Io at the Ruins of Kazenosuke's House

@PaulHaynek @AzureKnight @Nakushita

Kazenosuke proved to be quite an enigma himself. Io had projected very little chance of success with her move, but he responded favourably enough. She would take any victories she could get. Though she had recovered energy through various other methods, her most preferred one was woefully neglected ever since her stay at Shizuyama began - something she was prepared for, but not necessarily enthusiastic about.

Leaving aside her inner thirst, Io turned her attention to a newly familiar presence - Alice. After their sparring session, there was no mistaking her, even without sight. She could tell the others noticed her too. "Another task force member." She briefly explained to Kazenosuke, not sure if she should go into any further detail than that. She turned and said to the her fellow task force members, "If you think she needs help, I can take Kazenosuke back to the temple on my own." She wasn't sure if they had a better intuition for what Alice might be doing, so she volunteered in case they felt the need to pivot their plans.

Of course that would also leave Io alone with the newly recruited swordsman, which was a win in her eyes. Not that she would admit that directly... Nor did she really expect any actual sudden developments from being alone with him, either, but Io preferred to play to any chance she might get. She nodded to herself. "He will be safe. Rest assured." She seized her grimoire, as if brandishing it would serve to emphasize her protective prowess.

Relica

@PaulHaynek, [Rezod92], @The Irish Tree

Well, things just kept getting better and better, didn't they?

After the bolt of magically charged energy whizzed past Kerry's head, both the hornet and the gremlin were caught completely off-guard. Relica blinked in confusion at first, trying to process what had just happened and why. Then it all clicked. She'd seen this before after all. Well, not exactly this, but situations and scenarios similar to it. Internally, she berated herself for having overlooked the matter, but there was no time for long-winded, introspective monologues and flashbacks with lots of background and character-building right now. Kerry was about to flip her lid and that wasn't good for anyone.

As the hornet readied herself to engage the traitorous automaton, the short gremlin did her best to endure the whipping winds and surging magic energy that was forming around her companion's weaponry, slowly getting closer until she was right next to her.

And then, she put one of her tiny gloved hands on Kerry's left forearm.

"Ker, she didn't attack you. If she had, your head wouldn't be attached to your body anymore." Relica stated, in a very morbidly blunt fashion. "She did this because of me, well, because I socked that baldie." She explained, trying to calm the angry merc down. of coursse, Relica wasn't exactly in her greatest state of mind either, and the whipping and surging of Kerry's magic wasn't really helping things.

In fact, it kinda sorta really hurt and was extremely unpleasant, and the fact that the little gremlin's clothes were opejn in the front for the most part sure as heck didn't help matters. With a scowling face and narrowed eyes, the green little monster did her best to endure though.

"C'mon, let's not do this. The only ones who gain by you beating her up, or she blowing you up, are the Varjans... And the locals, I 'spose." She urged, although it was hard not to want to just use her mechanical arms to grab and pin the hornet down and drag her off forcefully.

... But doing that would have undeniably long-lasting negative consequences far beuyond what Relica was willing to endure, especially after the most recent events. She just wanted to leave this stupid hamlet, these stupid people and go back to the temple and recollect.

It was also worth mentioning that in no way was Relica's words or voice soft and/or soothing. In fact, she sounded a bit like she'd taken a huge bite out of a lemon and was just barely keeping her own shit together. But the last thing she wanted was for her colleagues and compatriots to try and rip each others' heads off because of some stupid bald monk who deserved every bit of what he'd gotten... And then some...

"Let's go back to that temple. You and her can work things out there later, alright?" There was a lot of strain in Relica's voice.

... Wait. What was that about gold? And what had Kerry thrown into that tree before she began threatening Eula? ... Was that... A bag of money? No. She hadn't.... She didn't, right? ...

... Things just kept getting better and better.

At least she'd been lucky enough that Eula's blaster bolt hadn't hit the back of her M.E.E.P pack. If it had, she wouldn't be standing here anymore... And Kerry would've gotten caught in the blast too. She should really see about reinforcing the frame of it once she got back to her workbench... Provided Kerry and Eula didn't start going at one another... 'Cuz trying to act like a wall between the two would not be easy or pleasant in the slightest.

Skarsneek of the Red Hills

“Ah, right. Thought you meant another.” Skarsneek quickly corrected himself as Yurine mentioned the kind of seal, which honestly befuddled him. This sort of arcane wasn’t his forte.

But he had a good memory, so Skarsneek had to trace the character out and look for the numerous seal that actually fit the bill.

Yurine was already ahead of him as she placed another seal on Hinami, stating that it would put her in a docile state.

Skarsneek shrugged and only tightened his hold gently around his sister-in-law should anything happen.

“Hinami, you okay?” Skarsneek gently asked after Yurine stuck the piece of seal on her.

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Gringor gave a thoughtful as he heard about this chi shield requirements.

“Can’t do peaceful but can do calm. Like hunting.” He waved his hand, besides, those Dragon Warriors used it in battle. So it was possible to be used in battle, that alone was enough to make it worth learning.
Though when he heard the other requirement, he furrowed his brows. That would explain why Yurine got the drop on them.

But at the same time, did it mean he could’ve just grappled them down to the ground the moment they used those shields?

Something to do later.

“A moment or instant is enough, can use to block or become hard when enemy charge.” Undeterred, Gringor said as he figured out different ways to use it offensively.

“So, what I need to do?” He open his arms wide, wondering how this works.

Yuki

@Crowvette@AzureKnight@PaulHaynek

Frowning as Shizuka begun to lecture her, Yuki let out a soft sigh and heard him out. Puffing her cheeks out as she pouted. “I just wanted to kick his butt, he attacked me first……but fine….I’ll try to keep myself under control next time….” Keeping her head turned to the side as she traced circles in the dirt with her foot. Feeling a bit embarrassed about the whole ordeal as she wanted to forget all about it and put it behind her. Thankfully Io gave her that chance in short order.

Turning her head towards Io and Kazenosuke, Yuki couldn’t help but to pause for a moment. Finding it interesting as Io was no doubt interested in their new ally. Blinking her eyes a few times as she started snicker off to the side “On your own, and he will be safe? Oh….I can imagine he will be quite safe….a lot more safe then he ever bargained for….” Yuki teased as she placed her hands on her lips leaning forward.

“Though, not to worry, you may have him all too yourself, I’m not quite….as fond of him” Smiling as she gave a small wink to Io. “As for me, I think I’ll head back too the temple as well, I need to recover a bit of energy. It’s been a while since I had to get physical” Stretching her arms up above her head as she tried to loosen up. Having to use far more energy than she had to use in quite some time. There was no doubt Kazenosuke was a crafty warrior, after all he had made quite a fool of her.

Which wasn’t something she was too pleased about, after all it was often her that was making fools of others. But to have the tables turned on her like that, she didn’t want to fall victim to it again. She felt like letting out a little bit of steam, maybe pulling a few pranks to get her mood back in order. At the very least, she was glad that this mission had ended, and they had accomplished the goal. Deep down she did hope that Io and Shizuka didn’t judge her too harshly for her little outburst. After all the trio had only recently gotten acquainted as she had not worked with them before. Feeling like she had made a bit of a poor first impression and wanting to refresh back at the temple. Not having really interacted with Alice before, feeling it was best that Shizuka took care of it.

Shizuyama Wilderness

Relica and Kerry's retaliation for the prank left the monk unconscious on the floor while the mother took her child and fled the house screaming.

Several villagers in the secluded settlement opened their doors to see what was going on. But upon seeing Eula and Kerry squaring off, they immediately shut their doors and closed their windows. The air swirling around Kerry was just more evidence that this altercation will get destructive very quick and that all they could do was huddle in their homes and hope they don't get caught in the crossfire.

Even the animals have fled, the tweeting birds flying away and the chittering insects skulking back to their burrows. Now, only the winds could be heard between the feuding taskforce members.

The stage was set, and all that was left was for Eula or Kerry or Relica to make their next move.

Kazenosuke's House

KAZENOSUKE, DANCING BLADE

Shizuka said that he would be going after their fellow taskforce member, leaving Kazenosuke in the care of Io and Yuki.

"He will be safe. Rest assured."
Io

“As for me, I think I’ll head back too the temple as well, I need to recover a bit of energy. It’s been a while since I had to get physical”
Yuki Akamata

Kazenosuke chuckled. "I am very much capable of defending myself, ladies." He remarked. "Although I supposed I don't mind some beautiful company."

---

Unfortunately for Io, she was with Yuki as they escorted Kazenosuke to Terauchi Temple. The trip through the dirt roads were uneventful until they ascended a mountain path and got a good look at a portion of Shizuyama's many shorelines.

The trio saw ships of varying sizes occupying the water, it was the Varjan blockade said to have surrounded the island. The waters were not completely filled, but there were enough that even a small vessel will be easily spotted by any lookout on the Varjan ships. Meanwhile on the land, several thick smoke stacks could be seen rising to the sky. Likely coming from the villages and homesteads hit by the Varjans.

Kazenosuke spent a few moments just staring at the sights before letting out a heavy sigh. "Say, yokai..." He called out to Io and Yuki. "Be honest with me, do we... does Shizuyama actually have a chance?"

"AND, I DEMAND TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER!"
Alice

The rainbow knight covered his ears and recoiled from Alice's loud demand. "Alright! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, okay? You're the most awesomest Queen ever and Shizuyama is graced by your blessed presence. You have the island's eternal gratitude and all that." He quickly apologized. "Please don't call for my manager, I beg you! I'm almost Company member of the year and a complaint now is seriously gonna ruin my chances!"

Glancing at the still-dueling Carroll and the Whimsy blade, the knight leaned towards Liliana and whispered. "Uhh, are we sure those two are gonna be alright?"

Terauchi Temple

After talking with Musubi, Takeshi left the pagoda with Lunatea. The Nurarihyon brought news from Lady Kyouko, saying that the Inari had a fleet awaiting to attack the Varjan blockade but needed a friendly port or the fleet will get worn down through attrition. Musubi said she would help the taskforce from the shadows as that was more her thing.

Somehow, Takeshi and Lunatea were together again, making things a little awkward considering their earlier interaction. Scratching the back of his head, Takeshi could not help but sigh. "Well, I guess we're together again." He remarked. The young lord was looking for something to separate from Lunatea and escape the awkardness, but decided not to.

"...You know, now that I thought about it." Takeshi started. "Had... everything been vastly different, I'd definitely consider getting together with you." He flashed her a goofy, yet genuine, smile.

Gringor

"Indeed, that is the most common application of the technique for the novices." Nobutada nodded. "Become untouchable for the strongest strikes, before returning to the fold when the enemy is exhausted. Using the technique like that will make you fatigued in a very short time, though. Not very suitable in a prolonged fight."

"But I'm afraid calm and hunting will not do. You may be sitting still when you hunt, but you are tense. Alert. Ready to pounce at any moment. No..." The monk shook his head. "You must be relaxed. Your guard must be down. Your thoughts serene. Thinking of nothing at all also counts, merely basking in the quiet silence."

"Look, I know you are enamored with the technique and are willing to brave its difficulty..." Nobutada continued. "But wasting time here might be detrimental, when you could be learning other things more suited to your style and personality."

Io at Terauchi Temple

@PaulHaynek @Nakushita

Though Io's ploy did not lead to her being alone with Kazenosuke, the return trip was still pleasant enough (and not solely because Io had been called beautiful). Io was never one for nature paths, but it was preferable to running as she had done on the way to Kazenosuke's house. She would need to catalogue the various pieces of flora that she had never seen before on the walk, but that would come after the issue of the Varjan invasion was settled.

The topic of the invasion loomed over the group as they returned to Terauchi temple. Indeed, the invasion was difficult to avoid with the sights of Varjan ships and plumes of smoke. Io spoke up to respond to Kazenosuke, "Shizuyama has individuals of profound ability. I have been surprised by several of them... Including you." Io turned, giving the swordsman a faint smile from under her hood - which was quite an encouraging expression by her standards. "I will work to expand the chance of success." She paused for a moment. "Through any means possible. The other task force members would do the same." She gave a nod to Yuki.

Of course, she wasn't sure if Kazenosuke knew exactly what she was capable of as a lich. Given his pragmatic nature, it seemed like he may not have an issue with accepting the aid of a necromancer, but as she said, she had been surprised before.

Just when the wererabbit was about to leave, she froze on the spot.

For the door had just slid open, revealing Takeshi behind it.

Lunatea cursed silently. She was supposed to leave before he arrived, godsdammit!

"Uhh, welcome to Shizuyama, milady. Err, Ayu was taken aside to help with a small matter. She'll join us as soon as she can. " Takeshi sighed in front of you Lunatea. "I take it you two have acquainted with each other?"

"Yes, we have, albeit only for a short moment." She ended with a quick glare towards the woman.

The Nurarihyon then told them of the news from Lady Kyouko, saying that the Inari had a fleet awaiting to attack the Varjan blockade but needed a friendly port or the fleet will get worn down through attrition. She then said she would help the taskforce from the shadows as that was more her thing.

Hmph! From the shadows, huh? It suits her indeed!

Afterwards, she and Takeshi left. Unfortunately, before they knew it, they were alone together again.

"...You know, now that I thought about it." Takeshi started. "Had... everything been vastly different, I'd definitely consider getting together with you." He flashed her a goofy, yet genuine, smile.

Lunatea's face swiftly turned into a cold frown that was strangely accompanied by a blush. W-why must he bring that up out of the blue? Is he mocking me?!

"…You don't have to pity me. I can handle it just fine, you know." She returned, throwing her face away from his gaze. "I'll find another husband just fine. And one much better than you at that," she added with a certain venom in her words.

@PaulHaynek @Xaltwind (REL) @The Irish Tree (EUL)

Kerry's eyes were zeroed in on Eula, completely focused even as Relica braved the whipping air currents and tried to get her to calm down.

"Ker, she didn't attack you. If she had, your head wouldn't be attached to your body anymore. She did this because of me, well, because I socked that baldie."

"Doesn't change the fact that she shot at me with my back turned, Rel. You know, more than anyone, how I feel 'bout that shit.", Kerry responded, her tone final and direct.

"C'mon, let's not do this. The only ones who gain by you beating her up, or she blowing you up, are the Varjans... And the locals, I 'spose. Let's go back to that temple. You and her can work things out there later, alright?"

For moment, Kerry said nothing as she continued to stare at Eula...before, for a brief second, her eyes turned to Relica. She took note of the effort the gremlin had to muster in order to withstand the raging winds. She, then, took a moment to view her surroundings. The villagers instantly took shelter in their homes as soon as the two mamono started arguing. Between Eula's arsenal and Kerry's magic, there wasn't a shadow of a doubt that the little village would be erased from the map in a potential fight.

So, with that in mind, Kerry made a desicion.

"You're right, Rel. Let's not do this..."

Seeing Kerry relax out of her combative stance and stashing Mort and Dusk on her back again, Relica and Eula, for a moment, believed the situation was finally cooling down...

".....not here."

It didn't.

Wind swirling around her foot, Kerry quickly kicked the ground, blowing forth a wall of leaves, dirt and pebbles toward the automaton. As this was happening, she then grabbed Relica by the scruff of her shirt.

"Don't open your mouth."

It was the only warning the gremlin would get as Kerry took to the skies. She then snapped her fingers toward a tree. A pop of air was heard before the bag of coins was launched high into the air, letting the hornet catch it in mid-air. With cargos in tow, she let the winds swirl around her before bursting forward, flying at breakneck speeds.

Her destination?

Terauchi Temple.

Relica

@PaulHaynek, @Rezod92, @The Irish Tree

Relica let out a tired sigh. It seemed her old battle sister had finally come to her senses. That was good. Between the Automaton' and the hornet, there was enough firepower and magic to easily turn the hamlet into a smoking post-tornado disaster zone. She was just thankful tha--

"Fweh?" Kerry just grabbed her shirt.

She was told to keep her mouth shut.

Then she was airborne.

The prior request was not going to be fulfilled.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!"

Attempts at flailing proved quite fruitless, as her short legs couldn't really kick the hornet as she was being held like a grocery bag. Unfortunately, Kerry's decision to grab Relica by her shirt - which wasn't meant to be grabbed and used as leverage - caused the gremlin's rather plump torso-taters to eventually pop out of their usually restrained position.

So, now she was being hauled through the air by her old friend, with her melons free from the oppression of her garments, while screaming her lungs out as the pair zoomed towards whatever destination Kerry ad in mind.

Granted, she could've used her robotic octo-arms to restrain Kerry... But doing that, in mid-air, at this height... Well, let's just say that neither Relica's rotor-contraption nor her jump-boots would be enough to shoulder their combined weight and keep them from being pancaked on the ground below...

So for now all she could do was endure and-

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!"

Later that very same AAAAAAHHH!, at the Temple.

Finally having landed and being freed from her sudden kidnapper. Relica was busy being on all fours, panting and breathing ungracefully and in a raspy, ragged manner. The gremlin eventually caught herself back to a reasonable state where she could muster the strength to get off the dirt and stand back up, still not aware that her blouse bunnies were free and joyfully showing off the everything and everyone around her. She was a bit too focused on Kerry at the moment to pay much attention to anything else.

"What the actual heck, Ker." Relica said, a scowl and anger in her eyes. "You still gonna fight her? I know you're pissed, I am too y'know!, but what're you gonna get outta beating her up, huh? Satisfaction that yoo pounded a cripple into the ground? And what the hell's the deal with that coin pouch, where'd you even get it!?" Relica's first statement was more a sincere inquiry, while the latter was a less sicnere one. It didn't take a genius-level intellect to figure out where a purse of coins, that the hornet hadn't had on her before, had suddenly come from.

After waiting and, probably, listening to Kerry's response. The gremlin sighed and rubbed her tmeple.

"Fine, whatever... I'm gonna go get things ready to repair Eula once she gets back... I'll probably need to use more stuff than I'd planned since you're gonna be like this. Awesome, just what I nee- Hey, is it breezy here, ya think?"

Relica looked around. Then looked down.

Boing~

Hello~!

... ... ...

"CURRY YOU IDIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!"

A tomato-headed gremlin than ran off with remarkable speed from the hornet's side, shielding her bosom from the harsh and probably not lecherous stares of others, as she dashed to her sanctuary for protection. Well, her workbench. Same thing, really. Seemed she'd need to fix more than just Eula's arm.

Moments later, at her wortkstation

Muttering an untold amount of curses under her breaht, Relica was going through her sack o' knacks to get set up for her eventual patient. She'd managed to fix the shirt-situation, so that was good at least, but her mind was a bit more focused on the apparent scuffle between her buddy and the automaton-girl. She would've liked to talk Kerry out of it, but knowing the hornet, there really wasn't going to be a way to do that. She'd always been head-strong and stubborn like that, even back then... Which was probably why they'd been at each others throats so often back when they first met.

Hopefully, the mercenary could reel it in a little better these days, and wouldn't go too far. The thought of adding injuries and damage onto the already battered Automaton casued a twinge of pain in Relica's chest. Honestly. She'd explained all of this to Kerry back in the days... But that stubborn muscle-head was so damn stubborn, she probably even forgot.

Having a voice inside your head that told you what t do, no matter what you wanted yourself... Being a golem or automaton was a hard life... Being created with free will, with emotions and with wants and desires of your own, but rarely if ever getting the opportunity to act on or express them... it was just unfair. Relica scowled again and angrily slammed her gloved hand onto the workbench's surface.

Which only served to hurt her hand and cause her to comedically grab it and swear a lot. Loudly.

Once the pain had subsided and she was relatively calm again, she gave her position a bit of thought. It was very likely that the mother and brat from that village were going to spread accusations about herself and kerry, and the other villagers weren't likely gonna do them any favors on that front. The monk might be willing to look the other way, givne how much of a softie he'd seemed to be, but she wouldn't put it past the guy to throw them under the carriage after this. She sighed deeply. If it came down to it, she'd just have to suck it up and shoulder the blame for this herself, hopefully, as the latest addition to the Taskforce and a relative unknown, the locals could just peg her as a volatile and untrustworthy monster, rather than having the whole group's efforts up until now undermined.

But that was a best case scenario, and if wars had taught the gremlin anyhting, it was that the best scare scenario rarely ever happened. Especially when monster-hating humans were involved.

With a bunch of parts, bits and bobs now assorted and laid out on her workbench, all the gremlin could do was sit and wait. Well, not entirely true. She remembered the scuffle with the Varjan patrol and quickly unlinked her damaged drone. At least she could tinker and fix this up while she had nothing else to do.

Yuki

@Crowvette@PaulHaynek

Yuki’s expression softened as the smoke and ships appeared on the horizon as she knew full well what it meant. Staring off into the distance, her typical smile gone and replaced with a far sterner expression as she remained silent in the moment. Her thoughts on those that had committed the heinous acts, wishing there was more they could do for them, but the current situation was a difficult one. It hurt her to see others suffering for the selfish gains of another, most of the people that paid the price being innocent bystanders.

Hearing the swordsman sigh, and Io’s response and acknowledging her nod. Yuki broke her silence. “I believe that Shizuyama has a real chance, especially if we are able to unite more Yokai with the people of this land, that is something that the enemy will lack, and its our strength to work together that will overcome the narrow-mindedness of the foe, we may be fewer in number, but we are not fewer in determination or will power” Pausing for a brief moment as she turned her gaze from the swordsman to the lich.

A small smile reappearing as a thought crossed her mind that she wanted to get out “besides, even if I haven’t had the chance to work with too many of the task members for too long, the ones I have met and worked with are all amazing, and are all really strong, so if you have any doubts, just know that no matter what, not a single one of us will give up” Her eyes shifting back towards Kazenosuke with a grin on her face. “If you ever get scared, you can always run and hide behind me, I’ll protect you for the big bad scary guysssss” leaning forward with her hands clasped behind her back teasing him a bit as she was starting to feel a bit more like herself again.

Eula

And so, the conflict was postponed. Kerry had the good sense to leave so that the surroundings were not damaged, leaving Eula alone with the frightened villagers. It was over until Eula faced her again but...

Right now, Eula had other concerns. No doubt she'd be viewed as a traitor for going against Kerry, a senior, so...maybe it would be best to not return at all. The automaton resolved herself to this if need be, and would instead enter the house the monk was in, and would rustle through her own pouch. A small pouch of coins, cinched in a violet sack, would be laid down before him. Next, she would repair the superficial damage done to several houses, whether that was caused by Kerry's winds or not, and await the monk's awakening. In all likelihood, the villagers would still fear her for her association with the other "yokai", but...she had to believe in the monk.

He wouldn't call for help and walk to and for for a simple joke. The prank had been to alleviate the seriousness of the situation, especially in front of a child. Even a machine could tell that it wasn't the conclusion to whatever job Kerry and Relica had undergone. And so, Eula would wait for the monk to awaken after sitting him up outside of the house, seeing as the inhabitants of said house probably wanted their living space back. Eula had nothing anymore. No coin, no backup, and only one arm to fight whatever problems the Monk had away. ...But, it would have to be enough. She would make certain that the task force's reputation wouldn't be completely ruined. She HAD to succeed. As for Kerry...however that would work out was a detail for a later time.

Shizuyama Wilderness

A TIME TO HEAL

~ @The Irish Tree (EUL) ~

After repairing the damages to the house the best she could, Eula waited for the monk to awaken outside the house they were in previously.

It was perhaps an hour before the monk stirred. "Ohhhh, what happened...?" He clutched his head. His eyes blinked a few times to regain orientation. He also tried to get up, but the pain in his head made sure that he could only barely stand. "Ohhh... the yokai... why...?" The monk recalled being attacked by his very own protectors. Of all the emotions he felt, confusion was chief among them.

But upon spotting Eula before him, things made even less sense. "Oh, madam yokai?" The monk said. "I... I believe I was attacked by the Gremlin yokai, and reprimanded by the hornet one." He recounted his memories. "But you are here... Am I misremembering things? Where are those two?"

Instead of being reassured, Kazenosuke's mood soured at the yokai's optimism. "Do you two realize how large the Varjan army is? What can a bunch of yokai do to stop them?!" He started ranting.

"They have more warriors, more spellcasters, more weapons, more equipment..." Kazenosuke voice then lowered. "More opportunities, more prospects, more options for a future..." He then covered his mouth to stop himself, hopefully not revealing too much to Io and Yuki. "N-Never mind me, you two are right. The Varjans may have us beat, but with our combined power... We may have a chance."

"Now then, let's go. We should hurry to Terauchi Temple." Kazenosuke wanted to leave behind his outburst.

LOST AT SEA

When Shizuka arrived and talked with Alice and Liliana, the rainbow knight silently went to a shed and hauled out a large wooden boat that came with a suitable oar. "Whew, good thing I brought a big one. What was once two became five. Just like those Vin Diesel movies..." He then hauled the boat to the water where he began playing with the seashells.

Upon seeing that the taskforce had all gathered together, the rainbow knight rose to address the group. "Oh, you guys are done with marriage counseling? We can finally get this show on the road..." The knight sighed. "Okay, first off: Hello, I'm Ian North. I'm here to help the taskforce if they get in a bind. I can't help all the time, though. I'm pretty busy myself. This is a whole-ass island that needs help, after all."

"But anyway, this boat's ready to take you to Hama Island. I'll row you guys there myself." Ian declared before looking at Shizuka and Carroll. "And really?! Really?! You two just gonna coochie-coo meters away from my boat?! Man, I don't get respect anywhere..."

Terauchi Temple

"…You don't have to pity me. I can handle it just fine, you know. I'll find another husband just fine. And one much better than you at that,"
Lunatea Vern Farnsworth

Despite Lunatea's cold rebuttal, Takeshi merely smiled more and even ruffled her head. "Hahaha, I'll be cheering you on, Lunatea."

Ayu finally returned and saw Takeshi and Lunatea little scene. "Hahaha! It's good to see that Lord Takeshi is getting along really well with the yokai." She cheered.

"Ah, Ayu! Just the woman I wanted to see!" Takeshi greeted her. "Madam Musubi told us many things. Things you ought to know as well."

---

"...So we need a port, huh?" Takeshi and Lunatea explained Musubi the Nurarihyon's news from Lady Kyouko. Now, Ayu's face was scrunched up in thought. "By now, all the major ports in Shizuyama are probably occupied. The Varjans know of their importance." She remarked.

It was then that Kerry and Relica made quite the dynamic entry from the air. After the Gremlin sulked off to her workshop, it was Takeshi himself who first greeted the Hornet. "Ah, Kerry! You're just in time. We're preparing for a... major move against the Varjans. Err, we're still planning it but it'll be good to have most, if not all, the taskforce here."

"What's this I hear about plans?" Takeshi was genuinely surprised when he heard that familiar voice. "I like plans. Don't leave me out of it." Io and Yuki had arrived along with their charge, Kazenosuke. "Gods above, they're right. You're still alive, Tak."

"I am only alive thanks to the yokai." Takeshi and Kazenosuke approached each other, before erupting into a hug. "It's good to see you, Kaze."

As Takeshi and Kazenosuke walked off as they caught up with each other, Ayu gathered Lunatea, Kerry, Io and Yuki. "Big news, everyone. Lady Kyouko has a fleet ready, but she needs a big enough port here to land it. Otherwise, the Varjan can inflict heavy losses on her fleet, even if they can't outright destroy it." The head spy explained. "Most, if not all, major ports in Shizuyama are already taken. That means we'll have to liberate one from the invaders."

"The closest major port here is Komatsu Bay. But I heard that place is as fortified as a castle, taking it head-on will be quite the challenge. Even for you, yokai, so I'm interested in your thoughts." Ayu said. "Although, I do have an idea... N-Never mind, it's not worth it."

Lost at Sea

@PaulHaynek@Enkryption@The Irish Tree
Fukami Port

Deciding to accompany Carroll, along with Alice and Liliana, to Hama Island, Shizuka would supervise the mission to ensure nothing went awry and that they returned as soon as possible. He of course was still considered that Alice might take this opportunity to inflict harm upon her cursed weapon. The man, who introduced himself as Ian North, had went to a nearby shed to drag out a boat large enough to fit all of them on. Diesel movies, what was he talking about? "Good to know we have an ally in you, North-san. Eh, what that about diesel?" Shizuka replied. North pointed out his and Carroll's intimate scene caused a sweatdrop to appear on his head.

"Y-You heard all of that...?" He was fully prepared for explaining the situation to Liliana and Alice, as monsters it'd be nearly impossible to hide the act from them. But apparently even the rainbow knight knew of their debauchery. "I meant no disrespect, I was just essentially healing an ally!" He tried to reason.

"A-Anyway, nevermind that now! Is there anything you can tell us about the situation on the island, anything we should know about?!" He said, attempting to change the subject.

@PaulHaynek@Restalaan
Terauchi Temple

Atsuha had barely responded as Takeshi, embarrassed, apologized for looking upon her naked body and promptly left. She was rather confused at his reaction, and supposed it just should be taken at his lack of understanding of yokai. Something like this wouldn't bother most instances of her kind, but she wasn't in the mood to tease the young lord and allowed him to leave without a word. Atsuha decided that she had spent enough time sulking in the springs and that she should focus on what's important. Hinami heavily on her thoughts, she rose from the spring and dried herself off. Leaving sakure petals flowing all over the water, Atsuha put her kimono back on and headed back toward the temple's main grounds.

Upon returning, she noticed more of the taskforce members had returned from their missions. She paid note at the ones who were still currently absent, including their captain. She also looked curiously at Kazennosuke, one of Takeshi's closest allies and fellow swordsman, seeing that Yuki and Io were the ones to return with him. Odd that Shizuka wasn't with them, wasn't he the one would took point on that mission? Given the man's standing, she ultimately trusted in his ability to keep himself out of trouble, and guessed that something else drew his attention. The others seemed to be discussing something, but she'd half to worry about that later, right now she had other worries to tend to.

--

After turning for a bit, Hinami would eventually start to calm down. "Tired...scared...want sister...here" She uttered, it seemed that her voice returned to normal as well. Her feral form had drained much of her chi, and with her strength depleted her primal frenzy could not sustain itself. Skarsneek and Yurine would then notice Atsuha enter the pagoda, going straight for her sister's side.

"I'm here, my nee-chan." She gently said, caressing Hinami in her arms. "The both of you have much thanks for looking after her for me." She said to both her lover and the gravekeeper. "I think that the others are discussing something of importance outside. I wanted to check on my sister before anything else, but since she's calmed down perhaps now would be a good time to get a lay of matters at hand. Yurine, perhaps we can go ahead and use the herbs to further calm her mind?"

Atsuha would then etch another seal onto Hinami's forehead. "Gods, it's pathetic that this is all I can do, but now that I've thought about it, I believe the chaotic flow of chi created by the state of the island is what's causing her outburst to happen so frequently. Before coming here, Hinami's never fallen into this state in this way before. I didn't expect the first seal to last that long, but things as they are right now certainly aren't helping..."

After the seal was finished, she laid her sister back down on her back. "But, enough about that, let's use the herbs and meet everyone outside for now. I'll fill my sister in on things later."

"Oh, we're finally planning an offensive? That's....great. Yeah, er...great. We should definitely focus on...thinking of ways to make sure things go our way.", Kerry responded, somewhat distracted as she looked down at the bag of coins in her chitinous hand, a conflicted expression seen by all on her face. She shook her head to dispel the inner turmoil of her thoughts. Her actions from the recent quest and the dilemma with Eula will have to wait as the hornet tossed the coin bag to Ayu.

"Hold on to that. Don't ask me where I got it. Now, if Komatsu Bay is fortified, then a full on assault would be a death sentence, not with the devastated numbers on Shizuyamian side. You got us, but there's only so much that we can do, so we'll have to be smart about this. Do you think there's anyone here, refugee or otherwise, that has been there? Any secret routes we can use to- wait, shit, I just remembered. Takamori's kid spilled the beans on that, so the Varjans may have any hidden pathways that we could've used covered."

ATTN: @PaulHaynek, @AzureKnight (Shizuka), & @The Irish Tree (Liliana)
"Are you done talking? It is a strain on my eyes just to look at you, but, that you overspeak the sheer volume of that garish armor has become aggravating," Alice says, looking at Ian squarely. "Bit Players should be silent and reliable."

"But, then again, in a world where swords pretend they can be lovers, and bandits play pretend..." Alice tilted her eyes to Carroll and Shizuka, "Well, what do I know?"

Carroll bristled, as her tail stiffened, and her fingers sharpened into blades. She wasn’t stupid. She knew retribution was close at hand, and the price was her soul. However, Alice suddenly giggled, and slung an arm around Ian’s shoulders. "That said! As we learned from Sky High, Main Characters would be nothing without the dutiful, unsung heroes: the valiant Support Characters!" she says, "From the background to the foreground, without them, we would be standing around on our tippy-toes while sitting on our hands and twiddling our thumbs! Useless!"

Alice beamed, "Now, let’s get to rowing! I call stroke!" before she hurriedly took the lead position.

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

Shifting, Skarsneek moved to bounce around in case Hinami was still not in her right mind.

Thankfully that was unnecessary as Hinami looked to be finally back, just extremely exhausted.

That’s when Atsuha came in, and finally helped by inscribing the proper seals. He made sure to memorize the seal words, process and burned it into his mind.

When it was done, Skarsneek finally let go of Hinami and placed her in a more comfortable position.

“Right, let’s head out then.” Skarsneek said as he opened the door for everyone to head out.

Idly, he wondered what’s going on with everyone else. This was already quite the eventful day for him and with how much things went south.

Surely, it can’t get worse?

Though the moment that crossed his mind, he slapped the back of his head.

He just made it worse, didn’t he?

With that in mind, he wondered where everyone was before meeting them all at the temple.

Skarsneek waved a hand upwards and gestured to them. “Hey, what I missed?”

---

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Gringor snorted in annoyance, looks like that too was another bust.

“Youz got any technique like that?” He asked, so far, it looks like he’ll have to copy the heavenly strike and unfortunately, he only saw the motions but not the deeper aspect.

Then again, maybe Boss Shizuka got something like that?

“Hmph, good talk.” Gringor waved his hands in thanks as he walked. “Try to do something, sitting all day not good for legs. Go see underboss Takeshi, always getting into a good scrap."

With that, he walked along and picked a direction to walk. Nowhere in particular as he just needed some time to think.

Unbeknownst to him, his wandering took him right back to the temple where everyone had gathered.

“Another scrap coming?” Gringor asked as he noticed everyone gathered around.

“Why the hell are you dressed like that? Wait, isn’t that-Did you take Kalaj armor?”

“I found it sitting with no one wanting it, so it means it’s mine.”

“That’s mine you mean! I won that fair and square-! Oh never mind, whatever, at least make sure you color it differently.” Skarsneek annoyedly rubbed the back of his head as he glared the High Orc, one that Gringor returned with a hand on hip and axe rested on against the shoulder.

Liliana

@Enkryption, @AzureKnight

”Hiiii Ian!” Liliana said, squeezing herself free of Alice’s bosomy prison, while the sword on her back glowered at Carroll for a moment before huffily turning away…strangely now sitting vertically against Liliana’s back. Like it was glued to her. ”Is that what that was? Healing? Ohhh,” Liliana said, before flittering around Shizuka. ”Phew, that’s a relief. When I left I was sure you were going to **** and **** and then **** her right on the ****.” Liliana said, each R-18 word blocked out by a flock of seagulls. Of course, what she meant to say was: “Hug and snuggle and then kiss her right in the mouth” but comedy demanded a punching bag.

And today, that was Shizuka.

Liliana didn’t know at all what had transpired for most of the events preceding, but did know that Alice was oddly chipper about being lead stroke on the boat. ”Hi-Ho, its off to Hama we go!” the chipper fairy said, before picking up Whimsy. As if sensing the little fairy intended to use it as a paddle, the sword promptly pricked her thumb with a thorn, causing the fairy to wince and just pick up an oar. ”I wasn’t gonna Whimsy! I swear!”

Eula

There was no nice way to tell the monk that he had indeed been assaulted and robbed, so…Eula would do her best to explain this while not utterly shattering his faith in other mamono. ”I’m truly sorry but…that is exactly what happened,” the automaton said, lifting her sack of coins and placing them in the monk’s hands. ”I do not know how much was taken from you, but…I want to make it right. I should have stopped those two but I hadn’t expected…them to harm anyone,” Eula seemed genuinely remorseful, looking down at her empty hands. ”I understand you may hate yokai now. But…please, believe in me. I will help you with whatever quest those two promised, without payment. I cannot sit idly by while people suffer. And…I know that prank must have been to alleviate the boy’s worries.”

Standing, the automaton would outstretch a hand to the monk, an offer to help him up in spite of all that had happened. ”Much like humans, there are both good and bad in the hearts of yokai. …Please. Let me show you what good we can do, working with humanity.”” It was a longshot. Relica and Kerry had failed to keep their tempers, and now, Eula couldn't blame the monk if he lost his. But all she could do was try. People needed help.

They…needed her. Didn’t they?

Survivor Camp

A TIME TO HEAL

~ @The Irish Tree (EUL) ~

"They even stole from me?! Why? It was but a harmless prank! Just... playing with their suspicions of me." The monk then let out a heavy sigh before taking Eula's hand to stand right up. "...I suppose it's my fault too. They were on edge and I decided to provoke them. I can only accept the consequences of my actions."

Looking at the house regretfully, the monk continued. "I guess Mika and her son also saw the incident? Gods, I shouldn't have done it..." He then looked at the money pouch Eula gave him, before handing it back to the Automaton. "Please, keep it. Let the theft be my punishment. Well, at least one of my punishments. Hopefully, the worst punishment that will come to me."

The monk then saw the closed houses and surmised the worst. "...Let us not linger here. I've worked hard convincing this village that the yokai are not to be feared. It is disheartening to watch it all erased in a single stroke."

---

Eula and the monk quietly made their way out of the remote village and back into the wilderness of Onrai. But at some point, the monk stopped taking the road and began to lead Eula up a tall, forested hill far from the dirt roads.

Getting past the dense trees, Eula soon found herself inside a sizable and populated camp. It was quite the feat for the surrounding forestry to hide this large a camp. Unfortunately, most of the people inside the camp were lying on sheets or just outright lying on the soil. There were only a scant few standing upright, helping those on the ground.

"Healer! My wife! She stopped breathing..." There was a villager man bawling as he cradled his lifeless beloved in his arms.

"...I'm sorry. I got here as fast as I could." The monk replied, but he received no response as the villager continued to weep.

Returning to Eula, the monk sighed. "If only I have gotten here sooner. I've wasted too much time frolicking about..." He pinched his temples as he continued to berate himself. "What was I thinking? I should've focused. I even gotten myself attacked by my own protectors..." Wiping his face in frustration, the monk recomposed himself. "I suppose I deserve nothing less."

"Thank you for escorting me, madam yokai, but I think this is where we'll part ways." The monk said. "Just as I am needed here, you are probably needed elsewhere. I'll stay here and... do what I can for these people."

"Healer, she is a yokai?" Another villager man asked.

"Yes. She... protected me well as she escorted me here." The monk answered. "Indeed, there are more of her kind here and they're here to help us."

The refugees here might hear a different story soon, but that was a problem for another time. The mission was complete and Eula can head back to Terauchi Temple or do something else like attempt to help the people in this camp.

Hama Island

LOST AT SEA

"A-Anyway, nevermind that now! Is there anything you can tell us about the situation on the island, anything we should know about?!"
Shizuka Kannazuki

"Oh, just some dude swinging a sword in that island. Normally, that's not a problem but right now, a scary Varjan might notice and show him what real sword-swing looks like." Ian replied, completely forgetting the indecency the taskforce members displayed near his boat.

"Bit Players should be silent and reliable."
Alice

"From the background to the foreground, without them, we would be standing around on our tippy-toes while sitting on our hands and twiddling our thumbs! Useless!"
Alice

"...You know, you guys talk weird." Ian remarked, without a hint of irony. "I commend Lord Takeshi for putting up with you."

The rainbow knight then boarded the large boat and took the oar from Liliana. "Sorry, little sprite, but you're gonna need your strength for what you'll be doing later." After the cryptic comment, Ian rowed the taskforce to Hama Island.

-

Hama Island was just a tiny and rocky rocky piece of land with a couple of thin trees rooted in the mostly sandy ground. A thin, natural fog rolled into the land as Ian led the taskforce to a campsite consisting of one tent, some supplies and a training dummy. A well-built but middle-aged man was there, practicing sword strokes on the dummy. Unfortunately, his swings and his form were less than amateur.

"You better put that thing down before you hurt yourself." Ian greeted the man.

"What the-?! Who are you? Yokai?!" The villager pointed his sword at the newcomers.

"Relax, we're not here to hurt you. Just worried that you might take on the Varjan fleet yourself."

"Nothing of the sort, but I have to do something!" The man replied. "The Varjans captured my daughter!"

"Where'd they take her?"

"Out to their ships, the ones with the lowered sails." The villager pointed to a pair of anchored Varjans ships out in the distant water. A thick fog obscured the two vessels. "I found a boat, a sword... maybe some friendly yokai can help?"

"What do you say, my friends? Up for a little prison breakout?"

Terauchi Temple

After Yurine assured Atsuha and Skarsneek that she would begin treating Hinami with the herbs, the latter joined the conversation outside.

Kerry Maros

Ayu took a look at the coin pouch Kerry tossed at her. An ominous shiver went down her spine, but she decided to trust the yokai. Surely, they knew what they were doing, right?

"Well, I know someone who's been there but he's... shady, to say the least." Ayu scratched the back of her head. "That and, his name is... well, I guess there's no dressing this up: His name is Shizuka. Not our Shizuka, of course, just same names." The head spy revealed. "Err, I guess we can find a way to handle the names later."

"Actually, that's not all. He's actually doing business with the Varjans." Ayu continued. "But that guy owes me, I'm sure he'll help us. His methods, though, can get... unorthodox so the question is, are you guys prepared for that?"

Io at Terauchi Temple

~ @Hammerman, @Rezod92, @Crowvette, @Nakushita, @Restalaan (GRI & SKA), @AzureKnight (ATS) ~

Io's arrival was fortuitous, as it seemed to be just in time for some sort of strategic planning meeting. The thought of planning instead of recklessly charging towards the nearest enemy greatly pleased her, for obvious reasons. She already began working on how she might be able to tailor a strategy towards this. She briefly frowned as she dismissed her initial thoughts - plans that would take entirely too long to employ, and/or require a prodigious amount of graverobbing. Neither would go over well. Io was still adjusting to working with humans - she hoped that the others in the task force were doing a better job of acting as good representatives to the locals.

"I believe," Io chimed in to Ayu's last statement, "That 'unorthodox' is our modus operandi." It was an equal part lament and praise, in Io's eyes. "But can we trust someone doing business with the enemy?" Io echoed the concerns that she was sure the rest of the task force felt. She held back a flurry of other potential questions she had - the fine details of geography, weather conditions, number of enemies, the type of foodstuffs they prepared, how many of the guards slept face up... The kind of information that could make or break magical strategies. Those would come later, if some kind of magical trick was needed to even the odds. Io secretly hoped there would be a need.
