As much as I always advocate for people to not all group in Gotham, if you want a female anti-hero with powers from the city then Poison Ivy would be your gal. And her sort of feminism and almost eco-terrorist outlook would suit the era.

While I’m trying to be as hands off as possible, I think we should avoid too much clutter and doing things superfluously. The goal is interaction, but this is not a Gotham City Stories game. Me and Hound, whom I have selected as the first of two co-GMs, are discussing the best approach going forward in how we design the sandbox so to speak.

We already tentatively have a Robin, Batgirl, and Batman and I think we should tell some stories elsewhere too. Like New York and Metropolis, for instance. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates.

That's a good point. But she's kind of a villain though isn't she? Like people know her more for that. I guess I could change her into an anti-hero. I just didn't consider her because I thought of her as a villain.

By the way, why don't you like people grouping in one place? I'd love for that to happen, lol. Sounds like fun to me.

Edit: Guess the question now goes to the GM, too, that post hadn't appeared for me yet when I asked Retired my question.

I think because it takes away from other corners being developed. In the first Hype RP on RPG we had around 8-9 people centered in Gotham and it was a cluttered mess with no cohesion (and certainly not a lot of fun). I think the idea is to be mindful, especially using legacy characters of parent characters. The idea of collaboration is key, but I dunno, idea is to keep it fair-minded. I don't mean to lock down on any ideas. I just think it sets a bad precedent.

She was actually an anti-hero long before Harley Quinn. She'll kill to protect nature, but she has no desire for common crime or fighting the bat.

As for why I personally don't like over-grouping (keeping in mind I have zero say and this is just my thought), on a narrative level it stops the world from being fully developed and on a mechanical level it more often than not results in dead games due to lack of diversity.

Not to mention generally overwhelming the parent character's player with ensuring everybody is happy and able to work with what they've setup.

Fair enough, I guess. I might be a little biased because the last RP I was in I ended up being the only player in Gotham. And I guess I like the idea of using legacy characters because it means everyone can get together faster and they already know each other.

Plus, Gotham is like, the coolest comic book city. And Batman has a million cool characters in his comics.

So I guess I'd rather be in a city with other people. Like, what if I submit a character for another city and once again end up being the only person there? No thanks. I guess making a legacy character in a city with other players in it sort of guarantees my chances to actually do the thing I want to do, which is RP with other people.

That does go under the line of thinking that their events will cross wires, though. Like I get it. Back in the first DC game I joined, I picked up Kara for the first time and immediately had a 6-8 post collaboration with Bounce who was playing Superboy. I'm not putting my foot down on this too heavily, I'm just thinking we should think about how we interact as much as that we want to interact.

I will say, no one's preventing you from making such an app for one of these Gotham-based characters...

...but yeah, in the past, there have been occasions where EVERYONE flocked to either Gotham or New York, and it does bare mentioning once we start getting a number of people all expressing intent to base out of there. Especially early on, before numbers round the game out.

It's a fine balance.

Just like it's worth mentioning other characters exist when we start these games and we get four apps for Spider-Man, five for Batman and only twelve people total at that point expressing any interest in the game.

There's a difference between raising the point and giving a hard no, though. Feel free to give it a crack.

Also, I'll just throw this out there for those concerned: I'm going to be playing a character designed entirely for interaction. I can go anywhere and help with anything as a result, and it will entirely fit my character's story no matter what. And I'm planning to hit the ground running with collabs. So, worst case, you'll never be without a chance for at least one or two interactions.

This goes for everyone. I'm down to collab with any and all.

I'd suggest including a city on the other side of the country, California. Given that it is the 60s there's a lot of stuff happening in California.

San Francisco would be great for hippy stuff, Bruce Lee, Chinatown, Triads, racial/lgbt stuff. LA would be good too for most of the same reasons as well as Hollywood. Someone mentioned Richard Dragon earlier and he'd be a great fit for either or both of those cities.

There's also the West Coast Avengers.

Then in history there was lots of interesting stuff happening there. Beach Boys, Beatles, Manson, Bruce Lee, Haight Ashbury, Scientology, I believe the Children of God cult was active there at that time too.

Gateway City, Star City, and Coast City are the major hubs in DC Comics in regards to California. Marvel occasionally uses LA and San Francisco.

I'm a big fan of Gateway City myself, being a Wonder Woman fan. Lots of Greek Museums and tons of wacky shit. But don't worry, the GM Team is slowly figuring out the direction of things when it comes to non-player determined events. Nothing too grandiose, but more serialized. Optionable.

1968 CHARACTER POSSIBILITIES:
-X-Men (Focus on OG 5? Have a school open for other characters to play in? who knows)
-A Teen Titan of some kind? (Superboy, BB, Starfire...wouldn't want to do the whole team again)
-Wolverine (would prolly involve a lotta time jumping/flashbacks so I can play around with how fuckin old he is. could be fun. vietnam shenanigans?)
-A Justice Society type, like Alan Scott or Dr. Fate (magic is hard, but fun.)
-prolly going to avoid big names like Spider-Man, WW and Flash
-bring back jamie's BB (really enjoyed playing him, but the alien tech might not fit the era too well. maybe go retro?)

dunno yet! brainstorming

I was thinking more like a 9/11 Spiderman kinda thing. Like fuck, we can stop Lex Luthor and Weapon X and all this big shit, but some nice pregnant lady still got murdered right in our backyard because some retard wanted to bring about a Helter Skelter race war.

That's messed up.
