Finally watched the 2nd Avatar this weekend in theaters. Both visually and in regards to the setting the movie is stellar, but the writing is the weakest link to the entire movie, I feel. It's a 3 hour film with no resolution and almost feels like a slog fest at times.

I think the writing was fine but in regards to the resolution I can understand that. Sure the immediate problem was resolved but it very much felt like a 'this is the first part of a multiple part story' by the ending and it's probably just because a third (and fourth and fifth) movie are on the horizon that James Cameron can just blatantly get away with that on top of introducing things and just handwaving it away like "don't worry about it yet it's not important until the next movie." I kinda respect the balls to do something like that even within like the first five minutes. "Yeah the scientist lady who died in the first movie? Her avatar had a kid. Don't ask how it just did. Also the kid has special powers don't worry about it, not important. Also whale brains are the key to immortality who gives a fuck not important."

Other than the Last of Us, I've been continuing my rewatch through the MCU/Marvel shows. Currently slogging through some of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before I move to Dark World, Winter Soldier & the GotG films.

Bigger Longer and Uncut
You can probably also find some censored episodes. Maybe the Cartoon Wars ones.

The two games are kinda similar to having more episodes too. I only played The Stick of Truth but it was pretty damn good

I recently finished Yu Yu Hakusho. And I learned something, it's the only brawler anime I got. I define myself as a Swordsman for Anime, like a Sword Hunter I prefer only watching Anime with a Swordsman that matters to me. In manga I didn't comprehend that fact much, just liking being able to read a translation seemed to incred on me. Now watching Animes, I'm close to quitting because I wanted the THOUGHTS to not be said outloud. Savages, savages everywhere.

Odd, because my first Anime the Spider-Man 90's Animated Series had Peter Parker capable of thought correctly. Flippin weird...

I'm doing One Piece currently. I had on Toonami gotten to the Crocodile saga and some Erenu saga bits, and have finished them so far. Now, having been interested in being a Swordsman for street-taste of anime, I'm close to skipping sagas and just flipping through them when I'm ready, because the story makes me feel obstinate. I'll watch all this eneru stuff though, the electric-logia is just too important to misfit.

>Have more things that I intend to watch and add onto this post later. But these movies made me stop preemptively.

''Reviews'' for...
Sunshine: I imagine the high praise for this movie comes from the critics that obsess over cinematography. (Since this movie is style over substance in every way.) The plot and pacing of this movie is a clusterfuck. And I think this movie tried to make the characters seem human by making them all disastrous fuck ups. But for a mission to save the planet, you’d think they’d pick less stupid, reckless, irrational and more empathetic individuals? (Apparently both the writer and director are pretentious as hell though. And that comes across in the movie they made.) So, yeah sure, the last third might’ve been the worst part of it. (And it only gets worse and worse as it goes on.) But the nonsense writing is apparent from the start.

Nope: It has a literal “and then everyone clapped” scene within the first ten minutes. As if I needed such a transparent sign of how the writing will be for the rest of the film. And “What was the point…fuck the point” is a line in the movie that describes how I feel about it. (And an apology to Sunshine, your writing was not this bad.) The first hour plus of this movie was an endurance test of how long you can stand nothing of interest/substance happening. With countless ‘meta’ scenes and references about shows and making them. I Nope’d out of this movie and hit fast forward. (Two hours to see one cool shot/idea that I have to assume the whole movie was created for.)

Pandorum: The first monsters shown in this are basically the Navi, and the planet of the Navi is called Pandora. But then it's just the creatures from The Descent. This feels like a pilot of a show on SyFy. It has an abundance of sci-fi concepts, some better than others. The acting is far superior to the past two movies I watched. (And there’s no fucking cringy modern dialogue.) But the pacing is off, the audio mixing can get obnoxious, and the editing is a mess. And “the story” is in desperate need of an editor.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was incredibly eh. It's a movie where the actors try to salvage a script from a screenwriter who was not up to the task of going from cartoon sitcom to movie.

Watching The Parent Test on Hulu and it is helping me process some trauma from childhood. Anyone with a good or maybe not so good relationship with their parents or caregivers might enjoy this.

Edit: Nevermind it's trash lol

The Lazarus Project: Time Loop stories should be the easiest thing in the world to make appealing right from the start. But this one feels delusional (and already dated beyond belief), poorly acted, and the characters act like they're in a horror movie. "Ala speak vaguely, be an asshole, and never listen to what someone else has to say - and voilà - you create instant conflict!" (So it didn’t even manage to hold my interest for the entire episode.)

Mythica: A Quest For Heroes: (Think "Gamers", but without a sense of humor and Rey is your main protagonist.) It's ambitious to make five whole movies, out of a minimal budget, I guess? But I wouldn’t call this film entertaining. Nor would I recommend it as a "hidden gem". Since its cliché-riddled plot is impossibly bare-bones, and yet it still struggles to make any sense. So you’ll be struggling to find things to even enjoy about it, like "oh look, it gets 'cold breath' right. And I just watched a modern big budget movie that failed to have that." (So, I'll give it an E for effort, and move on.)

Redline: I swear I saw this before. But I definitely didn't watch the dub version. So it was thoroughly entertaining, for what it is. (Certainly a feast for the eyes.) Though the pacing is breakneck like nearly all anime movies, and the plot clearly did not matter to the writer at all.

I actually enjoyed Nope.

Who do you think was the reason I watched it in the first place? >:c

I’d have accepted its slow start, if anything that was shown previously had mattered in the long run.

The only positive thing that kept me going was how Keke Palmer's character was playing an "enjoyably annoying” character. (Since she seemed to be the ONLY one giving a performance of some kind. Then I looked up her IMDB to see what else she’s done, and saw she was a character in Big Mouth.) But after she went on to lecture an entire audience at her brother's workplace, and then they all proceeded to smile and clap in response. I realized that the movie DID NOT have any sense of self awareness. (I seriously think the movie struggled to find a tone and stick with it.)

Keke Palmer was fun in that movie, but from what, admittedly little, I've seen of her she seems to have been playing herself.

I think they were all clapping not because like "oh my god we agree you have changed our lives urrrrrmagherrrrrrd" but out of appreciation of a well rehearsed and delivered short history. Like an appreciation of a performance. That didn't seem that weird to me, they're supposed to all be movie people.

I kind of agree about tone, but I dunno. It was an interesting new take on a familiar concept. I liked the new (at least to me) concepts. The story with the Asian guy and the monkey was great too.

Redline is fuckin' sick because it is a very very clear passion project from the director which is why the animation is fuckin' sick to the point where the plot isn't important because it's just an excuse to have sick ass racing with sick ass music and sick ass visual flair. It is an assault on the senses to the point where I swear I was eating my own teeth by the end. Fuckin love Redline it owns so hard

"Cocaine Bear is overhyped and shockingly bad at comedy!" - The internet

Uh huh. Couldn't have figured that out from the title and premise alone could you?

Its director - made some of the most mediocre films ever crafted.
Its writer - somehow wrote a worse sequel to an already shitty Netflix horror/comedy movie, and nothing else.

Does anyone else even look these things up, before watching movies anymore? No, just me? Okay.

I've not heard that at all from the internet, I've heard that it is pretty enjoyable and campy just like Snakes on a Plane was.

I havent seen it though because I only watch movies worth arguing about endlessly

Cocaine Bear looked ok but I'm not much of a fan of the director. I'll probably wait until it's free on whatever streaming site. I haven't actually seen any reviews for it.
