Thought about Green Lantern and decided against mainly because of space stuff. Not a big fan of all the space stuff.
So, I'm typing up a Green Arrow CS that will draw inspiration from the two sources I'm most familiar with at this time. The plan I have for the character has him being a sorta vigilante/superhero/social commentator.
There will be no mention of Roy Harper or any version of Black Canary in my CS.
I know I have a habit of showing interest in these RPs and then not joining, but I'm feeling good about this one. I hope to have my application up by tomorrow night.

Star City - Situated on the upper coast of California, Star City is a particularly picturesque metropolis, and one of the United States' greatest tourist traps. Unfortunately for residents and traveler's alike, this makes Star City a hub of drug smuggling, black market weapons trading, human trafficking, and all other manners of criminal activity. While Orchid Bay and Downtown are effectively drowning in opulence and sophistication from the money brought in from naval trade, the neighborhoods of the Glades, South End, and Adams Heights, affectionately referred to as "The Triangle" by townspeople, are the center of Star City's criminal underworld, and susceptible to constant gang warfare and corruption. The majority of Star City's local drug producers operate out of Lamb Valley.
Robert and Moira Queen - A classic tale of the self made billionaire marrying his high school sweetheart, one could make a movie about the story of romance between Robert and Moira Queen. Having met during their freshman year at Star City High, the two married almost immediately after Robert's graduation from college. Robert, a ruthless businessman, took his father's relatively small computer business and turned it into a multi billion dollar technology empire spanning the entirety of the United States within two decades using every underhanded play, every dirty trick, and every bullying technique known to man. Naturally this garnered him an abundance of enemies. Moira remained blissfully ignorant of her husband's crimes and peacefully took her place as a fiercely protective and doting mother.
The two would die some seven years apart, Robert committing suicide to ensure their son's survival, and Moira being murdered at the hands of Cupid, a deranged psychopath obsessed with Oliver's alter ego, the Green Arrow.

While he still occasionally operates as a bodyguard, Digg's official title is "Queen Industries Security Adviser", which is to say Ollie pays him to be a sparring partner and make rare trips to the office to check up on the security systems.

The man who would become Green Arrow shared a brief romantic fling with the damsel he had saved from Fyers' clutches, and unbeknownst to the Emerald Archer, Sandra became pregnant with his child.

Eddie Fyers - The field commander of the mercenary group stationed on Lian Yu, Edward Fyers used Lian Yu as a Mecca for drug operations and slave labor. Whether an inmate or a castaway, Fyers never let a resource go to waste. Fyers often employed the prisoners of Lian Yu to bolster his own staff in exchange for a bed and warm meals. A vain man from birth, Fyers didn't do much to stop some of his men's more barbaric practices on the Island. His operations exposed by Oliver, the Chinese government has taken it upon themselves to handle Fyers and his company.
Lawrence "Crusher" Crock, Sportsmaster - A former small time crook and assassin for hire, Lawrence "Crusher" Crock was exiled to Lian Yu by the League of Assassins for taking a contract that belonged to them in order to send a message to their competitors. Seen by Ollie as nothing more than a corrupt politician using his skills to pay his way into office, Bolt and Arrow reached an agreement; leave the criminals to GA, leave the politics to Thomas Bolt.
Malcolm Merlyn, the Dark Archer - A central figure in Star City's hierarchy, Malcolm Merlyn was seen as a poor man's Robert Queen, just as ruthless and cunning, but only made a half of what his contemporary managed with less resources and time. For reasons unknown Malcolm left California in his teenage years and early twenties. Eventually, Malcolm would marry Robert's widow Moira before her untimely death. A central figure during the Undertaking, Merlyn was exposed as the Dark Archer but escaped capture.
Noah Kuttler, the Calculator - A wealthy investment banker and accountant, Noah Kuttler operates an abundance of extortion rackets and oversees a number of Swiss Bank accounts under the guise of "The Calculator". A genius mathematician, Kuttler has been able to find a way around almost every loophole without a second thought, all from behind a computer monitor. After Green Arrow's interference in his schemes, the Calculator has begun using his massive funds to hire killers to apprehend the vigilante.
Ricardo "Junior" Diaz, Richard Dragon - An as of yet unseen former student of Richard Drakunovsky, Ricardo Diaz murdered his teacher and took his name for his own. A human weapon, Diaz is one of, if not the greatest hand to hand fighter and martial artist on Earth, retaining an uncanny ability to read his opponent's movements and find any weakness in a person's body and exploit it with deadly proficiency.
Werner Zytle of Vlatava, Count Vertigo - Currently rotting in a prison cell, Werner Zytle conspired a bloody rise to Kingship by ordering the assassination of his elder brother and only niece with the assassins posing as American extremists. When Perdita returned to Vlatava to claim the throne, Vertigo made to execute her himself and take power by force. Thankfully however, Vertigo was undone by the Emerald Archer.
Simon Lacroix, Komodo - Born into poverty in the Glades, Simon Lacroix is a self-made man who ended up working as the personal assistant and confidant of Robert Queen. To Robert, Simon was everything Ollie wasn't. By that time Ollie had already fallen into constant fits of partying, recreational drug use, and underage drinking. The son he never had, Robert would give Simon the head start he needed to launch Lacroix International.
Isabel Rochev, the Queen - Born in a small village in eastern Russia, Isabel Rochev was inspired from a young age by Robert Queen, who had a number of mines built in the mountains around her home, which caused her village's economy to flourish. Eventually becoming a personal intern for Robert while still in business school, the Queen Patriach began an extramarital affair with his young assistant. Her internship was later terminated without notice. Holding a grudge against the Queen family, Rochev would become the primary business partner of Simon Lacroix at Lacroix International.

Daniel "Danny" Brickwell, Brick - Star City's most prominent crime lord due not only to his namesake skin, but for his ruthless efficiency and almost impossible feat of taking control of the Triangle, Danny Brickwell was a victim of his environment and thrived in the criminal underworld following his father's termination from a Queen Industries factory in the Glades.
Carrie Cutter, Cupid - A former romantic conquest of a young Oliver Queen who volunteered for an expedition to locate the Queen's Gambit. While at sea something changed in Cutter, and she is now certifiably insane, with an absolute obsession with Ollie after the news of his return. After taking Thea and Moira Queen hostage in their own mansion in an effort to become closer to Oliver, Carrie, then operating under the name "Cupid", was shocked to discover that Oliver was the Green Arrow. Following the murder of Moira Queen and her subsequent capture, Cutter has been placed in the Haven Security Village for the Insane.
The White Lotus Triad - Formerly led by Zhishan, the White Lotus Triad almost imploded when their leader was killed by Steelclaw. Dazed and confused, the Triad was all but wiped out by Brick during his war with Green Arrow. During this time, Chien Na Wei came to power within the order and quickly began recouping her loses. Back to full strength in just under a year, the White Lotus has taken a position of power, rather than in the lower class areas of Star City, but within Orchid Bay and Downtown.

Diana was never born. Her first memory was of washing ashore an island paradise, swaddled in a bloodied cloak, as all Amazons before her. They raised her to be a warrior, taught her of their Patron Gods, and warned of the dangers of the outside world. Through skill at arms, a head full of wonder and a golden heart she earned the respect of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, who took Diana as her daughter and heir. For all her life she knew only the peace and plenty of Themyscira. Yet, for reasons even she couldn't understand, she yearned for more. She yearned to know what lay beyond the sea, beyond the horizon she had watched since she was just a little girl. The gods granted her a chance when a hulk of burning steel came falling from the sky, depositing bodies onto the very shores she was 'born' on.
Only one man survived the plane crash: its pilot, an American soldier by the name of Steve Trevor. He told his rescuers- and captors- of the world beyond the sea. He told them of an apocalyptic war put on by a mad tyrant, bent on conquest and genocide. He told them that if this man succeeded, even their island hidden in the mist could be under threat. The queen, calling on the wisdom of Athena, knew what ought to be done. A champion ought to be chosen to carry the survivor home, to defeat this terrible foe, and to be Themyscira's bridge to the mortal realm. Athena chose Diana as her champion. She would be granted boons of power by each of the Patrons to aid her in her quest, though they came with a mighty cost: An oath that Diana would never return to her home of Themyscira.
She would enter the world in October of 1941, joining the Allies in their fight against the Axis powers. Diana would fly alongside the Blackhawks, shake hands with the one they called Steve Rogers, and mistake Captain Marvel for a demigod. She would go toe to toe with beings of unimaginable power and cruelty. She would bear witness to the worst- and even the best, at times- of what humanity had to offer. It was also when her exploits caught the attention of international press, who chose the curious moniker of 'Wonder Woman' for her. It became a part of her.
Victory came and went, but the work was never done. Diana would follow the survivor, Steve Trevor, back to his United States and make a life with him there. She would begin her advocacy not only for Themyscira, but also for peace, and for other beings like her that the world often misunderstood. An embassy would be opened in Washington, D.C. The Amazons would be granted Permanent Observer status the United Nations. And her new, curious role of superhero would continue to grow in scope and importance. Life was hard, but it was good.
Things deteriorated as time went on. The Cold War would ramp up and her diplomatic presence would be met with more and more hostility by every side, her neutrality brought into question constantly. Metahumans were viewed with distrust or outright hostility. Many of her friends would retire in anonymity, putting down the cape and cowl after so much public pressure. On top of it all, Trevor's health was deteriorating. After much deliberation, Diana chose to retire, too, so that she might spend the last of her love's life with him in peace.
Decades passed in lonely isolation before Diana saw a golden messenger descend from the sky, grave news clutched in his fist. Hippolyta, her mother, had passed suddenly, and she had not named another heir since Diana had left. Themyscira was in chaos and Olympus was divided. Some of the Patrons were beckoning her to return despite her oath, while others still warned of the dire consequences. Diana didn't care. The world of man had little left for her, and the Amazons were in need- she would return home, Gods be damned.
Queen Diana of Themyscira has ruled for just under five years and already she's made many a radical change. She has established normal relations with the governments of mankind, allowing a trusted circle of Amazons to go and leave as they see fit, and even allowed choice outsiders to visit paradise. She's even begun her work as Wonder Woman once again, joining the Justice League to help defend Earth from threats too powerful for any one hero to handle.
Yet for all the appearance of prosperity and stability, there is stirring in the pantheon. Daggers move in the shadows of Olympus. The Patrons are weakened, divided, and their rivals seek to take advantage of Diana's broken oath. Poseidon and Hades bicker over the Abyss- that dividing line between the ocean and the underworld. Deimos, Phobos and Eris clamor for the release of Ares. And Zeus, Skyfather and the mightiest of all the Gods, turns his jealous eye toward other pantheons of Earth.
C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:
I wanted to take advantage of the timeline of this game and went with a more mature version of Diana with a long history and a lot of lore I can draw from. She's seen everything from WW2 and the golden age of capes to the Cold War and the rejection of metahumans by the public, and those experiences will shape her characterization: Diana is more skeptical of people, she yearns for a return to an age of heroism, and she's more pragmatic in her application of violence. But, critically, she hasn't given up on her core principles. She still believes a better world is possible, only now she knows it is a road not easily traveled.
One of my main inspirations for this version of Diana was Wonder Woman's Rebirth run by Greg Rucka and a few others. I intend to incorporate more mythological aspects of her lore than the traditional superhero bits, though I hope to touch on those as well. She is one of the twelve major Gods of Mount Olympus and the principle architect of the rebellion against the Titans- when the Olympians' toppled the tyrant Gods that came before them. Through her sheer brilliance and no small amount of politicking, Athena had risen to be the favored child of Zeus, second in his eyes only to his wife, Hera. Recent events regarding her champion in the mortal realm, Wonder Woman, has eroded much of the respect she once held. Athena is the defacto leader of the Patrons.
Demeter:Goddess of Earth, Fertility and Harvest, her symbol is the cornucopia. One of the six Gods of the first generation and a major God on Mount Olympus, Demeter is said to have bestowed agriculture to the primordial men. She is said to care little for the goings on in the godly realm, preferring to walk among the forests and fields of the mortals, granting secret boons to those that show her kindness. It is said her shifting mood reflects the changing of the seasons. Like her niece Athena, Demeter is one of the Patrons of the Amazons.

Steve Trevor: Steven Howard Trevor was a Captain in the USAAF and a fighter pilot in the Second World War. He crash landed onto the hidden island of Themyscira, home of the Amazons, and was the first man to ever set foot on its shores. Trevor would go on to introduce Wonder Woman to the outside world, joining her on her adventures for the better part of his life. Time and his less-than-safe lifestyle would catch up to him in the 70s, when his health deteriorated so much he couldn't walk thirty feet without assistance. Diana would retire to live out the rest of his days with her, and the two would finally have the wedding they always talked about. He would die peacefully, with the love of his life at his bedside.
Cassandra Sandsmark: The second Wonder Girl. I'll be leaving this blank so she's available for anyone who wants to play her, but she is canonically active and did serve as Wonder Woman's sidekick after Donna Troy.

She is often one of the first people Diana will confide in when she's seeking advice, and she has a reputation as being closer to the Patron Gods than many of her sisters. Some have said she even experiences visions similarly to the oracles, though Castalia fiercely denies such rumors.
Artemis: Artemis is a fierce warrior and capable leader, and was once a member of Themyscira's sister island of Bana-Mighdall, though it was abandoned after Diana united their two peoples. Artemis is often regarded as the voice of the Bana sect as she is one of the few Amazons willing to stand up to Wonder Woman and speak her mind. This attribute has earned the respect of Queen Diana, and Artemis is privy to secrets and invited to meetings of great import that few other Amazons even know about.
Io: Io is the master blacksmith of Themyscira's forges, overseeing the creation, mending and recycling of the Amazons' weapons and armor. She forged the tools that built Themyscira's greatest wonders, and created weapons that even Hephaestus himself has complimented. Io and Diana grew up together, and the two of them became the closest of friends- more than that, too, on occasion.
Penelope: Penelope is one of the Oracles of Themyscira, whose visions from the Gods have shaped the direction of their civilization and warded off great perils countless times. She and her sister oracles live in relative isolation in the temple to the Gods, perched atop the island's tallest peak, for fear of their constant prophecies driving their sisters mad.
Philippus: Philippus is the High General of Themyscira, leading them in all matters of war, conflict and defense. She was once the lover of Hippolyta and something of a second mother to Princess Diana, having played a hand in raising and training the girl to be the warrior she is today. Her experience with the sword and in battle are second to none, and she is given full reign to lead the Amazons to victory in times of open conflict. She acts as Diana's second and her closest advisor.

The Mediterranean
Nighttime
The king in the heavens wept, and the sky wept with him. His brother under the ocean, distant as he was, must have shared in the Sky God's grief, for the sea churned with equal power. Together they formed a tempest that could sunder steel and sink even the mightiest of vessels. Yet still a figure braved the storm. They were but a shadow against waves four hundred feet tall. Wind strong enough to sheer flesh from bone kicked and battered against them from every angle. Streaks of lightning colored the air, a few passing mere inches from their skin. They continued undeterred.
Diana had faced worse than this storm.
She had spent three days and three nights catching German shells at the Ardennes, tossing them away or letting them explode in her arms to spare the rangers huddled underneath her. She had dived into the blazing river Phlegethon to rescue a wrongly accused soul from the depths of Tartarus. Alien and leviathan alike had challenged her guardianship of Earth, each just as much a failure as the last. She was Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman; no sprinkle of rain nor unruly surf would deter her.
She flew through a wave headed right for her, boring a person-sized hole in its surface, never so much as flinching. The speed of Hermes would not be undone by even the power of Poseidon, it seems. She had traveled a great distance to get this far, and she'd met nothing like this before. That must've meant she was close. Just a little further, now...
Another bolt of lightning was hurled down from the clouds, and she felt her heart skip a beat. Her body reacted, dancing to the side as its clutching, electric fingers narrowly missed her. Diana had never seen colors so brilliant, so vibrant, as that of lightning a hand's breadth from her face. She had hoped the storm was evidence of the Gods sharing in her grief. That they saw the death of one of their oldest, most devoted servants and wept as terribly as she had. That was naive, and Diana was a fool to not see otherwise.
No natural lightning could hope to touch one as quick as her.
'You were aiming at me, Father, weren't you?' The thought came with many an emotion: Fear at having attracted the wraith of her Gods. Hurt that Zeus would ever wish to harm her. Some tiny token of pride at having avoided the aim of the Skyfather. She wondered if some part of him was proud of her, too, at having come so far. There was a time when she couldn't catch an arrow. Lifetimes had passed since then. It was so long ago, now, those memories...fragments, more like a dream...
She pressed on despite all she now knew. On she went, despite whatever the consequences may be.
The roar of the wind was deafening. It reverberated like the enraged scream of someone none dared to disobey. The thrashing torrent carried no words yet its meaning, and the voice that spoke it, was all too clear. She knew who she dared to defy. His brother below her was no calmer, unleashing his rage in spouts of water that crashed against her chest, trying to knock her off course. If Diana fell from the air and into the waves, she knew she was done. No power on this earth could challenge Poseidon in his own oceans. It took all her strength to keep course.
"I have to do this!" She screamed into the wind until her throat was raw. "You must know that, damn you!"
Her people had not lost a queen in three thousand years. Hippolyta's rule was all many of them had ever known. General Philippus could keep the peace as regent for a little while, perhaps, but there was one fact that could not be ignored: another heir had not been chosen since Diana left Themyscira near eighty years ago. There wasn't an alternative. No records to dig into to find a distant niece or a cousin. No council to hold emergency election. The queen of the Amazons was never meant to die.
Mist rose up from the horizon. The pouring rain obscured it, but there was no mistaking it: the mist that shrouded her home from eyes that were not meant to see. It was not a simple trick of sorcery that hid that isle, either, but the will of the Gods themselves that made it so. Even with Zeus and Poseidon against her, Diana could see the mist. That must've meant something, right? She could not lay eyes on it unless some force in the heavens allowed it.
'I am Princess Diana of Themyscira, daughter of Hippolyta and heir to the throne of the Amazons. In the mortal realm, I am called Wonder Woman- a hero to all and champion peacemaker. My actions this day will earn me another moniker. One that will stain my very soul until the day I pass on into Hades's embrace...'
Diana was forbidden to return to Themyscira. An oath had been made before God and Amazon alike. An oath, at the time, she had every intention of upholding.
'...Oathbreaker.'
But she was no oracle. She could not have foreseen what was to come. Things had changed, and the Amazons needed Diana now more than ever. The island's location was supposed to be lost to any who left its shores; that was the power of her promise. It was a promise every Amazon who'd ventured forth had made. Even the Gods who chose to visit had made their own oaths before the Patrons to ensure paradise's safekeeping. The Patron Gods knew there were too many who would see paradise destroyed if even so much as a memory could lead them to Themyscira. For decades, Diana thought herself afflicted with this curse as well. It wasn't until Hermes landed at her doorstep that the dreams started. The dreams where she would sore back to her home on the wings of an eagle...

C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T
"The Gods barely bother with Man's World, even though they could benefit the most from their wisdom and strength. I suppose I'll just have to be the one to help in their stead."
Princess Diana of Themyscira is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and the God Zeus. Gifted with the training of the amazons and the blood of the gods, Diana became an exceptional warrior from a young age. Pleased with her growth, the god Zeus and goddess Hera decided to test the young princess with various trials and tasks. These tasks often included the subduing or slaying of mythological beasts and creatures.
Diana came out on top each time and soon Zeus was satisfied but Hera continued to command the princess with the most difficult tasks she could find. After a while Diana realized that Hera was merely trying to kill her off, as the mere sight of her filled her with wraith, as Diana was another reminder of Zeus promiscuity and infidelity. To remove herself from the gods' direct influence, for at least a short time, Diana decided to leave Themyscira. Her opportunity came when a man named Steve Trevor was washed on shore from a plane wreck.
Learning about what would be known as World War II, Diana used Ares as an excuse to take Steve Trevor back to the military and to get involved in the strange world of man. While she did indeed find Ares' hand in the affair he was hardly the primary instigator and was just taking advantage of the situation. Even if he was only fanning a few flames, she fought Ares and drove him back to Olympus. She stayed afterward to help Steve Trevor on his assignments to help end the war as quickly as possible.
Diana returned to Themyscira soon afterward but the connections she forged and the drive to help not just her own people and the gods, but also the people of man's world remained with her. Diana would find herself frequently visiting the outside world, often using Steve as her main contact, and would frequently find herself involved in matters there.
Hera, frustrated with the fact that Diana had managed to best every opponent sent her way decided to start looking elsewhere for an enemy that could strike the demi-god down. Sensing the alien and destructive power of Starro, Hera guided Diana toward a confrontation with the alien. Diana quickly realized that alone she was outmatched by the alien and retreated to later regroup with the Justice League to defeat the monster.
Becoming a founding member of the Justice League, Wonder Woman was also there for the Chitauri attack and lends her might from time to time; however, her own duties back home keep her rather busy. The world continues to change and Wonder Woman will have to change with it.

Steve Trevor – Pushing a hundred-and-eight, Diana still visits him from time to time and to exchange stories. Due to their relationship Steve is still considered a good contact for getting in touch with Wonder Woman.
Queen Hippolyta – The immortal queen of the amazons she was 'blessed' with a daughter by the god Zeus and raised Diana as a proud Amazon warrior and servant to the gods. She is concerned with Diana's 'other' activities and likes to remind her of her heritage and responsibilities as Princess of Themyscira. As a mother, she is secretly proud of all her daughter has accomplished.
Zeus – Current head of Olympus, Zeus is know for his lightning bolts and his intense drive to sire children all over the place, much to his wife Hera's disgust. As Diana's father, Zeus takes a mostly hands off approach, leaving it mostly to Queen Hippolyta but does occasionally stick his nose into Wonder Woman's business when it suits his purposes. Frankly he is most interested in his own pursuits than that of his daughter.
Hera – Goddess of Mount Olympus and wife of Zeus, Hera holds a grudge against any woman that Zeus has been with and despises what she considers to be his 'illegitimate' children, such as Wonder Woman. As one of the gods with the most influence Hera is pretty much free to do whatever she wants, but will back down when directly confronted by her husband, but that hardly ever happens. Since Hera is in essence her mother-in-law, Diana tries her best to serve her despite Hera's obvious disdain of her.
Mala – One of Diana's closest amazon friends, they played a lot together as children and often competed with each other. She is not quite sure what to make of Diana's adventures and while urges caution, still tries to support her as much as possible.
Ares – God of war and Diana's half-brother. Unlike Diana is a full-blooded god and has the arrogance and selfishness of one. As a instigator of conflict he is constantly at odds with Wonder Woman who wishes for peace. Because his is a son of Hera, that also creates even more friction between the two.
Queen Hippolyta – The immortal queen of the amazons she was 'blessed' with a daughter by the god Zeus and raised Diana as a proud Amazon warrior and servant to the gods. She is concerned with Diana's 'other' activities and likes to remind her of her heritage and responsibilities as Princess of Themyscira. As a mother, she is secretly proud of all her daughter has accomplished.
Zeus – Current head of Olympus, Zeus is know for his lightning bolts and his intense drive to sire children all over the place, much to his wife Hera's disgust. As Diana's father, Zeus takes a mostly hands off approach, leaving it mostly to Queen Hippolyta but does occasionally stick his nose into Wonder Woman's business when it suits his purposes. Frankly he is most interested in his own pursuits than that of his daughter.

Location: Themyscira, Arena - Early Morning
Issue #1.01: The Princess of Themyscira
The sun was still quite low on the horizon, but enough to bask the island in its golden glow, like the comforting embrace of the god Apollo. The Amazons enjoyed its warm glow as they eagerly a scene of entertainment they had not been privy to for quite some time. The crowd of strong and magnificent women gazed down at the polished stone floor of the small arena set up for the warriors to test their metal against each other.
A lone figure strode to the center and the crowd erupted in cheers for their reigning champion, Princess Diana of Theymscira. Decked out in the mystical armor of the gods, Diana looked every inch the champion she was, the Wonder Woman. Anyone who set their gaze on her could not help but notice her royal demeanor and touches of divinity.
Cheers erupted again as the challenger stepped into the ring. Decked out in much more traditional attire, she cut quite the imposing figure of an ancient Greek warrior despite her slightly thinner frame. Her blonde hair overflowed from her helmet as she strode to the center of the arena to face Diana. While their attire was different their weapons were exactly the same, a shield adorned with the visage of Athena and a broadsword in their dominant hand.
The two stared each other down as warriors but the air around them was a friendly one, as if the soothing presence of Aphrodite permeated the grounds.
"It has been a while since we have faced each other Mala. I am pleased to have this opportunity at long last." Diana smiled ever so slightly at her best friend. Mala had been a steadfast companion to her since her earliest days and the history between them was quite extensive.
"I am glad you have finally found the time Princess Diana. I have trained tirelessly for this day so that I can take the mantel of Wonder Woman from you so you can finally have some time for yourself!" The corners of Mala's lips also turned up a bit as she gazed back into Diana's eyes.
Diana let out a small laugh, even in combat Mala was trying to think what was best for her.
"Only if the gods will it. But I thank you for the sentiment none-the-less." With a nod to each other, the two clashed shields and then leapt back as they entered into combat. They started to circle each other, looking for an opening to exploit. Their training was both top notch however so there was little chance of such an opening exposing itself, unless they wished for it.
Deciding the best chance was to make an opening herself, Wonder Woman rushed forward to strike, counting on her advanced physical abilities over the Amazon to create the break she needed. A shield bash to knock Mala off balanced followed by a low leg sweep followed. The blow was enough to push her back but the leg sweep missed as Mala flipped backward and responded with a quick sword thrust. Wonder Woman managed a parry but she was also taken off guard by her quick response.
"I've been training with Queen Hippolyta herself these days to best you Diana! I doubt you've had much practice against a skilled swordsmen during your time in Man's World!" Diana had to admit Mala was right about that, in order to keep one's skill with a blade one needed at least an equally skilled opponent with a weapon as well. Recently she had been relying a bit more on her fists than the sword so her skill was slightly dulled.
Sword against shield, shield against shield, sword against sword, the two danced with each other in the deadly arena sport, causing the occasional spark to fly as metal struck metal. Despite the obvious difference in strength between the two Mala held her own quite well, and then Diana made a mistake, a slight overreach with her sword arm gave Mala all the opening she needed. She guarded with her sword and swung the edge of her shield as hard as she could into Diana's fist, knocking her sword right out of hand.
Diana groaned as Mala quickly took the offensive while making sure to keep Diana away from her sword. Diana continued to block with her shield but was finding it hard to do much else as Mala tried to use her own shield to keep Diana's in place so her sword could find its mark.
"You're right Mala, looks like a do need a bit of a refresher, but I've also learned quite a bit during my time out there."
Wonder Woman suddenly took off her shield and threw it at ground in front of her feet. Mala reflexively hunkered down with her own shield to block Diana's so it didn't sweep her off her feet. The shield throw distracted her just long enough for Diana to jump over Mala, grab her by the shoulder, flip over and toss Mala into the nearest column once her feet hit the ground. Mala sailed through the air and smashed into column with a thud and a clank as she used her shield to cushion the blow. She crumbled faced-down to the ground as as she tried to push herself up, she felt a heavy weight on her back as Wonder Woman pushed her down to the ground with her foot, and felt cold steel against her neck.
"I've learned how just a moment's distraction can be all you need." The Amazons' cheered as the match was over and the dust settled on their match. Once Mala raised her hands in surrender, Diana got off her back and helped her friend up.
"Whew, still I almost had you, you have to admit that! Forgive me Diana, I was unable to lighten your burdens."
"I know I have told you before but it is a burden I wish for no matter how heavy it may be." Before Diana could talk any further a young amazon ran up to them, breathing a bit heavily from their run.
"Forgive my intrusion, but the Goddess Hera requests your presence Wonder Woman." Diana could not help but frown at the sudden news. At least the message had come after their match.
"Admittedly this is a burden I could do without." Diana grumbled slightly but a word from the gods, especially Hera, was not to be ignored. "Still, thank you Mala, for everything." Diana hugged Mala with all the happiness she could and Mala happily returned the hug as best she could. The two parted and Diana rushed off toward the nearest temple to her the words of her mother-in-law.
It was almost never good.
