Has anyone ever tried, or thought to try, starting up an old RP but with a new partner? I don't mean like using the same sort of plot/characters... but I mean having a new partner essentially read through an old RP you did and then have them attempt to take on the role of your old partner?

I have so many old RPs that ended abruptly for one reason or another, and I find myself constantly going back and rereading them and wishing desperately to continue them. But a lot of times, the person I wrote with is no longer active on this site (In some cases, it's been years)

So do you think it would be ok to have someone else read through the old RP and join if they felt they could? Or would that somehow be a sort of invasion of the other person's work? Obviously identities can be kept hidden, but I just don't know? It feels like a moral grey area...

Please don't bash or hate on me for posting this. It was just one of my many ADHD/shower thoughts of the day, and I honestly am just curious what people think.

Honestly, I love the idea of this! I've never done it, but it would be great fi jump-in.

The closest I got to doing the above proposed idea was taking a world that a friend and I built together, used our old RP as lore, and then spin a new tale with new people right over it.

I think it would be okay to do something like that, but I don't know why you would. I can understand the appeal of taking an unfinished but beloved story and breathing life into it, but isn't that unfair to your partner? I know I wouldn't want to be saddled with a bunch of expectations for how my character should behave, which is the main reason I don't play many fandom RPs. And would it be worth the effort for me to read everything about your RP just to have you flake on me when I don't meet your expectations? Even so, nobody is going to write or have the exact same ideas as your old partner. But perhaps if you understand that it's not going to be the same, it wouldn't be a horrible thing to try.

Also editing this to congratulate the OP for having a thread title that makes it seem like an RP idea that's posted in the wrong section.

@BrokenPromise I definitely agree with everything you said, which I think is why no one does it.

Your idea of using an old RP as a world builder is pretty cool!

I know it's late, but I asked people for the right to use their RP Setting before; my most successful RP ever involved a setting I borrowed from a friend (who allowed me to borrow it) that I then redid most of the lore for, then retooled from an Academy RP to a War RP (although the location used for the Academy RP version is still canon).

So if you have permission, it's fine.

I've had a similar thought but, without permission. Which is almost assuredly wrong, bizarre, borders on harassment. Anyway imagine how cool it'd be to show up in a seven year old dormant RP uninvited but very announced.

Yeah... The very idea would be annoying indeed.
