Finally watched the 2nd Avatar this weekend in theaters. Both visually and in regards to the setting the movie is stellar, but the writing is the weakest link to the entire movie, I feel. It's a 3 hour film with no resolution and almost feels like a slog fest at times.
I think the writing was fine but in regards to the resolution I can understand that. Sure the immediate problem was resolved but it very much felt like a 'this is the first part of a multiple part story' by the ending and it's probably just because a third (and fourth and fifth) movie are on the horizon that James Cameron can just blatantly get away with that on top of introducing things and just handwaving it away like "don't worry about it yet it's not important until the next movie." I kinda respect the balls to do something like that even within like the first five minutes. "Yeah the scientist lady who died in the first movie? Her avatar had a kid. Don't ask how it just did. Also the kid has special powers don't worry about it, not important. Also whale brains are the key to immortality who gives a fuck not important."
