A @TootsiePop & @Rosalia Collaboration
Featuring AJ Tyler & Valeria Drake

The walk to and in the RV was oddly silent. There was no chit-chat, no ‘hi I’m so glad to see you’, no anything. He could tell she was seething. It wasn’t that hard to tell. The heat was emitting right off her skin. After knowing someone for so long, and realizing they’re just naturally an angry person, picking up on small visual cues becomes almost second nature. If only this wasn’t the case. If only she could see the bright side of every situation. If only he could show her that no one was intentionally trying to make her feel like shit.

There was a part of AJ that had hoped his best friend gained the skill of getting over herself, but, of course, that was too much to ask for. Too much to wish into existence. While they both equally held grudges, since neither of them easily got over things, he at least was able to deal. Something she just couldn’t learn to do, or even attempt to learn. Stubborn as a mule, unyielding as a rock, and with love, like breaking waves. That was his Tink.

He couldn’t blame her for feeling some type of way. It was his fault for not necessarily preparing her. Even so, if he did that, she wouldn’t be here, right now, to give him hell. He’d consider this a win, however, the war only just begun. For one, AJ wasn’t going to let her jeopardize his road trip because she can’t play nice. He had to put up with Reyna, and now Katie, so why couldn’t she do the same? With Chloe and everyone else on her ew list.

Worst case, she could turn her attention to Leon’s abs. There was no doubt in AJ’s mind that Leon, that dopey jock motha’ fucker, would be shirtless for most of this trip. Secondly, without her, this trip wouldn’t be as phenomenal as it could be. AJ refused to take no for an answer. More importantly though, he knew she’d regret it if she said no. There was so much adventure waiting for them both. Why not do it together, with all their friends?

...And, uh, not friends.

When they entered the main room of his dad’s sanctuary, that wasn’t his mod shops, AJ went straight to the sink counter (midpoint of the RV), turned around, and leaned up against it. Taking off his sunglasses, he placed it on the counter, for safekeeping. Following Val with his eyes, he cleared his throat, “Soooooooo… what’s on your mind, Tink?” He decided to ease into the issue and play a little dumb.

Valeria raised her eyebrows at him. Had a few days apart made him stupid already, or did he honestly think she didn’t know he was just pussyfooting around the issue? "‘What's on my mind?’" the young woman repeated slowly, staring at AJ in disbelief. "‘What's on my mind’? Are you seriously fucking asking me that right now?! ‘What’s on my fucking mind’, AJ Tyler?! Gee, I don’t know! What the fuck do you think?!”

Damn. At first, her voice was at a reasonable level, like a normal goddamn mature conversation level, yet it didn’t take long for her to raise the octave, to turn red with anger, and to completely lose her shit. There was no chill at all in that tiny body of her’s. Unfazed by her yelling, he countered, while staying put in his laxed stance, Yeah. What’s on your mind?” He didn’t stutter, did he? He knew exactly what stick was up her ass, but this was her opportunity to let out some steam and say exactly what she needed to say. For once. “No: ‘hi, AJ! I’ve missed you!’ No hugs. No nothing. Obviously you need to talk, so talk.”

Val couldn’t help but scoff and roll her eyes. “You really expect me to be all sugar on you after the little stunt you just pulled?!” she asked in outrage, her small hands balling into tight fists now.

“Oh my fucking god. Can you say it?! Tell me what I did! The stunt!” He wanted to hear it from her lips before he argued his point. If she was going to have a titty attack because he was inviting their whole crew not just her favorites then he wanted her to admit it. Admit that she hates literally every girl ever!

“Chloe?! Ava?! Reyna?! Katie?!” Val cried out each name with fury and displeasure. How could AJ think for a single second that she’d be okay with this?! Chloe would be a reminder of how everything she wasn’t. Ava would try to fish around for details about her life that, frankly, she didn’t feel like sharing with judgemental strangers. Reyna was the vivid representation of how, even if you gave your 100%, the guy would always choose the pretty, preppy popular girl. And Katie… Katie was just someone she didn’t want to see or be around.

“Woah, woah, woah. I thought that was your doing! Inviting Katie in spite of me. Sounds like something you would do. And you know exactly why—” No longer leaning on the counter, AJ hovered over her as she stared up at him. With hellfire in her eyes. Before he could explain the most LOGICAL reason he invited the rest, which for some reason she chose to be dumb to, to ignore, to not even consider everyone else’s happiness but her own, the voices of Emilia and Josie could be heard outside the RV.

Inviting Katie as a way of getting back at AJ was definitely something Valeria would do... You know, if she had actually known that the other girls would be showing up. Which, you know, he had purposely omitted from her, like a backstabbing bitch. So- “Why the fuck would I invite Kati- !”

She suddenly stopped speaking as a familiar, overly cheerful voice that she absolutely despised slowly drifted in their direction from the outside. The short girl’s eyes widened and, if even possible, blazed with a bigger anger than before. “You invited Crybaby too?! Are you out of your fucking mind?!” Either this was some sick prank on his end, or he was working his hardest to make sure she was convicted of assault before they’d even left the parking lot. Emilia Seger? Really?

Holy fuck. She was being so, being so… Val. So irrational because she didn’t know how to just deal like him. Before speaking he put his hands together, placed them against his lips, inhaled, exhaled, before bringing his hands down and replying, “Let’s take a seat, please.” He could make this ten times worse, but he was trying to start things off on a good note. Was that so hard to ask for?!

Valeria vigorously shook her head. “I’m not taking a fucking seat,” she spat. “So spit it out.”

“Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I couldn’t tell you, and you know exactly why I couldn’t.” Because of this but instead of her yelling at him, she’d stay at home and hate him for choosing others over her and herself for not going.

“So what: you’d rather get my hopes up spewing out bullshit about some unforgettable road trip, lie to me about who you invited, and pretend that I’m just going to happily go along with it like some fucking Disney movie?!” she shouted back.

“No, and I didn’t lie! I withheld information. You could fucking try because this road trip isn’t about you and it isn’t about me. This is possibly the last time we will all hang like this for a long time. Some people wouldn’t even come if I didn’t invite everyone. And can’t you just, I don’t know, be here. With me. With Chris. With Nate. With shirtless Leon. With all of us, without focusing on the ones you hate for Christ’s sake. AJ wanted to throw in the towel, but he knew if Val didn’t first, he would cancel this trip entirely and that would be lame because everyone was already here. Rather than stand there and wait for her to reply, he sidestepped away and went to sit down, pressing on his temples when he did so.

“Because those people aren’t my friends!” the brunette cried out, stomping her foot on the ground and blinking back the rush of angry tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. “You, Sami, Chris, Nate, Leon, Ivy- you’re all my friends. But the rest of them?! Not a chance in hell!”

She took a deep breath, trying hard to keep her voice from shaking but failing to do so. “What’s the point of being stuck for weeks with people you’ve fucking hated for years now, hmm? Where’s the fun in that, exactly? Because, frankly, I don’t see it, and I’m not going to be part of something that doesn’t make me happy!” she declared, turning on her heel and storming down the stairs of the RV’s exit.

Impulsive reaction, AJ got up, since she was speed walking with her tiny feet and already at the door, and took wide steps to reach her. Instead of grabbing her wrist, he saw her try to open the door, and instantly slammed his hand against it, above her head, to shut it close. Hulking over her now, after an unsettling moment of dead silence, he arrogantly pleaded, “For once, can you do something for ME instead of this? Or is it really that hard for you to put your selfishness aside?” Damn. He shouldn’t have said that last part.

The short girl’s reaction was instantaneous. Without warning, Val raised her leg and kneed him hard between the legs. She watched with equal parts of regret and satisfaction as AJ, now momentarily incapacitated, shifted his attention from blocking her exit to dealing with his pain, and took the chance to escape. The young woman quickly unlocked the RV door, flung it open and rushed right out, past the group in the parking lot without so much as a second glance and in the direction of the school’s gates. Screw the trip, screw her things, screw everything. She’d call her brother to drag her away from this fresh hell.

Seconds later, trying to work through the pain but honestly feeling like he was going to pass out, AJ took a step down, only to miss the last step and fall on the ground. This was a fucking great start. Muttering, and completely out of breath, he signaled anyone who was watching to do something, Stop. Her. With those last words, he just laid on the ground, waiting for the pain to go away.

People were loving the pancakes, Chloe had brought those hellasiously good rolls that Reyna could never remember the name of, and Emi was looking like a fucking snack. The morning was getting off to quite a great start in her opinion. After everyone who needed a meal had gotten one, Reyna closed the trunk and hopped on the back of her car before beginning to eat. Smelling the food all morning had put her on the brink of what she would have sworn was starvation. Taking her somewhat higher advantage point to watch the show, Reyna only added in comments as needed. She was to busy trying to stop the growling in her stomach.

It took her just a moment to confirm her suspicions, but it did seem that Katie would be joining them for their trip. Taking a sip of her coffee (thank God for Aleks), Reyna waved at her friend as she was dragged off by Aleks and Chris. Smiling at Sami's comment, Reyna didn't bother to ask him where the budding bruises came from. Sami had his own shit going on in life, and if he ever wanted to talk about it, he would find her.

"Glad to be of service, mi amor."

As Ivy asked why Val was dragging AJ into the RV, Reyna shrugged her shoulders. "I dunno. But I'm sure we'll find out soon enough," she replied, giving the other girl a playful smirk.

Anything else that was going on around her was drowned out by the sight of Leon. Tall, handsome, and he had just gotten back from a run. "Gracias Dios," she muttered under her breath, watching him take off his shirt. Ava's comment dragged her out of her quickly forming fantasy. "Oh come on, chicka. You're telling me you don't appreciate the sight of a well toned piece of man?" Reyna would save way more for Leon than just some lousy bacon. Finished with her food for the moment, Reyna closed the lid on the Styrofoam box before hopping down off of the trunk of the car. Head held high and hips swaying as she went, anyone with half a brain could tell who the girls next target was.

Greeting Leon with a smile, Reyna crossed her arms as she leaned against the RV.

"Morning gorgeous," she winked at him. "How was your run?"

Before Leon even had time to answer, Reyna could hear the yelling from the inside of the RV as AJ and Val went at it. The yelling coming to a hault as the door was slung open, Reyna could see AJ doubled over inside, clutching what little bit of man goods he had. Doing her best not to laugh, she quickly turned her head around to see Val marching off right as AJ requested that someone stop her.

"Leon. Can you stop the chihuahua from running off? I don't want to have to take a detour to pick her up from the pound later." As Leon stood there, giving her his adorable trademark look of confusion, Reyna rolled her eyes. "Go stop Val you big goof!"

Ohh, shit.

He had been about to respond to Katie when hell burst from the mouth of the RV. Valeria was running as fast as her little legs would carry her, skipping steps on her flight to freedom; AJ, it seemed, was just skipping steps. He flopped to the ground impotently, writhing in pain and frustration. Val was tearing by them.

Stop. Her.

Aleks turned to Chris, biting on his lip to hide a smile. He stuffed his mischievous look with a roll to hide a laugh, chewing over the appropriate response carefully.

"It looks like Val is a dom," he finally deadpanned, even though inside his mind was racing. How was he supposed to stop her? His leg could be used in a variety of ways, from tripping her legs out from under her to simply blocking her path to a turning side kick to the face. All were acceptable applications of force after seeing what she'd done to poor AJ and his trust fund. But if she was still coming along for the trip - and Aleks had to assume she was, otherwise AJ in his pettiness would allow her to run - than she wouldn't forgive him if she was missing teeth. He and Val had no problems with each other.

So she got to keep her teeth. Instead, Aleks would do all he could to ensure his first three godchildren didn't grow up looking like coneheads. So he spun out of Val's way slightly as she went on her tear and then walked calmly over to AJ, roll stuffed back in his mouth. He crouched down beside his best friend and looked down on him with guileless eyes - gentle, but still with a spark of schadenfreude. Peak Aleks eyes.

"Mmmph mmrrrph mmm," he said through his mouthful of breakfast. [Translation: "Just stay down, bratan."] "Mmm. Mmmrr mmm mmphmmph mrr mmm mmmph." [Translation: "Here. You have gravel on your cheek."]

He reached down and gently dusted AJ's scraped cheek free of any debris trying to cling to it. His other hand patted his curls.

As she couldn’t help but watch the shit show currently playing out, Ava remained leaned against the back of Reyna’s car, eying the scene unfolding itself like a crumpled up piece of origami paper half-finished.

Everyone who had seen Val go away with AJ knew that it wasn’t going to last long or that it would be a pretty sight whenever it was made public. Of course, Ava didn’t hear anything they talked about. She would have loved to be in the RV when they talked, but that was Ava just wanting to know the entire tea, not just hear the whistling of the tea kettle going to dangerous levels of hot.

But as Val stormed out like a bat out of hell, like the conversation she had with AJ went exactly as everyone who had half a brain knew it would, attempts, though not all as successful, seemed to be thrown out to try and stop her from leaving. And Ava just stood there, not doing anything, not moving from Reyna’s side. Ava remained still and she remained there laughing at how everyone probably was going to feel one way and she just started cracking up, causing her to miss what Reyna said.

Ava tried to control herself, taking in slow breaths but that only made her laughter leave the comfort of barely audible. This happened in conjunction when Reyna signaled towards Shirtless Leon to stop her. “Wait you actually want--” That was the moment her voice screeched and Ava’s lungs were on fire as she was hunched over, pointing at Leon then to Val and then back to the shirtless boy. “Oh yes, please grab the shrimp! We wouldn’t want her to go away!” Ava’s words came high and filled with this uncontrollable laughter she couldn’t get a handle on.

Sami raised his head from devouring the lovely food that the lovely Reyna has brought with her to the sound of distant yelling in the RV. AJ and Val were two of the, to put it politely, bigger personalities of the gear fits and friction between them was not uncommon. There was no doubt that in his mind this had everything to do with some of the girls that were here. Val did not hold much love for the likes of Ava, Chloe, Katie and Reyna. The Latina held a lot of animosity in her tiny frame and over the years they had been friends, Sami had seen it too many times to count. It also didn’t surprise him that AJ probably didn’t tell Val the whole truth about the people heading out on this journey with them; he was too much like his father in the regard of withholding the truth.

Within moments of the row starring it ceased with a loud sound which was unmistakable to any man in the immediate vicinity; AJ had just been hit in the good place; poor bastard. On cue, the door to the RV swung open and Val came storming out and passed the group as if they were the ghosts of boyfriends past. Aleks had swiftly made a beeline for AJ; their epic bromance continued. Reyna and Ava were being their usual sassy selves. Sami obviously couldn’t blame them. They were trying to push poor Shirtless Leon into the situation but he knew that was a mistake.

Ten years; ten long years Sami Alejandro had been cleaning up the messes of AJ Fucking Tyler. Not that anyone would know but this trip would most likely be the last time he ever did so; he guessed he had better get to step pin’ because the trip wouldn’t last forever. AJ had managed to pull himself to his feet with the help of his hetero life partner and was barking some nonsense towards the beautiful group of beautiful people. Putting his hand on Leon’s large shoulder and glancing over to the dynamic duo Ava and Reyna he shook his head with a smirk. ”Stay here, big boy. I got this”

Sami peeled off his signature leather jacket, revealing a tight denim shirt that showed off the stocky latino’s large tattooed arms, Leon wasn’t the only beast this group. Taking the jacket he hung it over Josie’s shoulders. ”Look after this for me mama” He eyes his bag for a second, half tempted to grab it so no one would sneak some peaks in it but he had to trust them.

Taking off after Val, it didn’t take long for him to catch up to her. When she took a brief pause he wrapped his arms around her from behind in a big semi restraining hug. ”Ok hermosa, calm your ass and tell me what the fuck is going on if I have to ask?”

What was Josie even doing here? The parking lot was busy, filled with familiar friendly and (not so?) friendly faces. Despite the crowd, she could tell certain distinctive folks were missing, and Emilia's question upon stepping into the fray only served to confirm her thoughts.

Josie made sure to wave at friends: Chloe and Ivy were two she aimed to catch the attention of before finally (wo)manning up to face Sami that had been making his rounds.

'Calm the FUCK down, don't be a fucking weirdo.' Josie thought as she released a strained smile. She just needed to... get her last two brain cells back in check. But when rugged Adonis himself was wandering over to her group, she was done for.

”Heya Josie. New hair is gorgeous. Like always”

Ba-dump.

Josie had to fight the urge to swoon after that greeting. That was some good Disney shit right there, and in trying to resist sounding like an absolute dumbass, she couldn't stop a giggle from escaping her lips. "You can have it." Pause. "Er, pink hair. If you want. I'm sure you'd rock it."

Do not-

"You rock everything you do anyway."

What's the point of having a brain cell if you don't listen to it?

Josie luckily did not have to suffer very long, as Sami's attention was soon grabbed by a storming midget and a fallen comrade. Between Katie, Val and Reyna, Josie couldn't help but wonder who would drive AJ to murder first. She held onto Sami's jacket and waved feebly at him as he took off after Val. She turned to Emi shortly afterwards.

"Dibs on not being the one to give Val her drink." Josie muttered immediately. Maybe she was signing Emilia's death warrant, but damn it, Josie had a leather jacket to enjoy. "We should probably check on AJ though, he looks like he's 'boutta check out any moment."

Chloé was happy to be among her friends, not that she had been apart from them for an extended period. But it was nice, and the thought of exploring the open road of America was even nicer… there were so many places she wanted to see, so many new hiking trails to get lost on, and new weird American traditions to learn.

"You know what? On second thought, let me at some baozi! Can't disappoint Nainai!"

Chloé blinked and the sunshine in human form was beaming brightly in front of her. The urge to grab Emilia into a cozy hug was overwhelming for a second but Chloé was able to push it aside, and gladly handed over the basket of dumplings. “Oh yeah! Please help yourself! They’re good for the soul, they’ll make you all warm and fuzzy inside you know all that… ooh, I’m digging the new badass vibes you’re giving off, you look good Emi.”

Chloé gave a genuine smile to Emilia, oblivious to the eruption of situation in the RV, while she briefly scanned her face for any signs of sadness. Letting a soft relieved sigh when she couldn’t spot a single trace “I have some snacks calling my name, so you’ll have to excuse me.”

Before she turned to relocate her boy food Chloé returned Josie’s wave and sent an enthusiastic blown kiss her way. When she turned to search for Aleks she could hear Reyna and Ava laughing and calling out for people to prevent Val from leaving. Amusement was present on her face as she finally tracked down her food and got the two-for-one deal on pain in the asses.

Chloé ran her fingers through Aleks’ hair as she stopped beside him, looking down at the ‘sweet’ show of romance between him and AJ, “Honestly, I came for my food buuut~ seeing you two being all cute might keep me fed, oh, and seeing that you’re still alive is good too AJ.”

Chloé threw a thumb over her shoulder back to where the second Val tantrum was sure to be occurring, “I think Sami has things under control now, so you can relax a little bit, but maybe somewhere more comfortable?” she smiled warmly (and a bit out of amusement) and held out her hand to help him up, “Have you eaten anything yet?

That was not how Emilia envisioned getting confirmation of her worst fears of this trip.

Yes, seeing Katie stirred up some very negative emotions, but at least there was hope that things could be set aside there. Hope that they could at least maybe, faintly, talk through some things without Emilia breaking down like a Zambian wristwatch, but Katie had mostly left her alone since Emilia arrived on the scene. It was something she was grateful for.

However, she also knew Val would likely be an issue. She just didn't know it would be such an issue for AJ. The poor boy. She didn't know what exactly Val did to him, but judging from the way he fell to the ground, it had to be something completely disorienting and painful.

Josie tried to pawn the task of giving Valeria her beverage onto Emilia, but the blonde had other ideas at the moment. Besides, one of them could leave the strawberry frappe in the middle of the pavement for Val to claim whenever she calmed herself down. Instead, Emilia was more focused on the injured party. With Josie being designated to hold Sami's jacket, it was more imperative that one of them tend to the wounded. Although one could always stop for more compliments, especially when they come from someone as lovely as Chloe.

"Lolo, you are too kind! In more ways than one! And Nainai's baozi is still the best in Los Angeles!" Emilia quickly finished her chosen bun before grabbing a couple of the drinks that her and Josie still had control over. "Josie, you saw her right?" she whispered to her best friend. "Right now, me trying to hand Val a drink would be like having Lady Gaga in her meat dress trying to feed a starving tiger. I know that won't end well. Besides," she looked over at AJ. "I think I can be more useful elsewhere. Guard the rest of the drinks for a sec, OK?"

Emilia took one of her spare orange sodas and AJ's drink order to the now fallen man who looked like he was experiencing a pain that she would never understand. If nothing else, Emilia had enough experience tending to Sami's battle scars to at least offer some comfort. Aleks would do what he could, but he didn't have drinks.

"Hey AJ!" she said, probably a little too cheerily given the situation. "Thanks for inviting me on the trip! Are you all right? Do you need some ice? I don't really have any but this soda is still nice and cold! Plus I have your drink right here! Maybe that will help?"

Everything around him was happening so fast, everything from Leon ripping his shirt off to Val dragging AJ away and Josie arriving. Nathan was feeling a knot forming in the pit of his stomach. Like an elderly southern woman that had caught the vapors, he needed to sit down. Excusing himself from the small group that had formed he wobbled over to the van again opening the middle doors so he could sit down on the fakewood floor. He steadied himself on his elbows laying back trying to gather himself.

From his vantage point in the van Nate looked on as Leon made his way around in a circle making sure everyone had a look at his abs. A loud slam brought his attention back to the RV as Val came stomping out and away leaving a huffing AJ behind hunched over clutching the Tyler family jewels. “What is happening…” Nathan grunted as he sat back up squinting to see where the small girl was storming off to. The next thing that caught his attention was Ava screeching with laughter at something. It was as if they all had gone mad… or was it him?

Nate shook his head trying to clear it. His eyes instead focused on his main man Sami and his… whatever she was now Josie. The stood close laughing together, this made something grow inside of him. Was this… jealousy? Whatever it was, Nate didn’t like it. He took a deep breath and swallowed his pride deciding to straighten things out with Josie. Taking his chance as Sami ran after Val.

Slowly Nate made his way over to the beauty in pink hair. Almost turning around about four times in the short distance from the van. When he finally arrived behind her as she watched Sami catching up to Val, he awkwardly cleared his throat.

“Quite the tumultuous morning huh?” he let out a nervous laugh kicking at some gravel on the ground. What now? He realized he didn’t really have a plan in mind when he came over. And now there he stood a mute idiot with nothing to say. He cleared his throat again straightening up, settling his eyes directly in hers.

“Look… Josie, I know what happened between us has made things… weird.” He started biting his lower lip nervously searching his brain for words that could describe what he was feeling. “But… I still want us to be able to be friends. And I know that it’ll probably never be the same since I… Uh... whatever. I mean this is supposed to be our last big thing right? I just don’t want it to be… as awkward as these last couple of weeks have been. We should be able to get through this right?” he asked sweating out humiliation through every pore, his face undoubtedly showing it.

There was...a lot to take in.

Within thirty seconds Val had come storming out of the RV with AJ collapsing out behind her. There was confusion, joking and laughter, painful expressions and ones of understanding. None of that really mattered, because for the first time since entering the parking lot, Leon finally felt it, an overwhelming sense of animosity. Leon knew he was dense, he hadn't noticed it before now, but apparently all it took was a swift kick to the nuts for him to both equally realize and yet not fully comprehend the tension that had formed in the air. It took him a moment to register that Reyna was talking to him, something about going after Val.. a chihuahua, the pound..oh that's what she was going for. Ava somehow found this to be utterly hilarious, even encouraging him to do so and while he wasn't exactly angry with them making fun of her, he wasn't really amused either.

"That's enough...both of you." His eyes probably looked doe like themselves, almost Mastiff in comparison, while his tone came across more like a disappointed parent in their child. Even though his look and tone belied disappointment, he couldn't really blame them for making the comparison, Val was...can come across as hot headed, fiery, like a small fire cracker. He always joked with her that she was like a terrier, more bark than actual bite, though given the pained expression on AJ's face that statement wasn't exactly true. The dog comparison though, was he really up to judge Reyna for making it? At least he told it to Val's face in confidence, but even so. Looking over to where she'd gone, Sami had taken up most of her form from behind her and seemed to be calming her down, at least someone was. Back over to AJ...he had enough onlookers to take care of him, normally he'd just pick up the smaller man from the ground, but it was probably more comfortable down there than the current hot spot in his groin; either way he needed to get out of the fray for now.

Hoisting up his bags he started making his way over to the RV, "I'm gonna go grab that shower now, so if anyone needs me, I'll be inside" At the very least he could go ahead and get clean and hopefully make this trip less mucked up than it already was. His only hope as he climbed the stairs of the double decker was that they didn't start the damn thing while he was in the middle of cleaning himself off.

She tried not to grin. She really did. She gave it everything she had, but it just wasn’t enough. Watching AJ crumple to the pavement, hands cradling the future of the Tyler family. She couldn’t help the amusement that threatened to spill over, as Val made a mad dash for some sort of escape, only to be chased after and restrained by Sami. Welp, that hadn't lasted long. Somehow, as Katie surveyed the carnage, she wasn't that surprised.

Aleks headed over to AJ, presumably to make sure he hadn’t just been completely sterilized. She watched the Russian boy walk off, for longer than was probably necessary. The accent, the charisma, the fucking jaw line. There was a lot that Aleks had going for him, and Katie hadn’t failed to take notice. She’d feel guilty about that, once she had the chance to imagine Carter’s reaction. For now though, her eyes lingered on Aleks, and she watched as Chloe came over, and ran her hands through his hair.

Smirking, she turned away, catching sight of Ava and Reyna laughing as Leon headed towards the RV, still shirtless. She took the sight of Chloe and Aleks for what it truly was, a sign from God that she was acting like a dumb whore, and pushed it from her mind. She was getting really good at that. No doubt she’d be much better by the time this trip was over.

“Save me a spot on that bus, Christopher,” she said to Chris, patting him on the shoulder as she headed over towards Ava and Reyna. She was unaware that Chris’ full name wasn’t Christopher, and she didn’t particularly care. She just thought that things seemed more important when you used a three syllable name at the end.

Strolling up to the girls that were perhaps her closest friends here, Katie waved, before tilting her head over towards Val and Sami. “So, uh, remind me to thank Val for making my arrival seem boring,” she said, laughing at her own joke.

Sometimes being surrounded by people was a good thing. A distracting kind of thing. People with a variety of personalities never let things get boring. This was usually a good thing for him. Yet, with all the attention directed to him (or Val, but mostly him), and with AJ finally being given a moment to slow down and catch his breath, he felt uncomfortable and suffocated. No, not because his children were at risk, but because everything, in this moment, felt like it was crashing into him all at once.

Not understanding one word coming out of Aleks' full mouth, the boy looked at him with a frustrated glare, even going out of his way to swat his friend's hands. Not now. He was already feeling some type of way toward Cosmos and this whole showing he cared, trying to be the comforting brother, was not helping. He was not helping.

Soon to follow, Trash and Fruit Loop decided to make things worse calling Val a shrimp and a Chihuahua and there was no doubt that this only solidified his losing battle. There was no way she'd want to come now. Why would she? These people were giving her every reason to dislike them, and walk away.

The pain easing and his energy slowly but surely coming back, AJ barked, "You two are something else. Fucking Christ. Shut-" Before he could finish his sentence, Sami was making his way to Val. Chris following afterward right when Katie called him 'Christopher' (wtf) and told the girls (Rey and Ava) exactly what was on his mind: “You know, if you guys weren’t going to help, the least you could have done was shut the fuck up. This is supposed to be a damn vacation, no need to pour gas on the fire, ladies.”

Although Chris had said enough for the whole party, Leon added a pinch of disappointment with his 'that's enough'. As soon as he scolded, Leon made a great escape to the shower. Finally, Chloe was staring down at him, running her hand's through Aleks' hair while checking on the boy with the pained groin. Usually, he wouldn't mesh Ava and Rey together, since he had a higher tolerance for one over the other, but this. This was not the time or place for this shit.

With Chloe's offer of food, and show of concern, AJ shook his head, "It doesn't matter, I just want to hit the road. Thank you, though." Unfortunately for Chloe, AJ didn't take her warmth as kindness. It was clear to him she was more here for Aleks than she was for him. At least, she wasn't causing trouble. Out of all the girls Val didn't get along with, Chloe seemed to be 'next level' solely because she was beautiful and standing next to Aleks most of the time probably didn't help. They were blessed with good looks and from this angle, maybe, AJ could see where Val was coming from.

While he held Chloe's hand, before he used any energy to get himself up, Emilia and her infectious happy-go-lucky voice chimed in. It almost seemed like she was going to put the drink on his... part... so he quickly swiped it out of her hand and took a sip, letting go of Chloe's hand in the process. "Mmm, good. No, you're good. This is fine. I'm fine." Amidst the chaos surrounding him, this was when Nate decided to approach Josie. AJ didn't notice since now, at last, he was picking himself up, deciding against using Chloe as a crutch. Call it pride or whatever, but he could do it himself.

Standing up now, his eyes rested on Katie talking to the two bitches. It was finally settling in that she was here. It was finally settling in that someone that wasn't Val invited her. It was finally settling in that he wasn't okay with this. What would she gain by coming along? Didn't she have a boyfriend to keep her busy? Hell, she could easily go to Greece and be with her brother and his boyfriend! There were so many questions crashing into his head. His impulsive nature wanted to ask them all now, make the scene worse and cancel the whole trip, because Val was definitely not coming anymore.

But...

He couldn't. Seeing her made him see Jamie. She came in his car and now she's pretending this isn't a big deal. He was too sober for this shit. The heartache he should've gotten over the moment Jamie and Marshall went Facebook official was still there, stinging.

"Fuck me." He muttered, all those around him would've heard. Aleks, Chloe, Emilia. Swiftly and temporarily brushing it off, while he not only had pain on the outside, but also on the inside, AJ took this instant to join Leon in the comfort of his family's RV.

"Thanks, guys. Really. I'm going to wait for things to settle down. Enjoy your breakfast, then we'll head out." Once he took a sip of the soda, he smiled at Emi, showcasing the drink she gave him, "Refreshing. Just what the doctor ordered."

With that, AJ left them behind and found himself laying down on the sofa, right arm covering his eyes.

"Oh, brother."

Ivy had remained silent as the current events began to unfold in front of her. She had already rolled her suitcase to the side of the bus and took a seat on top of it when Val came bursting through the RV door; Ivy folded her arms across her chest as she watched the girl stormed away, her eyes following her every step from behind her sunglasses. Seconds later, AJ came tumbling out of the RV himself... literally. As the young man hit the ground, Ivy couldn't help but flinch and mutter a quick "ouch" under her breath. Ivy knew better than to get in Val's way when she was angry, so she left that job to Sami, who swooped in just in time to stop her before she got away. Good ol' Sami. What would they do without him?

"Y'know, I actually kinda agree with Chris here," Ivy said after a while as she stood from her seat and grabbed hold of her suitcase once more. She spoke loud enough so that all of her friends could hear her, and directed most of her message towards those who'd only added fuel to the fire. "I mean, come on guys. This is supposed to be a fun trip with a group of friends. I mean shit, this is our last Summer together before college or whatever the hell we got planned, so we gotta make the most of it, right? Can't we just push all the drama to the side for a little while?" Ivy couldn't help but feel a tad hypocritical as she spoke, knowing that it was she who'd invited nearly everyone's "mortal enemy" on the trip, but she brushed that feeling off almost as quick as it had initially came.

As she began rolling her luggage towards the RV door, Ivy shot Ava a quick glance; she looked gorgeous, as usual, but part of her was slightly annoyed at the comments she and Reyna had made. "I love you guys. And I was really looking forward to spending time with all of you... but If I gotta spend these next few weeks breaking up fights and trying to mediate arguments then y'all can just drop my ass off at home." And then she climbed into the RV.

A few seconds later, however, the young woman's head popped right back out. "Not really though, cause I think everybody here knows that I'd much rather be here than at home for the next three months... so let's get it together. Deadass."

And then she was gone again.

Featurning Sami Alejandro, Chris Reyes & Valeria Drake

Chris and Katie watched with laughter as Aleks stuffed buns into his mouth as if he’d been starved all his life up until now. Of course, Chris knew that was far from the truth, as he’d seen Aleks put more food away than one could expect for a body his size… and lord help you if you were around him when he got hangry. Everything had been going well, the olive branch had gone swimmingly and Katie turned out to be a pretty cool chick. The conversation had been so easy breezy that Chris had all but forgotten the feuding pair in the RV… right up until their presence was made violently known for all to see.

Val stormed out of the RV followed by an incapacitated AJ tumbling to the ground, clutching his crotch. Jesus Christ, what on earth did he say to her to warrant that? The thought came and went quickly, Chris knew his best friend well enough, AJ had a knack for saying overly harsh shit in the heat of the moment. There was a slight possibility that he might have deserved it… but he also knew Val well, and she could be dramatic as hell. They both could be, which makes it a real miracle that they haven’t killed each other yet in all these years.

The severely out of place punk watched helplessly as AJ crumpled, Val ran, Aleks went to AJ and, instead of anyone going after Val, a few of the peanut gallery members sought it fit to make snarky remarks about her. How helpful. “Ahh...shit…” Chris remarked through a deep sigh. Katie called him Christopher and looked like she was about to head elsewhere as well. “Hold these for a sec, actually, pass em out, please?” He handed the bag of bread and jam to Katie before she flitted away, hoping that she might be able to distract the gawkers with food. Unlikely, but worth a try.

Looking in the direction that Val had darted off, Chris saw Sami taking off after her. Good, at least someone else was being useful. Of course it was Sami, too, that leather-clad saint. Knowing that the latino would catch up to her without much trouble, Chris took the time to glare at Ava and Reyna. “You know, if you guys weren’t going to help, the least you could have done was shut the fuck up.” Ah well, so much for the whole “I’m not an asshole” claim. You can take the kid out of the streets, but… “This is supposed to be a damn vacation, no need to pour gas on the fire, ladies.”

Shaking his head in disappointment, Chris turned and jogged after Sami and Val. He saw that Sami had caught her and had his arms around her. He wondered momentarily if she would be comforted by that, or if Sami would be next in the Sore Nuts Club because of it. Chris waited for them to part, but made his presence known by clearing his throat. “Where you runnin’ to, V?”

“Home!” the girl had immediately shrieked, blinking back the hot tears of fury threatening to roll down her cheeks. Her chubby face was red with anger, lips tightly pressed together in a pout while a deep crease seemed to have etched itself between her eyebrows. If you looked closely enough or were holding her (like Sami obviously was), you could see that her small, petite figure was shaking: that was never a good sign. “I’m not going anywhere with bitches I don’t even like in the first place! And if you guys really cared about me, you wouldn't try to convince me to stay anywhere near them. So don’t bother wasting your breath and just let me go back home!"

“Val..” Saint Sami tightened his hug on the glaring little fireball and placed a chin on top of her head. “You know we can’t let you do that mama.” Cuban (Not Baby) Yoda was not much taller than Val as he only stood 5’9 and was not the bronzed Adonis type that walked around the Beverly Hills High School like it was going out of fashion. He was a compact built bruiser made for fighting, fucking, and cooking, not necessarily in that order. It made him ostracised from day one. Sure, he had AJ, but the Tyler man always had something else going on. It wasn’t until he crossed paths with Valeria in the school parking lot that he made his first true friend.

“If you were to leave-- which you aren’t but if you were-- what am I going to do? There’s only so many times I can deal with Shirtless Leon or a dramatic Nate. What about Chris? My God, what if I have to listen to him drivel on about Aces and his love for her? Shit, can you imagine it when we turn on her show? Waterworks! And who will watch Edenridge with me? I need to know what happens to Lanie and Roddy’s baby? And that’s just the superficial things.” Sami shot a look over to Chris as if to call out: a little help, bro!

Chris shot a glare at Sami the “saint” when he mentioned Aces, while Val let out the first snicker of the morning. That was a sensitive subject. “I don’t—” He couldn’t say that he didn’t love her, the words jammed in his throat like an LA traffic pile up. Love in and of itself was terrifying — but loving a barely recovering drug addict, paired with his own addictive personality: Destructive with a capital D. “Whatever, not the point.” He looked to Val now, his almond eyes soft with affection for his best friend and one time lover. “For real, though, you can’t go home already. I’ve never been able to go on a trip like this… and I might never get to again, and it’s supposed to be a trip with ALL of my best friends. If you leave now, I’m a best friend short, and that’s a whole lotta suck ass. C’mon, don’t think of it as a going with them, you’re going with us.” Chris said, gesturing to Sami and himself — as if they were the most irresistible pair.

Between Sami’s warm embrace, his funny back and forth with Chris, and both boys’ gentle words, the two had made heaps of progress with the once-furious Val. The girl was visibly calmer now: her breath no longer labored, her body no longer shaking and her face no longer scrunched up in anger. Yet, as much as she appreciated their brave efforts, she remained unconvinced that her presence at this road trip was indispensable.

“You can still have fun without me,” Val insisted, still being every bit as bullheaded as only she could be. “I’m just going to be a little party-pooping black cloud anyway. Nobody wants that lingering around, right? Soooooooo, how about you guys just let me go back home? The two of you can join the rest of the group. Just head on out, have fun, and when you all come back my select group of trusted people can all go on our own little adventure somewhere else-- just the few of us. No ugly surprises or half-truths or withholden information. I’ll make sure to plan every detail and keep out the people I don’t like.”

Sami shot Chris a glance and sighed through his nose. Freeing Val from his arms, Papi Sami placed his hands onto his hips. “Val, I’m not coming back,” He didn’t want to have to play this card but he felt like there was little choice at this point.

Wait, what?! The girl's eyes immediately widened in shock, and all previous anger about whatever had happened before took a backseat to this unexpected revelation. “W-what do you mean, 'you're not coming back'?” she asked him, her face a mask of worry while her voice was dripping with concern.

“At least not right away. There’s a lot of shit going on right now and it’s best that I just get outta here. I got some money together and the plan is to just disappear somewhere that I like. So it’s quite simple, hermosa; you’re coming on this damn trip so I can fucking say goodbye. Now suck it up, shut your mouth, wiggle your ass and go drool over the shirtless one or I’m swinging you over my shoulder and tying you up with your favorite pair of yoga pants.”

The brick house of a boy had not revealed his plan to anyone, though that was typical of Sami. He was quiet and resolute; like an old oak tree that stood at the side of the road. You drive past it every day; you forget it’s there but once in a while there’s a storm and you’re reminded how strong it is.

“So are we doing this or not?”

While the girl bit her lip in hesitation, Chris heard Sami’s words but reacted with a bit less surprise than Val. Sami had spent the past week on his living room couch, and then he disappeared in the middle of the night last night. Intuition said that something was up, and Chris knew there was a lot of trouble in Sami’s life, so of course he was going to use this trip as an escape route. Chris nodded in agreement with Sami’s question and looked to Val with a smirk. “You gotta admit, getting tied up sounds kinda fun, don’t it?” He asked her with a quick wink.

“Only if you're the one doing the tying…” the girl said instinctively, mischievously wiggling her eyebrows with a little smirk of her own, and responding in the usual way she would to Chris whenever it was just the two of them making jokes about the one night they spent together. But as soon as she realized what she had said and how it could come across to Sami, she flushed, eyes wide with panic. “Shit, sorry!” Val apologized to her muscled friend, thinking on her feet for a good excuse. “We just, uh, joke around like that sometimes. Right?” she rambled, looking at Chris in a silent plea for assistance.

“Of course, why you blushin’?” Chris responded, playing it much more cool than Val was. He even gave her a friendly fist bump to the shoulder. “You don’t need to hide your secret crush on me. Sami’s not the jealous type, are you, Papi?” Wiggling his eyebrows at Sami with a look in his eyes that begged ‘just go with it’. “There’s enough of Chris to go around for all.” He turned back to face Val, “And the only way to get a slice is if you come along on this trippp.” Puppy dog eyes activated.

The short girl rolled her eyes, momentarily distracted from the worry of her and Chris’ secret being exposed. The few people that really knew Valeria Drake were aware of just how loyal she was to her friends. No matter the time or circumstance, she would always be one of the few people you could count on to have your back through thick and thin regardless of the consequences. Even if she was stubborn, grouchy, moody or whatever else people who didn’t know her might say, she had an undeniable soft spot for those she held close to her very well-guarded heart. And in instances like this, two of those special individuals were taking advantage of that secret chip in the armor. Leave it to her friends to resort to guilt-tripping in order to get her to change her mind.

“You guys know that I know right?” Sami started, while Val's embarrassed eyes immediately shifted to the ground. “Do you two honestly think I wouldn’t figure out that you fucked? Dios mio! I figured it out before you two even got on your backs and did the good thing. I mean for God's sake I put you on the bike! Honestly, it’s like you kids don’t know me at all.” Within the light heartedness there was a twinge of sadness; sometimes Sami did question how well his friends knew him. He knew everything about them, literally everything, yet could even one of them answer the question of what was Sami’s favourite color? There was no doubt, much doubt…

Yet before Val could react with something other than a scarlet blush on her cheeks and a few incomprehensible words, the Latino put his arm around her once again and smiled. “Now come on, let’s go back, get out on that road, and cause some fucking mischief.”

As much as she wanted to be a heartless, selfish bitch and leave, there was no way Valeria would ever turn her back on her friends-- even in something as dumb as a road trip. Sure, she was prideful and arrogant, but she was also aware that if it ever came down to it, Sami and Chris would make the same sacrifice for her as she would be doing for them. And what kind of friend would she be by putting a damper in the plans they had been looking forward to for so long? In the end, it was safe to say that, if they wanted this trip to be a real success, they needed her as much as she needed them.

Fueled by that relentless loyalty, the short girl wrapped her arms around both young men and locked them in a tight, affectionate group hug. “I love you, you assholes,” she muttered, giving each guy a kiss on the cheek before releasing them from the embrace. “Fine: I’ll go. But if I end up tossing Emilia out of a window or throwing hands with Reyna or Ava at any point, don’t say I didn’t warn you both.”

Chris considered the prospect of a good old fashioned girl-on-girl catfight and nodded. “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”

And with a sharp smack against the back of his head, Val confirmed that all was right in the world again.

Aleks blinked when AJ's palms brusquely slapped at his own fingers. He felt the sting only on his fingertips, and when he saw AJ moving to strike he reared back defensively, evading most of the irritated swat. He rose up to his feet beside Chloé, holding his hands up in a placating gesture at his friend.

Oi, oi.

He tilted his head back to swallow the final bite of his roll, thankful for Chloé taking her food off his hands so he could effectively communicate. At least her fingers in his hair felt good; he was grateful for his best friend's soothing presence, or else Aleks might have even been tempted to reply. But he knew that it wasn't coming from a place of malice. Val had hit him in the nuts. It was pretty mean of her.

Aleks let out a deep breath, wondering if he had just imagining his pulse jumping up.

He probably was.

"Alright, man," he said gently, hands only lowering slightly. "I'll be inside if you need me for anything."

He backed up towards the door of the RV and followed Ivy inside.

While Emilia had wandered off to deliver the last of the drinks in her hand, Josie decided to stay put a little further away. Far enough to not crowd the wounded man, but close enough just to let AJ know that he had another friend in her. However, standing alone wasn’t in her fate for long, before she was joined by a certain someone.

“Quite the tumultuous morning huh?”

You could say that again. Josie, like Nate, let out a burst of nervous laughter. This was their first time talking since prom and… she didn’t know what to say or do. So when Nate decided to continue, Josie listened.

“You’re right,” She nodded. “I’m sorry for making things weirder than it has to be. I don’t want to lose your friendship either…” Nate was a handsome man, and a sweet one to boot, so why couldn’t she feel the same way? The leather jacket around her shoulders sat heavily, reminding her why.

Nate eyed the jacket that the girl had now thrown over her shoulders and was now practically smelling. He let his face fall for just a second too long before he composed it back into a somewhat pleasant smile. But really it was a weak attempt. Of course, he couldn’t measure up to someone like Sami. The guy was built like a fucking tree trunk and he cooked, for god’s sake. And who was he? A hermit who knew his way around a camera.

“Well I’m glad that we’re on the same page finally…” he lied looking around for something to change the subject. When he came up short he settled for: “So… uh… Addie told me to say ‘Hey’” he lied again, Addison had not spoken to him for the good part of a week.

Josie had noticed Nate’s expression, but it had to be because of how much she had been avoiding him, right? At least now they could rekindle their friendship, and Josie was very much willing to admit that she missed Nate’s company. When he mentioned his sister, she perked up. “Oh, really? I’d tell you I say hi back but, er,” She left it hanging with a sheepish smile. “How is she doing anyway? I haven’t been at the inn for a hot minute, so I haven’t been able to check up on Adds myself.”

“Uhm…” the boy hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. “Well, she’s kind of mad at me right now actually.” he kicked at some more rocks on the ground. “You know, leaving her alone at home for… the summer.” he wasn’t sure if he was ready to let it be known that he and the van were not returning with the rest of the gang.

Josie remained silent for a moment, chewing on her bottom lip. “Is that so… Well, I hope she knows she’s always welcome to crash at my place. Mom loves you guys, probably even more than me.” Addison working at the Pet Inn part time was more than enough for the Durham matriarch to consider her part of the family. “Plus, it’s not like we’ll be gone forever.” Josie let out a nervous laugh that she couldn’t hide. A great journey across the country only to return right back home… what a disappointment.

“Yeah…” he chuckled grimly. “But you’ve met my dad. Not the most fun to be around. So I think she’s gonna pick up a few extra shifts I’m guessing.” he smiled at his regained friend.

But, Josie couldn’t let herself remain glum for long. She’d finally made up with Nate! “Oh, before I forget.” Josie took a step closer to Nate, extending her arm in between them to offer him a look at the small drinks tray she was holding onto. “Got you something special,” Josie kept her eyes trained on his expression, hoping to make him feel better with a little cold treat.

His eyes lit up at the sight of the golden brown liquid in the plastic cup that Josie was holding. She had remembered his favorite drink order: a large ice tea with mint and lemon. “Oh you remembered!” he grinned as he grabbed the ice-cold drink from her. Slurping down the drink he noticed that he was actually parched so he downed most of it in one go.

“How do you think that’s going?” Nathan asked pointing to the small group consisting of Chris, Sami, and Valeria all hugging together. “Think they were able to wrangle the stubborn bull back in? If so we should be good to get going. You riding in the RV?”

Josie pursed her lips as she watched the scene from afar. "Well, based on that smack to the head I'd say so. Think he got off easy compared to AJ." She glanced at AJ's direction briefly again, only to realize he was gone. Understandable, she'd mourn the loss of her future children too if she were in his position.

”I think Emi is going to choose the RV so I gotta look out for her. Y’know, just in case someone says the B word.” A promise was a promise, and the pink-head had no intention of earning the wrath of Nana Hedvig. She wondered what Sami would choose ('N-not that she was trying to follow him around!')

“How about this, we hang out once we reach Vegas. Make up for all that lost time, deal?” She didn’t want to abandon her newly rekindled friendship either. Friendship was hard to maintain when you could barely string a sentence together without sounding like a complete nonce.

“Oh…” he tried to hide his disappointment, but again was probably doing the worst job at doing that. “Yeah, no of course.” he rubbed the back of his head again. “Vegas it is!” he gave her a thumbs-up not really knowing what else to do. “Speaking of Emi… maybe you should go check on her. I’m… uh going warm up the old van so she’s ready to go. Talk to you later yeah?” he spun around quickly and headed to the van.

“Bu...t..." Before Josie could finish, Nate was already gone. She had noticed the disappointment and immediately felt like that nonce again. It was like prom all over, and here she was hurting someone she thought was dear. “You're a fucking idiot Josephine. Got one hottie into you but you gotta go for the one that probably only considers you a friend." Josie muttered, sighing to herself. At least she understood how Nate felt at prom because damn did that hurt...

Clicking her tongue, she tore her head away from Nate's van and towards the RV. “Focus on Em, she needs you right now. Your bullshit can wait." A quick pep talk to herself later, Josie returned to her best friend's side.

The likes of Ivy and Chris should know Ava enough by now to know she was only having a little fun. If Val was so emotional and that easily affected by a simple comment, which again Ava was joking, she wasn’t gonna get anywhere in life. There were a lot of people worse than Ava and who would say worse things to the creampuff. Ava wasn’t exactly feeling this whole “poor Val” schtick she was putting on, as if she was any better than anyone else around them. Everyone had a couple of people they didn’t like. It’s not Ava’s fault that Val happens to have more than anyone in their right mind would.

“I swear if they are going to hold her hand like this, the entire trip is going to be a bust.” Ava lamented her frustrations with everyone taking Val’s side to Reyna, who was probably one of the few people here who wouldn’t jump down her throat.

What probably got to her most was Ivy and how quickly she was to jump down Ava’s throat about one little comment. It was early, so maybe Ava wasn’t as in touch with her feminine sensitivity (yeah, like she actually has that), but it was really pissing her off that Val was getting special treatment. Of course she could spare enough sympathy for the girl for having some problem with the entire female species at Beverly Hills High, but come on! To be so childish, she made a whole scene. That was something Ava couldn’t grasp.

“I’ll tell you this now, Rey,” Ava said, leaning closer to the latina, “if this shit keeps up, I’m just going to take the first plane back home. Lord knows I don’t need all this special snowflake B.S.” It was barely even starting and Ava was clearly not having it and that didn’t even include when she saw Nate and Josie together. “But whatever! I’m gonna hitch a ride on the RV. At least I can surround myself with beautiful people to distract me from the morons tagging along.” She forced herself to laugh and grabbed her bags and hoisted them over her shoulder, walking towards the RV.

For someone who was in a lot of pain a moment ago, AJ showed remarkable resilience. It made sense given how many hits that boy took on the football field. Or, he was just putting on a brave face. Whatever it was, he was very quick to snatch his drink from Emilia's hand.

"Mmm, good. No, you're good. This is fine. I'm fine."

"Oh... OK!" Emilia took his word on it. Because he wouldn't lie. Not like Brandon. Everything was fine with Brandon, or so he said. How many times had he been fine in the last six months before prom? It was his go-to line. But everything wasn't fine. He revealed that clear as day under that enchanted forest. He took a magic branch and beat the hell out of her heart. And it was still walloping and still hurting and it just... it just...

"Refreshing."

"Huh?"

AJ's remark seemed to snap Emilia out of her own little spiralling world. He was enjoying the drink. "Just what the doctor ordered."

"Well, I'm just glad I could help! It's the least I can do, right? Anyway, I'll just put my stuff on the RV and I'll see you on there, OK?" Josie had returned from her... what was she doing? Hopefully it wasn't anything with Nate. If Josie was forced to confront Nate before the trip had even started, that would make Emilia a bad friend, and if she was a bad friend, that would make her no better than a bad boyfriend. No better than Brandon who...who...

Emilia could feel the sniffles starting to come on. She couldn't break down again. Not this soon. She hurried herself onto the massive machine and buried herself in one of the back seats, trying her best to keep the tears from raining down again...

So literally everyone could call Val short whenever they wanted, but for some reason when Reyna and Ava did it, it was a crime? What kind of bullshit was this? Reyna made slightly offensive joking comments about their group all day, so for certain people to act like it was anything different had her just a little confused. Rather than unintentionally cause any more shit, Reyna rolled her eyes as Leon boarded the RV. Arms crossed, she ignored anyone else who felt the need to scold her. Reyna knew she wasn't wanted here by most people (and that hurt). If it wasn't for her closest friends, she wouldn't even be here. Truth to be told, she was beginning to wonder why she had even come for them, much less at all.

Pressing her lips into a thin line, as she put her hands on her hips, Reyna watched the scene between Valeria, Sami, and Chris unfold. Deep down, she was actually glad that someone had stopped Val from leaving. While she liked to pick on the other girl from time to time, if it wasn't for Val, the two groups would have never come together. Reyna could give Val props for that, but there was no way in hell she was going to say that out loud. With the trio walking back to the larger group, it was Ava that broke Reynas train of though.

"Girl same. This is my last summer before college, and I'm not about to spend it changing my personality and kissing peoples asses. We can just spring for first class, get drunk and flirt with the flight attendants. Hell. I might say fuck all this shit and just go to Paris. Who knows?"

Grabbing her bags and stepping into the RV, Reyna took a seat beside Ava on one of the couches as she put in her earbuds - hoping that the whole trip wouldn't be like this.

Katie watched on as the parking lot that had only moments ago held a group of rowdy teenagers began to empty. It wasn’t long before it was just her and a few of the others grabbing their things. She looked between the RV and Nate’s van, then up to the sky. Val was making her way towards the van, which more or less made up her mind. She wasn’t about to spend a four hour ride through a desert wasteland making Val feel good about herself. At least the worst Emi could do was cry.

The good news was, she hadn’t completely fucked this trip up. They were headed for Vegas, and even though she’d been a little more than uncertain about how the morning would unfold, she found herself smiling now that it seemed like she was officially along for the ride. Not that she would ever tell AJ that. Feelings? She didn’t pack ‘em.

Taking a long look at the RV and the summer that was sprawled out ahead of her, she hoisted her bags onto her shoulder, and strolled over. She hopped up the steps, smirked at the sight of AJ reclining on the sofa, and took her own seat at the table in the kitchen, gazing out the window at BHHS for what felt like the last time. She held it tight for a moment, well aware that life was speeding towards her like a bullet train. She could try and run from everything else, but not that.
