A few people have asked to compile a list of features our userbase would like added to the Guild. If there's some functionality you'd love to see incorporated into the forum, leave your suggestion here!

I would love if we could use the dice mechanic as a group. So that a GM can open a campaign for their RP and have all dice rolls happen in that dice campaign. No more "link me to your roll", I can just check the campaign rolls for all dice rolls by all players. (If that's already possible, I must have missed it.)

Even more awesome would be if one dice campaign could be structured to have sub-campaigns. E.g. I open "Superhero RP" as a campaign and add sub-campaigns like "Player 1", "Player 2", or specific purposes for rolling like "Rolls for Combat", "Rolls for Social Interactions". But that's maybe taking it a bit too far? ^^

I'd really like there to be a longer expiry date for threads so you can still post in Spam in old threads, and maybe some wider image support so people can use URL's for images on Avatars

Dedicated smut section, that way the recent RP's area and 1x1 section isn't clogged with people looking for cybersex

Tabs in PMs! ๐Ÿ™ I know it's been requested before but just +1-ing it. Also the option to rename PMs (if this is already a feature someone point me towards it).

Thanks Legend!

>Justified text. It's been at least two years and it still doesn't seem to be here. Also, if possible, can we get an update to the BBCode Cheatsheet? There's at least one function--abbreviation--that isn't even mentioned on it, even though it seems to be a rather basic one. A link to one of the BBCode guides being put in there would also help newcomers so they don't have to go hunting them down, or wait for a user drop a link.

At the bottom of threads, where it shows the usernames of the people currently viewing that thread perhaps it could be arranged so that when you mouse over a user's name it indicates if that user is currently posting.

Oh, hey, it's the thread I mentioned was worth making.

I've mentioned a couple ideas to you, but they're scattered and trying to find most of them is probably a vain effort. But from what I can remember:

- The user profile needs a ton of work.

We already know the VMs are broken, but while they're being fixed we should have the option to disable/private the section as well. Similar things could be said for the other sections, too. The trophy and arena rankings are currently useless right now (as in they haven't really been addressed/touched by staff for anyone in a long time), but you can only hide the arena rankings. As for the images section, Mahz mentioned that he had some ideas he wanted to work on, but I'm not aware if he ever finished them. There's a list he made somewhere in the news section that he typed up, but I don't remember where it is exactly.

I know you've mentioned prior that you're working on a few things for profiles already (like better avatar suppport), but since these are all public things I figured to mention something about them.

- Status bar

I know some people have issues with the status bar. I personally don't (aside from when people have lengthy conversations that aren't maybe an extra status or two). Rather than have a status "bar", there could be a status "page", like how RPN has theirs set up. This would contain the statuses for those who do not wish to see them, and as well keep it for those who want it. Plus, it'd solve the issue of people having full conversations in the bar by giving them the ability to actually respond to that specific status in question.

The only issue I'd see spring up is that since RPN status/posts are more akin to VMs (they're technically "profile posts", not statuses, on RPN), so it'd make VMs essentially redundant if it's copied 1:1.

- More thread customization.

We need more thread tags. The ones that exist now are okay, but allowing people to be more specific could be useful (as in being able to tag "zombies" or "alien invasion" rather than just "apocalyptic/post apocalyptic"). The fourth tab--spare tab, lore tab, etc. that people have been requesting for awhile would make things much better on the guild, too.

- Ability to link things

First, we all know [youtube] exists. But I feel we do need a few more tagging options, like [spotify] or the like for people to be able to plug music and what not into their posts. Secondly, perhaps look at the [img] tag and add more support to it? I don't know how many times I've had to go back and fix a link because it ended in .gifv and not .gif. Maybe add something like .mp4 for video support, too.

Anyway, those are just some of the ideas I've got rolling around in my head. I've definitely got more, but I've got some other stuff to do. Plus, others are already voicing off ideas I've had myself (like the 1x1 issue and making a secondary section to keep it from being a smut haven like it is now).

>There were discussions about this back in like 2020 on the Discord iirc, and it wasn't feasible to do back then. I forgot why but I think it had something to do with needing to give all users the equivalent of admin privileges.

I've got two things I'd consider far less important than many new features already mentioned, but since it's an open question I'm gonna put them up anyway :)

More uniform spacing around various BB-Code elements

The problem is that these elements build blocks that always start end end on a new line, but behave assymmetrically about how they ensure this: At the beginning, they only insert a new line if there's not one already present, but at the end they always add a new line. This results in the manually inserted line-break after 'My sample text 1.' coming out as exactly that, one line break and then the list begins. At the end however you get two line breaks in front of 'My sample text 2': One is the manually added one, the second the automatically added one.

What you effectively get in terms of behavior in front of list/hr/... is this:

# line breaks in editor# line breaks displayed
01
11
22
33
......

What you effectively get in terms of behavior after the list/hr/... however is this (differences marked in red):

# line breaks in editor# line breaks displayed
01
12
23
34
......

I think it would be cool if the behavior after the ul/hr/... would mimick the behavior in front of it, so basically there'd just be the rule 'the first line break in the editor is only for cosmetics in said editor, but entirely redundant for the generated output' for both places. Basically, if the user inserts newlines after the list, the first of them could just be ignored for the output.

Ignore certain linebreaks within tables

Within a [table] element, any line breaks you add outside of a [cell] element are remorselessly added to the displayed output in front of the list. This forces anybody to avoid those line breaks even if they'd make the table much more read- and editable in the editor. I think it would be cool of those linebreaks just could be considered as meaningless whitespace merely meant to increase readability in the editor and completely ignored with regard to the displayed output.

Small bugs (possibly to be continued)

  • The [.hr] tag is still displayed as a horizontal line instead of just the BB-Code within a [code] element.
  • The list of online users sometimes adds an unnecessary comma at the end as if there'd be one more user whose name needs to be separated from the others.

Oh here's a good one, is it possible to implement a way to change your password like how you can change an email address? It bugs me how easy it is to swap my email address but not my password. Or maybe add more account security, like how google uses the "Name of your first pet" sort of questions.

I'm not sure whether this would work but I'd like to have the option to create unpublished threads so that I can work on an OOC until its good and then decide to publish it. So far I've always been keeping all that in my PMs until I'm ready to post it into an OOC and while this work around is OK, it'd be more convenient to just have a thread only I can see until I publish it.

You could use the Test section. Not quite the same thing but...

If you don't want folks seeing that you've like posted a new thing there, if you're kind of keeping something under wraps until you're done, you can always Edit a post you've already posted and it won't update the thread as having a New Post.

As a work around until they fix that.

Reading all of these and continuing to take suggestions (expect any future updates to roll through in order of what's easiest to implement ).

In the interim, you can reset your password with the "Forgot Password" function. But I agree, you should be able to do that without dealing with email.

Or if you want to be sneaky, you can type up the draft, replace it with a blank space, and then reference your draft in the secret Revisions page (roleplayerguild.com/posts/<postID>/revisions). You can only see your own revisions though ;)

Coming in with another PM feature I thought about which I'm sure has also been suggested before. The option to pin PMs? For example I also work in a PM when I write drafts or test something, so being able to pin my own PM so it's always at the top of my PM list would be swell.

Building off of this, ages ago when I wasn't banished to the shadow realm from the Discord I had a discussion with Mahz about implementation of a sophisticated text processor -- think in-text editing, justified text, resizing images on the fly -- instead of... well, whatever this is we have now is severely hampering long form writing. He'd said it was something he'd played with before but I guess never got anywhere with it, but like, we're on a writing forum, the word processor should be the most important tool on the website. At least, that's what I think.

Hi. I'm not sure if this is a feature I'm overlooking or what:
A clickable button that snaps to each post in a thread. Essentially a next post button. We have a button that goes to the top of the page or the bottom, but how about one that goes between individual posts. I hope I'm explaining this clearly. Thanks for all the admin stuff you do!
