His mother was an English major, and his father a computer science major. Christopher Robin got his name from his mother’s favorite fictional series, something he still hasn’t completely come to terms with. As his dad always says, it could have been worse. If he’d been a girl, it would have been Winnie. ____________________________________________________________________________It wasn’t that long after Christopher Robin was born that his family relocated from the suburbs of Denver to the suburbs of Long Beach, California. His mother had found her passion writing children stories, and made enough money that his father was able to take the coveted ‘full time dad’ position, and Christopher Robin spent his elementary years with a dad that shared his passions with his son: namely skateboarding and surfing. After all, they were only minutes away from the beach. By the time he’d turned fifteen, Christopher Robin had found his personal passion in life: being a stoner and wearing Vans. Luckily, he’s yet to turn into the classic California hippie, but he’s definitely a skater slash surfer bro, from the way he dresses in baggy hoodies and beanies, to the way he talks with his hands more than his words. One day, he wants to go to the X-Games and win a gold medal in one or more events. He’s not sure if it’s been done before him, and he’d love to be the first one. Christopher Robin has been suffering from senioritis since he started his junior year. That’s it. Darling cannot stand having a military dad, especially one that comes from a long line of military men and has high expectations of him continuing the legacy. For a while, Darling showed interest in going into the military, only because he was preening under the attention of his father – and then he turned eight and discovered surfing when they lived in Florida. After that, he wanted to be a pro-surfer, and his father doubled down on “making a man” out of him. Darling grew out of his “pro surfer” phase by the time he was ten, but by then he found a taste for rebellion and stopped listening to his father. No matter how many punishments his father doled out or the verbal lashings he received, Darling thrived on disobeying his father. He shirked his responsibilities, ignored his homework, and started playing hooky younger than most. Darling’s grades were so abysmal, he was held back in the ninth grade. That was the final straw for his dad, and he was sent to a military school all the way in Kentucky. He probably would’ve been in the military school until graduation if it weren’t for his mother doing a runner. The summer before his senior year, his mother left in the middle of the night, and his father brought him home. Senior year is starting, and his mother’s abandonment has left Darling as carefree as ever. yes please! in middle school she was a star, queen of the court. while the sport brought about a new vigor, it also served to enhance her already outgoing nature. koren was the morale booster, a force to be reckoned with, the loudest on the court and off. the competitive nature in her was sated so long as everyone was enjoying the game and having fun and she win, of course. she was in her element and her love for the sport only increased with every game. never one to shy away from something because of it's difficulty, koren often times found herself in the company of others who may not always appreciate her intense presence. the family relocated again, back to australia after middle school, much to her brother's displeasure; though to koren she saw it as a new adventure and looked forward to it. with being back near waves that towered over the shoreline, she was back in her second element. the water. her parents often joked she was part fish with the way she took to the sea; surfing, swimming, diving - it didn't make a difference what she was doing so long as water was involved. it was a struggle to get her to do well in school. not because she lacked the brains, although some people would say that that is exactly why. koren has difficulty in paying attention to things that don't interest her, or keep her interest. did someone say adhd? That's really just a roundabout way to say that to Zoei, everyone who isn't her is kind of unimportant and an equal part of the formless blob that is school peers. She has her disagreements with other students stemming from the fact that her family lives damn close to the poverty line while others seem to flaunt their excess and social media presence but she doesn't take it out on them or blame them for it. Respect the hustle if not the hustler. Her sarcasm is, like most teenagers, sort of a self defense weapon and a self-inflicted wall that keeps her from connecting with her peers even into her senior year. She's never been on a date, she doesn't really have many people messaging her outside of needing her for group projects, and after the opinion piece she wrote last year it's likely she's going into grade 12 as an undesirable. In her defense, though, she warned the editors of the school paper that one way to get people to read it was to call the whole notion of prom archaic and people who care about it as vapid. She was right, but at what cost. The cost of her social life, which is nonexistent to begin with. It doesn't matter, though, she has almost 100k subs on YouTube so that play button is in the bag. ____________________________________________________________________________If Zoei took the chip on her shoulder and dipped it in the salsa of understanding and common ground, she might just graduate having gone on a single date. Fortunately, Everly is the opposite of that. Yes, she is the child of Texas Republicans but apart from the fact that she is gay (well, not to her parents) and listens to 'urban' music, she also just stands for most things her parents stand against. She isn't rebelling against them by design, it isn't some strange 'liberal phase' or anything, she just can't see the sense in going around acting like an asshole all the time. If someone wants to be an asshole, cool, just go be an asshole around some other assholes and be miserable together. Still, there's merit to her parents in a weird way. Her father being well spoken (but also kind of naïve with his political aspirations) has rubbed off on Everly. Despite her appearance as being little more than a stoner kid (not that she isn't), Everly is eloquent and a shocking anchor for the debate team. The only thing she loves more than getting into verbal arguments is getting into freestyle rap battles because what are those if not verbal arguments where you're allowed to say your opponent's mom is a fucking whale. ____________________________________________________________________________ B I O G R A P H Y Everly Reagan Rigby (just guess where her middle name came from) came dangerously close to being named after, in her words, "Some shitty song from the 60s or something" but fortunately she was saddled with the slightly cooler 'Everly'. Her father, Richard (of course she calls him Dick), got no small bit of notoriety for getting some absolute shitbags off in Texas. He used his lawyer powers for bad, so to speak. Richard has loftier dreams in that he wants to have political office. He somehow believes that he'll be able to break into California mayoral politics as a Republican. He moved from Texas to California as a bit of a challenge (and because, in his words, Texas was getting a bit too 'diverse of opinion'. Leave it to Richard to not say the quiet part out loud. ____________________________________________________________________________Everly took to California a lot better than her parents, who took some time to adjust. Richard managed to partner at a fairly decent firm and Everly's mom can be seen on some local channel reading headlines and looking like she was hit with a shotgun blast of makeup. Everly has taken it upon herself to undermine her parents' authority at every turn and she's already started looking into ways to move out as soon as she turns 18. Her parents still believe she'll come around. Everly disagrees. She'll just be a gay disappointment until the end. Their branches differed, but leaves are leaves, and the military life isn’t always the easiest. In the military, Ivy’s father – Ian Darlington – met and got a girl pregnant. Her name was Andrea, and Ian was a traditional man who was expected to marry the mother of his children. However, Andrea was enlisted while Ian was an officer – not exactly the Romeo and Juliet storyline people expect, but forbidden nonetheless. Ian never faltered under his family’s expectations of a successful career in the military – so Andrea retired from the military instead. Growing up, Ivy was used to many things. She was used to her annoying older brother, River, and the litany of dogs her family kept throughout the years. She was used to the way her mother combed her hair and kissed her forehead. And, like these simple things in life, Ivy was used to the bitterness within her mother. Like her own little bed time stories, Andrea whispered to Ivy of better times in which she got to see the world and have a career. Ivy didn’t feel guilt – she wondered if River did, if he knew that he was the reason for their mother’s unhappiness. As she grew older, Ivy grew distant from her mother and her poisonous resentment. Instead, Ivy desperately sought the approval of her father. Except, Ian Darlington was busy with turning River Darlington into the man “he ought to be” and continue the age old military man tradition. Well, Ivy wasn’t one to be outdone, and when River was sent to military school the summer after her 8th grade year, she made two promises to herself. One: She would prove herself to her father. Two: She would never become bitter like her mother. Her mother left – never said a word, just packed her bags and took off one night.
