Ash Holloway
Location: Administration (A, exterior) -> Mechanics (K)
Skills: N/A

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The smile at the corner of Thana's lips was mirrored by Ash. Rather boyishly, he began to walk backwards a step or two, loathe to break eye contact. He was acting a little immaturely, granted. The joy at being reunited with her again, especially after beginning to mourn for her death, wasn't going away anytime soon. Though it was tempered by his sense of professional ethic, which was why he didn't sweep her up in a spinning embrace right then and there, in front of God and anybody else who cared to watch. "Yes ma'am," he said respectfully, and with that little smile remaining. Before he committed to the full turnaround in preparation for the hauling of his posterior to his designated location, he ended with a quick information dump. "I've uh, got voluntary therapy at 1800." He wanted to get off on the right foot with CMB, for everyone's sake, including Thana's and his own. It was about community, and finding a productive place in it. "Bye for now. I'll report to the evening meal soon as I'm done." If it didn't go past time for the meal, anyway. It wouldn't be the first supper he'd skipped in his life.

It felt a little strange to take orders and place his duties around someone else's timeline. In many ways, he hadn't been in this kind of a position since advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood. As a green 2nd Lieutenant, he was still an officer, but the lowest ranking person present. He might have had all the training necessary to lead, but it was his duty to follow. Just as it was now. So in the usual form of a man whose time was not purely his own, Ash turned on his heels and made for Mechanics/Fabrication at a jog. It wasn't but a short distance away; he could clearly see it from the bus as they pulled in, so precious little time was spent moving from Point A to Point B.

Entering Mechanics, Ash gave a cursory look around. Unsure exactly who was present or who the highest ranking person was at that moment, he settled with the old soldier's gambit of announcing his presence to the room, "Holloway, reporting in!" before the search for someone specific began. He mentally readied for more cleaning on his part, likely the women's restroom in all of its fetid glory. He'd done worse. Perhaps he might even have time for a shower before he spoke to his assigned head shrinker. Psychological evaluation wasn't a new thing for him, it being standard in the Army that used to be. First things first - work.

Thalia Carmichael
Location: Administration (A)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

There was something about Rolodex that Thalia didn't like very much, but just couldn't place. It wasn't the way the seemed to act around men so much as an underlying method about her that rubbed her the wrong way. Maybe it was something a little too familiar, like the distinct urban-ness of the lady that didn't seem to wear away after the world regurgitated itself upon the living. Like she herself was, at first. Or the cloying way she had. It was difficult to say. Then again, the thing that was invoking her ire right that second was the condescending, impatient way in which the tapped her fingernails on the door until she went through. Thalia found herself swallowing back a low growl before it could reach the world outside of her head and stepped through, in route to Gunny's office. Demonstrating annoyance would get her nowhere. It was best to pay the lady no mind. Besides, she seemed to have found a niche here, and Thalia could understand that even if she didn't want to be friends. Survival didn't always have to mean bushcraft.

Then again, there were a lot of people that she didn't like. And a lot of people that she was pretty sure weren't fans of hers, either. To her philosophy, all of that was window dressing, anyway. She had some more time to clock in before she could get to dinner, and she really wanted to get to dinner. She might get sick of seafood after a while, but today was not that day. But the gateway was Gunny. Striding up to his office, Thalia tapped her prosthetic on the older man's door three times, announcing her presence with the sounds of metallic percussion. "It's An- Thalia. Back from the service." While she was never military in any classical sense, she was part of a private security corporation. In neither world of private security nor corporate America did one simply walk into the rooms of someone higher on the food chain than yourself, not unless special circumstances were at play that were obviously not, here. Besides, ultimately she wanted things from these people. Strategically, playing it safe was better for now. "I'm checking in."

The amputated, biracial seraphim took a lingering look behind her, back to the front of the building. As much as Rolodex wanted her to go away, Thalia figured that it was very probable that she wanted Alexander to stick around. Maybe she'd have to step back out to provide some cover. At least until they were done with their shift. His business was his business, after all.

Weather Forecast: Dawn at 5:57 A.M. - Dusk at 7:41 P.M. - High: 87F, Low: 72F - Winds SW at 4mph - Gusting to 10mph - No rain - Cloud Cover: 26% - Visibility: 9miles.

Notes: Alright, we are going to move to a general rule of "there are npc's about on the streets and such doing their own thing" Or in buildings like the Mess during Meal Time. You all are free to speak to random general (ones not listed in the Master Grid) NPC's - if you need answers for specific things let me know other wise the people are pretty open and will give directions or smile and nod towards new comers. We will take it little by little and as long as you start using them and things go smoothly we will start the transition for you to start embedding your own npc's into the mix. ^^

Also, we are moving away from the 5/10 square rule for walking and running. Think you all are good to just judge yourself if your character can realistically get from point A to point B during the time that is covered in a given post. Let's see how it goes. When in doubt ask, if at end of counter or in a hurry it is better to default to covering less ground in a post than too much.

Administration (A): Whatever hostility Sandra had had by being interrupted by Thalia coming into the building and messing with her own personal Fuck Hunt washed away when Alexander came into game. She smiled brightly and the sugar that laced her voice could have put a diabetic into a coma. "Oh my, well isn't this just the most pleasurable of surprises." Her lips seemed to pucker and if ever a Cougar had the look of devouring a meal made for two it was now. "I do so love a blending of the generations." It was obvious she was completely ignoring the fact that Alexander had asked about Gunny.

As Nigel made his retreat she scowled but it didn't last long. "Oh I will see you soon, dinner is in just a bit and then there is DESSERT!" she yelled after him before turning her attention back to Alexander. "Then again appetizers are nice as well."

Back at Gunny's Office the door opened. Gunny was standing there and he nodded. Turning he left the door open and motioned for her to come on in. "Leave it open," he added as he walked back to his desk and sat down. There was paper work there, neat but a decent amount. "Did you have the time you needed?" he asked as he picked up his pen and looked back down at what he had been dealing with. He wasn't hiding it, it was an open folder, red folder, inside it was a form and in large black letters it had - Court Martial - typed out. Reading more than that would take some rather obvious peaking and leaning over to figure out more.

Hospital/Medical (B): Things are not going good from what can be seen and now people are starting to stare. Doc was half a second from throwing Lisa off him, but stopped as he heard a voice. A loud, demonic voice. "WHAT THE FUCK!" It was SB herself. The small group of onlookers seemed to part like the red seas as she stormed up the stairs and towards the scene. "Oh for fucks sake, let me," she said swatting anyone in her way away and putting her hands on the pot, "on three," and her foot on Lisa's hip to give her some leverage. "One, two... (Str check for SB with 40 modifier in her favor).. There was no 3. Mary yanked and the thing came off Lisa's heady finally. Dirt poured out fully now and all over the place as Mary took several quick steps back.

"Can you now get off me please?" Doc asked as he seemed to have resigned to not only be flat on his back but covered in dirt with a woman on top of him. (Dex Check to Lisa to get up on her own, 10 modifier against her - remember this means add the modifier to the roll itself. If she passes great, if not STR check to Manny, 10 modifier in his favor, to help her up if he wants. If she passes and Manny doesn't need to help her up he can do the same check to help Doc up.)

Mechanics (K): Over in the garage Mizrahi was sitting on a stool de-greasing a piston, listening to Volts and Roy. "I ain't sayin' it was like that but it was like that," Volts said with a cheesy grin.

"Uh-huh, right," Roy responded as he crossed his arms over his chest and rolled his eyes.

"Oh my fucking god, that is the last time I am late to the Professors class!" a young man yelled as he came out of the womans bathroom and pulled his bandana off his face.

"Yeah it will," Roy chuckled before glancing towards Ash. He nodded slightly as Mizrahi finally took notice.

"Bathroom done. Have to clean Jail," Mizrahi said

"Yeah, Ted take Holloway over to the Warden and help him knock it out fast," Roy said

"Anything to get away from that bathroom," Ted said. The bathroom was clean and done now but that didn't erase the memories.

Assembly (P): Once Alexander was off the bus, Atticus climbed back in and Daytona shut the door. Putting the bus into drive she pulled out and started heading towards the Chapel to drop him off before she put the bus back in holding with the other vehicles. Joaquin took a seat and for the first time since the funeral detail had started he looked to relax some. He needed to catch up with his sister. Hopefully tonight now that things were calming down.

General Supply (R): Auntie looked over to Amelia as she came back in. The girl was quick with her words and seemed even faster to get away. Auntie quirked a brow as Amelia scurried off before making a mark down on the time sheet she carried on her before making sure she was behind the counter and bellowing out. "Make sure to get those deliveries done BEFORE y'all clock out for dinner!" The words seemed to echo through the place as Auntie turned and walked back into the back of the place. A few long silent moments passed before a scream came out of the back followed by a slew of very colorful curses about a mouse.

Inside Jail (AA):
So what is going on with the Jail? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Rolled for event, got a 7, you are in the clear. This is a good thing, usually, but considering Hunter is locked up, can't see or hear anything outside of the place, and is stuck in a cell looking at a puddle of blood that is drying with a tooth in it and brain matter on the wall maybe it would have been better if something had actually happened. Sadly for now, nope. Nothing!

Thana watched as Alexander passed her and half smirked half chuckled. "Right, see ya Mugsy," she said before shaking her head some. Those two were an interesting pair. Then again from what Thana could remember they always had been. She doubted if the world had remained whole those two would have ever exchanged words but then again how many of these people were the type she would have actively avoided if things were still like they had been before the world fell apart. Looking at Ash she knew she would have avoided him like the plague. Sappers were well known assholes that had a long tendency to be either racist or misogynistic or both.

Turning her head Thana looked over to Nigel when he came over. Would she avoided him as well? He was a teacher and someone deep into their own interests, even if that interest was Rome. He'd probably have been someone she would have gotten a drink during college. She had an inward chuckle, if things were different it would have been more likely for her to date Nigel than Ash. That was a twist. Shaking off the thought though she laughed. "She's got your sent like a coonhound and she's gonna tree ya sooner or later," Thana warned.

Biting her bottom lip she turned her attention back to Ash and nodded. "Either way I'll see ya tonight," Thna said with a grin coming to her features. She liked that idea. Seeing him tonight. Seeing him every night even if they didn't during the day. Curling up together. It was a precious thing, to have someone like that, to be with. It wasn't something she was going to take for granted. Her head tilted slightly as Ash left. It was rather obvious she was appreciating the view of him leaving. The man definitely didn't suffer from Nas'itol.

the bus pulled out and Thana noted that Joaquin was taking a seat in the back. That man was an odd one. Looking back to Nigel she shrugged. "Well we are off duty now for the night. Got any plans? Sign ups are in the education building if'n ya want me to show ya," she offered.

Nikki smiled towards Amelia. She was glad she was able to help the girl find something to wear. She wished she had been able to do the same for her dad when he died but no. She left his body where he hell, he probably rotted there or was eaten by walkers. Either way there was no grave and no funeral. Shaking the thought away she followed Amelia into the building and the door close behind her. She went back to the carts and began to double check things while Amelia checked in with Auntie.

Hearing the woman bellow made Nikki roll her eyes. "No, I was thinkin' about puttin' it off until tomorrow just so ya'd have a real reason to bitch about shit," Nikki mocked under her breath, adding in a thick accent to sound like auntie where all the words had at least two syllables.

Looking over to Amelia she picked up a piece of paper on one of the carts and handed it to her. "I'll hit this side of the town, you hit Water Repair through Enlisted Housing. We'll meet back up here to get the back areas. Shouldn't take long. You just wheel the assigned carts to the buildings, leave them and get the next. Armory they will have to buzz you in, just knock. Officers will be locked, leave it by the door."

Then Nikki heard Auntie bitching again and this time it was about Mr. Jingles. "Shit, better run," she said as her eyes widened. Grabbing a cart, Nikki took off. Her butt hitting the door to push it open. Slowly she turned the cart around and started to check the road before heading across the street and south west towards her first destination, Desalination. The bus was already gone and it seemed only Thana and Nigel were left from what remained of the funeral detail.

Amelia nodded at Auntie’s bellowed orders. So they had to do this before getting dinner? Shouldn’t be too bad, though the temperatures outside were still kinda unpleasant. Still it could be worse! She understood that very well now, it could always be worse, so one should always be careful and glad for what you had.

β€œMmm… mhm? Got it!” Amelia nodded as she listened to the girl explaining how they were to proceed with this. Making a mental check in her head, she noted the carts and which was for where. In the end she walked over to the cart for Water Repair and was just about to start pushing it off when another bellow, or maybe a scream, echoed. This one was about a mouse. With Nikki rushing off like the wind and leaving, Amelia realized that she should hurry too. They could think about catching that mouse tomorrow. They had time. She pushed forward the cart for Water Repair and hurried to bring it out from the building, though admittedly a bit more careful than Nikki did with the door. In any case she was outside.

Heat struck quickly as it had done all the time throughout the day. She wasn’t sure if it was better or worse than earlier, but she wasn’t in the dress anymore, so it felt hotter. In any case, pushing the cart down the street, she headed for Water repair which was on one side of the camp and luckily not far off supply. Carefully crossing the street with the cart, she pushed it all the way there. She finally left the cart at Water Repair and turned around, to head back to get the next cart. There were a number of them to bring at the different locations. She wanted to do a god job!

Finally after what felt like an eternity with a planter hat, the booming voice, that even a planter on your damn head and dirt in your ears couldn’t hide, appeared. Like a majestic savior the only person that Lisa currently considered sensible and actually not brain dead appeared. What a weird thing it was, for someone sounding usually so angry to be the person you feel most happy to suddenly hear! Well Lisa liked the woman anyhow… better than certain other 2 people involved with her predicament right now. Manny, bless his little soul wasn’t doing anything good with his helping and Doc was well… bloody annoying, almost sounding like it was her fault!

Lisa made a silent yelp as she felt someone step on one of her hips, presumably SB, but she didn’t mind. And with the short counter, finally her head was free from the planter menace! She hurriedly started running her hands across her face and hair, helping to get any remaining dirt off as much as possible, while also grasping for short breaths.” Thank… you...” Lisa said to her savior, before trying to remove some dirt from her mouth. At the words from doc, she wasn’t really pleased. She did try to get off him mind you, but it just wasn’t quite working out in his favor as between the dirt in her mouth, her eyes and generally the fact her senses were still a bit messed she couldn’t quite roll off him.

β€œ...” Lisa rubbed some more dirt off her face.” Just… wait… a … bit… can’t...” She replied, in between making grimaces as she was trying to get rid of dirt that got in her mouth. Was it bad that she felt like just pulling herself just a tad, just so she can just crash down on him harder…? Besides what was he complaining about?

Alexander Polawski

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Whatever had just transpired within the walls of Administration, Alexander wasn't picking up on any of it. Not everything in its entirerity at least, neither how Nigel the teacher had made a tactical retreat out the front door nor Thalia making a beeline for Gunny's office. To the amputated retiree still going strong, all things considered, he was more than happy to have Sandra be as friendly towards him as she was. Alexander gave a chuckled smile to her, placing his hands at his hips and giving the escaping Nigel a final nod. "Likewise, Sandra. These final days here with you have been most pleasent for an old fella like myself. Now if you would excuse me, got to follow Thalia quickly. See you for dinner then, doll." He told her, giving her another smile and a wave, following Thalia's trail.

Alexander began making his way after Thalia deeper into the Admin building, feeling a sense of joy filling up inside him. The sorrow from the graveyard visit hadn't left him just yet, neither the pain his his nose that refused to give up, however things looked like they were turning out better than expected. As he finally reached Gunny's office, at least what he guessed was, seeing him and Thalia there, he joined the two and stood beside his amputee in crime. They were asked if they had been given enough time. Alexander initially nodded briefly to Gunny, gesturing that they had been given enough time indeed. It hadn't been a funeral after all, just a brief visit. It had been good for him, and probably for the whole group. Closure was in short supply those days.

That's when he saw what Gunny was working with, or rather read the title of it. Court martial? A lump formed in Alexander's throat, reminding him of the many times he'd heard that sentence during way-back-when. Even he had been felt it dangle over him like a noose, but only almost. Instinctively he feared of what he'd done, but realized it probably wasn't for him. But if not him, then who? It was best not to ask, for they'd surely know sooner rather than later either way. Attempting to shake off the feeling of dread, Alexander turned to another subject. "Is the General in now? I've got an appointment with him now after work."

Nigel's attempt at stealthily escaping the cluthes of Rolodex had somewhat been less than successful, seen as the elderly queen of a Greek play had spotted him and foretold her intentions with him in an equally poetic phrasing. Leaning up against the wall of the Administration, regretting it quickly as he felt the heat trapped within the building spread through his body. He cared little about it for the moment, needing a deep breath after the escaping the clutches of the lioness. What in the name of Zeus had he gotten himself into?

With the breathing done and the immiediate fear dissapated, Nigel heard Thana recognize his existance once again, warning him of whatever Rolodex was going to do to him. Nigel tried ot laugh it off, the laugh coming out awkwardly, befitting a comedy more than a tragedy. "Is that so…It would seem I need to seek shelter with whoever may protect me then." Nigel responded to Thana's warning, wiping off the sweat as he walked up to her as Ash left. The two of them were close, they looked well for each other. Kinship like that was a rareity those days, and ten-fold something to take care of. Who knew if Nigel would find something like there, finally in a haven of civilisation.

As long as it wasn't Rolodex, he would contend to be a happy man.

Thankfully Thana couldn't read thoughts and ridecule his fears - or could she - and instead suggested showing him the sign-ups for activieties now that they had some time off. "Yeah sure, I'm in for that. No plans for now. Thought this morning something to do would do me good. Either some gaming, quilting or even that Dungeons and Dragon's thingy. I suppose fencing is off the table for now. For the record, what do you usually do after work?"

Failing to get the pot off Lisa was a rather harsh blow. She had been down a while now on poor doc and it seemed she and doc just needed a break. SB came over with her own thoughts on the matter, and was ready to end this right here and right now. "Thank you." He said to her once she got the pot off Lisa. Lisa herself then made an attempt to get up but it appeared that after what she had went though she was having a rough time with it. "Here, let me help you there." Manny took her hand and tried to get a good lift going. He thought he had decent footing, and seemed like he might be able to do it this time. Sadly he wasn't as fortunate as he would have liked.

His age started to show again and he made no progress. He cursed himself a bit, he wasn't sure if there was a leverage issue or if there was a simple raw strength issue. But he couldn't get this done. "Sorry..." He let go catching his breath. Thankful this wasn't a life or death situation. But what if it had been? What if this was a situation where he couldn't do what needed to be done and people could die because of it? Was it a sign he was getting too old? Or was the dentist turned field medic over thinking things? He hoped the last one, but he would be getting close to the age he considered retiring at originally anyways. Chances are SB would have to help Lisa again, or maybe they could do better next time.

Hunter Monroe
Location: Cell B

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Hunter laid down on the bed in a state of between being awake and sleep. Sleep was a great way to pass time, but Hunter wasn't a fan of the dreams that followed it. With nothing new to distract his thoughts it became too easy to dose off. He got tired a lot faster nowadays compared to years ago when he could function for days before he collapsed. He wondered if that was because he was a teenager then, or because the current times have just worn him down to the point where it didn't take much to tire him out. Or maybe in this case it was more of the boredom getting to him, and the lack of his traditional stressors that kept him going day to day. So Hunter found himself in a state between being awake, and being asleep.

Hunter snapped out of his day dream for a brief moment shaking his head. He didn't like nodding off in the best of conditions. It left him vulnerable, and he still didn't know how his current situation would play out. Even by dinner time he didn't know what things would be like in here. He had spent hours locked in a room with dead people bits. And he had lost track of time again. He didn't know if he had been asleep for a few seconds or a few hours. Was it the next day? No... It didn't feel like that much time had passed. Maybe an hour or two... maybe seconds. Hunter got up and rested his head on the bars. "...this fucking sucks." He simply stood there standing just to keep his blood flowing and to stay awake. He wasn't too tired, but tired enough that if he wasn't doing anything and got bored he could go off to sleep even if for a short bit. Mostly he needed something to do to keep his mind and or body active.

Ash Holloway
Location: Mechanics (K) -> Jail (AA)
Skills: N/A

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

It looked very much like Ash had walked in just in time to interrupt "guy talk". He wasn't often the type to engage in that sort of thing, but as a military man he'd heard it more often than most and yes, in periods of temporary immaturity, had lent a word or two into the discussion. Be that as it may, he still refrained from participating or even inquiring into what the hell they were talking about. Whatever Volts was saying to Roy was his business; Ash didn't even announce himself any more than he already had until Roy nodded in his direction, which he returned with equal depth and duration of gesture. His attention went to Mizrahi, who gave him the tiniest bit of unexpressed elation as the tall Middle Easterner informed him in two words that the bathroom was done, this punctuating the sudden emergence of a new face from the room in question. The new guy looked disconcerted. Ash couldn't blame him.

Of course, the next sentence to leave Mizrahi's mouth served to settle Ash right back into his previous mindset, that being the guy who needed to pound out work and get to the rest of the appointments of the day. For all he knew, the jail was worse. So much worse. Internally, he braced himself for what was to come. Also internally, Ash had no idea where the jail was, exactly. It might take him the remaining half hour just to find it, preventing him from both therapy and supper to tend to whatever they were using for stockades here. On the bright side, at least this job allowed Ash to see more of the settlement. Knowledge and familiarity were very good things. The faster he acquired them where CMB was concerned, the better everyone would be. "Yes sir," he responded to Mizrahi, ready to get this over and done. Ash extended a hand to Ted, introducing himself with with a simple, "Ashton Holloway," before striding back out into the Florida air. "At a jog, then?" he inquired eagerly, wishing for haste.

"I'm not running there," responded Ted, pointing to a golf cart loaded with cleaning supplies. He did jog, but just as far as the driver's side of the golf cart.

The pleased look on Ash's face was almost infectious. He climbed into the front passenger's seat and felt the awesome power of (probably) five horsepower careening him away from Mechanics, down the main thoroughfare, and around the waterfront on the settlement's interior. Ash waved to people he knew along the way, which might have been the people in front of Admin or Medical, though it was hard to tell from the distance. Well, he tried. Around the water, past Distillation, across a bridge and through a former residential area went they, finally coming to a building that looked to be directly across the waterway from the Admin/Medical buildings. Following Ted around to the entrance, he waited until protocol was met for entry to announce and introduce himself to whomever was in charge here, "Holloway, reporting for cleaning detail," It was brief and to the point. Ash wanted to do a good job and move to the next thing.

Court Martial. Thalia knew what that meant, after a fashion. Her old work didn't exactly have the same thing, as they were not allowed to assume responsibility over a person's fate unless certain, very specific criteria were met. Mostly, that involved credible threat to life or property. Or course, that would be called "Corporate Coaching", "Reeducation", or "Civil Disciplinary Action", most of which involved amassing evidence, restricting the individual in question, and turning everything over to local law enforcement. That wasn't her department, anyway. Still, Court Martial? The very sound of it made her think that someone military fucked something up really badly. This place had enough former military. Or present military, considering the way things were run here. Still, no peeking or leaning for her to find out more. She was not the Latina Ninja of CMB. Yet. And if so, spying on one's own people (if indeed, that's what these survivors were supposed to be now) was probably a no-no. If she wanted to know, she'd ask directly. In fact, Thalia planned on it.

First, Thalia was asked a question. She left the door open as she was bid to, and as she was not offered a seat she elected to stand with her hands clasped in front of her, or rather, her metal hand encased in her left. Then she tried to answer the question that Gunny put to her as succinctly as she could, considering that she didn't know the proper answer, herself. Did she have the time she needed? Thalia had to assume he was talking about the memorial service. To that end, both yes and no. Not as much as she might have wanted but significantly more than she expected. Ever. "Time. Yah, thanks for that, boss." She was terse but respectful. This was Thana's family, after all. Dipping her head toward the folder as a gesture of indication, whether it was noticed or not, Thalia took a direct approach of inquiry: "Who's getting Court Martialed?" If he wasn't hiding it, no harm no foul. If it wasn't something he wanted getting around, she could handle a direct NUNYA without it upsetting her day. Otherwise, her former profession and instinct for survival had her seeking relevant information about her environment and the people in it. This could be a learning experience. Learning was why she was here.

Oddly, Thalia was still thinking that she wasn't used to air conditioning any more. Hopefully, at least the blood on her face had stopped again.

It's going to be a little more than previous posts since we are getting close to the end of day and things are calming down now that the funeral detail has been taken care of and people have or are finishing up their jobs for the day. I want you to start thinking about how you are going to want to have your characters learn/change/stay the same because of being in Camp Mexico Beach. Why now? Well we will go through a couple of quick days soon and then do a time jump. Need you already thinking about these things and make sure it is where you think your character would progress (and if you can rp it out well.) Also, please start working with each other in chat or behind the scenes to see how your personal characters are going to grow towards or pull away from other PC's or even main npcs.

Camp Mexico Beach (General Streets): The sun is starting to set now, it is hanging low in the sky and the cloud coverage is clearing out. It is still hot but the temperature is dropping now and it is in the low 80's to high 70's. The humidity is drying up just a little. While not near as nice as it as it is indoors the small change it welcome, especially to those that are new to camp. You are so used to crap weather and no relief that the small changes make a huge difference.

As it is closing in on dinner a lot of the towns younger kids are already heading towards the mess hall. Daily jobs are starting to wrap up so more and more are on the streets. They are not idling around, most are quickly working their way back to their private quarters to get cleaned up. Some of the most elder citizens are taking walks around town now or cit chatting on various benches or tabled areas set up through out the town. Some late teens and early 20's are down at the beach hanging out, tanning, swimming, body boarding. Inside the walls of Camp Mexico Beach all is well, and calm, and idyllic. One might not even be aware of the outside world if it were not for the small teaching groups dotting open areas of the camp training for various forms of combat.

Amelia will pass a lot of this on her rounds while delivering cart supplies. Water Repair supply went smoothly, the next she will e hitting are Admin and then Medical - Refer to the other areas for information on them.

Nikki will be able to take care of Desalination this round and will end up at the Church.

Administration (A): "We'll talk later darlin'," Sand said in a whispy voice before sighing and shutting the door once Alexander was through it. Walking back over to her set behind the counter she started filing away the paperwork that Thana and Nigel had brought in. Gathering it up she unlocked the door and headed to the back to file it away, an office door just inside the door leading to the back. The door closed behind her as she entered. (This will be about the time that Amelia drops off Admin.)

Back in Gunny's office the man nodded at Thalia's thanks. "We have monthly visits to the graveyard for upkeep and visitation for those that are interested if you wish to return at one point, sign up is in the Church," he said in passing as he made a few notes on the file he was looking at. His head lifted slightly to Alexander and he nodded. "Yes, he is in his office, or should be. If not check out the back door," he said motioning further down the hallway.

Turning his attention back to Thalia, Gunny answered directly. "Monroe, Hunter." Looking back down at file he went back to writing. "Three days time if we can organize the council. A week if not. Court Martial's are public hearings, all interested may attend and may voice concerns or questions at that time." Dotting a few i's and crossing a few t's he looked back to her. "Both of you are off duty for the evening, return tomorrow at the same time to continue. And Alexander, glad to see you seem no worse for the wear after the fall."

Down the hallway the General had indeed been in his office but he was stepping out. Closing his office door as he exited it and locking it before heading towards the backdoor of the building.

Hospital/Medical (B): "Well this is going great," Mary scoffed as she set the planter down and watched as it seemed like fate had decided that Lisa was going to remain exactly where she was for the duration of the outbreak. That was until Doc had seemed to reach his limit of having someone planted on his chest. One arm went behind Lisa and the other swooped under her knees. In one swift motion he lifted her off him, sat up, stood with her in his arms and then set her down. The majority of the dirt that had been covering most of them fell to the floor and created a much bigger mess. "God damn it Michael!" Mary groaned motioning at the dirt everywhere.

Doc rolled his eyes as he took a step back from Lisa and started dusting his body off. "Oh you don't like dirt?" he said with a smirk before he leaned over and started shaking the dirt out of his hair towards Mary. She smacked his head and took a step back. Laughing Michael shrugged a bit. "It'll wash, chill."

"Yeah, well y'all wash this shit, I'm out," she said picking up the planter and shoving it at Michael before storming out of the building. Her shift was over anyways. She beelined it towards the general housing area to get out of her scrubs for the day.

Michael just shook his head towards Mary. "So, any real injuries I need to check?" he asked with concern. Sure Lisa had seemed alright but still she had taken a tumble. Right onto him. Lifting his scrubs he started to do a self check just to make sure nothing had gotten cracked. On this rib cage was a faded tattoo. A simple tombstone with soldier boots and dog tags, words read Sergeant Gerald Pricket - Soldier. Medic. Husband.

(This would be about the time that Amelia comes into Medical to drop off supplies.)

Mechanics (K): "Once done, off duty for evening," Mizrahi said Ash and Ted left the shop.

Roy was just standing there for a moment before following up with, "good luck."

"Now, back to what I was saying," Volts pipped in.

"I gotta take a shit," Roy said and walked to the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. Mizrahi had to hide his chuckles as he dropped what he was doing and slipped back under the truck in the shop. Volts was left there and pouted before storming off into the Fabrication half of the shop.

Education Center (M): Outside the main building of the Education center was another bulletin board. On it were various papers and sign up sheets. Out of all the classes listed ones handling weapons and self defense was missing. Seemed there was an open spot on the corkboard where it could have been but it wasn't there currently.

Inside the main building were a few people heading out for the day, an older couple was discussing the black plague as they walked towards the exit of the building. There was a circle of chairs in the main area where nearly half a dozen were seated with papers everywhere, they seemed to be a study group going over a chemistry lesson and working out the labs they had to do the next day.

Down the hallway there were numerous doors with post it notes on them that marked what classes where in each during which times. Some of the doors were highly decorated with things one would see in an Elementary school - hand prints of kids turned into different animals, themes different areas of study, even pictures of the classes together. It was all rather wholesome.

That was until "FUCKING HELL WOMAN!" came down the hall from a room that had it's door open. It was Maddoc yelling.

"Don't you start with me Macsen," the Professor warned back. Whatever they had been arguing about was at an end, or perhaps just a beginning as Macsen stormed out and started heading for the exit. Shaking her head she sat back down behind her desk and picked up a stack of papers she was in the middle of grading.

Chapel (V): In the chapel, Daytona has long ago dropped off the Padre. Joaquin got off the bus with him before she drove off. The two are sitting on the front steps of the chapel facing the ocean and looking out over the water. They both have a brown bottle of something they are drinking from and every so often Joaquin is taking a puff off a cigarette. "You need to tell her," Padre says to him.

Joaquin nods slightly and lowers his head. "I knoweth what I needeth to doth but finding the courage to visage such as the lady is putting a weight on mine own heart. So longeth I has't not did lay eyes on mine own blood and anon I feareth 'twill runneth bitter cold shouldst the lady knoweth." Pausing he shook his head and looked over to the Padre. "Bid me I am w'rrying f'r nothing"

There was a small understanding smile that came to Atticus's face as he wrapped an arm around Joaquin and pulled him in. "Yer worryin' for nothin," he assured Joaquin before kissing his forehead.

Inside Jail (AA): Downstairs in the actual cells things are calm and even. Hunter will be starting to feel the hunger more but this isn't anything he hasn't dealt with before. More of a "I could really eat" feeling than a true hunger when one hasn't eaten for days or even weeks.

Upstairs Ted heads in and it met with Cage standing right there inside. "Abut damn time Ted and.." he started before hearing Ash reporting in. Ted hadn't said anything more but Ash had. "Now that's more like it!" he chuckled before motioning for them to follow him. Heading over to a steel door he unlocked it and pulled the heavy door open. "Down here," he added before heading down, his heavy boot steps were easily heard down in the cells themselves.

Ted shrugged and followed. Coming down after Cage, he rounded the corner and stopped as he spotted the scene. "What the hell? Fucker finally snap?" he asked. He had heard a little but hadn't had time to get all the information.

"Yeah, figure he thought if he hurt himself enough I'd let him out or open the gate. Rammed his head one too many times," Cage said dismissively before glancing towards Hunter. "Hopefully that one has more brains than he did," he added before turning around and eying the two. "Ted you know the drill, Holloway, you're new so let me break it down. Even if he starts choking to death you don't go near his cell. You stay the hell back and out of arms length. You get taken, that's on you," he warned before turning and unlocking the cell where the brain matter was.

"I got him Cage," Ted said with half an eye roll. Cage scowled but walked off. The door upstairs slammed shut as he left and the sound of the lock being turned could be heard echoing down there. Ted sighed and pulled out a pack of smokes, lighting one up he took a deep puff. "Anyone want one?" he asked looking at Ash first and then Hunter.

Thana had no problem leading Nigel over to Education and get him signed up for some classes. That was until he asked her what she normally did when she was off work. The question itself wasn't anything bad, it just caught her off guard and she wasn't sure exactly how to answer it. That much was evident from the expression on her face. Like she was confused to what the question even meant. There was a long moment of her trying to get her brain to function. Several times she held up a finger like she had figured out an answer only to lower it as her face went through more than it's fair share of expressions.

There was a chuckle that left her lips and she finally through her hands up in defeat. "Well dog my cats, I don't know," she finally admitted before turning and starting to walk towards the education center. "It's just since I woke up here I either pent my time recovering or getting ready to leave," she followed up as she crossed the street. "Then I was back on the road so there wasn't any off time." That was easy to understand by anyone these days. If you weren't in the middle of a safe zone you didn't have time off, even sleeping was a risk that sometimes wasn't worth it.

Getting to the board outside of education Thana sighed and looked over to Nigel. "Then I got back and it was quarantine again. So this is my first night off really," she said with a chuckle. Shrugging again she looked at the board and her brows furrowed. "Well mule muffins, it ain't here. Let's check with the Professor, she'll know what's up," Thana added with a motion towards the door.

Heading inside the air conditioning hit her and she breathed it in. She needed a shower but that could wait. She spotted the older couple and stepped out of their way. Making her way past the study group she topped in her tracks when she heard her uncle yell. She gave a glance towards Nigel but didn't turn around to leave. Seeing her uncle storm out of the office she wasn't even about to ask. "So, Professors office is that one," she said, letting Nigel take the lead since he was the one doing the sign up. She gave a little motion to him to go ahead. "Don't worry, I got yer back."

Okay, she could do this. There wasn't anything to it. She had done this run hundreds of times before. Hell today was even easier since half of the town was covered by Amelia. As long as she didn't mess anything up and Nikki didn't have to go back to fix things it meant she should be done in like half the time, especially considering she wouldn't personally being having to drop things off at the Armory and having to deal with Bass. It wasn't that she didn't like Bass but after this morning it was clear to her that last night had meant a lot more to him than it did her. Sure she knew he had a small thing for her but she had made it more than clear that she wasn't interested in him that way. Not her problem. He knew what he was doing.

Shaking off the thought Nikki quickly made it over to the Desalination Facility over on the water. It was a quick enough drop off. Clean rags and the like. Most places needed similar with a few variations here and there. Putting the brake on the cart, Nikki jogged back to supply and grabbed another cart. Time to get to the chapel. It was one of the further places to drop things off but no where in town was too terribly far. Far less walking from point a to point b than a lot of places these days.

Hearing people talking as she rounded the corner she spotted Atticus and Joaquin. Her brow shot up and she grinned. "I KNEW IT!" she exclaimed. It wasn't any secret in town who was gay, who wasn't, and who was inbetween. It was hard to keep a secret in this place and people really didn't try. There had been rumors though for forever that certain people were dating. It was like a place your bets things - who would be dating who - who would break up - etc. In the back of all that had been that Joaquin and Padre had a thing going but no one could confirm, that was until now. At least that was how she saw it. She could be wrong but she doubted it as she jogged over with the cart. "Oh this is too perfect."

As Amelia moved across the street from Water repair back to Supply to pick up the next cart to deliver which for her great luck was also very close, she couldn’t help herself and observed the surroundings. The temperatures seemed just a tad better one way or another so that was good, especially when rapidly pushing carts around, but that aside, she was honestly amazed by the sight of all the people casually strolling or sitting about the place. She had a brief taste of it last night at the beach, but seeing it like this, truly made her doubt her reality for a moment. She fell a bit ill at east at the sight of such a idyllic life. Almost felt like it was an illusion, until she reminded herself she was part of it now too. For a long time hopefully, but better always keep her attention, just in case something goes wrong.

She hurriedly picked up the next cart for Admin and with it at hand crossed the street to get to Administration. Once in place, she carefully got the cart in position, put the breaks and called aloud.” Delivery. Going now.” Well not the most loud, but she figured she might as well call to inform them.

One delivery out of the way, she made another hurried walk to the rest of the carts and picked up the next one, this one was supposed to be for Medical. Hopefully there wouldn’t be an issue with it and once more it was just so near Supply that she got there without much hassle or waste of time! Maybe they’d be over rather quickly by the end of it? She passed by Assembly and carefully entered the cart in Medical.

Whatever Amelia thought Medical would be like… this certainly wasn’t it. Her first thing to notice was the dirt… and the rather poor looking Lisa. She was sat on the ground in the dirt and with dirt in her hair. What the hell happened here? Why was there so much dirt there? She was confused for a moment, but noting the empty planter the answer appeared obvious. Still she pondered the chain of events leading to this result, but other stuff too priority.” I brought the delivery from Supply.” Amelia called to attract the attention of the people in Medical since well the show with Lisa seemed to have attracted much attention and kept it.” Can I ask what happened here?”

Lisa let out a grumble and a string of low voice curses, wiping her face of dirt as doc picked her up. That was an act that she hadn’t seen coming. Lisa hadn’t be carried anything like this in a long while and then he set her on the ground again. It was rather nice actually and she didn’t even have to struggle to get off him, so overall she was in a net profit as far as she was concerned. Granted in a way she was also offended that he seemed so eager to get her off him. Was he implying she was too heavy? With the easy of which he picked her up, she rather doubted that.” Did you really need to be so eager in getting me off yourself? It’s not like I weight a ton, right?” She finally asked him with a raised eyebrow and dirty face, but at least her mouth was no longer filled with dirt or her eyes. She certainly needed a long bath however. Or maybe two. She mused.

Lisa looked at Mary and nodded.” I… will get to it in a bit.” She sighed, welp there went her chance to get off work early. Still all things considered they just needed to sweep and gather the dirt, then wipe the area around them right now with the mops and it should be good for the night. Tomorrow it would a full clean anyways, it was getting late now.

β€œNah… I think?” Lisa replied to doc.” I’m rather amazed actually… I hit the hole in the planter head on. Had I hit the corner… it would have been rather concerning, but I think I’m overall good.” She added and rubbed her neck and shoulders that had carried the most of the weight from the planter. As Doc lifted his Scrubs, Lisa spotted the tattoo of his, didn’t pay too much attention to it, past a simple recognition though. Each Tattoo had a story and while curious of that one’s, she wasn’t going to ask him. Seemed really personal.

Suddenly she heard a familiar voice, a new familiar voice at least. The intonation and the volume was a bit unusual, especially around here and sure enough as she looked, she saw that Amelia had arrived with the supplies. Lisa smiled at Amelia’s curiosity and concern.” Nothing much, just did a tumble… and had a planter spill.” She replied and attempted to get up with some efforts.” I’m going to go get the mops and the brooms.” Lisa sighed. There was cleaning to do. Again...

Emanuel "Manny" Newman

With the pot off and things seeming to move along, all that was left to take care of was getting Doc and Lisa off the ground. Which, Doc finally being fed up with the situation just picked Lisa up and and set her down, getting up on his own. Seemed both Lisa and Doc were fed up with the situation by this point. "That... that works too." Doc did a simple check on Lisa to make sure she was okay, then did himself. Manny took note of the tattoo as he did so, but held off pushing about it for now. This seemed like a bad time to ask with everything going on. It didn't stop Manny from taking note of it, and he wondered who the name on it was to the doctor. Someone close he guessed.

Mary had told the mixed group of tumblers with those involved to clean up the mess. Lisa had already started going for the cleaning supplies and Manny figured to follow with her for a moment walking by her side to get the cleaning supplies. "Hey Lisa, you've seemed like you have had a busy day. My day has been relaxed all things considering. So if you want to get out of here Ill go take care of the dirt and such. Just get it cleared with... I guess Doc before you leave. It's not too bad and I should be able to handle it. Plus, an old man like me? I'm new here, and have nothing to do after work. Plus, I spent the day outside and could use some air conditioning time. Go out and have fun with whatever young people have fun with now a days." The AC bit was true, but it seemed like Lisa was having a rough day and could use some breathing room and a break. Plus, Manny felt bad that he had been away all afternoon as Lisa worked. "I don't know where the cleaning supplies are now though, so if I could get help there that would be nice. Then we can go clear this with Doc so you can get out of here for the night." Manny would be content with some air conditioning, casual conversation with whoever was still here, and then once home a good book. If he had time after cleaning though he could go around and see what things were like after the work day.

It appeared that things were starting to look interesting for the soldier boy. Cage made some comment about brains that Hunter paid little mind too. But now he was intrigued with the conversation as there was people and something to talk to other then a pile of people goo. He followed along long enough for Cage to give Ash the rundown. Hunter felt bad that the man had been left with the restroom on his own, and wondered if they would put him back on it once the other one was done. Hopefully it would be easier then it was before. Hunter did give a little chuckle at Cage's comment about choking to death. "Awe, glad you are so concerned with the well being of the prisoners you're supposed to watch." He did wonder what Cage did more specifically since he didn't seem to watch the prisoners (In person at least), and he didn't maintain the cells. After he left though Hunter did sit back down on his bed. "Oh yeah. Gotta worry about little old me huh? Unarmed, skinny as a stick, I bet I could count out all of my own ribs. Maybe even the..." He stopped and had to think about it for a moment. "The... Whatever the fuck the two bones on the arm are. I don't know I'm not a doctor." He said with a shrug.

Hunter looked at the guy that came down with Ash, offering up smokes. Hunter was ready to point out how foolish it would be to light up something like that in a confined space, and the effects of smoke. Then he thought about it, and realized he had probably already done worse to his lungs years ago. Not enough to effect them now, but enough that in 15-20 years time should he live that long he may have problems. In the end, Hunter just shrugged. "If it's tobacco, no thanks. If you have any pot I'd be up for it. If not whatever. Thanks for the offer though." Hunter wasn't huge on pot, having it only once in his life but it helped him relax then. Plus, what had he to lose now?

He did give a glimpse over to Ash had was visibly trying to come up with words to say. "sorry to uh... leave you like that. Wasn't my plan to end up in here if I am being honest? Hopefully the woman's room wasn't too bad." He felt bad that Ash got left like that. And he knew from in here there wasn't much he could do to make it up to the man. "IF it makes you feel better, I'm not likely to try to grab you through the bars. Lack the strength, and the most viable weapon in the room would be that poor fuck's tooth. You know how intimidating the tooth of a dead man's tooth is nowadays? Actually... I think everyone should know by now. If not. they're probably already dead." He shrugged off that thought too. Now that the cleaning team was here, there wasn't much he could do about it now. Plus, Cage seemed very much like the person who would rather let a hostage die then let Hunter out. "So... if either of ya need me. Ill be in my room." He laid down and would listen to whatever either of them had to say. But now that he had talked, he wasn't really sure where to take his thoughts from there.

Alexander Polawski
Location: Administration (A)
Skills: N/A

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

There used to be a time when Alexander was the one to enter the fray head first, either verbally with some witty remarks of his youth or into actual combat. Hell, he could vividely remember the exact moment Thana had thrown all caution to the wind and charged headlong into the entry of Eden while Thalia and himself watched with dumbfounded looks. The exact phrasing just before he had done the same went something like this: "So much for the element of surprise, Blue. Time to go fuck ourselves." before he himself charged the building. Yes, he'd had his moments where he was the one making the breach.

Today it was Thalia who breached the silence, the secrecy, the question Alexander had not dared ask himself. Thalia was good to have like that, amongst everything else she meant to ol' Mugsy. But she wasn't afraid of asking questions.

Alexander stood silently, though focused as Gunny spoke back to Thalia about revisiting the Graveyard, knowing fully well he'd want to take another journey back there. If he worked hard and prayed ever harder, perhaps…just perhaps he could get her a funeral as well? He'd have to ask. Then it was his own turn to be answered, looking at Gunny as he was told the General was in. Probably, maybe, he'd have to check himself. Something never changed then. "Thank you, Gunny. If I get lost, I can always ask Sandra, I mean Rolodex for directions."

It was then that the bombshell was dropped - the accused SOB who was getting the court martial. Upon hearing the name, Alexander's heart sank just a little bit, though he wasn't surprised much to to his sorrow. Hunter, the young soldier with more problems than he probably had. Last night's actions had been pretty rough on the kid, but a court martial? From experience you didn't get sent down that route for usual drunken behaviour, so something must have happened. But what?

Then was not the time to ask, as Gunny briefed them that their work for the day was done and ready to be continued tomorrow. Alexander nodded in accknowledgement that he understood the orders, then caught off guard Gunny's remark about his fall. Pulling the side of his mouth into a sheepish smile, he rubbed the sore parts of his lower back, literay a pain in the ass. "Oh, I appriciate it. Been through worse, so I just hope I wasn't too much of a nuisance for Medic. Now if we're excused, Alexander signing off." He bid Gunny farewell, giving Thalia a friendly look as he made his way out to the hallway. "Got some stuff to sort out, but catch you at dinner? If not, see you around."

All the walking around was slowly but surely paying off, as Alexander's prostethic leg was feeling more and more like an extension of himself, like the leg he used to have. Walking, or somewhat waddling down the corridor at a quickened pace he was, searching for the General for their little plans. He caught the fellow old man as he was locking his door, prompting Alexander to get his attention. "Aeron, glad I caught you before you left. Been a long day, but I'm here as you requested yesterday. Hope I'm not too late to be of help."

Nigel Cooper
Location: Streets of CMB (I4) -> Education Center (M)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nigel had seemingly caught Thana, the wise Athenian keeper of the Hanging Gardens of Mexico Beach, in a moment of mental conundrum. So much he could see from the look in her face as he'd asked her what he thought was a simple and rather regular question. That was perhaps why he watched her fight that inner tug-of-war, reaching for an answer to the most mundande of questions, while they all were in a time most certainly anything but mundane. For a moment felt as if he'd over-stepped his limits of questioning, rethinking the question as if to ask himself that and coming to the conclusion that he wouldn't have been able to answer it either! Had he been wrong in asking her, and had she been offended by his viperous tounge?

The chuckle that emminated from Thana's lips, however, told him otherwise, allowing him to lower his previously raised shoulders as she conceded defeat like a true champion. When she got moving, Nigel followed dillegently like the good assistent he'd been that day. A steward or a servant? He couldn't fault the answer Thana finally gave him, nodding along as she explained what she had actually been doing the past time, or rather the battles she'd fought. "Then your earlier look speaks true the fault in my questions, though I can't blame you really. I'm surprised you managed to pull through getting back on the road, from what you've told me. But, if this is your first night off, better spend it well then?"

Nigel didn't know what she would have liked to do during a night off, seen as tending to the plants was a day-time job. Perhaps he could suggest something, though from what little he'd gathered so far, she'd probably want to spend that time with someone special. No, Nigel would probably meet some new faces if and when he'd attend his activeties…which weren't on the board. Odd. A simple trick of entertainment by the powers that be, or…well, something else logical?

He didn't have much to say, simply following her into the Education Center's interiour after the two elders had passed safely discussing the Plauge of the 1340's, not one of Nigel's favourite subjects but something he'd read his fair share about. Personally the Justinian Plauge was of more interest. The cool air hit him like the projectile of a Roman siege weapon, just as it had done so every single time he'd entered a building the past week. Another thing hitting him was the wall of sound blasting from down the hall, accompanied by Maddoc storming off like a storm past the Pillars of Hercules. Nigel gave a confused look to Thana, slightly concerned at his outburst. Thana seemed collected though, and so he was motioned forward to approach the Professor. "Thanks, might need it. Last time we spoke, she asked some complicated questions about Rome and myself." Nigel said quietly to Thana, before taking a final breath and entering her domain.

Nigel knocked on the wall as he approached, signalling his approach like he knew his own professors preferred it. "Professor, may I have a moment of your time?" he asked carefully, feeling like a school boy again and not the sweaty man he'd become that day. "I was just wondering about the sign up papers, some of which were missing from the board? I'd like to sign up, but I am ill-prepared for how the procedures work here, filing paperwork included…"

It was a very straightforward approach to keeping prisoners. Limited contact, no help, let God (or Darwin, either one) sort things out past basic care. Ash had heard from Mizrahi what had happened to Hunter, and knew that he'd be in here. It was still a little bit of a surprise to see the younger man behind bars in this place. Strangely, seeing the blood and brain matter on the floor was less of a shocking thing than he might have assumed. Be that as it may, he did release half a breath that he didn't know he was holding when the explanation of how the mess was made came out. For all of the familiar structure and benefits of CMB, he was still a little wary. Full trust would come with time. For now, his two mandates were to clean and stay away from the other cell. He could do that. "Yes sir," he said evenly to Cage. Best to get this over with quickly.

Ash wasted no time in getting the cleaning supplies to bear as Cage was leaving the room. He had already taken a knee for purposes of getting to the spattering of gore on the floor in front of them, but hesitated. Hunter had things to say, apparently, which struck him as odd considering the situation. Still staring in Hunter's general direction, Ash looked like he was weighing options of saying something, but decided against it with a small shake of his head. This wasn't his problem. He wasn't a counselor and he wasn't a commanding officer; this man wasn't family by blood, choice, or circumstance. Hunter was not his responsibility.

Insomuch as he appreciated Ted's offer for a smoke purely as a polite gesture, it was never one of Ash's vices. He declined with a wave, preferring to stick to work. Then he heard a return of Hunter's general smartassery. And immediately following, a marginally more apologetic word concerning his absence from cleaning duty, followed by what he could only assume were the ramblings of whatever crossed his mind that second. Ash was a stoic, disciplined individual with several years of shooting for the greater good behind him. And while it was probably best to cut this person off and let him drift away on an ice floe of his own making, a different sort of responsibility took hold of his psyche. "Goddamnit, Monroe," he said, sounding a touch more like an officer than befitted his present station, "Do you not know when to shut up?" He rose to stand, but did not approach the bars. "A few minutes of AWOL doesn't land you in the stockades. I'm betting you're in here 'cause of your mouth." His Virginian Appalachia accent was becoming more pronounced as he spoke. Thinking, Hunter's choice of words and the actions around them got him threatened by Ash and others, followed by a full takedown by Beatrice while the locals watched from a distance. Like they were assessing the new blood.

Regardless, he kept expressing his thoughts openly. "Hell, I'm compelled to ask if you're tryin' to get kicked out of here. You have a good thing here, soldier. Damn good thing, and if you pull your head out of your ass for three seconds to get some air, you might see that this place has a lot to offer you. You've got a lot to offer it, too. National Guard, right? You got any idea what a rare commodity military experience is these days? And you landed in the middle of American military remnants. You know how this game is played. You lived it before. Christ's sake, Hunter, these people have the resources to help your sorry ass out as long as you play ball. You even know the rules already." He shook his head more fully this time, continuing, "I don't give a rat's ass about the cleaning detail. I hope this all blows over. I hope they give you a rifle and let you walk the wall eventually. None of that's gonna happen until you stop acting like a petulant child. Apologize. Submit to orders. Go to assigned therapy and work your shit out. Be a useful goddamned person. 'Cause you know as well as I do what the ascending punishments prescribed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice are, and what comes next." That is, if they weren't using a harsher system now befitting the times. "This community might actually need you one day. You won't be here, though, on account of your mouth. You took an oath, once. We're supposed to be better than this. Still can be."

It was more than Ash was used to saying in one sitting, not unlike the story about his fallen friend in the cemetery earlier. He guessed it was just a day for speeches. Whether this one was a rousing call to action or just a series of blahs falling upon ears that didn't want to hear them was immaterial. Having expressed his frustration, he felt a little spent. Like he'd had enough tilting at windmills for the sake of others who couldn't be bothered to help themselves. He let out a sigh and resumed his work. Ash had things to do.

Thalia Carmichael
Location: Administration (A) -> Education (M)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

There was a level of irritation that passed through Thalia as Gunny spoke to her. Condescension was a pet peeve for her, so when a man spoke to her while he was looking through paperwork, it was irksome. Then again, he did look directly at her when he began to address her, deferring back to the contents of his desk as he went into explanation. So really, Thalia mostly stood in confusion. If nothing else, it did reinforce the position that she was a subordinate. What fun. But no, this wasn't too dissimilar from her old position with the Company. She had people to report to. Reflecting, the last five years had really changed her. She could remember how to do this. Thalia was in CMB for a reason; this was part of the deal. In any event, the man wasn't being rude, persay. He looked like the type that had to be gotten used to. Like herself. "Thanks, Boss. See yah tomorrow."

The minuscule conversation with Alexander went in a similar manner, though with him, she spoke a couple extra words. Firstly, she gave a quick twitch of her head, acknowledging his friendly expression for what it was, a minor parting of ways after working a shift. As to his declaration that he needed to sort some stuff out before dinner, she could fully sympathize. She had two issues that she required her attention before dinnertime. "Yah. Same." As to whether they'd meet for the meal, it was a distinct possibility, especially if whatever respective business they each had to do wrapped up around the same time. "I'll be at the Mess Hall aftah a little while."

Thalia had a purposeful stride as she exited the office and walked down the hallway. Yes, food called to her in the way that it always did, but some things had to be handled and this was the perfect time to handle them. As the exited into the lobby, Thalia was actuating the fingers on her prosthetic down into a closed fist, each metallic pinging sound an almost gratifying robotic knuckle-popping effect. She looked to Rolodex, keeping to stride the entire time, and gave her some regard. Odd woman.

She didn't stop when she hit the street, in fact taking to a light jog. That was, until she fully remembered where the Education building was located. She had to sign up for something, hopefully before slots filled up, if that was in fact how things operated there. As she came towards the building proper the front door flung open, both of them, hitting hard against the back stops just as Maddoc stormed out. The doors nearly hit him in the ass as they swung past him, back into place, and out again due to the force he had put behind it. Shoving his cigar into his mouth he chewed it, growling almost, and it became abundantly clear why he was called Maddog.

The sight of a pissed-off older man slamming things about and growling (almost) might ordinarily put most people off, or at least caution them to mind their distance. Not so for Thalia. This was the kind of thing she was used to dealing with as it came to family. It reminded her a lot of her uncle, specifically. And it was that kind of asshole that she needed to deal with. Being direct was her strength, when it wasn't her weakness. And it looked like this man wasn't a fan if "indirect", anyway. "Mr. Martin!" she called, increasing her pace for the final few steps to stand before him. Looking up at him with burning resolve, she half-blurted, "I need to be a soldier. Gunny says talk to you."

The man didn't even stop but his eyes went to her as he stalked closer in a direct collision course. "Fuck, fine, tell Professor Cunt in there to put you on D Roster," he said as at the last moment he side stepped her and went around. "And I want a full psych evaluation from Major, she's on the wall," he yelled back as he turned and started to head east down the road. It wasn't clear if it was cigar that was sending up trails of smoke or his ears.

"Hells yeah," she called back. It was breathtakingly shocking how simple that was. Thalia had expected more to it. She was prepared to yell and stand her ground, defend the fact that she was crippled to the point that rifles were never going to be in her wheelhouse, even throw a punch if needed to make herself heard. But that was over in the space of a handful of seconds. Less, maybe. "Okay, okay," she thought to herself, "Two obstacles. D Roster and a psych eval. Inside here and on the wall ...somewhere." This was her survival strategy. It worked with the Shieldmaidens. It worked with the survivalists. Now that she was physically compromised, she had to adapt yet again. Thalia was actually a little excited as she approached the doors, flinging them open with a motivated lack of fuck-giving spawned of potentially violent optimism.

"Alright..." Thalia said aloud as she entered the Education building. Taking a look around her immediate surroundings, she realized two things: 1) There was a study group present that probably didn't appreciate her entrance, and 2) She had no idea who the hell she was actually looking for. Thalia felt a little stupid, but got over that quickly enough to ask the nearby study group, "Maddog told me to find Professor Cunt." She didn't even get to phrase that in the form of a question before everyone in the group pointed down the hallway at the same time. "Nnn." she responded at a nod. "Thanks." Slower, and with more of a predatory gaze, Thalia turned and began to step down the hallway.

Camp Mexico Beach (General Streets): Things are going smoothly for the most part out in the streets. It is approaching 6pm now. Check schedules for things your character wanted to do or has to do and post accordingly.

Amelia - once she leaves the hospital will be able to get another cart, get it dropped off at Sea Processing without issue. Then get another and head over to the armory. It is locked up tight and there is a buzzer by the door. The cart for the armory has a note that says to get signed off by Armory before leaving.

Nikki will get back to supply and be able to grab another cart. This one is for mechanics and fabrication. She won't make it to M & F this round.

Administration (A): Gunny nodded towards Alexander as his eyes lifted some. "See you at dinner, if not tomorrow," Gunny said in passing before looking back over towards Thalia and nodding as well. He had paper work to deal with as well as the whole situation with Hunter. He was glad the two that were assigned to the Administration Office were at least working out. He hadn't had any doubts about them. His daughter had told him plenty about the group, especially them. He would have been more surprised if they had been problem causers. Seemed the only one causing any real issues was the one person that didn't come in with any group but was alone. Perhaps the reason for that was coming more clear than it had been to start.

Down the hallway the General stopped as he heard Alexander. Turning he looked over to the man and smiled, holding his hand out. "Well if it isn't Mugsy," he said offering his hand out to shake. "Ah yes, I think I have that right. Don't I? My granddaughter had mentioned the callsign in passing." Pulling his head slightly towards the door. "And no, never too late. I was just stepping out for a moment. Care to join me? We can talk details and then I can show you where I was talking about is," he added as his hand fell to the door and he pushed it open.

Stepping out back the sun was bright and the heat hit hard. Aeron walked, leaning against his cane as he went, moving over to a set of picnic tables set up out back along the canal. they had umbrella's open to give shade and there were some large fans set up to help move the air out there. All in all, once seated at a table it wasn't too bad. Looking over at Alexander he grinned as he pulled a pipe out and a lighter. "First though, tell me, how was your first day on the job?"

Hospital/Medical (B): Doc pulled his shirt back down and dusted it off a bit more now that he was sure that nothing had been broken. Looking over to Amelia as she came in and had the cart he seemed to breath a breath of relief. "Angry potted plant, was pissed it hadn't been watered. Attacked poor Lisa here. Was a hell of a fight, tried to eat her whole," he said with a look that was dead serious before chuckling and walking over to the cart.

Glancing at Lisa he rolled his eyes. "I haven't had a girl on top of me since '91 and I had to throw her off of me then too," he said before sticking his tongue out at her. "But hey if it isn't that big a deal you lay down and I'll get SB to sit on you for a while," he added with a laugh before looking over the cart. "Thanks for this, at least Mary will shut up now," he said to Amelia with a smile as he took the cart from her.

Turning slightly he motioned towards Lisa. "She's got you, and once you're done just head out, any problems send Mary to me," he said before he started to push the cart down the hallway. "See ya later and good work today," he called back over his shoulder as he walked down the hallway and turned down another hall out of sight.

Education Center (M): Red pen in hand, the Professor looked like a caricature of a teacher. Marks on the paper in bright red as she corrected papers. She could have easily been the inspiration for the teacher in Raphel's class in the movie a Christmas Story when he was day dreaming about his Theme being graded only to have his hopes dashed away when he received it back, graded, red marks everywhere, a C+ on the paper with a little note: You'll shoot your eye out.

Lifting her head slightly, she looked at him from under the furrowing of her brows but over the flat edge brim of her glasses. "Lists?" she asked before a look of understanding came over her face and she sat up more. "Oh yes, we removed several to update," she said as she turned around in her chair and pulled a folder off a shelf behind her. Opening the folder she thumbed through it before setting it down on her desk.

"Have a seat Mr. Cooper," she said as she motioned towards the chair that was turned on its side in front of her desk. "Now, which class or classes were you thinking about wanting to attend?" she asked as she looked over to him.

Down the hallway, one of the guys glanced over at Thalia and gave her a "Good luck! Yer gonna need it," before saluting her as if she was about to face the last battle of her life.

"Sit your ass down Dummel! Fucking weirdo," a girl added as she grabbed him by the edge of his shirt and pulled him back down into his seat.

Chapel (V): Joaquin glanced over at Nikki and lifted a brow. "Hold thy tongue wench," he warned as he stood up and started to take a step towards her.

"Quin, go inside, I got this," Atticus said jumping in front of the man before he had a chance to jump Nikki. His crooked lips seemed to quiver some in a growl but he relented and cast a glance towards the Padre before nodding. He seemed to give another look towards Nikki, one of warning. Turning, one could hear the jingle clink of the spurs he wore on his boots echoing after each step onto the concrete steps before it went silent as he hit the carpet inside the chapel and the door swung closed behind him.

Turning Atticus let out a slow breath and looked over to Nikki. "Seriously girl, not a word," he said as he jogged down the steps to her and the cart. "Please, not at least until he has a chance to sit down with his sister and talk."

Inside Jail (AA): It seemed neither of them wanted a cigarette. Ted shrugged and lit one up for himself. Neither had said they minded him smoking. At the mention of pot he chuckled. "Yeah, till yer cleared ya can't get a hold of smokables or edibles in this place," he said without a second thought as he held the cigarette between his lips and got to getting his supplies together.

The boy didn't glance back at Hunter as he spoke more. He just laughed a bit under his breath. "Ya know, it's always the squirrelly ones with noth8ing left to loose that are the most dangerous," he added as he pulled on a pair of dish gloves. He was about to say more when Ash pipped in. He stopped, took the cigarette between two fingers and had a deep drag of it. His eyes brows going up a little more the longer Ash went on.

Once Ash was one he half coughed half chuckled. "Haven't heard a rant like that since Maddog came down here to rip Checkbook a new one." Ashing the cigarette in an empty can he shrugged as he picked up some cleaning supplies and stepped into the other cell. "Then again, he wasn't as nice about it." Kneeling down with the cigarette between his lips he picked up the tooth and flung it into a bucket before he started scrubbing the floor.

A small smirk played on Thana's lips as she stood there. It wouldn't surprise her in the least. The Professor wasn't exactly what one would call personable. She wasn't bad but she was hard from what Thana could tell. Then again she hadn't really had cause to deal with the woman a lot. It was more of what she had seen in passing. Sure there were stories she had been told since she arrived in Camp Mexico Beach but like with most things Thana took what she heard with a grain of salt, especially these days. Not having the world like it had been made people find ways to keep from being bored. At least when they didn't have to keep constantly looking over their shoulder for people trying to eat them. Rumors got started easily and Thana always liked to form her own opinion on a person.

Taking a breath she nodded slightly and followed a few steps behind Nigel as he walked into the office. She hung out just at the doorway. Not fully in the room but not in the hallway either. Leaning against the doorjam slightly as she crossed her arms over her chest and waited to see what happened and if Nigel actually needed back up. She doubted it would actually come to that but she figured at least if the Professor gave him hassle she could vouch for the mans work. Sure it was the first day of work and people tended to put their best foot forward on the first day but he had done well, hadn't caused problems, was willing to be directed and learn without push back. Who knew, maybe the fact he used to be a teacher would endear him in some way to the Professor and they could be in and out quickly.

Things seemed to be going well. The woman was talking to Nigel and not sending him straight out of her office. The only thing that seemed out of place was the turned over chair. Thana figured though she knew how that happened considering the way she had seen her uncle storm out of the office just a few minutes ago. If the chair was the only thing that got over turned it had to have been a pretty calm meeting.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This was the best thing that Nikki had seen in a while. The place was down right boring most of the time. Sure it was exciting when she first got there. She had been younger, full of rebel, trying to get to know things, kept breaking the rules even if they were small ones, ended up in jail once. But that was a while ago. Sure there had been other new people since she arrived but they had either worked out quickly or were booted quickly. It would be a day or two of something different. Something to talk about. Then it was gone the way of the DoDo.

Then again Thana had showed up but for weeks it was just a girl in bed sleeping. Then she left. Now, now was different. They had a bunch of new people, one was already in jail, others were dealing, several had to go through therapy, one wasn't allowed in (she really wanted to see the file on him), another left: what for she couldn't figure out. And now, two of the guys that had been here a while were dating? Oh yeah this was good! She couldn't wait to tell people!

But it seemed like fate wasn't going to be kind to her. Joaquin didn't scare her as he said something in gibberish. Well it wasn't gibberish but might as well have been. Why couldn't he just talk normally? She rolled her eyes at him. The padre however took a different approach. Oh that wasn't fair. "Fine..." she acquiesced before popping a bubble with her gum. Turning on her heels she left the cart with him and started jogging back to get the next one. Damn this sucked, she had great gossip worthy news and she couldn't tell a damn soul.

The heat got to her some and she slowed her jog to a walk heading back to General Supply. She was glad to hit the ac of of the building when she did and as she pushed the cart out to take over to mechanics and fabrication the heat hit her again. God she wanted to go dive into the ocean and cool off. Sighing she pushed the cart slowly and headed towards her next destination. Hopefully she wouldn't see anything else she would have to keep a secret over, she sucked at secrets.

β€žI see...” Amelia answered, crafting a metal image of the events transcribed by Doc. It certainly must have been quite the chaos. Lisa herself was a lot less mataphorical about the whole thing it seemed. Still Amelia nodded at them. She was glad nobody got hurt from a fight with a potted plant. Once upon a time she would have considered it funny, but now she had seen somebody die from a garden tool back at the fall of Newnan, so she no longer made light of anything.” Good to see everybody is alright.” Amelia stated, watching Doc leave. She turned to Lisa too.” I will go now, got a lot of things to deliver yet.”

After leaving Medical to it’s curious events, Amelia had hurried back across the street to supply to pick up the next cart. All in all the duties at the end of the day didn’t seem too bothersome as a whole, but she suspected that maybe leaving a bit earlier to deliver the goods would be better as to not rush as she was. Still it was fine for the moment, most destinations were relatively close at hand. As such she soon had the next cart and wheeling it over to Sea Processing. Wheeling it over the street and down to the indicated location, didn’t take a horribly long time and all in all passed without an issue. Finally with another hurried walk back to Supply she had picked up the cart for the Armory.

Amelia pushed it out of Supply and started heading for the Armory supply. After rushing around with carts as she was, granted she wasn’t running, but she wasn’t walking slowly either, she was sweating, especially because of the heat. Still wiping some sweat from her face, she looked at the building she had arrived at. All good so far and then it wasn’t. She tried it, but it was locked. Then noticed the buzzer. She had read the note and knew that this one was a bit more important. She started pressing the buzzer and held it for a good maybe 5-10 seconds, before waiting for someone to show up hopefully!

β€œOhh, by all means, DO so. I’m going to enjoy seeing it happen.” Lisa had replied with a wide grin to Doc. She’d love to see him attempt it, he had said it in a jest, but she could imagine the result if he had attempted to get Mary to do so. She watched him leave though and grinned. As awkward as the event was, it was funny.” Thank you, Amelia. And good luck with the rest of the carts!” She tossed a reply to the girl as well as she excused herself to return to her duties. Well show was over.

Lisa threw a bit of a puzzled look at Manny before she stood up and walked over to him, patting him on the shoulder.” It’s fine. If you want to help, great, but it’s part of my own responsibility so I cannot ditch it on you after all.” She let out a laugh, clearly not minding it as much as she was when she had the planter on her head. Granted her hair and ears still were filled with dirt, but overall she appeared to be in good spirits and the moods for joking.

β€œCome, since you want to help, besides it will show you were the tools are. You need to learn it anyways.” She told him leading the way towards the storage room that held the different cleaning chemicals and tools, picking up a spade and a broom and handing them over to Manny.” Here you carry these, I will bring the bucket, the water bucket and the mop” She told him as she went over to get one of the buckets filled with water and while that was happening she chose which cleaner agent to use.

She of course wasn’t planning to clean the entire ground floor, but the area around the potted plant had to be dealt with, This was a hospital for crying out loud. It might not seem much, just a turned over planter, but her inner pride in her professions didn’t allow her to leave it without doing this properly!

It seemed Lisa was determined to stay. He was more then find letting her go early but she insisted on finishing this and he respected that kind of work ethic from her. Manny did take note of Amelia again passing through medical probably still working her own job for the day. He did find the banter between Lisa and Doc a bit funny as they walked along. It reminded him of simpler times of when he had first started his own dentistry and everyone had to act professional, despite all the jokes and banter that they were doing on a daily basis. He missed those days, but it was nice to see that it was still a possibility now even with corpses deciding they no longer wanted to be dead anymore.

Manny gave a wave to Doc as him and Lisa went for the cleaning supplies. "Alright then. Let's get the evil dirt monster cleaned up." With Lisa showing him where the cleaning supplies were Manny felt confident he could find them again in the future, which added yet another win to Manny's daily achievements. Lisa sorted out the needed cleaning supplies and Many got to carry the broom and dust pan, bowl. On a stick. "So, did you have a fun time while I was gone? Or was that planter incident the most exciting thing today. If so, still a pretty exciting afternoon if I do say so myself." He was hoping it was more exciting then the funeral he went too. He felt odd going today, but he felt like he had to pay respects to the people that died, and their deaths lead to the direct events that made it so he could live.

Once back to where the mess had been made Manny got to work getting as much of the bulk of dirt picked up so mopping could be done. "You know, when I spent all those years in medical school I didn't think I would be cleaning up potting soil as often as I did this late into my career for medical work. Kind of funny to think about, but there are a lot of plants in any doctor's office it seems. I wasn't a huge fan of them, but I had to admit they looked nice. My partner insisted on it so to hell with it, all the plants. Turned into the stereotypical doctor's office right then." He chuckled at that thought. He never got the love for plants in a work place until his husband pushed him for it, then he found himself begrudgingly liking it too. "A little something to "Pretty up the place" he would always say."

Ted lit up his smokes as he informed Hunter getting pot of any kind would not really be possible in that situation. He shrugged not caring too much. HE had only had it once in his life and that was after meeting Pete. Ted did make a comment about nothing left to lose, and Hunter had to admit, he fit that area rather well and could see the connection. Ash though, had more then just simple words to say towards Hunter. As he spoke Hunter sat up to listen to what he had to say and, found himself honestly kind of speechless for a while. He honestly found himself stunned, he wasn't sure if he should take the compliments, confront him with some of his comments trying to justify himself, or if he should try something else.

When Ash was done Ted made his own comments about Maddoc and Nikki, but Hunter was so focused on what Ash said he struggled to take note of it. "Wow... That was. A lot." He stood up off his bed and walked to the bars facing Ash. "To answer your question though, no. I don't know when to shut up. I am quiet when I should speak up. And I scream when I should shut up. For the most part, the latter just hurts me though." He was still unsure how to respond to the rest of the information. The question was something that he at least had thought about for much of the last few years. Even landing in jail here, only really hurt him even if it wasn't needed he land up there should he keep quiet. "You know... you kind of sound like my dad. The last time we talked before I joined. I didn't get what he was saying until I got back from basic, But I think... I see what you're trying to say." He seemed to be visibly struggling with what to say or speak. "Why... Why do you even happens to me? I lost my shit on your friend, I have cussed out people who actually have an understanding of the military and who you'd probably get along with better." He stopped and turned as if looking for his next thoughts.

He took a breath and turned back to face Ash, but was still struggling for words. "I... I have no idea what the fuck I am doing here man. Everyone here is like, "you were military so you get it" but like... My whole fucking career consisted of basic training, and getting deployed to shitty security details in corpse bait city. And like... How well.. do you remember those early days? Where the infected... looked almost... Alive. That was my career, trying to tell them from us. They gave us guns, and told us to keep people in line while keeping the dead at bay. None of it made sense then, and none of it makes sense now." He took a breath and struggled on his words again. His heart racing he tried to finish his thoughts. "I... want to do better. I do. But the military wasn't the way to do it then. And now... this place reminds me very much of what was going through my head as all of that built up. This is like... the first settlement I have come across since this started that wasn't... gone. And I was ready to get better. After how today, last night, and quarantine went. I highly doubt I'll be able to stay much longer Ash. And even less likely that they will ever let me touch a gun if I do stay. And I hope to god you are wrong about ever being needed like that again." He left it at that. He already felt like he talked too much, and was pushing his luck and the patience of everyone around him. Including himself.

The sight of Aeron smiling at Alexander, hand extended out to him as he approached, softened the smile on Alexander's own face. Like a good friend not seen for many years, meeting Aeron had over the week become a pleasent occasion rather than the fear of recognisition had been at first. What he had not expected however, was for the General to use a callsign reserved for a special few. "That…that is correct, just not used to anyone else using it outside of…you know, 'our' group. Much better than what I was called back in 'Nam though." Alexander answered Aeron, accepting his hand and shaking it firmly like the General deserved.

The General was stepping outside for a moment, inviting Alexander to follow after him. "I would like that, yes. Lead the way, General." Alexander followed Aeron outside into the once again scorching heat, regretting leaving the comforts of an air-conditioned building in the time it took for his body to slowly tolerate it. If Aeron could cane his way over to the picnic tables, then so could Alexander on his peg leg. All things considered, sitting under the shade of the umbrellas and looking out over the canals wasn't so bad. Especially in the company of the General himself.

"Aside from both Thalia and I having the luck of a three-legged hare? Yes, it's been a good one. It feels good to do something productive, to give something back to you all. Also thanks for letting us visit the graves, I…we needed to bid farewell to those we lost." Alexander told Aeron, leaning on his crossed arms into the picnic table, looking emptily out over the canals. It had been a good day indeed, all things considered, though overwhelming perhaps. Ups and downs, the start of a new life. Alexander shook himself out of those clouded thoughts, turning back to Aeron with a brief smile. "Just many things to think about, but it has been good. Had the pleasure of meeting some fine people, Rolodex and Medic amongst a few. It's been better than for some other newcomers though, I fear…"

There was something in the air of the office that told Nigel he wasn't welcomed with open arms, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it as he stood in the doorway. It was the same feeling he'd gotten during the Professor's interview with him a week ago, not neccecarily hostile however as if she had somehing much more important to do. Nigel, the former teacher himself, could understand as he saw the red pen she used to mark those papers on her desk. Grading, not one of the occupation's finest tasks. Nigel could attest to that.

Nigel gave the Professor a polite smile as she however invited him in to sit down, explaining to him why some of the lists had been taken down. So far so good, no need for Thana to storm in to his rescue like a well-placed cavalry charge or a deus ex machina on stage to push to plot forward. Sitting down in the turned seat, Nigel turned the chair facing the Professor, folding his hands onto the desk as he prepared his answer.

"Well Professor, I was thinking of signing on for quilting as for classes, assuming the game activities don't fall under those sign ups. I hope I've understood correctly?" Nigel stated his case for the Grammaticus in front of him, though after a moment of soundless breath continued in a careful manner. "Though if I may, what other classes will be added to the lists, seen as they're being updated? Would there be anyhing appropriate for me to attend in your opinion, Professor, having read my curriculum vitae?" Nigel's question was an honest one, him wanting to know if an educated person such as herself saw something else in him, something he couldn't see. Not to mention quilting, as practical as it was, wasn't the most exciting trade to learn.

Ash Holloway
Location: Jail (AA)
Skills: N/A

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The expectation of how the conversation was going to go was different than what actually went down. To his credit, Ash felt like he might have overstepped his position in CMB, that being that he didn't have one aside from pushing a mop. Some instincts were hard to break, and he was ever the Captain, even if the military he belonged to technically didn't exist anymore. But to point, Ash expected this to turn into a bigger piece of drama from which he would have to remove himself, then brood over later on as a mistake initiated by his own sense of self-righteousness. But it didn't. Ash vaguely heard Ted say something comparing him to Thana's uncle, then the sound of the tooth hitting the inside of the bucket. Mostly, he was looking at the expression on Hunter. When the younger man spoke, it took Ash by surprise. He waited quietly until Hunter finished speaking, then nodded with a glimpse of understanding.

There was not an immediate response. Instead, Ash took two steps over to the rest of the cleaning supplies and gathered up a few things. Returning to his original spot, the now tired-looking Sapper continued doing what he was here to do, cleaning the gore from the jail's flooring. As he swept up bits of brain and scrubbed out blood (tasks that might have been strange, even brutally disgusting a few years ago), he started to address some of Hunter's points. Not the least of which was the fact that his first assignment was ...this... He spoke quietly but clearly, letting his voice come from a place of experience. "So you lost your shit. Cussed out folks. Join the goddamned club. We're printin' t-shirts." His Virginian accent stayed with his words, though in a softer tone than the rant before. Ash sighed heavily, shaking his head and cleaning still. "But I don't have to care 'bout you personally to sympathize. I get it. You went through Basic, MOS 11B, Infantry (if I'm correct)? Break you down, build you up, make you feel invincible. It doesn't stop that first assignment from bein' scary as hell, and your first one's the goddamn end of the world. War of attrition against our own Dead. Folks we played cards with yesterday. People we passed on the street. At first, they just look like they're really sick an' need our help. But if you don't pull the trigger, you're a dead man. Or worse."

Ash straightened up from where he was kneeling. With gloved hands, he carefully squeezed red-tinged water and cleaning solution into the bucket and returned to scrubbing. He also returned to speaking. "I remember when it started to get really bad. Communication went down. Dead began to outnumber living. I saw the Army break into factions and turn on each other. What you stepped into wasn't the military anymore, Hunter. It was a bunch of scared men an' women in green with access to automatic weapons, didn't know a damn thing 'bout what was goin' on around them. What they got here? That's a little more what it's supposed to be like. Now, I don't know what shit you did to make it up to this point. We all had to do the worst things just to survive. I know I did. If I didn't have people around me that I trusted, loved, that had my back? Well, I've seen the dark places a man can go. I considered eating a bullet a couple of times an' I've taken more lives after than I ever did in the Army. I can sympathize 'cause I know where you're at. You're lost."

Blowing out a sigh, Ash rose from his position and inspected the floor. He grabbed a mop and wrung it out, then slapped it to the floor with a wet splat, eager to finish up. "Well congratulations. You pulled the trigger. You survived. You have to fight just to do that. But if you only survive for yourself, you're going to stay lost. Yeah, you had a bad day. Your week wasn't so hot, neither. Pissed off a lot of folks, me included. You aren't dead, Monroe. You're not done yet until you give up." Ash finished mopping up and started to put his supplies back, continuing, "Look, I'm not saying we're going to be best buds or nothin'. But I hope you'll be here after you get out. That's still partly up to you." Ash shrugged. "I think." He shook his head, waving a thought away. "You're still around after this, I'll tell you about the shitstorm I was in when this started five years back. Maybe you'll sympathize."

Ash looked over the job, cleaning up bloodstains and bits of a dead guy he'd never met, and over to Ted. "We good here?" He had places to be, but doing a good job was priority. Developing a reputation for work ethic was an important first step for Ash in this new community. So after assessing for himself, he wanted to get the opinion of the guy who'd been here for longer.

"Dummel," remarked Thalia, as if committing the name to memory. Not that she was, though it might seem that way to an onlooker. Just a minor habit of thinking out loud, and at that moment she was thinking that the guy gave her another clue as to the general persona of this professor she was looking for. Perhaps she shouldn't have paused to size the guy up, or tilt her head ever so slightly to the side to do the same for the girl who pulled him back down to his seat, but what was done was done. It seemed surreal, like a slice out of her life back in college. It gave her the vaguest impression of a group of people who forgot what was lurking outside of their walls; threats both living and deceased. For all she knew, these people were the elite future of Camp Mexico Beach and she was just some asshole who recently sullied their hallowed home with her presence. Whatever. Didn't matter. She had a series of tasks to complete and this kid throwing her a smartassed salute wasn't going to damage her calm.

Thalia resumed her pace down the hallway. It seemed a little too easy, just putting one foot in front of the other to reach an objective that lay in a obvious direction. She tried to keep her expression blank and allow her eyes to search for names or anything else of the like on signs or doors, but quickly abandoned the idea after honestly wondering if the name she was given was going to actually be a callsign utilized in a a place where kids learned. At least Thalia had the decency to keep from saying it out loud and the carefully trudged down the hallway. That was, right up until she caught Thana leaning against the door frame, down the hall a ways.

Carefully and quietly, Thalia approached her friend, "Hey Navy. Real quick, your tio Maddoc sent me here to find una Profesora CoΓ±o." She knew that Thana had a good enough read on Spanish and figured that it would soften the message as well as carry the proper intent across. That, and it sounded like the worst luchadora name ever.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Camp Mexico Beach (General Streets): Dinner is going on now but it isn't like Lunch there isn't a set time as long as you get in before they are done for the evening. Mostly right now it is the youngest getting their meals with family if they have it or those taking care of them.

On the streets it is getting a tad cooler but not enough to make it comfortable. Sun is still up even if it is setting. Nothing remarkable, just general here to there movement. Shops and main work areas are closing up and heading towards Admin to turn in paperwork they are carrying.

Amelia will be in the Armory Supply this round. Nikki will get to M&F before heading to Electrical. M&F is pretty empty, Mizrahi being the only one left in the area right now and he is under a vehicle working on it. The others have already headed out and are on their way to clean up and ready for dinner before heading that way.

Administration (A): Aeron sat there and listened intently to what Alexander was saying. As he listened, giving the occasional nod or "ahh yes" he pulled out a pipe and jostled the half burned contents with the point of a pocket knife. Pulling out a lighter he took a few puffs and inhaled. He held the smoke for a moment before breathing out. Then he stopped and looked at Alexander. "Ahh, yes well some are having a harder time getting used to things but it happens. Our screening isn't exactly foolproof but we do try."

Looking down at his pipe he seemed tired. "The world now, the world then, everything we had then we have now. Everything that we truly need that is. Save for one thing. Hope." Looking out over the water. "When we were at war we knew it would end. We would either die or live to see the end. We won't live to see the end of this. I doubt the children here will see an end. This is the new normal." Shaking off the thought he looked over to Alexander and smiled slightly as the wind shifted.

The smell of college not tobacco was coming from the pipe. "Oh forgive me, I hope you don't mind." He looked back at the pipe and chuckled. "I don't normally partake but Michael prescribed it, easier to produce than pain medications," he added before taking another 'hit'. Coughing slightly. "I must say it does help though I get a terrible craving for Crumpets and Tea each time." Holding it up a bit he tilted his head to the side. "Would you care to partake?"

Hospital/Medical (B): Everything in medical is going smoothly. It will take about twenty minutes to get everything cleaned up. The plant will need to be repotted and such all things considered and well no matter how good someone is - dirt on a white floor is a pain in the ass to get up. It won't be difficult more as just basically time consuming. The two should finish by the end of this round and be able to head to put things away.

Education Center (M): "Quilting?" That was not the type of class she was expecting for him to request. She gave half a glance towards Thana standing in the doorway yet she didn't say anything to the scarred woman. She did however give her a slight nod of acknowledgement. Looking back over to Nigel she leaned back in her seat. "Lists that are being updated now are for weapons and combat," she said. "The others won't be updated for another few days as we have other matters to attend to, you can look through those when they are done."

"As far as my thoughts I do not know you well enough to be informed enough to make such a suggestion unless you want to sign up for story time and read to the younger children in day care," she added after a few moments of thought. She did have some ideas for Nigel, it was on her recommendation that he would do well in Education. "It depends on what you are looking for. If you are wanting to pursue teaching here I would suggest auditing one of the classes." Setting her pen down she looked the man over a few times. "But you came in here for a reason. Why not tell me what that is." Her eyes darted over towards the doorway again as she heard a voice and her eyes narrowed a bit for a split second before turning her attention back to Nigel, waiting for an answer.

Armory(S): One could hear several clicks happen on the door before it was pulled opened. Bass stood there standing a good half a foot or more taller than Amelia. Looking down he spotted the cart. "Oh hey, come on in," he said as he pulled the door open fully and held it open so she could bring it in.

The building looked like it had been gutted and redone. Floors and walls were bare, plain, concrete now. Walk in cages were set up, thick steel cross hatching allowed one to see what was in each at a glance but not be able to reach through. Doors were placed on each cage area that was secured into the floor and walls. Each cage looked to be about the same size but divided up into different weapons. From pole arms to bows to pistols to much larger took up one full wall. Another was armors of sorts from vests to greeves to shields, Astrids hanging there on said wall. The back was divided up with a door between each side. It was hard to tell at first but one side was ammo and one side was explosives. They had far more firepower than Newnan had had and held it under tighter security.

Panama was sitting behind a low counter that seemed to have been dropped in the center of the room. "Hey girl," he said tipping his hat to her as he stood up. A toothpick was held between his teeth as he stood up. "I'm tellin' ya Bass, you gotta either nut up or shut up about the girl."

"Ain't that the pot callin' the kettle black. Remember how much you whined and moaned about..." Bass started as he let go of the door and locked it back once Amelia was inside the room with the cart. He was cut off though quickly as Panama interjected.

"So I am speaking from experience!" he said loudly. Bass gave him a look that screamed yeah right. Walking over to Amelia, Panama adjusted his belt. "A'right, got the sheet?" he asked as he held out his hand.

Inside Jail (AA): Ted stood there with the cigarette held between his lips and took a long puff as he listened to the back and forth. Just shaking his head he turned around and got to work on the wall. He was listening but it seemed the two were having a moment so he let it be. After listening to Volts earlier while he was cleaning the woman's bathroom he was glad to have a change. Plus he didn't know these two, so this was something new. He grinned slightly as he as he finished his cigarette and put it out in an empty can he had in his supplies.

Leaning back against the wall he nodded toward Ash. "Yeah, we're good but you might as well get comfortable. Cage won't come to check for at least half an hour and if we go banging to open the door he'll make us wait longer. I got stuck in here all night once," he laughed as he slid down and set on the floor. Draping his arms over his knees. "Though tonight might take longer. Detail was pulled for some funeral today, left Cage short handed so he's gonna have to go get his meal," he added with a head jerking motion towards Hunter. "So chances are with the time he ain't even in the building right now."

Thana hung back and waited. It wasn't like she had a lot to do right then. She had to wait for Ash to finish up what he was doing before they saw each other this evening. Granted she did want to get a shower and clean up before dinner. Being in the water had cleaned both of them up some but then walking back to the Greenhouse, being in the greenhouse, being outside in the heat - it made a person sweat - a lot. Not to mention the waters of the gulf liked to kick up a lot of sand into the mix and she could feel the salt sticking to her skin now and drying it out. She really needed to take a shower but that would have to wait.

At the mention of quilting she looked at the back of Nigel's head oddly. It was clear by the expression on her face that she hadn't expected that as well. Last she had heard he wanted to sign up to fight on some level. She didn't know what type of game he was playing but she wanted to see how it played out. Seeing the Professor glance her way she gave a single nod of her head back to the woman. Listening more it seemed like the woman wasn't exactly buying the whole wanting suggestions thing but part of her believed Nigel did want to know what others thought. He seemed willing to learn. She couldn't fault him for that.

Turning her head she spotted Thalia coming over. Her brow quirked at the words before she gestured with a quick motion of her hand towards the woman sitting behind the desk. "That's her," she said quietly, keeping her voice down before taking a step back and over to the wall outside of the door. Let her still hear what was going on but gave her a bit more privacy to speak to Thalia. "They're probably gonna be a few. What ya here to talk to her 'bout? If ya don't care me knowin'," she added as she leaned back against the wall and crossed her arms over her chest. It was Thalia's business but Thana was curious. Especially considering her uncle had apparently told Thalia to talk to the professor.

Getting all the carts moved out of supply and to their various destinations in the camp wasn't going to take near as long as it usually did for Nikki today. All because Amelia was there and helping out. That was at least if Amelia got everything right and Nikki didn't end up having to go back behind her. She doubted Amelia was going to mess things up. This was one of the simplest tasks in the camp. You had a cart, it had a label, you pushed it the place and dropped it off. The most complicated drops at most had to wait for someone to review the cart and then sign off on it. Usually only the Distillery and the Armory needed signatures. Most places were just getting replacement towels or toilet paper so it wasn't any big deal.

Into Mechanics and Fabrication she went. Normally this place took a few. Not because it was a complicated drop but because Volts was usually running his mouth. He seemed to like to do that. Nikki did to and she was slightly disappointed not to see the man when she brought the cart in. She could see Mizrahi's feet sticking out from beneath the vehicle. "Just dropping off the cart," she said as she pushed it over to the space near the door that joined the two main areas of the building. She didn't stick around to see if he responded. She had a hard time figuring out what the man was saying. Not so much because of his accent, which was thick, but because he spoke such broken English half the time he said something she couldn't make heads of tails about.

One more stop done and more to go she thought to herself as she jogged across the street and back over to the General Supply building. Inside she grabbed a cart and noted how many were gone that Amelia must have already taken care of. Seeing the Armory one gone she hoped the girl got the note but didn't stick around to find out. Out the door once again and on her way she pushed it quickly over to the Main Electric. She only had two more stops tonight for this side of Camp Mexico Beach once she finished this one. Then there was heading over to the distillery and the jail. She'd wait for Amelia to do those. They were further out and she didn't want to have to come back.

Amelia mostly patiently waited a bit before the door finally opened. The face she saw, she quickly put a name to it. Or at least a nickname or a codename. It was Bass. β€œ Hello.” She greeted as she carefully pushed the cart in the building through the opened doorway. Place was… weird. At least to her own standards, but then again she wasn’t of military upbringing of any kind. It was what she had decided to just categorize all the weird things she saw her as. Difference in culture… In any case, they certainly had a lot of thought and time invested by the looks of it into the armory.” Hello, Panama.” She greeted back and shut up as the topic moved in awkward for her direction. THAT was NOT something she wanted to listen to.

They didn’t seem to mind her presence as their antics continued, shots being fired about girls… they did realize she was in the fucking room right? In any case, she just looked down at the cart to avoid looking at the men as she heard the door close behind her. So now she was locked in here, great. Wasn’t this supposed to be a quick drop and run task? She was just to take a signature, leave the cart and run, was there a need to do all this? With a quick pondering, she reached the conclusion excessive carefulness and paranoia were the far better alternative to lacking such things!

β€œYeah, it’s here. Here you go.” She replied as she pulled the form where they had to sign for getting the cart in return. Amelia carefully handed it over as she took a look around the place once more.” So… just out of curiosity, my Excali… ahm… my bat is also here somewhere right?” She asked with blushign cheeks.

β€œMmm… I’m pretty sure I got a promotion today.” She stated flatly, having finished getting the water bucket filled and turned to face him.” So while I’m still going to be mostly around to show you how stuff works here and help out, sometimes I won’t be quite as avaible when I’m dealing with the new duties.” She explained. Now that she was going to be working with the samples on the upper lab, things were going to be interesting. Of course she knew she was far from ready to work properly under supervision on that let alone without, but it was fact that she was going to have to be working there under Mary’s orders and guidance. All things considered, Lisa was all for it. It was going to be great!

β€œStill, I’d dare say that indeed, the evil planter, plotting my downfall would be the highlight of the day. Sadly it ruined my perfect mood! AND HAIR!” She added with false anger, pointing at her hair filled with dirt. Luckily the worst of which was now gone, but not all of it. She’d have to take a real good shower and wash her hair more than a few times before it was back to proper state here. The downfall of letting your hair get any degree of length in this world, she supposed. But a sacrifice worth making if you could afford to. One had to have little things to keep their life fulfilling and having the freedom to style your hair if you wanted was at least something, a nice luxury to have.

As they got to work, it was going to be a chore, she realized. Yeah pain in the ass to clean, not hard, just annoying. β€˜Sigh, darn you dirt, my new nemesis, even in defeat you still haunt me!’ She cursed silently in joking tone and it made her feel a bit better. Certainly made her smile. She should have said it aloud, ohh well. β€œ Dunno, doctor offices always felt too sterile for my tastes, probably why they need plants to liven up the mood. Nothing to break the white monotony than a bundle of green, I suppose?” She asked him with a shrug. She actually had no opinion on plants in doctor offices or any kind of office or location really. Unless it was her own home, she wanted none of the plant fiber bastards in her home. Looking after flowers in gardens or other homes was enough.

β€œHey, it’s fine. If it will make you feel better, neither did I expect I will end up cleaning dirt from a potted plant that somehow because of bad luck ended up on my head.” She chuckled.” Pretty sure weirder stuff have happened before too, so I’m not going to mind it too much though and it’s a good way to get a feel for the job properly. Sometimes last minute duties to spring up.”

Still cleaning took maybe 20 more minutes. Acceptable time, given the task at hand, could be worse. They could be also washing carpets…” I think, we are done here.” She finally proclaimed, deciding to give a passing grade on the state of the place. With a deep breath she felt calm and relaxed.” Let’s go leave the tools and head out. I'm starting to get ravenous...”

Cleaning had gone well it seemed. Sure, the dirt was a pain, the remains of the plant put up a fight, but between the two of them they were able to make great time! At this rate they would be able to make it to dinner and still have some time in the afternoon to enjoy some personal time. He still wasn't sure what he would pick up for a hobby once that moment came, but he was curious none the less what the options were now. Hearing that Lisa got a promotion was amazing news! "That does sound like a rather fun day indeed, I suppose that makes em senior boat cleaner now?" He said it with a bit of a laugh, thinking back to the joke he told earlier in the day to Alexander. He was glad that Lisa was also able to poke some fun about the planter situation. Her over the top reaction and mood about it made cleaning go by smoother, and made the afternoon a pleasant experience. As finishing up Lisa had replied to his comment about plants in doctor's offices. "I suppose that makes sense. I never personally minded them. But growing up in an environment that was less then clean, to then move towards perfection clean levels was an improvement to life. So maybe that is a me thing. But I did find the plants nice over time."

He let out a chuckle about cleaning with a medical degree. "I suppose that is a pretty crazy time yeah. Though from my end I didn't mind too much. It's much less stressful then trying to be a head doctor again. Picking between that and this? Ill go this every time." He stopped to think about the implications. Sure, if needed too he would go back into field trauma surgeon mode again. But if he had the option not too, it was a nice break. "So feel free to get your head stuck more often, will keep me out of the O.R. for a while. Until then, we take out strange jobs where we get them and make the best of it."

"So what hobbies do you have in your free time? Do you have a room full of Rube Goldberg machines?" If that was the case, he would have to ask about seeing them someday. Though he had little experience with them himself, he found them fascinating to watch. "Also, do you know if the library is open after hours? Haven't had a good book to read in a while. Seems like a good time to pick up one." Though he wasn't sure if he could take books out, or what all the fine detailed rules were, he had heard there was one and he was excited to see it himself.

With the cleaning coming to an end it seemed like a job well done. Once the job itself was done Manny started gathering the cleaning supplies and doing a final check on the progress that they had made. "Looks like we did pretty good here. Lets get this stuff put away so we can go and get out of here." He grabbed the broom and dustpan which had too many names on a stick and any other cleaning supplies he could get with his hands and prepared to bring them back to the storage location. He wondered where he would find himself in the future. Either working in the library or still holding onto his medical experience.

Hunter found his heart rate calming down, and his thoughts clearing a little bit. The aggravation of trying to sort out his thoughts and ideas had been at the very least cleared up a little. Despite Hunter trying to figure out the best way to describe his thoughts for years on end since the world had fallen, Ash had more or less summed it up for him right then and there. Even getting the idea of what it was like firing off his weapon for the first time out of basic training. Hunter held the bars tight while staring at Ashton while he talked. He found it hard to come up with answers to his questions, even yes or no questions at first. "I... can't remember the specifics of it. But infantry yeah." What Ashton said about his training sounded right, but he couldn't be sure even now looking back on it now. He struggled to remember a lot of those early days. Or the days that came before it. "Can't tell it now, but I was a S.A.W. gunner. One of the biggest dudes on the training group, and could still hold a good pace back then with the full gear. So it made sense at the time. Now? I think I am at like half the size I was all those years ago. Who knew hot pockets had such a short shelf life once the freezers went out." He tried it with a laugh at the end, but it was clearly forced this time.

Ashton gave a pretty simple explanation of what things were like inn his early days. They sounded... Close to his own. But he could hear the differences rather quick in some regards. "Our command structure held. Right until the end when those first few weeks were passing. So we didn't have the... faction split that you had apparently. We just... Followed orders I guess. Even the bad ones." He paused with his thoughts for a moment. "No... I guess we did. But in different ways. It's... complicated." He figured that is what Ash was talking about. Everything about that first month was complicated. The words that connected most were the ones about how it's not really over until you give up yourself. He was stumped at that, struggling to figure out what to say to it. Should he say anything? Should he answer that honestly or give some non committal answer? He struggled to think of how to reply to it, but then it hit him. That wasn't a question, simply a statement and an important observation. So for that, he simply looked at Ashton and said "Okay." What else was there to say to that? The man had given him a lot of information to think about, and it seemed to be all correct so far. Part of him wanted to say he fought for more then just himself, but since he lost Lucy he wasn't sure on that anymore. Ash's logic seemed to fit, better then anything Hunter could come up with at least.

The pause of thoughts gave Hunter time to think about the word Ashton had focused on. Sympathy. He felt like a school kid again focusing on that word. But it was important. Hunter wasn't sure how he felt about it, about getting any form of sympathy, but it felt better then the next closest thing he got from people. "I get it". A phrase he had started to pair with people who just wanted to try and gain trust to abuse it. The way Ashton worded it though, he did get it. He was there in an identical structure in those early days and he did understand. The man even offered to share his own stories, which Hunter was hesitant towards the idea. But maybe it would give him a chance to fully understand what had happened when he got deployed. Everything he did remember from those days were spotty at best. He remembered that he went to the stadium his unit got deployed too, but not when or how he got there. He remembered the fight back into the place, but not how he got out. He remembered returning to his old base, but the details of what happened to the civilian group with them he couldn't bring to the surface. He remembered leaving the base feeling lonely, but not 100% sure what happened to the rest of his unit. Though he had ideas. Maybe a chance to hear what someone in a position like his own had to say about those days could help him clear those thoughts of his. "If I make it out of this, that would be nice." He realized he was able to hold his own speech and train of thought this time. He kept himself calm while he talked and held it together. It felt better this time.

It seemed the cleaning detail of Ted the smoker and Ashton the former Army Captain had more or less finished. He picked up a bit on what Ash said to Ted, and what Ted said to Ashton. Hunter did let out a pretty noticeable laugh at the comment of Cage possibly not being in the building at that point. "God I hope that's not the case!" He was still stuck in thought from before, but his attention span wasn't a strong suit of his. "If that is the case, your warden sucks at his job. And maybe you all should fire him for someone better." Some of the talk was that Cage held the keys to let him out, another part was Hunter had grown to not like Cage and his less then minimum involvement with the prison work to the point of trapping workers that were not even his own in the basement over night, or to leave them trapped with no way out should something like Ted's cigarette catch a flammable. Though he could acknowledge his mouth had gotten himself to this point, he was still frustrated that a man like Cage had any form of power over other people.

Ash Holloway

The interesting, nigh therapeutic conversation hadn't thrown off Ash's sense of timing as it came to cleanup. This was supposed to be a simple job, or as the man who was working security, Ray, had said: "...knock it out real fast." Conversation notwithstanding, that was exactly what they did. Working while talking was possible, especially if information had to be dumped int he middle of a job. Ash was once a Sapper, prone to accomplishing feats of military engineering in the field and oft teaching new men under his command on the job, in real time. So a little heart-to-heart while mopping up human gore was fully within his wheelhouse. Of course, finding out now that it was ultimately a fruitless endeavor because the guy in charge of the location (for whatever reason, legitimate or no) had no difficulty leaving when he knew there was a work detail locked inside. And if Ted was correct in his assumption, it was so the man could go have his dinner in comfort. Ash's face grew stern, though he said nothing.

What that meant was that Ash wasn't going to make it to his next appointment in camp that day. It was not the impression that he wanted to make on his first day. And to be more on the selfish side, he wanted to get that handled so that he might have some quality time with Thana. Ash didn't take Ted's advice and get comfortable immediately. He leaned his head over to one side until a soft popping sound emitted from his neck, squared his jaw, and leaned against the wall nearby. His mask of stone hid the beginnings of profound irritation.

A deep breath in was held for a second or two, then slowly pushed out. Okay, this was the way it was. They were locked in a building that was designed to keep people inside of it. Ash contemplated poking around a bit, using his skills as an engineer to determine if they could get out using a less conventional method of egress, but decided against it on grounds of practicality. This was not something he needed to do on his first day. Or was it? It might even show dedication to his responsibilities and willingness to go to great lengths to fulfill his duties. It was fairly presumptuous of him, however. Before he got to that level of motivation, Ash reminded himself that such acts on his part were better served with tools and/or explosives, things which he did not have access to, and he doubted that the cleaning products were set up to allow for the creation of something truly BOOMworthy. And the more obvious - just because the one guy was an ass didn't mean he had to be, too. Best to leave it alone. It was a fleeting fancy at best.

So far as Hunter's personal revelations went, Ash listened quietly, nodding every now and again as he shared a bit of his history. There were differences. It made sense. People might act differently depending upon their circumstances, and while he wasn't one hundred percent right with his insights, Ash was still surprised to find out that there were enough similarities to keep the heart of his point valid. Concerning the tactless voicing of Hunter's opinion of the jailer, Ash said nothing. He might have put it differently, and he definitely wasn't going to add to it himself, but right at that moment he didn't disagree.

Eyeing the door for a moment, Ash shared a little of his experience, highlighting how it differed. "Before Atlanta fell, our C.O. got himself killed. We got overrun, pulled back to Dobbins Air Force Base. Civilian contractors, Corps of Engineers people, Air Force (of course), regular Army, Atlanta PD, Feds, a few scattered Marines. Everyone thought they had jurisdiction. Fun fact: Combat Engineers can't be ordered off assignment unless it's by the President. So I wasn't listening too hard to everyone else, either." He shrugged. That might or might not have been a mistake on his part, hindsight being what it was. But he and others might not have survived if he did defer to outside authority. He'd never know now. "After a real short time, everyone just started thinking about what was best for just the soldiers under their command. Factioning. No higher orders coming in. Everyone started to compete for resources. I saw what was shaping up. Me and whoever wanted to follow blew town with a truck and as much supplies as we could carry, made for Virginia." Ash nodded grimly. He stopped speaking abruptly after that. It was cruising into personal territory for him, and as much as he wanted to understand what the younger man was going through, it needn't involve what came after. Just as he didn't explain what came before, which was a keystone moment for him. "I guess the world fell apart in slightly different ways for us all, Hunter. Yet here we are." Yes, here they were. Stuck in a jail whether they were supposed to be or not. "How 'bout you, Ted? What were you Before?" It seemed rude to ignore the man, seeing as they were probably going to be stuck down there for a while. He might as well try to get to know his new neighbors a little.

Thalia Carmichael

Having to slow down didn't make Thalia happy. Having to wait on someone else didn't make her happy, either. Come to think of it, apart from seeing Thana alive again, the only thing that made her happy was that clam chowder her first day in Quarantine, and even then it was tempered by good, old-fashioned survivalist's paranoia. To be fair, seeing her brother alive again was nice, too. But she was pissed that the bastard kept himself away for days before telling her that he was even alive. As she gave it some thought, pretty much everything that had made her happy over the course of her time here was tinged with something that pissed her off. Such was life. Hers, anyway.

It was a small relief to know that the subject of her search was just through the door, even if she couldn't pop in immediately. Fine. She could wait a few minutes. Might be nice to have a few minutes to shoot the breeze with Thana, even if their relationship wasn't so much of an "ooh, girl time!" one. Thinking about it, maybe it should be a little. A lifetime ago, Thalia was a Boston girl who got her hair done professionally and had a favorite color of lipstick. So, she carried a tactical automatic knife on her most days and had a 9mm Glock issued to her at work, but damnit, she used to be more feminine. For crap's sake, she still had a thing for My Little Pony. Thalia shook off the thought and narrowed her eyes a little as she mulled over Thana's question, ultimately figuring that it wasn't really a secret in the first place. In fact, she had talked about it openly before. After a moment, she responded, "Nah, it's fine. He sent me in here to get put on 'D Rostah'. I need to get strongeh than this." Her accent was flaring a bit, as it often did when she felt a little emotional. The more helpless feeling of going from a covert, shadowy, dexterity monster that was hell with a short blade to someone who needed to relearn how to peel an orange was not something she wore well. "Unless you know something bettah, this is my only shot." One could just see the start of her eyes misting over, which she tried initially to blot away with her right hand. Unfortunately, that was her metal one. She learned this lesson at the beach party, and stopped short of breaking her nose or putting another fresh wound on her face (the first one was just clotting properly again). Her left took over, dotting one eye and then the other. "Sorry. Been a shitty last five years."

But Thana would know all about that. Thalia looked at Thana's scars, then to her own metal hand which replaced the one she was born with. They had been through some trials, that was for sure. It showed on them more than most. But in Thalia's opinion, it did look pretty badassed on both of them. "Yah know Navy, the apocalypse versions of us would make bitchin' action figures. Just saying."
