticking her tongue out at him. Yeah, she was fine. But the second that Step Two of Thana's master plan came into play, he was snatching her up like a Black Friday toaster oven and hauling ass.

Getting back to the compost bin and dish tub brought the pair in line of sight with the stage. Now, Ash was never really an N'Sync fan. Music of any kind these days was a blessing, no doubt about it, but this was a special case. Looking at these men, these really tough guys, performing particularly bad choreography to a hit from the boy band era, Ash realized that he probably didn't have that kind of courage. Facing down hordes of animated corpses that wanted to gnaw his face off, sure. Fighting off cultists, or cannibals, or bandits, yeah. Gathering his people together after their home collapses into a sinkhole and embarking upon a year and a half (plus change) long quest to find a woman he met and fell in love with, goes without saying. But to somehow draw from within him the courage to do that? Not unless the upper management of Camp Mexico Beach profoundly upped the drink limits for these soirees.

All that was left, with the exception of staring oddly at the stage for a moment or so longer, was to do as told and get Thana the hell out of there. A look of mischief took Ash. It was time for Step Two. "As the Commander requests," he said with a nod of his head, and swept Thana up in his arms. She did say carry her to bed. Confident steps brought them away from the beach en route to Officer's Housing. He noted that others were likewise on their way back to their quarters or wherever beckoned them at this hour of the evening. That was their business. The only business that mattered to Ash was in his arms, her form comfortably pressed against him as he walked along, careful not to aggravate her not-quite-fully healed leg.

Thalia Carmichael

Location: M7 (Condo, 17B)
Skills: N/A

A lot to take in. A lot to adjust to. Trust was still not an easy thing to come by. Being inside of walls and living by someone else's code of conduct was also not particularly easy for her. If this place wasn't run by Thana's people she might have more of an issue than she did. And of course the cincher was that she had actual blood family here as well; a brother through their father, though they had different mothers. That was not the kind of thing that she could just walk away from. Shiny metal arm that she had to learn how to use, not to mention the necessity of using her left for detail work now. Though that was not something brought about by this place. It happened because she got sloppy. So, fine. This was home now. The idea of getting some time to herself in the woods or the hills, fire hardening a stout sapling or straight branch into a spear was not going to happen for a while yet. Maybe it was for the best. Thalia had so much to relearn. She felt like such a novice.

Thalia was already walking off by the time the last song of the night began. In contrast to the ones which had come before it, this one wasn't live. It was enough to make Thalia turn around in the sand and give the stage a quick peek. Not because she liked the song any more than the rest of them, but because it was different. Different, out in the world, usually meant "pay attention, dumbass", otherwise she wouldn't have bothered. What she saw was seared into her retinas so badly that after closing her eyes and shaking her head a few times, she could still see it. No, no this was a good time to slip away before anyone noticed. "What the hell kind of place did I wander into?" she whispered to herself. The man from whom she would hopefully be taking military training was up there, gyrating away. Thalia moved away slowly until she felt comfortable putting her back to it, then left it behind her. It wasn't until after she cleared the scene and was halfway back to her assigned bunk (with Joaquin, which was kind of nice) that she started to laugh at what she saw. It felt like the first time in a while.

Dodging people and letting the children have a wide berth in front of her, Thalia finally made it back to her quarters. She would deal with this treasure hunt, or whatever it was, when it was convenient to do so. It was time for sleep. Check that; it was time to sit someplace, uncomfortable in semi-civilized surroundings and making security sweeps of her assigned room, until she could turn off her more cautious senses enough to slip into a state of rest. She expected that starting tomorrow, things would get busy.

Emanuel "Manny" Newman

Location: L6 (Apartment 1D)
Skills: N/A

Manny enjoyed night walks like this. They became harder when the dead started lurking in the dark, but they were still nice none the less. Plus night shooting was very illegal in many states so Manny had little experience in the matter. But doing this night walk with someone he knew, trusted, and could have a nice conversation with? Perfect. Reminded him of the days when he was still married in many ways. Though he didn't see Alexander as that kind of friend. Manny figured those days were long over for him. Which, he didn't mind. He lived a good life, was married twice, enjoyed those marriages, and now was back to figuring out how retirement would work. Though he doubted he would live in his own house again, it was nice to be having a safe and reliable place to call home. Even if the walls and gates around him caused more unease then he would like to admit. Something about not being able to leave... bothered the old Dentist.

But as the conversation went on, it was easy to forget those fears. A good sign that they were minor and he would get over it. Or maybe that meant they would build up and he would snap someday? He wasn't sure. Again, not that kind of doctor. And he had little interest to be. So using his experienced ( Or lack there of ) He went with the first option. Minimal fear. "I think you have yourself a deal. But I will be very disappointed if I poke a metal prong in those gums and they bleed." He said with a smile. Sure, flossing helped strengthen your gums, but many people just blamed the poke so why not play along with those who don't understand his field.

He made his way to the bathroom, flossed, brushed, and rinsed. Not the perfect setup, but a lot better then what he had before. Just because he was old, and in a place with decent healthcare, didn't mean he was allowed to neglect the basics. Clean teeth were happy teeth. Plus, a rotting tooth hurts like all hell. Once he decided that his teeth were all cleaned up for the night he went back to his bed, changed into night clothes, and rested for a new day to come. Tomorrow he would be starting a task that was something also very much out of his field. Education. Children. And the librarian.

Private Hunter James Monroe

Location:L7 (Inside Condo)
Skills: N/A

Hunter slept like he always slept. Face down, half off the bed, with 110 pounds of love slowly pushing him off. He rarely slept easy though. Nightmares were frequent for the soldier boy, and he rarely knew how to cope with them or the events they were about. If he was more experienced in life, older in general, or had seen professional help as a child, or even in recent months, they may be better. But the closest to therapy that he has ever gotten, consisted of gathering up thousands of rounds of ammunition for weeks on end, finding a nice spot to do some damage and hunker down, and unleash hell for a few days strait into a passing horde of the undead. It helped, but it mostly just distracted him. But his arms, shoulders, legs, and head always felt like Jelly afterwards and he would sleep for at least a full day or two afterwards.

In his dream, Hunter was on watch with a hunting rifle in hand. It was dark, but he was used to the night. Easiest time to move as long as you had decent night vision. Outside, one of the largest hordes he has seen since the early days. At least 2 or 3 thousand. But they left him alone on his elevated position. On top of the old farming and agricultural store he had a decent vantage point of the surrounding area. The building was old and made of brick, so the walls were strong. The metal fence was decent as well, but it had given under the pressure a few days ago. So now that stood between him and the undead outside, were some glass doors held shut with the metal gates to stop looters. Plus a simple barricade.

About half way into his watch, he heard footsteps from behind him. He had a good guess who it was. But if it wasn't who he thought it was, the horde below may get more riled up then he was ready for. Slowly turning, he saw her. "You're late." He said making eye contact, keeping the rifle leaning against the edge of the building. "I know. Don took forever to fall asleep. Fucking jackass." She was older then Hunter, but you couldn't tell from looking at her. She stood barely over five foot, and walked like a tired child who just got out of bed. "You okay?" The soldier boy asked in a quiet tone, careful not to disturb the horde below. She simply nodded and sat by Hunter on an identical folding chair. They were here to talk, but both clearly didn't want to start the conversation. Finally, Hunter broke the silence. "How... how long has it been.... happening." She shrugged. "Depends. Since they were not treating me as a prisoner? A few months. Been with them a bit longer though." She talked as if she was recalling events of a book she had little interest in. Her eyes gave a different story, that if Hunter didn't already know the rest of the story, he would have missed it entirely. "Lucy the same..." He asked. Now not able to make eye contact. For a reply, he got a nod. "Oh god..." He leaned his head down grabbing his hair. "God... I should have... I should have known." The girl didn't make eye contact with him, but her face returned to a stone expression hiding her true thoughts.

He wished he was someone who knew how to solve social problems. He wished he knew how to convince people to do things that needed to be done. But he could barely do that with himself at times, let alone with others. And now? "I'll.... make it right. I promise." He wasn't sure how he would. But something had to work. "Just don't make it worse. You know what's going on now, so surely you can do that much." He nodded. As if that was enough of an answer. But he still felt he had to fix things, right the wrongs. He took a good look at the rifle he was keeping watch with. In his mind, the odds were three to five. Manageable. But only two people of his three could be relied on for a fight, and only one had a gun. The five, different story. As far as he could see, he had two choices. Let things stay as they are... Or repeat what happened the night his unit fell apart. Both were poor options in his mind. "This fucking sucks." The girl did a simple laugh, with an expression that would match the question 'Are you serious?'. She composed her self rather fast though as to not draw the attention of the horde below. "Preaching to the choir Soldier Boy."

Notes: It is the dawning of a new day. Under each PC's door a note was slipped: job assignments. You may notice, some characters misunderstood what was said. Recommendations for AFTER probation when a job became open does not mean they are starting there. Everyone starts at the bottom and works their way up.

Now we are skipping breakfast and moving right to the meat of the day - locate your characters information below and pick up from there. Remember to switch out your characters header code!

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The night drew to a close without incident and all the new comers were tucked safety in their beds with visions of citrus and shrimp dancing in their heads. Well maybe not but some were drunk enough. Come morning we started a new day. Reveille, if you can believe it, blared out through speakers in bedrooms in the top corners of walls around Camp Mexico Beach, at 0600 hours.

All the new comers had lovely bright yellow pieces of paper slipped under their doors over night, some time between when they went to bed and when they were woken up by canned trumpets. On said pieces of papers a weeks schedule was given. Where you were working and who you reported to for the next seven days, as well as when your meal times were, when you were to change out clothing, what your work hours were from and to each day.

Those with required therapy also had that listed out. Those were therapy was not required but recommended there is a note to see Doc during your down time if you wish to schedule therapy. People that were either members of Newnan when it fell or that were part of Team Eden also have an added note: 1400 hours, report to Assembly for transport to the Cemetery if you wish to pay final respects to those that were transported from Georgia to CMB for burial: James/Ryan/Lola/Gavin.

There is a bulletin board outside of the Mess Hall that has a map of the area and is labeled where things are. It also has listings for what is open where and when for people to visit: The Church, Band Practice, Quilting Bee, DnD Sessions, Swimming Lessons, Deep Sea Fishing, Games, Rec Room, Classes, etc. These are all things people can do in their free time. There is also signup sheets for additional hours if people wish to work off debts or earn extra credit for things in supply or to have a buffer if needed: each job is dependent on what a person has access to and this drastically limits additional hours for those on probation. The highest paid gigs are listed as: Runner to ~insert a set of numbers here~ and have a note to see Maddoc if interested. (Those on probation or in therapy need not apply.)

Breakfast is hosted between 0600 and 0730 hours. It is broiled white fish and grits. Everyone is to report to their jobs by 0800 hours. You can work out if you wish with other Rpers what you may want to put in passing in your posts about what happened at breakfast as we are skipping it essentially. The New Day and Posts actually start out at 0755 hours, five minutes before you are to be at your jobs. You are to be at your job and reporting in by end of post, if not you will be assumed ~Late for the first day~ - Individual notes, where to go, who to report to, etc. is all listed below. Everyone that is new to CMB is starting out in supply but reports to a supervisor in a specific area and will get their assignments from them at the start of the day. Those having to report to Assembly at 1600 for transport to Cemetery to pay Final Respects, your supervisors have been informed.

You are now officially welcomed to Camp Mexico Beach! Let the games begin! Those with NPC or Shelved Roommates - they will give general hello's and such in the morning and small chit chat - Bass never made it home last night.

Administration (A): The hub of CMB and as such, even at an early hour is busy. While outside the building people are milling about and heading towards work, people are already at work inside. As one walks in there is a long desk like most reception areas and the walls are lined with paneling and notices. Clip boards hang up that have papers on them, each section and building in CMB has one, the person in charge of said area, their callsign above it. Gunny is standing there being handed one of the said clipboards by an older looking woman.

"These are the final counts on the supplies brought in on the twenty-first, and the balances left on these accounts," she said in a rather overly dramatic southern accent. Gunny nodded as he stood there reading over them. "And here are the requisitions for fuel from the Mess, and Transportation needs your sign off on the voucher for this afternoon. Medical needs Engineering out on the 3rd floor today. Safety is running low here and here. And Operations needs sign off on the trades on the 1st between Shoals and the Mill."

"Mmm-hmm," Gunny said as he kept reading, sighing off as he needed, flipping from one sheet to another.

Medical (B): The hospital is buzzing. People coming in, checking in, and heading to where they need to go. The place is run much like hospitals were run before the outbreak, just with more security as Roy is standing by and keeping an eye out for anyone that doesn't get cleared by reception before they try to head up that isn't on staff. Doc and S.B. are there, going over the new addition to the hospital today. White walls, bright lights, and smells like lysol and bleach had a bastard child in the lobby.

"So? She's mine and now he's hers," S.B. said before taking a sip of coffee from the cup she was holding, caption: Witch Better Have My Coffee.

"I told you I needed someone else for O.R. clean up," Michael said rubbing his face.

"Don't care. I need the extra hand with meds, so Lisa is off cleaning duty now and the new guy is taking over her position. If you're nice I might let you write off one shift a week," she said with a smirk.

"You're not scary, you're just a bitch," Doc said as he finished signing off and tossed the clipboard back at Mary.

She caught it and chuckled. "Oh hun, that sweet talk makes me week in the knees." Michael gagged and walked off, heading up the stairs mumbling something under his breath. Roy just shook his head slightly and held up a finger. "Don't go there," she said, cutting him off before he started.

Mechanics (K): How I love the smell of axle grease in the morning, and gasoline, and transmission fluid. "Frankie! Where the fuck is 3/8th's torque!" a heavy set woman with closely cropped hair, several tank tops shoved in old covered carpenter pants, and covered in tattoos yelled. It was Rosie, AKA Rivets - the shop foreman

"Bench," Mizrahi said from under a Ford F150.

Looking around, she spotted it and snatched it up, yanking at her pants to pull them up more and leaning back over the engine of the same truck. The sound of the wrench clicking as she turned it could be heard echoing through the shop. Volts was sitting at bench with his hands draped over a clipboard. "How long?"

"Day or two," came from under the truck as Mizrahi slid out from under it. Standing up pulled a stained rag from his pocket and started cleaning up his hands.

Righting herself, Rivets lifted the solenoid out and nodded as she tossed the wrench back on the bench. "Yeah, sounds about right," she said as she set the part down. "Once that is refabed," she added pointing to the part.

Volts sighed and picked it up. "Right, will get it to Tesla. Any word on when the next junk run will be?" he asked.

"Waiting on Dog to get back to me," Rosie said as she picked at the grease under her nails.

Supply (R): "I am about at the end of my rope!" Atlas yelled at Auntie who was standing behind the counter in Supply. The place was set up like a rather organized Good Will. Rows for clothing, towels, linens, things people could earn credits for, etc. The main stuff that actual divisions needed was in the back beyond a door that said - Authorized Personnel Only.

"Then ya tie it in a noose and slip if over yer head! I don't give a shit if ya want a tutu for a dance recital, I am backed up, you'll just have to wait!" Auntie snapped from under the brim of her floppy hat.

"Oh come on! Can't ya just look?" Atlas asked but he wasn't asking nicely, he was growling at the woman.

Tossing a bag on the counter, Auntie shook her head before shoving a pointed finger towards the door. "Now get the hell outta here or next trade with the Mill and I'm getting ya that sandpaper single ply fer you to wipe yer hemorrhoids with!"

"Oh Horseshit!" Atlas gawked before snatching up bag of laundry and storming towards the door cursing not so subtlety under his breath.

Hydroponic Gardens (T): The sun was up, it was shining. The combination of that and the heat already out and one could smell the compost heap on the backside of the Gardens. It was a smaller one. Surrounded by boards to keep it contained. There were plants growing outside of greenhouse itself. Rows of small plants in starts boxes. A shed marked tools was on the side of the building.

The gardens themselves were inside a long greenhouse, not a glass one but one that was mostly sheets of plastic that covered the frame of the garden itself. It was long wide and took up a good amount of space, seemed to just keep going form near the road and towards the beach. Hanging up on the wall at the shed was clipboards, paperwork, lists, etc. for both this Garden, listed as Hydroponic, and another one, listed as Underwater.

Thana, if questioned, wouldn't admit it but her mind wasn't on where she was going but where she had been. Thinking back to her night with Ash and even more so waking up in his arms. It was something she doubted she would ever get used to and she didn't want to. When one got used to something it tended to mean they were taking it for granted. After everything that had happened, that was something she never desired to occur. Her mind was on watching him out of the corner of her eye as they got ready, as they headed for breakfast, even the quick kiss before she went on duty and had to head over to see Cook half an hour before others needed to report in. It cut their breakfast together short, that she didn't like but she was in no position to argue. Taking a deep breath, Thana got the lists from Cook and started to make her way out of the mess towards the Hydroponic Gardens.

Her mind still on Ash until they came into sight. Then her mind flipped to work as well. There was a lot to do today. There was a lot to do every day but more so today thanks to the Boils down on the beach. Not that Thana minded. It was nice to have evenings like that. Within the walls there was a normalcy that didn't happen outside of them. Sure there was still plenty to show this world was different. People training, open carry by officers and security and safety, and more. Yet this was about as normal as things got these days wasn't it? This little world within these walls was as close to how it used to be as one would probably ever get. Remembering her first day in Agriculture in Newnan, Thana knew that even this wasn't normal. True normal these days was outside those walls. All this, everything else, was just temporary.

Enjoy it, all of it. Getting to the Garden, Thana took the clipboard from the wall and looked over it before comparing it to the notes that Cook gave her. Some adjustments would need to be made but it could work, hopefully, as long as things went smooth enough. She was supposed to have some help today. Her assignments note told her that Nigel, one of the people that came in outside of the groups she knew. "Oh yeah the one two Hetro Life Mates call Sportacus," she thought to herself. She remembered the file now. Fit, educated, smart, and well adjusted it seemed from the file. Good, the last thing she needed today was having to work with some headcase.

Nikki wore a shit-eating grin on her lips and had since she crawled over Bass and out of bed this morning. It seemed the Fuck Hunt had paid off for her and she was feeling much better this morning than she would have if she had spent the night alone. Thinking on it as she headed towards Supply, perhaps she could have been nicer when she woke up though. She hadn't been mean but she wasn't all snuggly either. She was ready to get up and get moving. Bass was left still putting his shoes on as she left the place that morning and had to run to catch up with her for breakfast. She wasn't having it though, she grabbed her breakfast and went to bother the Professor about something. Bass had breakfast with Mizrahi, at least he didn't pry.

Yeah, maybe she should be more cuddly the morning after. "Nah," she thought as she skipped towards supply and just barely made it into the place as Auntie was telling Atlas off. Popping a bubble she was quick to move out of the way and slip behind the counter. Signing in and sliding it over to Auntie to sign off on. "Morning Sunshine," she teased as she popped a bubble. She gave a fake grin to Auntie before spinning around and darting to the other end of the counter to check what was on the duty logs for the day. Last thing she wanted was to be within striking range. The woman was old but she was strong, stronger than she looked.

Running her finger down the list she tilted her head to the side some. "New person?" she asked but not really to Auntie, it was on the list so it was there. More of musing to herself. So Amelia was joining in the Main Supply Building with her. That was fine with Nikki. She hadn't really gotten to talk to the girl yet but an extra set of hands around here was more than okay with her, the more the better. She did wonder where Hunter got stuck but it was probably a good thing they weren't working together. Nikki would have been purposefully dropping shit around him after his drinking last night."

Alexander Polawski

Another day waking up to the sound of a full-blown reveille, another day of Alexander waking up with a long sigh and heavy head with bushy hair. Except that he was not a soldier in basic training anymore, but an old man. He was fortunate to be who he was that day, both familiar with the damned trumpet blasting everyone awake and being old enough to wake up early anyway. Some younger man might not take the horn-music as lightly. Didn't stop him from saying something less than child-friendly as he awake. Some things never changed, did they? Well his leg and walk had changed, but for that he didn't curse anymore.

The rest of the morning was far more enjoyable, if not exciting. Alexander read from the piece of paper pushed under his door, looking forward to the coming events of the day - Breakfast, work, the visit to the cemetary and free-time activeties. Only one thing on the paper made him swallow hard, thankful he had the room alone. Therapy. Alexander would spend most of the morning tearing himself apart over it. Should he attend or not? He knew people would want him to "get some help", he wasn't stupid. They were probably right, but something dark in the back of his mind told him he could deal with it himself.

Alexander fought that proverbial skirmish all the way till he said goodbye to whoever he had eaten breakfast with, mostly likely Manny, and made his way over to his first assignment in Camp Mexico Beach. The walk over to Administration nice, made him grow accustomed to his fancy leg. It welcomed a new start for Alexander, even with the darkness skulking in the back of his mind. Passing several people milling about, Alexander nodded and smiled back to those friendly enough in the morning rush. Inside he couldn't help but overhear the older woman overload Gunny with requests and information. It was just like the old army days, wasn't it?

The old veteran stood silently at the side of the long desk, waiting for Gunny to be done with the old woman before he would make his presence overtly known. In the end though he would probably have to say something, something simple. "Gunny, sir? Alexander Polawski, I am to report to you for my assignment."

Whatever that infernal noise that could only have been produced by the very hounds of Hades themselves actually was, Nigel was in no state to answer as he was awoken by the reveille. Unlike the old veteran who had listened to the same morning call in his younger years, Nigel hadn't had the pleasure of getting used to it. Nigel struggled to open his eyes as he covered his ears, wondering why they were tormenting him like this. Then it hit him - He had chosen to stay in an Army camp, run by the military as a semi-military society. As he got out of bed and get dressed for the new day in Camp Mexico Beach, he questioned himself why he hadn't anticepated the horns. The damned horns.

With no answer in sight, the neo-Roman had turned to the slip of paper slid under his door. Simple and reasonable enough. He was to report to someone called Sparrow at the gardens for his assignment, neither of which rang any bells in his head. Who was Sparrow again, and why the gardens? The names had been plenty the last week and he hadn't spent much time doing gardening since he lived at his parents' farm back home in Washington. He didn't mind though, he was sure to do his best at getting his fingers green and dirty. In regards to this Sparrow, he would have to wait and see.

Nigel "Hadrian" didn't say much during breakfast, but not because the food itself was any bad. After last night's escapades with social blunders being made - mostly Hunter to be honest- Nigel was starting to feel the sense of isolation that Erica's absence was causing him. He even contemplated if he should sit and eat with Hank and Wayne, but he decided to get some well-deserved space from the two grumps. The activeties he found listed on the bulletin board were in that case tempting, at least some of them. Perhaps quilting or some games, or just a good book? Oh yes, getting back to knowing and trusting people wasn't easy. It was made easier when he had been applied with the Sportacus label.

With breakfast consumed and free-time activeties pondered on, Nigel made his way to the Hydroponic Gardens as instructed by the piece of paper. It was the smell that hit him first, early as bad as the big stink little Jamie had made back in Quarantine. The gardens and greenhouse was a more impressive sight to behold, even if it was certainly Spartan. Standing over by the shed and looking over a clipboard, Nigel recognised the woman who must have been codenamed "Sparrow" - Thana. The badly-scarred woman, closely connected with Ash the army man. While he didn't know much about her, anything really, he had to have respect for someone with those scars and still living. "Good morning, Sparrow I presume?" Nigel asked Thana, stepping up to her and giving her a polite nod. Okay, time to attempt a good first-impression. "Not the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but still looks solid. Nigel Cooper, I'm to report to you for the week. Hope I can be of any use to you and everyone."

Amelia Payne

Her morning started almost great. The way to wake up made her snap out of her sleep rather strongly as she panicked for a brief moment, before she got calmed down by the fact that nothing was happening and Riley was with her. After all, no matter what it was, as long as her love was with her and alright, it was fine. Following that she went over her own morning routine, preparing for the first day at work...' Thinking about it now, it seems so weird after all this time.' She had thought, heading for breakfast now.

Riley was also at Supply though apparently she reported to the pastor man. Amelia was going to be reporting to Auntie. After having the breakfast without rushing, but keeping a look on the time she headed over to Supply to report. While moving there, she thought about the suggested therapy. Honestly she to a degree refused to admit she had a problem, but... it didn't hurt to have a talk with someone. It was going to be an effort to adapt to this life after living on the road for so long.

Entering Supply, she was rather surprised by the way it was arranged. Made her think of a Good Will. Though admittedly maybe it was better organized. In any case, it was pleasant surprise to her. Order was nice to have, order had a logic and rules to it. She walked over to Auntie to politely greet her.” Good morning.” She said in as much as normal voice she could.” I was told to report here. My name's Amelia.” She introduced herself for both manners and because she wasn't sure if she had actually done so with this woman last night.” I'm not sure what are the procedures here however... do I have to sign something or... ?”

She also spotted Nikki here too. So she was working with that girl. She smiled, they had talked a little bit yesterday and they had seen each other in quarantine if nothing else.” Good morning, Nikki.” Amelia greeted Nikki as well. At least it wasn't all completely unknown faces here with her.

All in while, Lisa woke up from her slumber come morning like always before. Not the most pleasant waking up, not the worst however. She had just a bit of after effects from the alcohol, not too much luckily, but she didn't waste herself either last night anyhow. She was alone in the bed as she had went to it. Going through the morning routine didn't take long as she was again dressing up by the end of it. Being alone at night had it's advantages, she slept longer.

Going to breakfast, eating somewhat quietly, spotting people, but not really interacting much. She ate fast and headed over to Medical in a hurry. While breakfast was indeed important, so was working at Medical. There was always something to do and well she usually ended up learning something every time no matter how minor it would be. Getting through procedures as usually she headed for where one could usually find S.B. It was just a tad hectic and Medical was always going to be a bit hectic. Having many people at a certain location meant there would always be medical attention required for some reason or another after all. Humans were fragile things!

β€œMorning, what's going on? Where do you need me.” Lisa asked as she finally located the woman. Today their new additions would be starting their road into becoming part of the place. She wondered if someone would end up here form the new people. Didn't pay that much attention on that so far.

Ash Holloway
Location: Mechanics (K)
Skills: N/A
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

It wouldn't be the first time that he'd have gone to psychological therapy, such things were required in the Army at certain stages or after traumas had occurred; done to assure the brass that he was still fit to command as well as helping him adjust to realities of stress and combat. Not a big deal. And this wasn't even a requirement for him; it was merely a suggestion. Mild introspection had Ash understanding that it wouldn't hurt anything. It might even help him out a little to unpack some of his experiences and how he felt about them, not to mention what he had been doing to cope. It did open a lot of thought provoking questions, many of which weren't an issue back when he had his last psych exam. Memories, especially recent ones, were abound.

The first thing that came to Ash's recollections, as he headed to his predetermined job site from the hospital, was the fact that he hadn't been desensitized to reveille as of yet. Damn near to a Pavlovian response every time that called him to action. Granted, his earlier thoughts and memories of the morning centered around the woman he had spent the night with, and woken up next to. But honestly, she occupied much of his thoughts anyway. Also swirling around in there was his upcoming job with Mechanics, under someone named "Rivets" that he was reasonably sure he hadn't met yet, the fish and grits they had for breakfast that reminded him of he staple foodstuffs they established in Newnan, and that he needed to get into a more stable exercise routine when his schedule evened out. Every so often, Ash was reminded that he wasn't 23 and invincible anymore. And yes, he was still thinking about Thana. These might not be the sort of things that his interviewing psychologist would want to talk about. But he'd have to find out, Mondays and Thursdays at 1800 hours.

As he neared the building, Ash's thoughts solidified into something more professional. He wasn't technically a soldier anymore, and he sure as hell wasn't the man in charge, either. That didn't mean that he held himself to any less of a standard of punctuality, ethic, or respect. Every job was important. Every job, be it in a small way or a big one, contributed to all of their continued survival. And whatever needed to be done, Ash intended to handle as much of it as possible before 1400 hours, so that his superiors would have no cause for qualms or negative commentary about his absence to pay respects to his people, recovered by the CMB field team.

Checking the paper once more, Ash straightened to his full height and entered Mechanics. The feel of the air in there reminded him very much of the places he learned how to sling a wrench as a kid, or an off-base Army motor pool. It was comforting, in a way. As Ash entered the work area, he saw Mizrahi and two people he didn't recognize. Not wanting to make any assumptions as to who the shop foreman was, he spoke in a clear, concise manner while referencing his leaf of yellow paper, "Ashton Holloway. Reporting to 'Rivets' for assignment."

Thalia Carmichael

Another look at the paper in her hands - check that - hand had her working in the Administration. She was dutifully on her way out to the Admin building, just like her impersonal slip of paper told her to. In some ways, being in Camp Mexico Beach was like being in one of the MSS secure sites, except that she could always flash a corporate ID and waltz right in, if they didn't just let her past because they knew who she was. Living as she had for a while now, Thalia could tell that she had a sense of entitlement about a lot of things back then. Some of it was deserved but much of it was not, or merely by circumstances of her birth. Hindsight let her know that it was all pretty stupid. If nothing else, the apocalypse had given her a greater sense of humility. If nothing else, it taught her about her own actual merit, rather than that of her Familia. Some lessons were harder than others.

Something that caught her attention was the job listing of "Runner" on her way out of the Mess Hall. If that was what she thought it was, then she definitely wanted to sign up. When did they get out of probationary status again? She wanted to talk to Maddoc anyway, about getting into some more serious training. Two birds, one stone. At least she could mention that she was interested. It never hurt to put the idea out there. If she did well in other areas, that might put her in a favorable position later. But to the more immediate, where the ass was her brother? She might or might not have a bone to pick with the guy, and she didn't manage to catch him around their quarters. Coming nearer to Administration, Thalia began to realize that she might be heaping too much on her plate at one time. She literally had a day job now. Here she was trying to take on a ton of activities just to get back to her fighting best and maybe have a little fun now and again.

"Ballet, soldiering with Maddog, day job, jogging with Captain America (pending), sparring with Hadrian, exercise routines, Runner, oh god, that D&D circle, ...group fucking therapy..." she found herself muttering aloud to herself. Yes, she had decided that it would be wise to attend group therapy. Maybe it didn't hit her fully yet, but she lost part of a limb and her effectiveness in just about everything she was good at before had taken a massive hit. Maybe she didn't need to be on medication, but eventually something might compromise her emotionally. Wait, had she forgotten something? Oh yeah, "The Great Fuck Hunt," she said flatly. A random citizen of CMB overheard her and gave her a look, prompting Thalia to stop and return said gaze with a sarcastically questioning gaze, as if asking the guy if he felt like adding something of his own. A disengaging series of facial expressions later, they both agreed to leave each other alone. Thalia entered the building, now curious as to where the other Great Fuck Huntresses in her informal Guild might be working. Perhaps she'd run into one of them later on.

A little surprise took Thalia as she noticed that Alexander had beaten her there, already with Gunny. "Awful spry for a pirate," she said, though not at a level anyone might have picked it up. It was a habit of hers. Sometimes her internal thoughts became external. Walking up to the two of them, she gave a little smile to Alexander and followed it up with a quick, "You and me today, Mugs." The two of them didn't start off as friends, really. The old bastard somehow outlasted her offputting manner long enough to get past that, though. She had to give credit where it was due. Now they had a bit in common, aside from all that killing the first day they met. But Thalia forgot herself for a moment. She focused her attention to Gunny and asked directly, "Where you want me first, Boss?"

Emanuel "Manny" Newman

Location: Medical (B)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Morning was a nice so far. The old dentist wasn't too alarmed by the morning speakers that woke everyone up, though it did confuse him for the longest time as he tried to register what the hell they could be. His best guess, the morning alarm. Or maybe the place was flooding. Or being attacked... He had minimal idea but the morning alarm seemed most likely in his mind. Getting up, grabbing some clothes for the day and making himself look presentable, he found a piece of paper on the floor by his door. "Now what do we have here?" Looking at the yellow paper, it seemed to be a schedule for today's events. Manny was relieved to be working in medical at the very least. Though he was trying to keep his thoughts about the whole thing as positive as possible. He very much didn't like the idea of starting his medical career from the button again.

Seeing the rest of the schedule was... harder. A trip to the cemetery was scheduled later. He was on the list of people that were allowed to go, but it felt wrong to him. He didn't know... any of them. Not personally at least. Lola was apart of team Eden, but died before the group caught up to Manny. Then there was Gavin... When given the choice to save Gavin, or Thana, he chose Thana. Under the rushed assumption that because Gavin was standing longer, he had longer to live. Looking back on it, he should have registered that as shock, and an effect of rapid loss of blood. But he wasn't sure thinking back if he could have saved Thana if he had started on Gavin first. But seeing as she at least was mobile afterwards, maybe he should have started on Gavin. They both could have lived, and maybe they could have made a difference? He wasn't sure.

Not sure if he should go later or not, he went off to breakfast to think about it. The food was good. Better then anything he could cook up. Manny did take note of the bulletin board on the way in. He wouldn't mind picking up extra hours, though wondered how much longer in his life he would be able to do extra work. He would just stick with his basic tasks today, but would keep note of whats there so he could work off his dept, and still try to retire before too long. He remembered in his original plan he wanted to have retirement ready by 70. Guess that didn't work, his plan to keep his business as a passive income, hire another doctor to take his role while he does weekend work maybe. He stopped himself. He had been dwelling all morning and it wasn't good for him. Though he was able to hold a positive face all morning, say hello to anyone who passed him, and enjoyed the peace and quiet with Alexander briefly before leaving for work.

Manny made his way to medical where he was supposed to report to S.B. Though if he remembered correctly that was a name that she wasn't a fan of. He wasn't sure what other name she went by though... "Damn..." He shrugged it off, he would get a chance to figure out soon enough. The place reminded him of an older hospital, though scaled down a bit. Made sense, but it was a nice sight to see. Manny had spent his fair share of time in hospitals while in school, and had helped out in situations there. Though he found teeth more pleasant then livers. He found the woman he remembered as S.B. talking about, some of the days tasks he guessed. Waiting for a moment to talk, so he wouldn't interrupt anyone, he spoke."Hello, I'm Emanuel, most people call me Manny though." He almost held his hand out to shake, but considering this was a hospital and he wasn't in proper attire yet, he figured that was a bad idea. So stopped himself. "I assume you are who I am supposed to report too?" He asked towards S.B.

Surprisingly, Hunter was fine following rules. Though he did find some rules harder to follow then others. When he first woke up in the morning, it was rather terrifying for the former soldier boy. When the morning trumpets went off, he woke up in a panic, and reached for where he would usually keep his shotgun tucked by his side, but as expected it wasn't present. So he grabbed the first throwable thing he could find, his pillow, and threw it hard to the noise with no avail. Not realizing that his whole commotion woke up Izibell as well, knocking her to the floor. She got up and recovered faster then he did, but he felt bad about it none the less and started rubbing her head then back. "Sorry girl... little spooked." She gave an expression back as if to say "Yeah! Me Too!!!" He got up, got his clothes on, and took her out to take a dump. Then cleaned it up with his used bags of shit. And took her back. Her life would be much more constricted now that they were here. Supposed to be a better quality of life... but he couldn't imagine how she would handle it in the long run.

Moving around had shown Hunter a few things. He was given a note with today's tasks. Those tasks he would have to learn, and be good at if he wished to stay. Which he had mixed feelings about all the time. It didn't help that out of what he did remember from the night before, there was a sudden urge to bring his fist through someone's face. Though he couldn't remember who. But since he wasn't shot, or locked up. He guessed he didn't go through with it. He did find it odd though, as other then using one old loud mouth as a shield he didn't really have violent thoughts to those here. But he did have a few towards said loud mouth while they were all stuck together. What the note also said was when he had to go talk to one of the doctors here about his mental problems. He had heard it all before though, how the school would say he had a problem and needed special help, how soldiers in his unit would call him slow or stupid from his hesitation and limited ability to learn. Fuck all those people. He was alive while they were all dead. He made sure for most of them at least. He took note that it was 3 days a week, and wondered if that would only cost him more here, throwing him more in debt. If that was the case, he decided that this system needed a better way to integrate people then just throw them all in debt, and keep adding more to them. Plus, they started pretty late in the day. He didn't mind that part, but with getting up as early as they did, he was liking the day less and less.

He had clearly drank too much last night. He had a headache like if he had just tried to fight off a hammer with his forehead, and somehow won. He heard of tricks to deal with it in the past and so he figured why not try and fix this? His solution, a raw egg, and some orange juice. He heard someone say that worked once, but as it wasn't apart of the main meal, that request was denied. He didn't complain though. That wouldn't get him anywhere. So he shrugged it off, and dealt with it. He had endured far worse pain in much less ideal situations. Though he was annoyed about not being able to get the raw egg as a replacement for breakfast, he understood why. Good of the group and all that.

While there he saw a posting for Runner and other odd jobs. Sure he would probably go through and figure out whatever job they gave him today, but Runner sounded nice. As long as it was what he thought. Outside of the walls maybe, a shotgun or rifle in hand, enjoying the freedom of the world, even if he had a destination and a deadline to meet. Talk to Maddoc for information. He made a mental note of that. Maddoc was... Something odd to Hunter. Sure, he was the reason for why Hunter was slow to trust these people, but ironically enough, he was the reason for why he was staying. For more then one reason. Surely Maddoc could see that strait up integration with his people wasn't as clear cut a plan for someone like him? Hopefully without getting shot... But that something limited like this could be a decent start.

He put a pin in that idea. He would see how today went, then talk to Maddoc later. Plus, he figured Maddoc might help give him a clear idea of what happened last night with as little bias as possible. All he could really tell was that his uniform was covered in sand, and some kind of grain. It confused Hunter. He made his way over towards where his work station would be. Mechanics. He found that kind of funny, he wasn't sure if he told anyone here that his family used to live on a scrap yard. Though that felt like a lifetime ago. So he wasn't sure how much he would remember anyways. The people that were stationed here with him were definitely interesting. There was the guy that the one really scared up girl came in with. Who's name slipped Hunter again as the night came back to him in pieces, there was a woman here who he hadn't met yet, and The Captain. He walked over by ash, giving him nothing more then a nod, and a single word. "Private." He said with his nod and a grin on his face. Sure, he was a higher rank before, but like everyone else who had come in, he was at the bottom of the food chain like him. So why not poke some fun? Plus, who knows. Maybe he had a sense of humor.

The Captain at the very least either knew more then he did by a lot, or knew just as little. But as far as Hunter could tell, he was addressing the room more then anyone in particular. Or maybe it was a person, and Hunter was missing something. "What he said." Casually pointing to Ash. Then stopping to think about it. "Except, I am Hunter." Seemed about as professional of an intro he could give himself. He wasn't really for army formalities anymore, and he had no idea who to address, so this would have to work.

Date: July 23rd, 2012
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Breakfast has completed and the day has fully begun in Camp Mexico Beach. Most people have reported to duty, there are a few you can see out in the streets running as if hell was chasing them down; they don't look afraid so much as just White Rabbit Oh Fuck I'm Late! That is the ones that are outside - most won't see this as you are inside. In the top corner of rooms or outside of main buildings you will see little speakers set up and as the time strikes 0800 hours there is a crackle through them. Most turn their heads in the direction of it, some don't, but everyone stops talking as it sounds.

"Ahh, well yes. Good Morning everyone." The voice of the General is being pumped through the speakers. "I hope you are all feeling quite well on this lovely day. We had a wonderful party last night welcoming our newest members and save one or two incidents it was carried out splendidly. Those of you that didn't get a chance to meet the new folks, do say hello if you see them out and about today. Oh what, oh yes, yes." Seems he is talking to someone else while delivering the morning message. "Before I forget, Beth informs me that the weather will be bloody hot today, 87 degrees will be the high. So make sure to stay hydrated and cool down as you can. Due to high temperatures security rotations are being lowered from four hours to two with building hand offs. See Roy for assignments." There is another pause, some talking but it can't be made out. "Yes, or really? They're back? Tuna? Lovely. We will be having tuna - casserole and sushi. Now that is a treat. Well, that is all, have a good day everyone."

The speaker crackled for a few more sections before it went quiet once again. As it did, people who had stopped went back to their duties, people were hadn't stopped were still doing their work. The biggest difference was the fact that people started talking about. It was like someone had hit pause on the entire town and then unpaused it now that it was good to keep going again. Nothing bit seemed to be part of the morning announcement but hey, it was probably a good way to go about things: everyone pausing. Meant if something big did come through no one was going to miss it.

Administration (A): Gunny looked up from the paper work as Alexander came over and spoke up. He looked as if he was about to say something when the woman that was handing over the paper work to Gunny extended her hand palm down towards Alexander. "Why hello there. My name is Sandra and is a pleasure to finally be able to meet some of you new folks. Not everyday that Macsen here hand picks folks to bring into Adminstration," she said in a thick southern accent as he batted her eyes.

"Rolodex... heel..." Maddog said with a bark as he rushed by with a laugh and moved out the door of Administration before she could hit him, which is exactly what it looked like she was going to do.

Gunny just stood there for a moment before looking at Alexander and then Thalia. He looked as if he was about to speak when the announcement came on. Everyone stopped what they were doing and listened in. Sandra's brow shot up at the mention of tuna and as the announcement ended she huffed. "And where is the paper work on that?" she asked.

"Docks, being filled out," Gunny said before motioning towards Alexander and Thalia. "This way, you two will be working in the basement today," he said as he headed down the hallway and pushed open a door that lead down. "Watch your step and head," he added as he kept walking down, ducking slightly under a pipe that crossed the stairwell. Pulling out a set of keys as he reached the bottom he kept walking, past several doors that lined a narrow hallway. They were marked: Records, Requisition, Holding Cells, Interrogation, Supply. Stopping before the supply door he unlocked it. "Your supplies," he said before moving down an unlocking another door, "for here."

Inside was a large nearly unfinished section of the basement where it looked like plenty had been dumped off and left, like people didn't know what to do with it so this was as good a place as any. It was musty and dusty. Boxes lined on top of tables, tables not setup, chairs stacked and collecting spiders webs. The light was over head from basic bulbs that swung slightly and gave off a old school hum if one was quiet enough to listen. "Clean mostly. Divide what is here by: Plastic/paper/electronic/cloth/trash/other/and Don't Know. Line bins in the hallway for now." Slipping the keys back on to his belt loops he looked back to them. "You both are cleared for Funeral Detail today, you may leave half hour prior to clean up. Head to lunch at your assigned time, not before. Any questions?" he asked but not really expecting one, this was rather cut and dry.

Medical (B): Mary looked over towards Lisa. "We got some changes and prissy pants ain't happy," S.B. said with a slight smirk before taking a sip of her coffee. Roy chuckled a bit as he stood there, taking a step forward as a man in a baseball hat came running in and nearly collided with Lisa and S.B. Roy caught the guy right before he plowed into them.

"Shit sorry! Late!" he said as Roy spun him around to slow his momentum. "Sorry!" he said as he kept walking now that Roy let him go. He wasn't running anymore but still moving fast. Roy shook his head a bit and stepped back into place against the wall.

"Actually," Mary started, looking at Manny before the crackle of the speakers was heard and the hospital lobby went quiet. Everyone stood there, waiting for it to be over, as soon as it was Mary continued. "Your hers now," Mary said before turning back to Lisa. "You're fully out of supply now. Gunny approved the change and General signed off last night. You're a damned journeyman's chemist now working full time in Medical. I'll be teaching you more and you will be attending two new classes in Education. See the Professor after shift today to set up times." Mary handed over some paper work for Lisa. It would be a schedule for new duties and list of things to do and more so not to do when working in the pharmacy. Lisa would already knows these having cleaned the place for so long but everything in triplicate.

"As far as he goes. He's taking your old place. Show him the ropes, what to clean how to clean it, when to clean it. And mostly what not to touch," she added before looking at Manny. "Know you're a doctor outside but in here, you're a janitor. You can leave 15 minutes before Funeral Time if you're going. Lisa, get him up to speed today, check in before lunch," she said before walking off.

Roy watched her walk off before looking at Manny. "We all we're janitors," he said in passing before looking back towards the door.

Mechanics (K): Rosie looked over towards Ash as he came in and introduced himself. "That's me honey," she said before looking back at Volts. "If you see Dog before I do, tell him I need that schedule," she said to the man.

Volts nodded a bit, his brow shooting up at Hunter came in and spoke. "Wait, which two are these again?" he said after Hunter introduced himself. Rosie shrugged.

"Sparrows and Checkbook 2.0," Mizrahi said as he finished wiping his hands off and shoved the dirty rag half hanging out his back pocket.

"Oh right, kid if I were you I wouldn't be calling anyone Private unless you're a higher ranking officer and well, you wouldn't even make minimum weight requirements," Volts said before giving a wave to Rosie. "See ya after lunch Rivets," he said before taking the part and heading back to Fabrication.

Rosie nodded and stopped as the announcement started. She listened as she crossed her arms over her chest. Mizrahi sat down on a stool and waited for it to be over as he picked up a clipboard. As the announcement ended, he handed the clipboard over to Rosie. "Right, okay you two are the new comers. Do what you're told, when you're told, no attitude or back talking or I'll ship you somewhere worse. Like the sewers," she stated flatly. "I got shit to do, you do what Mizrahi tells you to today. Holloway you are clear to leave 45 minutes before Funeral Detail to shower and clean up, you'll need it," she said before walking out of Mechanics through one of the raised garage doors and lighting up a cigarette. Taking a long puff she yelled back into the garage of Mechanics. "Hey, Monroe! You're to report to Gunny at 1400 hours!"

"Here," Mizrahi said as he got off his stool and headed over to a door. Opening it, it was a bathroom that had seen far better days. Cleaning supplies were in there, but didn't look like they were used. "Ladies room.... clean," he said. Though he didn't say much he seemed to give a sympathetic look towards both the guys. "Done, find me," he added before going back to the truck he was working on and laying down on the roller, sliding back under it he went back to work.

Supply (R): Auntie looked over at Nikki and nodded. "Yeah, we needed a spare set of hands with the supply influx the last few days," Auntie said before looking over as Amelia spoke. "Yes, sign in there," she said pointing to the clipboard that Nikki had. "Sign in when you arrive, sign out when you leave." It looked like she was about to say more but the announcement started so she stopped talking.

As the announcement went on, Auntie picked the clipboard out of Nikki's hands and slid it across the counter towards Amelia. It had a pencil tied to it. As the announcement ended, she continued as if she had only blinked. "Have a message you might attend the funeral thing, you can leave five minutes before, will give you plenty of time to get to the assembly location," she said as she pulled her flower and straw hat off.

"Nikki, we got a lot of new stuff in from Sparrow and Frankens return, half of it isn't cataloged yet, the rest isn't cleaned up yet. You two get on that. Show the girl where to go, where not to, and how to take care of things in here." Fluffing her short hair a bit she scowled. "We're the hub of the town. Fuck medical, fuck food, fuck everyone else. We don't keep our shit in order, no one gets what they need and everything stops. So don't fuck up and make sure all my numbers line up," she said before taking an arm full of clothing and heading off to the back.

Hydroponic Gardens (T): The gardens were really something to see. Well they were something to smell that was for sure. And to see, well outside with the starter plants and such it looked to be your typical garden set up for a larger scale greenhouse. Thing was, it wasn't. Now the place is locked up currently and all the fogged plastic is down so people cannot see inside it. When the doors are opened though, it is rather a neat set up.

Plants are not grown in planters or on the ground. They are either suspended from rods in the ceiling and grown upside down, their roots in pipes above, or they are grown in a series of large pvc pipes that have been cut into and used as planters. It is staggered and grown vertically to have levels and levels of produce growing in a small space.

The greenhouse is much hotter than how it is outside and it looks to have water piped in and a mist is constantly being sprayed from above to water the top level, clear tubes feed into others lower to keep them watered. Clipboards are hung up and each vegetable or fruit is labeled where it is, when it was rotated last, harvested from last, and so forth.

Pulling the clipboard down, Thana flipped from one page to the next, sighing to herself as she read before lifting her head and looking over towards Nigel as she heard him speak. "That's me, call me Thana is ya prefer," she said as she held out her hand to shake his. As the speaker crackled she stopped and pointed towards it. "Mornin' announcements," she informed Nigel before placing her finger to her lips. It was quiet time. She remembered the first time she heard the crackle, it actually unnerved her a bit. Last time she had heard something like it was when the emergency broadcast system was still working. It left a bad memory in her mind. Took her a few times hearing the speakers crackle to get used to it and even now though she doubt she ever fully would.Once you had such a bad association with something it was hard to move past it.

Listening Thana took in what was said. Incident? She didn't hear about any incident. Then again why would she? She wasn't a high ranking officer in charge around here, well not where most things were concerned. She wasn't even in charge of the gardens, she just worked Mess which was in control of the gardens. They put her here because of her degree but that was after weeks in supply and only because it was one of the few jobs that was open. If she hadn't had her degree in botany she would still be in supply cleaning out toilets. She was glad she was out of there, especially after hearing what the temperature was going to be today. She was used to the smell of compost, it was different even if it was close to a sewer at times.

Once the announcements ended she hung up the clipboard and motioned with her finger for Nigel to follow her. "Actually, I think we're pretty close to it," she said as she pulled out her keys that were hooked on her belt. Unlocking the door she pushed it open slowly. She was still walking with a limp but she didn't let the twinge bother her so much. It was better than it had been. Pushing the door open she motioned inside and smiled. "Think it's a hell of a hanging garden," she said motioning around.

"Think you'll do fine here. Mostly it'll just be grunt work helpin' me move things from point A to point B until I get a full clear from Doc," she said as she lifted the leg of her shorts to show the two holes that were still stitched up. They lay on either side of a rather ugly and jagged scar. "First things first, we gotta get the blinds raised for morning sun," she said walking to one of the plastic drapes. "Grab here, pull here, secure there, then just repeat. I'll take the west side, you take the east," she said. It would take a bit that was for sure considering how long the green house was. It was like dropping the sails on a ship and making sure they were secure.

Thana got to work. She wasn't going to be able to move faster than Nigel but considering this was where she worked she knew how to get through the rows faster, and the procedure better. Once she was healed she could probably do it in no time flat alone but that wasn't now. "So, your file says you know Roman History and building," Thana started coming around a corner. "How's yer knowledge on aqueducts? she asked as she started to raise another one.

Blowing a bubble with her gum, Nikki looked over towards Auntie. "Yeah, been a clusterfuck since they got back," Nikki said about needing an extra set of hands. It had been a lot to deal with. It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't had an influx of a lot of new people at the same time but with everything that had happened it had made keeping up with Supply a bit more taxing. At least Auntie hadn't made her work more hours to catch up. And now they had a new person. Speaking of which, she had just come in. "Hey girl, morning," Nikki said before blowing another bubble with her gum and bouncing on the balls of her feet a bit.

Looking towards the speaker as the static crept in, she rolled her eyes a bit and stood there waiting to hear what the weather report was going to be today. Nikki gasped slightly at the clipboard was yanked from her hand. "Hey!" Nikki snapped quietly as the announcement started fully.

Incident? Was the General talking about Hunter yelling curse words and falling face first into the sand? Nikki figured that was probably the case. She half wondered what happened to the guy last night but she wasn't going to sweat it. She had tried talking and he kept being something she wasn't finding fun to be around. Why she sought fun elsewhere and in truth the evening had been fun. She was glad she got out of her bedroom this morning before Bass started trying to be clingy. She wanted a fuck, not a relationship.

As the announcement ended she could only nod to what all Auntie was saying. She waited for Auntie to walk off before sticking her tongue out at where the old lady had been before looking over at Amelia. "Don't mind her, don't think she's gotten laid since Prohibition," Nikki said with a smirk before hoping up onto the counter and sliding over to the other side. "Basically we just clean shit off, mark it down in the logs and then put it away in the right place. Ain't hard," she added as she bounced about.

"First things first, we gotta get requests from the other areas," she said as she headed towards the door. "Come on, we get to take the golf cart for this. You wanna drive?" she asked as she plucked a set of keys out of her pocket.

Amelia nodded as she listened to the older woman explain and answer her questions. So they had to sign in their shifts, well it wasn't a bad practice. She supposed it also helped to see who was ditching and running off. She had no such intentions really. As the announcement was given, she studied the clipboard for a moment before picking up the pencil and signing into it.' Well... this is it. My first day at work officially after...' She didn't finish that train of thought, choosing to put it away instead as she turned her attention to the people with her instead.” Thank you. It means a lot.” Amelia didn't forget to say thanks to Auntie as the woman spoke about the visit to the graves. She didn't get along with everyone back at Newnan, but some of those that were no longer with them, she considered very close friends.

Her back straightened up a little as Auntie honestly started sound damn authoritive for a moment there.” I will do my best.” Amelia promised to the older woman as she moved away from them. She followed her for a bit before turning towards Nikki who turned out to be the one in charge of showing her around. She couldn't help, but let out a barely held chuckle at the prohibition mention. She took a breath to stop chuckling and nodded with a smile. ” So... we with all these things out. Got it, cleaning it is. By the way, do they bring in new inventory often? ” She asked with a bit of curiosity. She wondered since it's been so much time since the zombies appeared, probably the entire town outside the walls was looted clean. So she was quite curious if they put forth looting trips to other locations.

β€œRight behind you.” Amelia smiled as she followed after Nikki who was frankly a ball of energy by the looks of it. She felt energized just by being around her, because of the way the other girl was constantly moving about.” Eh... I'd better not.” She finally said as she was offered to drive.” I've not driven anything... at all... ever. I'd better not attempt to learn right now when there's work to be done. Maybe another time after I've done some learning first.”

β€žOh?” Lisa made a questioning sound as she heard S.B. Start explaining and she had to admit she was intrigued. There was also a new face at the place as well. One of the guys from the Quarantine. Goodie more people were working out at Medical now. That was a generally good thing. Never could have enough medical personnel about even if they were currently tasked with simple chores. She also chuckled as she saw Roy play the guardsman and prevent a human collision. It was amusing, admittedly she'd have had more fun if they tumbled over.

Just as proper explanation as of who would be where today on the work tasks was to happen, the morning speech happened. She listened quietly enough, but her hand was in her pocket, playing with the metal cube until it was over with. Then shifted her attention as S.B. Resumed speaking, pulling her hand away from her pocket. She was surprised, yet happily so! A wide and happy grin spread across her face at the revelation that she was finally shifted out of Supply and to Medical proper!” Yes!” She exclaimed with happy voice.” Finally~! Thank you!” She added as she picked up her list of new tasks and to do and not to do things. She gave it a brief look over, but her attention was mainly on the woman still.

β€œAlright, going to be done. Will see him as soon as I'm off duty.” She smiled, learning was fun and it was a rather good way to spend your time in this type of world. Knowledge was power after all. You never knew when it might come in handy. As SB walked off, she turned to Manny.” Alright, not sure if you picked my name last night. It was a bit of a chaos at times.” She smiled at him.” Just in case, I'm Lisa. Come, let's get you settled in with the local ways of doing things.” Lisa smiled at the older man.” It probably wouldn't be anything too different from what you've seen in the past, but with the situation being what it is, we got to be extra careful. Let's first show you where to find 'the tools of the trade' as a janitor.”

It was with a surprised smile that Alexander turned to see none other than Thalia standing beside him. When he had been told to show up here, it hadn't occured to him that he would be working with anyone else from the new-comers, much less Thalia. He was not a man to complain on that, and was frankly glad to have her by his side. Unlikely friends from the start, but fate had her mysterious ways of bringing people together. Alexander had certainly been through that many a times before. "Looks like today's going to be a good day then, Angel."

Alexander accepted the sudden handshake from the older lady, taken back by the surpised friendlyness shown towards him by this Sandra. According to what the passing Maddog barked next her codename was Rolodex, which made Alexander smile and chuckle ever so slightly. "Pleased to meet you too, Sandra. We'll do our best, whatever it is you need doing." He managed to say before the speakers crackled to life, like something important was just about to be told to the troops - Orders to move out, pull back, rotate in new units or just yell at whoever put paint into the corporal's shampoo, they were all good guesses from Mugsy.

It was the General just telling them all good morning, thanking for the night before and listing of that day's announcements. It was surprisingly calm, even comforting for Alexander to hear it that way. Perhaps it still hadn't dawned on the veteran that life inside the walls of Camp Mexico Beach was different than outside, being normal and structured. Most likely. Alexander didn't say anything - didn't know what to say - as he followed Gunny through the door and down to the basement, taking in all that the told them.

Clean-up duty. Alexander had to be honest, this was not what he had expected when he first stepped into Administration that morning. But as Gunny asked if any of them had any questions, none really came to him. It was clear-cut work which made sense for the newbies to take on. Alexander nodded along to him, feeling his heart drop at the mention of the "funeral detail" later on, though still looked forward to it. One last goodbye. "None from me, Gunny. What'cha say, Thalia? Ready to get some good old housework done?" Alexander was actually somewhat looking forward to cleaning up the basement, ready to work with his hands again after the downtime in Quarantine.

So Nigel had not been far off on Thana's name, or what she had decided to call herself around people those days. Nigel "Hadrian" had done that after all, but more likely than not it was her real name. Nigel held out his hand and shook Thana's, hoping to give her a good impression of sturdy hands if nothing else. "Good to meet you, Thana. I head either Nigel or Hadrian, though most go by the first." Nigel replied to Thana's introduction, cut off by the crackling of a loudspeaker somewhere and Thana duly pointing it out for him. The level of civilisation still marvelled Nigel to that day, a week of exposition not having assimilated him entirely.

The neo-Roman had to sigh at the mention of an incident, all too aware of what the General was referring too, or rather who. It hadn't been a night of joy to take care of Hunter, and the memories of that night still feel ashamed on his behalf. The rest of the announcement was rather even-leveled, no reports on the Undead world on the other side of their walls. Was this how life was to be there on the inside? Nigel thought back to the answers he'd given during his interview, what he had thought normality was like: daily routines and a lack of fear. As Nigel listened to the broadcast, those words were echoed from every word uttered by the General.

They were pretty close? Nigel raised his brows in curiosity at Thana's choice of words, following her straight away to where she had opened a door and looking inside. She wasn't wrong - A series of pipes and rods holding various plants, giving them sustinance through an intrecate system that, for a moment, made Nigel speechless. Civilisation had truly survived in this little fortress, and this garden was a testament to that. "If we could add one more wonder to the Seven Wonders of the world, I'd pick this every time."

The work he was meant to be doing was hard but honest work it seemed. Thana's visible injuries sure convinced him of what she had just told him, that he'd do fine there. Nigel made a grimace briefly at the sight of those two holes, glad it hadn't been him who sustained them. "Sure, whatever you need then. Born and bred on a farm, so works for me." Nigel admitted as he made his way to the plastic drape Thana pointed at, slowly but surely pulling them up and securing them as instructed. He was certainly not as proficient at this as Thana was, and he would surely be just behind the corner when he was asked about his background. So she had read his file?

"Oh, I did not know my reputation preceded me? I mean I know a thing or two besides the common knowledges on the aquaducts, but I haven't built one myself." Nigel answered the best he could, finishing the eastern side of the drapes and moving around the corner to continue. Thana wasn't strictly wrong in her assesment, but it felt like it had come out of the blue. Then again, there he was working in the gardens. "My 'expertise', if I can call it that, lay more in siege weapons and warfare. You know, ballistas and catapults, walls, you know the type. But I guess I know enough to make an effort. Why, want to run freshwater into the camp?"

Manny was impressed by what this place had to offer, though he did struggle with the fact that he had well over 50 years of medical experience, and he was stuck on janitorial detail. He didn't let that displeasure show on his face. No point in it. All it would do not is create more problems then help, so he smiles, and listened as everyone talked. Plus, something would open up soon he figured. How many dentists could really be left in the world at this point? Plus, who knew. Maybe he would get called out as a temporary doctor for one of the close by communities. Either seemed like a decent option, working back int he medical field, while no longer having to worry about his patient coming back from the dead to rip his face off. Or having to carry all of his medical gear as well as a shotgun, plus anywhere from 15-80 shotgun shells. The weight added up fast, and a doctor with a shotgun was a confusing sight for everyone.

Before introductions could get too far, the loud speakers sprang to life. That was a comforting sound to Manny. He had spent the early days of his medical career in a hospital while he was still learning the trade, so reminders of his more pleasant days as a youth were nice. The talk of the heat was something Manny was also used to. He had spent most of his life south of here with regular heat waves similar to what was going on today. Though the cut back security concerned him. Then he stopped to think about the walls surrounding this place, and figured it was probably fine. If there were enough of the dead to make it so the walls outside might not be enough, then he wasn't sure what extra security patrols might be able to do. The talk about incidents last night reminded him of the drunken soldier boy. He wondered what kind of things he would have to go through to adjust to normal life. The boy seemed... just that. A boy. With how many years things had passed, he wondered if he was even in the army like he said he was. He seemed way too young. Maybe it was a mental security thing to convince himself of a better reality then what happened? He also wondered what it would be like to be a therapist and be able to guess and figure out this sort of thing.

Roy's comment helped ease some of Manny's concerns, he wasn't sure if Mary's commend had the effect she intended it to have or not, but he also didn't know her intent. Maybe it was to prevent the thoughts he was having now about how his skills could be better used. He wouldn't say anything about it now, there was no point. But he listened to everyone as they spoke, then thanked them all respectively as they all went about their days. So he followed Lisa for now.

She seemed nice, though he wondered how well she was in the medical field being so young. Or maybe that was just him being the old man he was, thinking that Kids Know Nothing These Days and decided to check that thought too. He deciding being biased towards the youth wasn't the best idea since if in danger, they were all faster then he was. "Well, it's nice to meet you Lisa." She was polite, he gave her props for that. "Do you mind if I ask how long you have been here? In the camp, and in medical?" He stopped himself. He had been reminded in the past he tends to get too pushy too fast with people. "If not I understand, people tell me I get too personal too fast. Still working on that." An old habit from his days as a self employed dentist. A great way to keep customers and patients was to get friendly, and create casual conversation. A habit that Manny still couldn't break. But on they want for Manny to start his new job. Janitorial duties.

Hunter nodded and looked focused like he understood everything that was happening around him. Truth be told, he was trying to hide the fact of how much his hangover was making it hard to think strait. Sure, he was used to pain so that wasn't an issue. But the constant throbbing was a pain in the ass to focus on anything for longer then a few seconds at a time. Not that he could do that without the hangover, but it made it harder to correct himself. He registered Checkbook and Sparrow. Nikki's call sign, and... The other one was familiar to Hunter, but he figured it was something he heard last night from where things were foggy as all hell. What he did register was his comment to Ash being shot down. He found that annoying as one, it was a joke, and two, an inside joke that they were not involved with. SO! He smiled, nodded, and pretended he understood everything that was happening. Though all he registered was that someone didn't think his funny as hell joke wasn't funny. And something about him being an officer? No thanks. Being an officer here sounded boring and bureaucratic as hell. Not Hunter's preferred life style.

A loud noise came over head, making Hunter's headache worse then it was before. Now? It was harder to deal with. Most of what was said didn't register again to Hunter. Something about an incident last night? He would have to ask about that later. They were given the usual tasks of not back talking or being an ass you get at every job you start. The threat being sewer duty if they didn't behave. He tries not to laugh, but it still came out as a grin, as if there was some inside joke that only he understood. Which in this case, there was. He had spent what he guessed was a week in a sewer once sick as a dog because he got trapped and had to explore to find a way out. Not scary, just annoying as all hell trying to crawl through 3 year old shit and goo while throwing up every time he had to try and eat something. And not being able to use a gun as he quickly learned, methane is a bitch. But he said nothing.

Some people left, and they were passed off to the guy who came in with the woman who was scarred to hell. Someone he felt like he should get to know at some point as she seemed to have an interesting story to tell. There was something about a funeral, but Hunter barely registered that, but seeing as he didn't know anyone that died recently he didn't have anything to do with that. Unless that had something to do with the incident last light. But if that was the case then the threat to be shot would probably have gone through. Now that he had been given a moment to clear his head after the announcements, he was able to focus more on... well staying focused. Just in time too, he registered something about Gun at 1400. Then he stopped to think about that with a clear look of confusion on his face. Why would anyone here trust him with a gun? Then he continued to think about it. Did they mean Gunny? That made more sense. But wait... He was apart of the security detail wasn't he? "M'kay." He said clearly still thinking about what was being said.

When the duo were brought to their task at be, Hunter registered a few things that he wanted to say, but held his tongue. Mostly. He let out a quiet laugh as he looked into the bathroom. This may have been him still recovering from the hangover but he had a lot of things that went through his head at the moment of seeing this. Mostly the fact that this hadn't been taken care of in a long time. Which implied to him that the common phrase about how there were no openings ever for any position was bullshit, as this place clearly needed a dedicated cleaning crew, or this task had been left just for people who couldn't say no. "Alright. Alright alright alright alright alright." He spoke barely leaving a space between each Alright. He walked inside to get started. The place was a mess which he was annoyed about, but like before, he didn't care too much about the smell.

"Alright... So you can do whatever you want to do. But my way has been proven effective in the past. Family of eight will do this in a week if left unattended." He had no proof his way was better, but it was a cleaning routine he was used to and it worked for him. "Walls first, stall walls next, toilets, mirrors, sinks, then floor with a nice sweep and mop. We do this right it wont take us too long." Sure he had no command here, but Hunter was going to do his way. If Ash wanted to go along with him great, if not more power too him. But the order he liked was nice, as most other orders risked messing up something that was already cleaned. "But I swear to god... if you do the floor before everything else is done, you are going to really make our time together suck. At the very least, don't do the sinks and the floor before the mirrors. The run off is messy as all hell sometimes. Here seems to be no exception." He was still hungover, but growing up, the bathroom was his job. And with 5 siblings, bathroom duty was horrid at best. Especially with siblings who would make it messy on purpose just to be jackasses. At least this? Something simple yet familiar. So off to cleaning he went.
