So we all have certain things that we do to get in character. Rather it be a playlist, watching a certain show for inspiration, we all have something. So what's the strangest thing that you've ever done for an RP? Please include weird search histories. I can't be the only one that's searched how to hide a body super extensively.

I don't know if it's strange, per se, but generally while I'm thinking of a combat scenario in a scene, I'll act it out with myself just so I can describe the movements a little better. Prob just more of a OCD thing anyway, lol.

I pull up random fortunes on discord and play it out in my head as if my character is reading them. Has helped me make discoveries about my characters quite a few times.

The two strangest things... hm...

1st would be when someone I was roleplying with had a bunch of guys get onto an elevator... then the next day realized it was probably not a bright idea. Guy panicked and froze up and I pretty much had to roleplay his guys fighting their way out of an elevator ambush.

In addition to that, I had to do it in a way that was in-character for the chuckle-heads that stepped into the elevator in the first place thinking it was a good idea. Thankfully, that's like... an action-movie trope anyone who grew up in the 1990's should know.

The second one was when I adopted a character and they started developing some mechanical-AI sentience where their actions from like 3 years prior that I'd forgotten about were pre-emptively countering stuff people were doing... and they were continuing to act on that.
-Bonus points for taking down two skynet-expies with that character.

I was like, oh... wow... they really got me stuck in a corner... I better check these note-- mother of god... those poor fools are screwed and I didn't even know it yet. (even as I was making posts that were making things worse, while totally oblivious... I mean... how the heck was I supposed to know you could weaponize flirting like that?!)

Seriously, all I had to do was login and the posts practically wrote themselves.

It's like pulling a Henderson, but you didn't make the bio, you're just the one hold-onto it for today and the creator didn't bother to warn you that the character was a self-aware Triple-Henderson meme that you now cannot be rid of (six years and counting TEN YEARS... fuck... she's able to manipulate time... RUN NOW AND SAVE YOURSELF).

This was a physical pen and paper D&D game I played once.

So as some of you may know there's a race of playable creature in dungeons and dragons called the Kenku who can only speak and interact through the mimicry of other beings. Normally this ends up playing out as your character being some kind of amusing dictaphone, but I decided to go somewhere different with it.

I was playing a Kenku monk with the acolyte background, so basically I decided this Kenku was raised in a religious monastery as a form of sentient photocopier (they have a natural forging ability too), so they could do the whole perfect copying thing, but in addition because of their religious background, they could also quote their holy book cover to cover from the consistent sermons they had growing up.

Que me writing out a 100+ entry list of bookmarks for the Buddhist Dhammapada so I could read out passages to convey the feelings and emotions of my character on command. I still have that list somewhere... stupidest character gimmick I ever did.

I used to play the Riddler a lot, so I'd have a bunch of Google and Wiki tabs open to look up obscure shit to use to make up riddles, references and double speak, often on the fly in instant messengers. I will say it's done wonders for my vocabulary and knowledge of misc. shit I wouldn't know otherwise.

I researched snake physiological to figure out how a person with the lower half of a snake would use the restroom.

It seemed important at the time! But now I regret it.

Played a vampire character and had him try to lick some blood, forgot if it was fresh or not, off of a floor right before going into battle with a bat beast thing so he wouldn't run the risk of going into a hunger induced frenzy from any blood that might have been spilt. Either from the beast, or his teammates.

Reading that you might not think it strange, but think about it, I had the man lick a floor for blood.

I don't know about strange - think we all have those really odd searches. I've learned more about world history and odd facts while researching for an RP than in school or watching jeopardy that's for sure. Think the most out there thing I have ever done for Rp is the fact I have updated Rp's from a hospital bed. >.> Wouldn't do it again but 15 years ago seemed perfectly normal to me, O.o
