As Esfir cleaned the Elwet the same old way, but with a new pair of hands, she found the creature was indeed very chicken-like. Its reptilian scales peeled much like those of a fish, however, and exposed skin that was pink just like that underneath the feathers---though the tail clearly had more structure to it than a chicken's. Not exactly prehensile, but much longer and more flexible than a non-fantastical avian. Its insides, too, were basically the same...although a few organs were different colors than one might expect...
The feathers were about the same one would expect from any large bird, such as a turkey. The tail looked almost like a headless snake once it had been cut off. The beak, though rough around the edges from years of wear against trees, stones, and who knew what else, had the texture of soft horn or hard fingernails. It was long, more akin to a spearhead than an arrow in shape. The two antlers didn't have sharp edges, per say, but the forked points could perhaps pierce something with a very hard hit. Their broad, rounded shape gave them a decent heft as well. The creature's talons were less like those of an eagle and more...duck-ish? Odd, for a land based bird...unless maybe there was water somewhere around here, and they swam or nested near it?
But the thing assumed to be the "Gizzard Sparkstone" was interesting. It seemed to be a hard, coal-black rock that had been knapped into a rough icosahedron. It was ever so slighty warm to the touch, but didn't glow or glimmer. Even if one held it up to the light, rather than reflect or shine it only seemed to darken on the opposite side of the sun's rays.

As Grunthor practiced, it didn't take long for his new, young hands to ache and become sore even though he was holding back and being quite careful. These Runt bodies definitely had a lot of growing and toughening up to do. But as he activated his [Rapid Strike] the effect was immediate; the old "snap" returned to his blows, the twist in his step-in felt just right, and three blurringly fast jabs shot out one after the other, like he didn't even have to think to roll through the mitt routine! He could almost hear the grizzled accent of his squinty eyed, ratty sweatshirt wearing, knit-capped trainer yelling at him again.
Then it was over, and he suddenly felt like he'd been hard sparring for a solid minute without breathing. The rush of stamina leaving him was enough that he gauged he could do that maybe twice more before he'd run out of juice. Runts apparently didn't have much in the way of cardio, either.

As Vola did the best she could with the broad leaves, she was able to make something of a compress by just sticking them to Gren's arm in layers. Tearing the leaves off the tree left some sap here and there, and when they were pressed against the wounds his own blood helped keep them stuck there. They probably wouldn't last long, especially if he picked at them, but they'd staunch the wounds until the blood coagulated on its own well enough. After sticking on a few layers, she had a handful of leaves left over in case some needed to be replaced later.
And after a while, Gren might actually notice a slight tingle on his cuts...they were ever so slightly numb, for some reason, but it didn't impede the sensation of feeling in his arm or limit any of his movements.
But, after all this, that Dire Rat Vola had seen was long gone. There was nothing else in the clearing, though. They still had the axe, too, so they could cut more wood from this apparent "tungem" tree, or choose something else to do...
